I actually like the addition of Rollo, i think it really shows just how flawed vash is. Hes so desperate to help people and make everyone happy that, as wolfwood points out, he makes promises he couldnt possibly hope to keep. I think it also adds to the fact that later on while vash is seeing wolfwood distressed because hes coming to realize hes going to have to kill livio, vash even tho hes still upset with wolfwood for Rollos death interferes. Ignoring vashs no killing rule for a second, Vash could have let wolfwood kill livio because he killed rollo but he doesnt want wolfwood to hurt that way because he sees that livio is important to him. He doesnt want wolfwood to have to put down someone who was a friend even though wolfwood took a friend away from him.
I just wanna note that the reason nai wears the weird hoodie thing is for a couple of reasons! The very appearance of it at all is to show how alien nai is, you cant even really decern what materials its made out of. It shows how while he embraces that hes a plant, vash doesnt. Vash wears stuff thats very recognizable to us, it makes him look very human. Another reason for nais hoodie thing is the hood itself being a way to show nai hiding away and trying to pretend hes not afraid and isnt hurt by whats happened to him. I think it also comforts him. He has a hood over his head during the last run as the plants are killed, we see how horrified and scared he is but when he takes if off when vash shows up he acts like he wasnt just freaking out. He almost always wears it when playing the piano which he and vash used to do together, hurting from not having his brother playing along side him anymore. And he suddenly is wearing the hood again during ep 11 when he kills rems memory, showing that killing her hurt him too. He loved rem and when she chose to save the humans over getting in the pod with them, he felt betrayed. His hood us actually really important to show how nai is hiding part of how hes truly feeling, hes trying to be tougher than he actually is.
I dig, Nai not wearing actual "Human" clothes though. It is a visual and character design storytelling of Nai really hating humans that he won't "dress like them". Since his cloak isn't really even a cloak/clothes . It is his Knives. It supports his ideology of wiping everything human to make a new world fit for plants. Like he at least don't have the hypocrisy to retain any human made stuff in the world he is gonna make. Like he would rather be butt ass naked than to wear human clothing in his new world
This is why the stampede is off. It portrays his morality as a coping mechanism rather than a world view he developed cause of rem. Yes, he tries to keep her alive through his morality. It happens in all version. But that explains his extremism, why he allows himself to get hurt or even struggle to listen to others. But that wasn't all. He believed in those morals. He firmly believed that love and peace was the way. He wants to protect others not just for rem but because he knows someone's gonna loose a family member just like he did. He wants to stop people from hurting eachother cause to him anyone who gets hurt is a lost. It's universal pain that he wants to put an end to. They just reduced his morality to a batman story of "I lost my parents." therefore I don't kill.
@hetsu5524 yeah, That's the point. Your supposed to think its nonsensical. It's his character flaw that he is pacifist to an EXTREME. He doesn't realize how biased he is since like knives he's a plant and can live. If human behaved like Vash, he would die. Vash goes through trials in 98 anime and manga to help him realize his worldview isn't always right. Though stampede kinda speed runs his character so Vash seems more stupid and helpless than he actually is.
i agree! Stampede is the first series of trigun media i consumed (now i've watched both animes and read the manga), and the first impression i got from Tristamp Vash was that it's a coping mechanism for him. I don't think it's off because Tristamp is the only series where he was involved in Knives's betrayal, and I get the feeling that he is always trying to atone for that.
Even by itself it has a pretty neat lived-in feel. You can pick out what happened just from all the smaller context clues and locations they visit. Quite haunting as well. All the present societies are essentially living on the corpses of their failed ancestors.
Turns out Roberto was in the manga, I remember, he didn't even have a name, just mentioned once as the guy that taught Meryl how to use Derringer guns, so fleshing him out more was pretty cool, and them being reporters like at the end of the manga was pretty cool ig, maybe Meryl will go back to being an insurance agent with Milly if she gets demoted like they had said in the last episode, it was cool they had mentioned the insurance company too I'm like oh my god I just can't wait for the next season. Studio Orange better animate Vash barking like a dog or else. 👹
I think the main reason why the Vash's more darker side taking front row in Stampede is mainly because of Knives being a much more active presence from the start. I think after the July incident, with Knives gone, a lot of the stuff that was introduced and teased throughout season 1 will take front and center, like Legato will become the main villain and forming the Gung ho guns to take revenge for what happened to Knives, since we've already seen Rai-Dei on a wanted poster and Midvalley was mentioned in a newspaper in the July episodes. The writers did mention that a lot of the characters feel incomplete by design for this season, so we might see the characters resemble their manga selves as the series goes on. Great video though, glad more people are open to this new interpretation of one of my favorite series of all time.
i think stampede works pretty well as supplementary material to the original manga! we got more of wolfwood’s backstory with livio (which was kinda missing in trimax) and i also feel like knives as a character was a bit more fleshed out than in either the manga or the 98 anime (just because he got more screen time, for once) honestly i’d take whatever trigun release i can get in the year of our lord 2023
16:03 they probably only got enough for 12 episodes and felt they needed to establish everything that was deemed too complicated to set up in either previous version of Trigun-mostly because introducing all of that setting helps them say different and more complex things than previous Triguns.
20:14 Now that you mention it, the Mysterio thing was probably intentional, as was making Knives’s bladed stamen look like Doc Ock. And his base power of being similar to Carnage. And also Vash’s bionic arm containing a grappling hook, which he uses to “web” swing. Nightow loves Spider-Man.
Stampede was my first foray into the trigun universe and boy did it sink its claws in me. My girlfriend saw it on hulu and suggested we give it a shot and holy shit I’m glad we did. I found it very compelling and I love Vash’s character so much already. The opening is so fuckin fire I can’t get it out of my head, the animation is beautiful. You can feel and see the inspiration drawn from other similar concepts and it’s awesome. Can’t wait to dive into the OG anime and the manga.
As someone who hasn't watched the OG anime or read the manga. I really liked the show it makes want to know more about the world and I'm going to read the manga. But I can definitely see why changes would be upsetting if you're already familiar with the story.
I definitely agree with the gripe about Livio. My biggest gripe was the fact they combined the sand steemer scenario with wolfwood protecting the orphanage. While the scenes were still good, and I did enjoy it, I definitely think it would have been better to not change it, or to have just not combined the two things, even if it was meant to demonstrate Wolfwoods motivations and character. We didn't need it yet, let people think him just an asshole for awhile and build a little slowly to it, that would have been better and closer to the original. I also understand though that they wanted to get as much information in during season 1 to hook people in and make them care and hold interest for as long as possible, as that really is the bottom line of streaming services and whether the studios get the green light on additional seasons. Unfortunately due to how people watch media nowadays it's a lot harder to have slow storylines that feel compelling at times especially if they start out as comedy. it just doesn't hook people as well it seems. which is really unfortunate cause i do miss the pacing and tone of the original series in someways, but for me at least, I can follow the plot here A LOT easier than in the previous iterations. I've read trimax and i've watched the 98 anime series, and i didn't understand the 98 anime at all and really didn't understand what they were trying to do until i read trimax a few months ago. mind you i was watching the anime in high school, so that might also have had something to do with my lack of understanding.
I agree with practically everything you say!! I personally watched Stampede first, I went in knowing nothing about Trigun except having seen Vash somewhere years ago in pictures, but that was it. And going in Knowing ANYTHING was fantastic. Yeah, there were things that weren't the best. I didn't care that much about Wolfwood, Livio or Legato when I watched it, for example. But besides that I enjoyed Stampede SO much that I went to the 98 Version and then to the Manga. And Man, the Manga is just superior in everything except action scenes (we know how chaotic af the Panels are 😂). But I actually still like Stampede more than the 98 Version. Some fans may want to kill me... But I think the 98 Version is Overrated due to Nostalgia 😅 I mean, is not bad at all, I liked it. But not even as much as Stampede or the Manga. It has its issues too 🫡 So now my Only Hope is for Stampede S2 Vash to be more like his Manga counterpart!! I rather have Manga Vash than 98 Vash 🫣 I Love him so much 😭💕✨ My only real fear is that we won't have that heartbreaking scene when Vash Remembers July... As we saw July's destruction right now in Stamped, even if they do something similar in S2, I daubt it would have the same impact... I sometimes re-read those chapters, is so heartbreaking, but so good 🥲🥲
You touched so well on both this series strengths and weaknesses, the fast pace and skipping over story beats really bothered me as well and it was slightly annoying that not many people seemed to care. I love this reboot but I wish they had stuck more closely to the manga when covering the plot.
I find stampede to be awesome but more so than anything I find it to be its own thing. it's trigun but a retelling of the it. I've read a lot of interviews on it and getting the context the characters are supposed to be immature before we get the characters we know more I think is what's great. I think we'll get more of what we love next season but I genuinely hope it's more than 12 episodes. I love how you pointed out the happy goofy to serious pipeline because that's what's really missing. I really hope Vash becomes goofy.
Nobody warned me of the Trigun rot that would take over my brain! I just watched Stampede on a whim cause I saw the Punisher and I saw Johnny Yong Bosch was the mc and he's my favorite VA, that was it! My friends were like, oh yeah it's good, watch it. Bruh. Right after Stampede, i watched 98 and I cried, then I read the manga and the manga is absolutely my favorite. Trigun absolutely took over my heart and nobody warned me! I've been obsessed since September smh
18:06 Monev was changed to set up quite a lot about Vash, Wolfwood, and Knives (and also Meryl to a lesser extent). That plotline was kept simple so the focus was them instead. Most obvious point that that episode got across to me: “Oh, Knives basically rules the world already through the power the Eye of Michael seems to have as a very centralized religious institution, doesn’t he? Vash has already lost. He just won’t admit it yet.”
I completely agree with everything you've said. With 2 exceptions. 1: if there was only 1 change I'd make, it would be to give Vash something closer to his original look. 2: most Trigun media starts AFTER July is destroyed. Maybe his happy exterior is going to come back in a BIG way because of it in future things
Never watched the original. But this is convincing me to watch Stampede. I like the animation. Fights look well choreographed and badass. And story seems interesting. Thanks man. You earned a Sub.
So far I was able to embrace all changes made so far just fine. Do I prefer what I knew from the manga? Sure, but I am also willing to trust Nightow & the crew behind Trigun Stampede to present me with a great new version of Trigun, and thus far they presented me with an anime that I enjoy just as much, and partially even more than the old one. Also regarding some nitpicks. I'd say, one can't have the cake and eat it to. First of all, season 1 just getting 12 instead of more episodes is just something we have to live with from a business & industry side of things. So regarding the complaints about XYZ not showing up yet, trying to shoehorn Midvalley and all the other Gung Ho Guns into these 12 episodes wouldn't have worked. It would've been too much, for too little time. I've noticed how people complain about the pacing, but if anything would've truly given us bad pacing, that would've been too fast, that would've been the attempt to shoehorn every single Gung Ho Gun and other villains into this series. And yes, we only got a little of Legato, Livio & Elendira, but this was done with intention. It was an introduction to them at earlier stages of their lives, with much bigger things still to come. The director already shared a sketch of a more grown version of Elendira, talking about how she will become stronger. And that was before season 2 was even announced. One can dislike what they've seen of Livio & Legato so far, but we simply weren't supposed to see more of them yet. Trigun Stampede Season 1 has basically been an elaborate prologue to a much bigger story. One may try to view this prologue as its own story, ignoring everything that is still to come, but there is really no point in doing so. Especially if people want to do so, by comparing it to the manga. Like, yes of course we've gotten so much amazing stuff with someone like Livio in Trigun Maximum, that on the grand scheme of things is better than what we saw of him in Trigun Stampede, but it makes no sense to compare his entire story, to what is his introduction in Trigun Stampede. Imagine they would've tried to shoehorn Livio's entire story into these last 6 episodes of Trigun Stampede, just for the sake of giving fans everything they knew about Livio? That would've done way more damage than good. That would've caused true problems(not just nitpicks from fans wanting that sweet fan service of Razlo swinging around 3 huge guns and turning into this super cool gunslinging cowboy) in the quality of the writing of this show. So instead, they established that he is there, that he has a connection to Wolfwood, that there is way more to him than meets the eye at first glance, and that there is still much more to come with the vision Livio had, and with what Legato said about him still being of use to them. And these same things can basically be said about a bunch of others as well.
Studio Orange said: *Oh yea baby, Eye Candy and Money shots everywhere.* 😏 Me: Motherfucker, what was your budget?! The souls of your enemies?!?! 😳 Studio Orange: *We're... not allowed to discuss that.* 😗 Me: 😐
I remember watching your first video on Trigun a while back and I had a great time watching it(your video is one of the reasons I decided to read the manga). As a Fan of 90s Trigun, Stampede is such a fun reimagining of the series that understands what makes both the 90s/Manga of Trigun so great
As someone who's only seen the 90's anime (and the movie), l was really happy to see E.G. The Mine get more screentime and present himself as a threat. I liked his role in the old anime, basically murdering the other Gung-ho Guns who failed in their mission before Rai-Dei kills him in turn just for the chance to duel Vash. But we never got to see what he was truly capable of, and Stampede gave him just enough screentime to do that. By and large, I still prefer the anime to Stampede so far, but still, it's nice to see characters who barely appeared before (or never, in Elendira and Livio's cases) get their time to shine. I've heard things about Livio and his alter-ego Razlo, so I'm really hoping Razlo makes his debut in the second half. He's always been a character I've wanted to see in anime form.
Vash did had the deep inside happines but you just can't see it i was threw out the 12 episodes that Vash was being hunted threw out this whole time but you didn't noticed it and he still doesn't want to hurt anyone or kill anyone but has to get threw this to find a way to live peacefully and wanted to show the darker moments, what the original anime didn't show
Great video, loved hearing your thoughts! I do agree that a lot of your nit-picks are likely to be covered in season 2 but I also think some of the decisions were based on the fact that there would potentially not be a season two regardless of it already being planned out since in a recent Orange panel they did say that the future of the series would depend on reception and the amount fan support and they could actually do quite a few seasons so long as the support remains strong enough to fund it ("the sky's the limit" or smth like that is what they said). I also stand by Trimax being the top piece of Trigun media so far but the fact that they're shuffling so much of the timeline and dropping hints to stuff we didn't see til the endgame of Trimax has me hyped for what they're planning in season 2. I am hoping so hard for the Vash/Wolfwood shared braincell shenanigans in the next season since these first 12 eps felt very much like a foundation so that they could really start the adventures of the Trigun crew for future seasons. I am also super stoked to see what Milly will be like (though slightly afraid admittedly); gosh Orange really did just serve us some good fukin food, man.
As a 3d animator, I can confidently say I was frothing at the mouth at that anime intro. I mean... THE SAND PHYSICS??? HELLO??? And did you SEE the high definition textures on the GUN!?!? Do you realize how many HOURS of compositing it would take me to replicate such a masterpiece!?! And I'm JUST talking about the texturing on the gun here!
You brought up a lot of points i had while watching too, especially how Vash is kinda just emo from the start, i respect the original anime a lot for doing an actual 50 50 cut between episodes of goofy vash an serious vash, felt super rewarding when shit actually got real. At first i was really bother by a lot of those changes like legato or crimson nail being super lame and just showing up for the sake of it. Initially the announcement of season2 made me think that it actually fixes every issue i had and i was super hyped but the more i think about it it's still not perfect even if season 2 delivers. I wish the show had more restrain to keep the characters those characters for later instead of showign them but not doing anything with them, sure we might see the cool stuff the eventually do but especially for new viewers they are missing the original impact. I really like crimson nail because she came in just impaling legato who was like one of the most powerful beings in the manga at that point with giant ass nails, now we saw a crying test tube kid that might maybe grew up to be cool. Also Wolfwoods arc basically being over already really makes me wonder how they want to keep up the steam when they already used all the good material. As a new iteration of the show it's still bizarre how good it worked though, usually with a reboot like this it will just straight up suck or have nothign in common with the original but while watching i actually had a lot of moment where i liked the new structure and changes. Also of course, the show looks straight up incredible, this is the best 3D TV anime has looked and everyone who's still bashing CGI out of principle should watch this
I remember people saying stuff like this show is souless Knives is hollow an they then refuse to acknowledge that he had far less reason before but they then just say I have disorders :/
It's been a long time coming, but you've finally dropped one on an anime I've watched. From tuning in time to time just to peep the quality, it was really nice to sit down for the entirety of one. As someone who struggles to vibe with much anime, I really enjoyed Stampede.
I liked vashes redesign from the get go I mean this is probably my favorite anime to date and it's amazing I love trigun and the movie was pretty good to and just can't wait for season 2
I’m happy to say I bought the manga back in the mid-2000’s after watching the anime and I still have the books today. A really enjoyed Stampede. The visuals are gorgeous, the fights are great, and I actually really like Roberto. Although I totally agree with them reducing Livio to basically a robot was a letdown.
As a trans woman, myself, I fucking DESPISE what Stampede did to Elendira the Crimson Nail. She could have been some amazing trans representation, but no, they changed her into a fucking immortal loli cis woman... That felt like a huge slap in the face to trans fans of the classic manga.
If I missed something, and she is still trans, they sure as fuck didn't make that obvious, outside of having a guy voice her in Japanese. (But that guy has actually voiced cis women in anime before, so I still don't count it)
Cis woman? Elendira isn't even human in Stampede. Who knows what they will develop into, but them being trans wasn't exactly handled tastefully in in the manga. They had no real backstory and random characters would mistake Elendira as a crossdresser or outright call her a man. That was basically it. Otherwise, Elendira was just some strong human who became loyal to Knives and developed a rivalry with Legato. They were cool, but I'm not surprised Tristamp changed them to better justify how strong they will be and how off they appear to others. Though no one would expect the little girl form.
@@Teknanam Honestly, I would have preferred they just give her a stronger backstory, and flesh her out to fix those issues rather than erasing her trans identity all together. The manga came out in the 90's, there was WAY worse contemporary trans rep out there.
@@Hey-Its-Dingo But who's to say they did erase it? It might come into play in Season 2, What with Stampede basically being a reimagined stealth prequel to what will likely be a Maximum-style beginning. Ultimately, Stampede did give backstory to Elendira when previously there was none. It might not have been the type anyone would've imagined, but it is still a backstory. I could see S2 Elendira being closer to their manga self along with more indications of them being trans. Maybe ones that aren't just "that man looks prettier than me" from Meryl. I should note though that while Trigun is a manga that begin in the 90s, Elendira herself didn't show up until the 2000s.
I had actually only started Trigun 98 a few years ago but fell in love with it. Wad very uncertain about Stampede but it came out and I waited until the full dub was out and watched it all in one go and it far surpassed my expectations. Super hype for season 2 or the movie. Whichever they end up doing
@@SlimeFancypants I’ve seen 5 episodes and it’s excellent. I’m not big on the aesthetic of Trigun because the colors seem washed out, but I’m won over.
One small detail I noticed about knives' cloak design is that it totally resembles young vash's cryochamber outfit when he first appeared, so my theory is that like playing the piano, it's another way for knives to keep his brother alongside him, seeing that he is always seen in that cloak for the hundred year separation and only takes it off when they are finally "on the same side" in ep11
I’m extremely grateful for Tristamps existence be it’s what got me to finally check out Trigun after years of vaguely knowing about it. I also had an amazing time watching it! The animation is stunning and honestly it’s worth watching just for that alone. However, the experience kind of soured after watching 98 and reading Trimax. I feel like my biggest issue with Tristamp (ESPECIALLY after reading Trimax) was that it kind of… really dropped the ball when it came to both Vash and Knives. I really dislike the way Tristamp has Knives be just naturally more alien and less human, when the most devastating part of the backstory was how human he was (for lack of a better word lmao) before everything fell apart. Same with Vash just being innately the more kind and sensitive one when Tristamp makes it clear how much of that is an active choice he makes. I’m hoping that more depth is given in season 2, but it feels a little late for that at this point. (Also the entire plot of Knives using Vash to impregnate the plants to create more independents was. Well that certainly was A Choice That Was Made.)
A year down the line, with the official announcement of trigaze coming soon, I really do think that having this done in media res feels very fitting. You raise important points about the tonal shift not being fully present in tristamp, and I fully agree with that notion. But I think because tristamp is somewhat of a prequel situation to trimax, where these characters are still trying to figure out who they are and their role (most notably with wolfwood), I think what would be really interesting is seeing vash build up even more of this falsely positive and silly facade after the event of july. Because as an audience, we are aware of the exact danger that knives presents and I'd like to think that vash will lean more heavily into the fake smiles and the silliness to get people to underestimate him. Likewise, some of the changes with the gung-ho guns, I do think that they have the potential to come in s2 because there are tonne of hints that they exist in-universe (especially in the posters and the radio broadcasts). I will say that wolfwood's background was a bit jarring to be introduced so soon HOWEVER, I feel like there was still a lot of room to explore his character and how the orphanage plays into to it. Tristamp did a good job of establishing the intrigue and I'm fully hoping that s2 will bring it all to light. And although the intrigue on the whole betrayal aspect was spoiled, in a way, it can be a good thing to create a point of attachment so soon. I wasn't an OG trigun fan or the manga reader when it came out, but I can imagine it may have been a little frustrating to be given hints to Wolfwood’s initial allegiance but not having anything confirmed until knives confirms it to legato much later down the line. In a sense, it speeds up the narrative and helps to establish Wolfwood’s point of conflict earlier. This can be argued as both a bad or a good thing, but I have hope that it will be dealt with in a way that is respectful to the original source material. One massive gripe I have, especially as I'm reading the manga is WHERE IS WOLFWOOD'S MELATONIN!?!?!?! GIVE ME MY WOLFWOOD WHO WON'T LOOK LIKE A LOAF OF BREAD THATS BEEN BAKING FOR A BIT! I WANT MY BREAD TOASTED FULLY!!!!
I loved Stampede but the manga and anime in my opinion is much better. I really want Stampede to finish because it’s great but I would love to have Trigun Maximum to get the Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood treatment.
I too feel like the 12 episodes werent enough to fully explore Vash´s personality and his relationships with other characters. Also I liked how we learned about Vashs identity slowly. I t just felt like more of a mindblown (or maybe I was just 14 who knows?). Overall Im gratefull for the new Trigun content but I hope the 2nd seacon could fix little bit its pacing
I never felt the urge for Stampede season 1 to fully tell all the character arcs and growths of all the characters in season1 when by episode 5 you can by then at least tell the season will end I like the July Incident. And a lot of things in the OG Trigun anime and Manga happens because of what went down in the July incident
@@Snzn_7 i just wish we had more time with the characters I guess. I liked that slow transition from silly to serious. In stampede it got serious pretty fast. Not saying the fast pacing is necessary bad but that was what the old Triguns charm I think. Ofc I will have to wait for 2nd season to fully judge it.
I think they someone speculated b4 that ss1 was like a prequeal and that maybe in ss2 it would folllow similarly to the og but yknow still diff but who knows
My friend dragged me to watch Trigun (the new one) because she knew I would love Vash. She was right. We now almost done with the 1998 anime and then I’ll read the manga. Love it ❤
I watched the entirety of tristamp and the '98 anime in less than a week. I LOVE Vash, and I love both anime pretty equally, though story-wise I like tristamp more just because of the way it tells the story is more modern (which, yeah, makes sense) and the way is handled Meryl's character without bouncing back and forth between badass and damsel in distress. I do really want to read the manga but I dont really know where to find it.
Btw, I’ve been watching your manga retrospectives. One recommendation I give is Dragon Quest: the adventures of dai. The anime remake just finished last year, and I thought it would be an interesting retrospective, considering it’s an older series and you don’t have to be familiar with the games to read or watch it.
Honestly i was one of the few people I knew of who went into this hopeful as I thought the 3d did decently well in the trailer especially with how crazy Vash is known to move. But I couldn't even really get past episode one, the story and characterization just did not mesh with me at all. Primarily Vash coming off as annoying not goofy and just the total changes to Meryl and the set up compared to the previous anime. The creator may approve, but it doesnt hit what I need to consider it a good Trigun anime.
19:33 Legato was set up, again to show just how much power Knives has over Nomansland. Knives has, indeed, won over the hearts and minds of enough people that it’s a problem. This makes it matter more later when Vash finally gets the small victory of winning over Wolfwood and Meryl to fighting with and for him against Knives in July. Would I have liked it better if all of this was set up across 12 episodes that were 47 minutes in length or 24 episodes that were 23.5 minutes in length? Yes! It definitely needed. Do I think Studio Orange was ever going to get more than 12 episodes of 23.5? No. The way anime gets made is not good. And we lose out for it.
I don’t mind Roberto. They should’ve still been insurance agents though. Reporters makes 0 sense. Though if this is a prequel to 1998 then maybe she’ll get into insurance at some point.
As a person who watched the anime weekly I liked it alot. Does it change a handful of things in the story sure but is it still hood or great season 1 yes I loved the world building the lore the characters The fights I couldn't nitpick one thing that I didn't like I cannot wait for s2 or just the story moving forward.
This is like the first channel to do a video on Trigun Stampede that I don't think is non chalant meaningless complaining. Iverall good reveiw you clearly know what you're doing
I heard trygun when watching somthing on youtube thumbnail poped up about vash full name, i was detarmend to find this anime and when i saw artstyle world setting and characters i fall in love with this serise,in my opinion original is batter.
Vash could have directed the beam to make it not hit Nai in the last episode, like he could have moved in a helix along the orbit than a straight line, that would save both of them and he wouldn't fall down as a meteorite like that. That is only one of many issues I have with this series. Their worldviews feel forced, the battle outcomes feel forced. Anyway Trigun/Vash is one of my favorite manga series/characters so this is still very much enjoyable. 8/10 overall, 10/10 enjoyability, same as the manga.
First analysis that shows some very good points on the good, the bad and the in-between for Trigun Stampede. I can tell you both appreciate and respect the Trigun series.
Of course you can’t beat the original ost ….the dude was was the guitarist for the FUCKING SEATBELTS !! Aka the group that made the cowboy bebop ost. Think about that…..the main composer of the trigun ost was just the guitarist for the bebop ost……that’s why the bebop ost is and will forever be the goat lol. So the trigun composer was literally a side character in the bebop ost, you can’t really say “it’s not getting topped” 😂
What i think is most important, is that it's still unmistakably Vash. He's clearly recognizable, and that's my main thing, especially since it looks like season 2 will see him transition into a design more reminiscent of his original I hope.
@@senritsujumpsuit6021 Yea, we see him a few times in the 98 series with his hair down, in a fashion very similar to stampede. All the more reason I think it works out ok. Of course they could just make it his 'super saiyan' hair, as is sorta implied in episode 12. Either way works for me. He'll probably get a new Coat and Arm too, so we'll see how those look once he gets through his Eriks phase.
I am a new fan of Trigun, but I think that one detail you missed (or just didn't bring up) was that Trigun Stampede S1 is somewhat a prequel. Episode 12 ended with Vash accidentally destroying the city of July, which, in the manga and og anime, was already destroyed. So S2 or Part 2 might be setting up to be the normal Trigun shenanigans with Vash the Stampede
Really was disappointed by this adaptation. I got use to the CG but the prequel/reimagining-ish changes I’m just not a fan of. We already had a mostly (albeit awesome) anime original in the 98 anime so why go that route a second time? I know they’re taking parts of the manga and remixing things but they should’ve just adapted maximum faithfully ala FMA brotherhood/hxh/jojo etc
So you just hate it for not just doing the same thing an just existing in the first place in case you did not know the first two seasons of Black Butler are not even remotely adapting the manga yet they popped the frick off
@@senritsujumpsuit6021 I’ve heard a lot of people didn’t like black butler due to being mostly anime original, black butler fans always said to read the manga instead and that the ovas were much more liked. Different strokes for different folks I guess. If there’s source material that hasn’t been adapted then I don’t see the point of going anime original especially for a 2nd time ina row
@@sharebear421 you sure that the word lot is accurate I only saw one video thumbnail speaking bad about season 1 and all the loud minorities trashing season 2 just miss every detail of it so Sebby can get his gay meal of Ciel
@@senritsujumpsuit6021 yes whenever I’ve talked to black butler fans they always say read the manga instead. That’s almost always the case when an anime doesn’t adapt the manga and makes anime original episodes
As long as it’s done with integrity it doesn’t matter . Fans are so fickle and they just want the same thing over and over they do t like change and often jump ship when the course goes in another direction
Trigun stampede is awful, and it's not because of the cgi or the lack of milly. The major issue with trigun stampede is the awful writing and lack of atmosphere. For starters, the atmosphere. I don't mind the cgi, although I prefer 2D. I think the cgi is amazing, but it comes with a lot of drawbacks. For starters, the Cgi looks great, but it's too clean and bright. It just all feels way too nice for the dessert and doesn't make sense with the story, especially one that is supposed to be more serious and has people barely scraping by to live. A great example of this is when the bad lads gang shows up. Not only does their animation look bad, but the color palette looks just doesn't match. I also feel that the show loses that Western feel the OG show and comic had, and while I actually think vash doesn't look bad, he clearly doesn't match his surroundings. The art isn't the biggest problem though, I can overlook all these things but what I couldn't stand for at all was the writing. They pretty much completely removed the comedy which woulf be fine I geuss if they were trying to go a more serious route as it seems but it's weird because they still through a little bit of random humor in that doesn't end up being funny just breaks your illusion of the story like the badlands gang members getting the pictures which wasn't really even funny and defeats the purpose of the show being serious. That being said, it's not like the OG wasn't serious when it needed to be infact it made more sense for vash to be providing the comedy relief. It both added to his charm, his weird way of non-violently disarming people and the way he tried to hide his past skeleton in his closet with comedy. The show also often feels way too fast to the point you never get to breathe, while the OG show had some filler I wasn't a huge fan of it also had a lot of Thought-provoking scenes and a great overarching tone of mystery. One of my favorite scenes of all of them is in the episode lost july when the girl who tried to kill him along with the whole town recognized he was also the one who had found and comforted her after the explosion. The now show really just doesn't have a lot of intrigue, a lot of the stuff just feels very recycled from other things, especially have the classic story with the brainwashed close friend from my past and I have to remind him of my humanity. The betrayal from the kid I saw a mile away and was pretty cliche, too, or the part where wolfwood shoots the kid trigun is trying to save for literally no other reason than plot. He spends the whole time almost getting killed and doesn't shoot back only to kill him after saying this is insufferable Because he didn't want to follow vashes ideals all of the sudden when he was out of danger and vash seemed to finally get through to the monster. In the show this part makes complete sense because the guy he shoots one of the gung-ho guns Had his revolver pointed at the girls and didn't want them to be killed he's already let vash be in plenty of dangerous situations, why is this diffrent. This simply just does not make sense for his character, especially after he already let it go that far, and vash was able to deesculate the situation and only waits till after he got done shooting a mini gun at him and calmed down. Speaking of wolfwood, my last point of contention, the characters. I can say without a doubt that the character writing is the worst part of the show. No one is interesting or mysterious at all, and everyone is lobotomized and lacking any kind of character. For starters, just in the first episode, Vash is already seen to be completely insufferable and lacking all the charm and wit he had in the anime. He no longer is a confident marksman who seems to hide his past with some weird sense of humor, no. He is now a bumbling idiot who doesn't even have carry bullets who start crying and having a breakdown because he wasn't prepared. This is something the show would have usually made a comedic affair, but his crying like an idiot neither pulls off being serious or funny. Also, while I don't mind him dropping the womanizing and weird, they also completely forgot to give him any kind of character flaw what so ever other than breaking out into random fits. The other characters don't fare much better with wolfwood being the worst. Meryl has lost alot of her attitude which I thought could be a bit much in the OG but they also removed all of her personality. She is basically a revolving doormat for the other characters, Knives went from interesting, imposing monster to edgy teenage boy. Roberto, I don't mind but is pretty basic and inoffensive he adds nothing other than saying newbie 30 times and making me want to break something. I think worst of the the Charcters though is wolfwood. He epitomizes one note Character. They took an amazing and interesting character and boiled him down to just angst and Neuroticism. Worst of all, he literally can not stop quiping every five seconds like he has the worlds largest chip on his shoulder like some hot topic wannabe. Not to mention a complete hypocrite for killing rollo yet wanting to try and save his friend. This show doesn't deserve to be among the like of the OG Trigun period.
“Fascist pacifism”…..I don’t think you know what fascism is……..that term makes basically no sense. Also wasn’t her name “Rem” not “Rim”??? Either way they need to bring her song back for season two. That song is beautiful in the 98 show.
Btw they can even give him his coat design from older anime (original manga) back. Would be so cool. I really liked this series better, despite being a big fan of original.

Im not gonna say it’s better than the original one but trigun remake is still good and I would recommend it to new comers to the franchise
😭👍
I dig, Nai not wearing actual "Human" clothes though. It is a visual and character design storytelling of Nai really hating humans that he won't "dress like them".
Since his cloak isn't really even a cloak/clothes . It is his Knives.
It supports his ideology of wiping everything human to make a new world fit for plants.
Like he at least don't have the hypocrisy to retain any human made stuff in the world he is gonna make. Like he would rather be butt ass naked than to wear human clothing in his new world
Stampede was a neat vibe, like the world/setting refused to play along with Vash's coping mechanism persona compared to other Trigun media.
@@landmindssoul4636 his worldview is dogshit tho, it kills him. As knives said, after a century that's the best you could come up with?
Great video though, glad more people are open to this new interpretation of one of my favorite series of all time.
i think stampede works pretty well as supplementary material to the original manga!
we got more of wolfwood’s backstory with livio (which was kinda missing in trimax) and i also feel like knives as a character was a bit more fleshed out than in either the manga or the 98 anime (just because he got more screen time, for once)
honestly i’d take whatever trigun release i can get in the year of our lord 2023
Wolfwood's design "making even the straightest of dudes immediately brick up" at 8:03 had me cackling
Can’t wait to dive into the OG anime and the manga.
actual criticism that isnt just based on bias
W vid dropping a sub
I've read trimax and i've watched the 98 anime series, and i didn't understand the 98 anime at all and really didn't understand what they were trying to do until i read trimax a few months ago. mind you i was watching the anime in high school, so that might also have had something to do with my lack of understanding.
honestly hope season 2 is 26 episodes. Livio and his alter ego is something i wanna see and how they carry Wolfwood legacy.
But I think the 98 Version is Overrated due to Nostalgia 😅
I mean, is not bad at all, I liked it. But not even as much as Stampede or the Manga. It has its issues too 🫡
So now my Only Hope is for Stampede S2 Vash to be more like his Manga counterpart!! I rather have Manga Vash than 98 Vash 🫣
I Love him so much 😭💕✨
My only real fear is that we won't have that heartbreaking scene when Vash Remembers July...

Im manifesting for season 2 🙏
He needs the more goofy.
That F#$% boy combover line got me 😂😂😂
So far I was able to embrace all changes made so far just fine.
THANK YOU 1000% AGREE
If I had to give Stamped a rating I'd also give it about a 9/10. Awesome in both dubs and fun for someone who didn't know much about the original.
Studio Orange said: *Oh yea baby, Eye Candy and Money shots everywhere.* 😏

Studio Orange: *We're... not allowed to discuss that.* 😗

i came to this channel from that Trigun vid and i guess i’m staying. good shit my man
I remember watching your first video on Trigun a while back and I had a great time watching it(your video is one of the reasons I decided to read the manga). As a Fan of 90s Trigun, Stampede is such a fun reimagining of the series that understands what makes both the 90s/Manga of Trigun so great
I don’t think the studio had a choice on 12 episode constraints.
He's always been a character I've wanted to see in anime form.
was hoping you'd make a video on this anime, thanks to you I got into Trigun. Great stuff dude
Love to hear that!!
And I'm JUST talking about the texturing on the gun here!
been waiting for you to talk about this
Lets gooooo
thank you big slime! another great video
thank YOU!
Also of course, the show looks straight up incredible, this is the best 3D TV anime has looked and everyone who's still bashing CGI out of principle should watch this
7:11 i just noticed the AC soundtrack, this channel just keeps getting better
The amount of subscribers is criminal c'mon UA-cam
I remember people saying stuff like this show is souless Knives is hollow an they then refuse to acknowledge that he had far less reason before but they then just say I have disorders :/
You took the words right out right out of my mouth! Great video ❤❤❤
It's been a long time coming, but you've finally dropped one on an anime I've watched. From tuning in time to time just to peep the quality, it was really nice to sit down for the entirety of one. As someone who struggles to vibe with much anime, I really enjoyed Stampede.
Ayeeee glad I finally got you somehow lmao 🫡
The medium of 3D deserves respect in the west
the expressions Meryl gets throughout would not exist the same way without it
I liked vashes redesign from the get go I mean this is probably my favorite anime to date and it's amazing I love trigun and the movie was pretty good to and just can't wait for season 2
Let's go perfect timing was just thinking to finish the new tri gun. Love the vids can't wait to see what's in the works ✌️
I've never really had any interest in Trigun but you've convinced me to give it a shot.
I hope you get a bullseye with that shot
I really enjoy your content. I’ve been trying to watch more anime, but there’s been so much come out this spring season
Think I’m currently watching 6 seasonal shows and it feels like I’m drowning in anime lol, thank you!!!
@@Hey-Its-Dingo
But who's to say they did erase it? It might come into play in Season 2, What with Stampede basically being a reimagined stealth prequel to what will likely be a Maximum-style beginning. Ultimately, Stampede did give backstory to Elendira when previously there was none. It might not have been the type anyone would've imagined, but it is still a backstory. I could see S2 Elendira being closer to their manga self along with more indications of them being trans. Maybe ones that aren't just "that man looks prettier than me" from Meryl.
I should note though that while Trigun is a manga that begin in the 90s, Elendira herself didn't show up until the 2000s.
@@Teknanam I hope so. What we have suggests that they did erase it, but I will hope for the best when Season 2 comes out.
I had actually only started Trigun 98 a few years ago but fell in love with it. Wad very uncertain about Stampede but it came out and I waited until the full dub was out and watched it all in one go and it far surpassed my expectations. Super hype for season 2 or the movie. Whichever they end up doing
I literal just started the original Trigun yesterday.
Yoooo enjoy!! One of the best series to ever exist
I’ve been waiting to see your thoughts on Stampede. I thought Stampede was pretty good.
Ayeee same!
Stampede's Animation Studio is giving 3D CGI Animation a Good name.
Ayy been bingeing your videos was hoping you talked about stampede
Love to hear it 🫡
I loved Stampede but the manga and anime in my opinion is much better.
When season 2 of Stampede happens I think I might end up liking it more than the original, and I love the original so much.
I do really want to read the manga but I dont really know where to find it.
wood worse part of this design is his trousers don't know why the want him to show his ankle ( ankle & angel ?)
Another great video! Side note really wish we got that trigun video game😭
BIG SAME it just completely vanished too 😭
19:33 Legato was set up, again to show just how much power Knives has over Nomansland.
You should do a video on the souleater manga and how it ties in into fireforce
I’ve always loved trigun
One of my biggest gripes is that I can’t really imagine a stampede Livio vs elendira fight sadly (one of the best trimax fights if not the best imo)
My only big issue with the show was Vash's design and the design of his gun. I miss how sleek the gun looked like wtf
8/10 overall, 10/10 enjoyability, same as the manga.
a lot of your points can be addressed by saying its a prequel. Sort of
Trigun Stargaze!!!
First analysis that shows some very good points on the good, the bad and the in-between for Trigun Stampede. I can tell you both appreciate and respect the Trigun series.
I’m not mad at the cgi because imagine animating knives blades
Of course you can’t beat the original ost ….the dude was was the guitarist for the FUCKING SEATBELTS !! Aka the group that made the cowboy bebop ost. Think about that…..the main composer of the trigun ost was just the guitarist for the bebop ost……that’s why the bebop ost is and will forever be the goat lol. So the trigun composer was literally a side character in the bebop ost, you can’t really say “it’s not getting topped” 😂
Dare I say a cg remake that actually looks good 😂😂 I’ve had such a bad taste in my mouth excluding stampede
The new Vash design initially was something I hated but now I just look at it as it’s own thing and I don’t think it’s too bad
the hate is dumb really all those people calling him TikTok Gay boy made me wanna shot their legs
What i think is most important, is that it's still unmistakably Vash.
He's clearly recognizable, and that's my main thing, especially since it looks like season 2 will see him transition into a design more reminiscent of his original I hope.
@@KoKoraaaaaaaa1995 in the old show it was shown that the hair he starts with in Stampede is his natural hair he just has unending hair gel
@@KoKoraaaaaaaa1995 I approve of his hair sparking up when he has his serious mood swings
still miss Millie
knives
I miss Milly.
So you just hate it for not just doing the same thing an just existing in the first place
in case you did not know the first two seasons of Black Butler are not even remotely adapting the manga yet they popped the frick off
@@senritsujumpsuit6021 I’ve heard a lot of people didn’t like black butler due to being mostly anime original, black butler fans always said to read the manga instead and that the ovas were much more liked.
@@sharebear421 by this logic then everyone should hate the old FMA
and most anime in general because why animate a book
As long as it’s done with integrity it doesn’t matter . Fans are so fickle and they just want the same thing over and over they do t like change and often jump ship when the course goes in another direction
All i watched was stampede and all your faults didnt click with me
Trigun stampede is awful, and it's not because of the cgi or the lack of milly.
He spends the whole time almost getting killed and doesn't shoot back only to kill him after saying this is insufferable
Because he didn't want to follow vashes ideals all of the sudden when he was out of danger and vash seemed to finally get through to the monster.

The word fascist is literally not in this video lmao
