Whether a movie was asked for or not doesn't determine it's quality. There are plenty of movies that are loved that no one asked for. Just because something wasn't asked for doesn't mean it shouldn't be made otherwise we would never get anything new
The reason why - Sony's agreement with Marvel included a condition requiring the studio to commence production on a dedicated Spider-Man movie within a stipulated time frame that works out to once every five years and nine months. If Sony were to miss that target, the studio could lose a major piece of its IP portfolio Technically Morbius, Madame Web and Kraven are Spider-Man Characters included with the Spiderverse. Thus by releasing these mediocre low performing movies, Sony retains rights to Spider-Man and the Spiderverse by claiming that Sony is releasing Spider-Man adjacent movies. Also the movies could include an image of Spider-Man (a flier, newspaper, poster, website) or have Uncle Ben, Aunt May, Richard and Mary Parker (Peter Parker's parents) in the movie or mentioned. Again anything Spider-Man adjacent would fulfill the agreement. Also - Sony can afford to make money losing movies like Morbius, Madame Web and Kraven since Spider-Man and Venom are billion dollar cash cows.
@georgejorden6269 So in other words it's because of skeezy corporate BS. No wonder there's a perception of modern cinema being unoriginal and soul-less. There's still a few diamonds in the rough, but I feel like we are living in the dark ages of filmmaking.
@@JonnyFlash80Yep it's about the money. Even if a movie doesn't make money, a studio can write it off on taxes. Also - The Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group's vast film library includes more than 3,500 titles, including 12 Best Picture Academy Award winners. So Sony can make a few stinkers and still be okay. In the Spiderverse, Spider-Man is billion dollar cash cow. Make a few Spider-Man adjacent movies and Sony gets to keep the Spiderverse per the agreement with Marvel. As long as the mediocre Spider-Man adjacent movies don't kill the main cash cow - Spider-Man, Sony will continue to churn of the bad cheese.
I've heard this elsewhere and I'll repeat it here. There are only two reasons to watch Madame Web, and they are the same exact reasons to watch euphoria
Im happy it bombed, definitely no one requested this film

Madame Web was such an odd choice. What is Sony thinking?
No one knows, and their track record is not that great! lol :)

This is a future masterpiece
Title is misleading, this is a Sony movie, not a marvel movie
U do realize there's a difference between marvel and MCU right? This is a marvel movie made by Sony.
