Piccadilly Radio Tuesday 2nd April 1974, North West England's first ever soundtrack was Good Vibrations perform by the Beach Boys which it brings sunshine to the region especially Manchester
Hi, My wife is Maureen O'rourke who was reception admin on that 1st day , she has photo cards of DJ's from 1974 . Anyone out there with similar interest or worked at Piccadilly 261 back in the day
Good Vibrations was the first and also the last track played on Piccadilly Radio. Also the first track played on Key 103 as they flipped over from 97fm to 103fm
The Thinner Record Spinner, Roger "Twiggy" Day. And he's still carrying on at the new Boom Radio exactly as he did 40 years ago at Birmingham's BRMB, keeping up the legacy that Brian Matthew left behind when he passed away. Mention Steve Merike and the first record that comes to mind is The Tears Of A Clown by Smokey Robinson & the Miracles.
Can not believe that an experienced DJ like Roger Day can not cue up his first record. He must have cued up hundreds of 45rpm singles but surely you would think he would make extra sure it was a good half a revolution back.
Ah, Piccadilly Radio 261 ... James Stanage, Phil Wood, Dave Ward, sophisticated entertainment with Mike Sweeney! Memories, memories, memories.
The good old days pal👍

In the West Midlands, 261 metres was the wavelength for BRMB. Mr Day was on that station too.

According to Roger, there was a fault with the turntable, which they had failed to fix.

Anyone know what the opening section of Classical Music is called?
It's by Dvorak, Slavonic Dance no 1, I think.
What is the music playing around 8:10? Is it a song or just a jingle?
Song: Doobie Brothers - Listen To The Music.
The Minuet Of The Robots by Jean-Jacques Perrey
GOOD GRIEF WELCOME TO RADIO 4
Steve Merike was another dodgy character
