@@LordThreeCGI?💀, buddy it was animated lmao. And no it wasn’t “too hard”. The 90’s anime was catching up to the manga too fast, so the author gave them an alternate route to animate. Hence why the last like 12 episodes r considered “filler”. When in reality the author basically just wrote 2 different versions. One for his manga and one for the anime.
Seeing people debate over which anime was closer to the manga all over made me really curious to see the differences between them all, so thanks for making the exact video I was hoping to see when I went searching - very thorough and well done!
honestly i dont think either of the adaptions are original to the manga at all. perhaps season 2 of stampede might stick to being more original since season 1 was more of a prequel.
I could talk for HOURS about how much more impactful the manga's fifth moon incident is compared to both the anime versions im so glad you pointed it out! Literally gave me shivers when i read it omg.
I actually prefer Anime Wolfwood's death because he doesn't get a heroic sacrifice. He just, dies. He died doing the right thing, absolutely. But it hits so much harder cause it leaves both the audience and Wolfwood feeling like he had more left to achieve within the story
The premature death feeling made it hit so damn deep! Very relatable, as this is such a strong reminder of mortality. Our own, and those we've loved that were ripped away from us all too early through violent means. Folks that had so much light that they were about to change the world one piece at a time. [EDIT] folks like Wolfwood, folks not dissimilar to Vash...
Wouldn’t say Knives repressed the memory of what happened. Quite the opposite he sat with it all by himself and decided he couldn’t trust Rem or any human. He completely closed himself off. Which is then in stampede what his cloak represents. It’s completely made of his own knives and covers him completely. It’s a physical and metaphorical shield
He did initially repress the memories because Rem had to tell him twice what happened. After the second time, he did just hold it in and decide to betray all the humans.
@@KBWanimeguess I read it more as he was pretending so not to worry Vash and Rem at first. Since that whole bit is from Vash’s POV. Where he thinks it’d be better if Knives repressed the memory. It was kind of an unreliable narrator moment
That could be the case. It just seems that him pretending not to remember would be pointless to show because they immediately tell him again. With his expression and how he listened to the story again wide-eyed makes me think he did initially suppress the memories. It'd be kind of weird to me if he faked all that for no reason. After that, obviously, he pretended to be fine when he was planning to betray them.
Nice video, absolutely loved when Vash gets his trademark spiked hair in Trigun Stampede. The fact that its a prequel and solidified that fact, made it worth it to me.
9:25 Point of order. In the original Anime, Knives' hate didn't come from seeing Steve be a jerk. It is heavily implied Steve beat Knives on occasion as well.
Such an EXCELLENT and thorough commentary. I absolutely enjoyed it and find it a shame that there's not much, much more engagement as of the time of this writing. I finished Stampede after only vaguely remembering the 90s show and being wholly unfamiliar with the manga. Now, I have a much more comprehensive appreciation for what I experienced and a greater interest in the source material. In short, THANK YOU for making this. I truly enjoyed it and sincerely appreciate your artistry.
I really appreciate hearing that. Thanks so much :) It's definitely not my best performing video, but it still might catch on in the algorithm eventually. XD
I think the 1998 anime did well with what little source material it had to work with. I get the feeling that the writers were given a summary of where Nightow wanted the story to go, but considering it wasn't until nearly a decade later that the manga was finished, the exact details weren't ironed out. Also, the anime had a limited number of episodes to work with so it's why so much had to be condensed down. So I think it's very understandable that Trigun 98 only adapted the first two volumes of the manga and did a speed run through the rest, and you can't really criticise it for doing that, or for having a more light-hearted tone, considering the source material it was working from. I do agree though that the fight between him and Knives was very rushed at the end. Honestly it would have been better too if the number of gung ho guns was cut down (especially the non-humanoid ones) because they were taken down so quickly they hardly felt like much of a challenge. Focusing more on their fights or spending more time with Knives would have perhaps been a better use of time. I'm glad you mentioned Vash and Knives' reaction to Tessla because that was possibly my favourite moment in the manga. It explains so much of the differences between the twins and really helps you understand why Vash was able to make peace with humanity's evils and Knives wasn't. I know this has been said many times before, but I do wish the tristamp designs matched the gritter feel of the show. Even something as simple as Wolfwood's shirt being grey not white really bugs me because it was such an iconic part of trimax and made Wolfwood super distinctive even when only drawn in two colours and a blocky style. There's nothing inherently wrong with the tristamp designs, but they feel a bit too childish and cartoon-y for the harsh and violent story it wants to tell. Glad Milly will be making a return in tristamp. The relationships between Vash, Wolfwood, Meryl and Milly were definitely the best part of the 98 anime and I was very surprised to see how infrequently the girls appeared in the manga. They were telling very different stories, but I could have read entire volumes of those four mucking around and I'm sad the girls were relegated to the sidelines in the manga. Hopefully we see more of that dynamic in tristamp S2!
Trigun is such a unique story in all its iterations, it's awe-inspiring to me as a writer. The style, the themes, the characters, the world, I can't get over it ;-;
Yeah, the Trigun Manga wins by a lot. Both anime adaptations are pretty much on the same level, but the OG is better as of now. We'll have to wait for the rest of Stampede to decide if it's better than the original one.
I like Trigun Stampedes Vash as a more naive and sad version if they show us a contrast with the Vash after the July incident where he still has the same values but taking a more active role and you can tell he is just tired of lossing folks
I've been on a real Trigun kick lately, having watched Stampede, read the manga, and rewatched the '98 anime (I had already watched it nearly 5 years ago), so I've been dying to see a comparison like this. A lot of the thoughts in this video have also been ping-ponging around my own brain this past month. How everything compares, how it's different, what version does what aspect better, what in the fresh hell Stampede season 2 is going to do, etc. To answer your question at the end, I'd say the Trigun manga is my overall favourite. While I prefer a lot of the character set-up and comedy of '98, when it got down to the nitty-gritty of the plot, Trimax took the fucking cake. It was especially interesting to watch AFTER reading the manga, as this was my first time actually getting to watch a piece of media as an adaptation rather than on its own. Like, I could feel the difference between the two especially around the fifth moon incident, which was pretty cool in the anime, but made me positively FERAL in the manga. Oddly enough, '98 made me appreciate Trimax MORE. That's not to rag on '98, though. As I said, I really do appreciate what the anime did for the characters and the world over all, giving you a bit more time to bask in the general ~vibes~ of this world, and letting you get comfortable before beating your heart with a baseball bat. It also did a lot for Meryl and Milly which I quite liked, and even, to an extent, prefer over the manga. I feel like their characters are given a lot more time to shine, at least compared to the earlier parts of the story in the manga (I do agree they get kinda sidelined in the latter half of the anime, though, as much as I love episode 25). That being said, the manga just has so much MORE going on, and moments like Milly coming with Vash and Wolfwood to save Meryl, and the Vash and Meryl kiss-fist bump will live in my brain forever. I could go on about things I loved in the anime vs. things I loved in the manga. I honestly need to stop myself, otherwise I'll never finish writing this comment, haha! Also, with regards to Stampede, I'm reserving all overall thoughts on it until it's finished, as that seems only fair. That being said, it does have some of my favourite visuals, Knives' theme is GORGEOUS, and there is a certain satisfaction in seeing elements from the manga finally get animated that '98 never got to (e.g. Wolfwood's full backstory, Livio, Elendira, Tesla). I'm mainly just excited to see what it'll do in season 2. I desperatly want to see Milly finally appear, Stampede's take on the Eriks arc, and just... everything to do with the Earth fleet. If they adapt the end of the manga and the Ark, I will go apeshit. I will say, the only thing I disagree with in this video is Wolfwood's death in the anime being better than the manga. Granted, I think that may be up to personal taste on our parts. I prefer the manga because I felt it wrapped everything up about Wolfwood is a tragically bittersweet bow, while you mentioned that you prefered how unfairly tragic and regret-filled his death in the anime was. You also mentioned how his anime death covered the question of realism vs. idealism more prominantly, which, yeah, I kinda prefer too (Although, the manga does have that excellent scene after Rei-Dei's death, but that's not a conclusion to Wolfwood as a character, so I digress). While I prefer the manga version, I actually respect your opinion on that. That being said, his death in the manga made me WEEP and I will never be able to see two shot glasses or a white couch the same again. Thanks for the emotional damaged, Nightow! In conclusion, fantastic video. Trigun is such a wonderful series with so much going on, and if you have even more thoughts on it, I'd love to hear them!
I'm glad you enjoyed this video! I agree with everything you said. Even though I did like Wolfwood's death better in the anime, the manga just had so much more going on and it was still extremely well done with amazing visuals. That panel with the couch is burned into my mind. There's something really charming about the simplicity of the 90s anime that I really appreciate. It feels more grounded than the rest and that vibe is my favorite of the three, even if the storytelling is much much much better in the manga. Good thoughts. I am also curious about how Stampede will continue the story, even if it hasn't been my favorite so far.
I love the original anime because rather than focus on lore or plot details such things it pretty much spent most of its time on building and selling character relationships and the thematic values it tries to portray in its narrative. Like knives doesn't turn evil just because he is evil but because of the wider idea of nature vs nurture and a being that does not fundamentally understand humanity and can be shaped by the experiences it gains from others which also fits into the moral quandary of humanity and the justification of its role in the universe.
That's a good point. It is a very philosophical show. Wolfwood's death is also very thematic whereas the manga is more about the progression of plot and character arcs.
@@KBWanime the 5 early episodes you mentioned were also remixed smartly in a way that slowly build up the thematic thrust of the show, vashs belief in morality and the humanity of various people he meets. the idea of the greater good while hinting at the darker direction the show would take. It's not just telling a story but unlayering an onion and the more you watch as pieces of vashs facade come undone to the characters around him and the viewer. Its probably a very silly idea but I generally take to character driven content..that's why unlike many I preferred things like Hellsing 2001(which primarily focused on seras and coming to grips with her in)humanity, or fma 03(the greater focus on ed trying to find his own ideals in a complex world) or trigun 98 as described. I feel like shows like that are not really all too common in modern anime and manga landscape. So while a direct anime adaption of the manga does sound nice, if it meant the original anime would simply be forgotten by newer generations as an unfaithful old adaption and not for what it brought to the world of trigun on its own, I'm more glad there are 3 totally different stories that can be a complement to one another rather than a total substitute.
That is a good point. The storytelling was focused more on the characters and themes and less on pacing or plot progression which I think can be said about a lot of older TV. Ideally all of these aspects are well done, but the thought process of what to focus on is really interesting.
@@MrInuhanyou123 this (and the art sytle) is probably why I just can't get behind Tristamp. When definitely legally watching these shows online back in the day, I was exposed to and ended up enjoying this type of show. A personal favorite of mine is Zipang, a show that on its face sounds like an action series but is actually a drama about dedication to your homeland, dedication to your morals and how those two intersect when a modern day Japanese battle cruiser is sent back to just after the battle of Midway. It's something I've always appreciated and thought anime just does best and to not see that as much in new shows makes me kinda sad.
I love the og series but the comic is just a masterpiece. I think Stampede has a lot of potential but it’s kind of baffling that they went with something different when the source material is that good.
@@KBWanime i know this is very late but studio orange was told to not do a one to one adaptation. the creator of trigun wanted them to add their things to it. this is discussed better in a trash taste episode that has i think the director of the show on it. i suggest watching it
I do love the fact that the Insurance Agency is basically trying to push Vash as an "act of god" style natural disaster, likely to get out of costly insurance payouts.
Nice video! I loved it ^^ Btw since you mentioned the whole “knives and vash get black hair when they use their power too much” -thing, I think they could be hinting at doing that in Stampede too? If you pay some attention to the small details you can notice that (yeah vashs hair is always a darker tone of blonde compared to Nai’s BUT) during his childhood after Luida and Brad took him under and he and Brad travel so Vash can fix up all the plants, while at the beginning of the sequence he still has completely blonde hair, at the end of it and during his reunion with knives he suddenly has dark brown eyebrows and a messy brown undercut. I actually saw some other people having the same theory, even though I don’t think anyone made a video about it yet. Still, I do hope they are planning to do this since I honestly think it could cause some kind of nice/cute group bonding moments if the others start to question why exactly that happens to him. And ofc bc he looks cool with it xD hope you get my point
Thanks so much! I'm really glad you enjoyed it :) I didn't notice that detail. That's pretty cool. I'm guessing they will go more into those things in season 2. Even if they aren't adapting the manga, they still take a lot of aspects from it.
First, I loved the loop of Tombi behind the video. Great choice. I was a fan of the 90's Trigun, and have been enjoying the different take Stampede has. The visuals are absolutely gorgeous in Stampede. I have been thinking about getting the manga. This sealed it. I have to read the source material.
That was thanks to @MrDarkLofi His music is great, and he was nice enough to let me use his song. The link to his channel and the song is in the description. I recommend checking him out!
great analysis of all the variations! i have to say i am so excited to see where stampede goes from here, especially with Knives and Legato, I think Legato is such an interesting character in Maximum and shows a side of Knives that no other version has shown so far (him not killing him even though he's human and taking him under his wing). I'm hoping they give knives the rebirth arc, making him more pissed than ever at humanity.
Thank you! They can definitely turn this to do a lot that the manga did and that would be awesome! Although Stampede wasn't my favorite, I am very curious about what they will do with the next part!
Even though I don't love the new series, it is great to see Trigun getting more recognition! I really wanted to bring more attention to the manga because it's really underrated. A lot of people don't even know it exists!
yeah regardless of how stampede handled things, i am forever grateful that it breathed new life into the trigun fandom. now i get to see so much beautiful trigun fanart.
OG anime will always be the best for me, as the changes just make much more sense in my opinion. Wolfwood's death is genius, and the change on his backstory (meaning he isn't a teenager supersoldier) does a lot more service to his character.
Overall the manga is a more complete story and does a lot better than it's adaptations, but I can't say I enjoyed it more than the 90s anime. It just captured certain aspects of it so well and created something special.
Great comparison video! I read the manga for the first time a couple of years ago and just recently finished Stampede. All three versions were amazing. I just checked out of curiosity, it looks like Dark Horse is reissuing the complete manga in HC format in 2024!!!! So stoked to revisit those panels in the larger editions.
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it! That's really sweet! I hope it brings more attention to the manga. It's crazy how many people don't even know there is one!
Love the comparisons, probably one of the only few to actually compare the iterations, which most video talking about the Trigun iterations mostly speaks how they loke the OG, and just dismiss whatever stampede and even the manga did different. I get the Hoodie cloak thing, but even with the Manga and og anime I get the giddy first reaction with their Shoulder pads in the same way I do for the cloak thing. But I also just take it as Knives not going with how "humans normally dress". Which is why when he is without the cloak, Knives is completely naked. My rationalization to it is knives not comforming to himan dress etiquette
I’ve been a huge Trigun fan since high school back in the early 2000s. The anime was my first introduction, and I absolutely loved it (the LatAm dub is amazing too). Later, in college, I read the manga and found myself loving it even more. Honestly, I wish I could combine elements from both versions to make the ultimate Trigun experience. Take Vash and Meryl’s relationship, for example. While the anime clearly hints at romance, the deeper emotional scenes between them in the manga just hit harder for me. In my opinion, they feel more meaningful there and even more romantic if that makes sense. The same goes for Wolfwood. I prefer his anime backstory, but the way he meets his end in the manga is unforgettable-especially with that iconic scene in the couch. It sticks with you. That’s probably why I’m not a fan of the Stampede anime. I was hoping it would finally blend the best aspects of both the anime and manga, but instead, we ended up with…something else.
Love this whole video! You're really good! Although personally I personally think there's some romance in stampede. It's very subtle which is odd cuz we're slapped in the face with exposition lol. The main story doesn't begin until Vash and Meryl meet, her eyes dilate when she looks at him, Meryl's reaction is what's focused on when its revealed he's a plant, she's the only one to believe in him in the end, he gets that determined look on his face when he hears her voice in void and my personal favorite is she lassos him in the first episode and he lassos her in the last! I think there's others but thats what i noticed
I've been on this platform for a quite some time and every time I see once again an exceptional creator it's nice to sub along the journey. Keep going we know you are going places
Thanks for this breakdown… I was having a hard time getting through the new anime but wanted a comparison just like this one to see if I was gonna stick through it haha.
i became a trigun fan fairly recently and read the manga before watching stampede or the 90s anime, theres just something about trimax that really cannot be topped by the animated adaptions. Theres so much more depth to the characters, their relationships to each other and the world they are forced to navigate through. After being majorly disappointed by how the 90s anime characterizes vash i couldn't really get through it, it felt like a slog compared to the manga. tristamp was better and i enjoyed the almost reincarnation of the characters and their stories but it really just left me wanting for a full fledged accurate trimax adaption. The best thing Trigun Stampede has done is get more people to read Trigun Maximum !
Absolutely! I think the best way to experience Trigun is to watch the 90s anime first. Without any expectations, it's really good and has surprising depth. But it only shows a tiny part of what the manga is so they're hard to compare.
@@KBWanime i really think i just came at it in the wrong order, if i had watched the 90s anime first i probably wouldn't dislike it as much. I love the characters though so i'll watch it and badlands rumble from time to time just to see them move around and be goofy :]
fantastic video!! Im very glad that this video is respectful of stampede since usually videos discussing it are only negative about the changes that were made. we have tons of theories about where they plan to take stampede when it comes back based on implications and symbolisms that we either noticed ourselves or Studio Orange have directly told us in convention panels and interviews which if anyone here havnt looked into I highly suggest reading them because all of it is so interesting. I do want to note that the reason for knives hoodie looking so odd is on purpose as its symbolism for his rejection of humanity and embrace for his alien origins.
as a person who read the manga before watching both anime’s I was very disappointed to know they changed vash and knives backstory so much the manga will always be so much more impactful for me never cried so much reading a manga haha! I love all versions of Trigun tho but manga will always be top tier
Thanks for this! I started watching the '98 anime around the time it came out and it alone had me loving Trigun up through this day, so I'm glad you point out how strong it was even given working with limited story details, etc. Speaking of the manga, while true that there are no overt romantic themes I'm noticing there are a lot of moments that infer a romantic bend to how some characters relate, especially Vash and Meryl. I was honestly (pleasantly) surprised! Easy to overlook if one likes, but also very THERE. As I take in all 3 versions I'm trying to enjoy each on their own merits and as just a different angle of the same story and characters I love - which is helping a lot - and videos like yours have been a fun way to indulge and gain some interesting perspectives I either hadn't considered or that I'm glad to have someone else point out. Thanks again! (PS - I too was a little distracted by "simyular/ simyularly", but found your explanation and chill about it a little charming, ha!)
Thanks XD Glad you enjoyed the video! There are some small hints about Meryl and Vash but not like the anime and it definitely couldn't be called a romance. It's much too focused on Knives for that. Each adaptation does have its strengths. There are things in the 90s anime that the manga never touches so I appreciate them each differently, even if the manga is probably the best of them.
@@KBWanime Yeah, as I read more I SO get why people have been pushing fans to read the manga. So good!! And glad you're enjoying aspects of each thing, though I'll have to check out your Stampede video next to see! Oh, it for sure ain't no romance, but it's nice to have enough hints that - once the heat on him dies down again - you feel like Vash might actually get a chance at love AND peace himself! 😄 Damn, poor guy deserves it...
I feel that it would have been worth it to mention that during the 90's anime production time Maximum was still yet to be published due to publication complications. They probably were hoping/expecting a season 2 and their "ending" would've been better compared with the earlier fight with Knives instead of the final fight.
So pretty much it's three different kids playing in the same playground and they're all telling a different story about what happened on the playground.
great video!! very thorough and objective! and honestly, i'm probably biased, but i think a lot of the weaknesses in the '98 anime are exposed with how they handled wolfwood's character. they didn't really get into his backstory or what makes him so compelling at all, and they added a random romance plot that just wasn't there originally. and i get what you mean about how tragic and tender wolfwood's death in the '98 anime was, but the lead up and consequences for it in the manga were just. SO good. and they were barely present in '98. i could go on and on about it, wolfwood is just particularly meaningful to me lol. the fact that they've introduced livio at all in stampede has me VERY excited. i'd be looking forward to a comparison of the manga's ending to stampede's when it comes out if you decide to do that!!
I might. That would be a much easier video to make XD I'm really glad you enjoyed it! I agree. Although I liked a lot of what the 90s anime did with Wolfwood, it is an incomplete story. The manga is a more thought out story compared to the thrown together 90s anime.
Yeah. It's weird. It's set up as a prequel but also doesn't connect to either of the existing Triguns. We'll see what part 2 is like whenever it comes out.
Really, really fascinating analysis. I love the 90’s anime and got into it three years ago and it became one of my favourite animes ever. I was pretty surprised when I found out just how different it was from the manga. I immediately became interested in checking the manga out, but I didn’t for a while, but, a while back, they announced the new Deluxe Editions for the manga so I’m definitely gonna get them when they come out. I was also surprised to find that the 90’s anime was Johnny Yong Bosch’s first dubbing job for an anime and it was cool that he returned for Stampede. I haven’t seen that yet either, but I hope to really soon. I’m just really excited to get the Deluxe Editions and check out the original story, especially since Yasuhiro Nightow has a really interesting style and so it’ll be incredible to check out the original source material in Deluxe Edition form.
Glad you enjoyed the video! I'm so glad the manga is being reprinted. It's such a wild crazy story that not enough people talk about. I'm jealous you get to read it on paper for the first time. XD It's such a better experience.
Something you haven't noticed or just haven't mentioned I want to add something about the ending.. in the 90s anime serie the ending was just like vash holding his brother and taking it alive to the city and I just couldn't swallow that ... Bring the monster to the city...the writer is making another problem and not fixing it makes a gap in the ending so you're just going to think how this solve the main problem of the story It's logically based on the character building will end up with knives killing all the people after he wakes up cuz he's still alive and haven't changed (correct me if I'm wrong) And the other problem that Vash can't let his brother die because he can't kill in the first place That's a sort of paradox But away from that I will give the manga a big clap for the way it ends the life of knives it just fixes everything and fits the character building and the story
I saw knives cloak as a call back to how Tesla died, wrapping himself in the cancer that killed her :) kinda leaning into the obsessive insanity of the man
That could be and that's a pretty cool thought, but I don't think any deeper meaning will make me respect the choice for him to wear that. I just really can't take him seriously. XD
A little fact in advance. I never finished reading the manga... not all volumes have been published in Germany and I still refuse to read them in English. But for me the manga was and is the best so far. it will probably always be. i love the new upswing the new series has caused. i love the fans. they are super sweet and joyful. i love the artworks of the artists who celebrate with me and was very happy to meet some of the producers of the new series at a con recently. I now call it my “unhealthy love” because no matter what, I will never be able to reach them. The manga with Vash was a big part of my youth and no series has captivated me so much and made me become a fangirl.
Having also watched and read all available Trigun I'd say my heart lies on the manga for sure. I watched the original anime first way back when, but the manga captivated me the most, and certainly made me cry the most. But I hold both animations close and dear to me, they are different for sure, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Their differences are what make this series special to me, each with strengths and weaknesses of their own. “Trigun will always be Trigun, no matter how much you rework on it,” Yasuhiro Nightow (Trigun Stampede staff panel) Anime Expo 2022
Also do note Vash and Knives forms in the manga and 90's anime when they use their "Plant" abilities have more of an Angel look where in Trigun Stampede is scifi alien with angel like comparisons. I also believe Knives is not dead, but survives and will return in Stargaze.
“The manga has a lot of lighter moments” proceeds to show Vash and Livio stress eating one of the most horrible days in their lives. Not that the scene wasn’t funny. But oh boy 😅
Video misses the philosophical tone of the 90's anime. There are tons of internal monologue and subtle character development lacking from Stampede, which balance out the comedy. I'd argue the 90's version is both more comedic and more dramatic than Stampede, whilst Stampede has more action and a faster pacing. Otherwise, good video.
I hope this does inspire more people to read the manga too I watched the first anime, but it just does not hold a candle to the manga. The gun ho guns are so dark and metal and brutal badasses. the conflicts are so much more personal. Vash verses legato Vash verses wolfwood Even Vash verses knives Humanities fear of vash and knives, even the gung ho guns who are monsters they deep down fear vash and knives. The manga wrote it all so well And finally the art, yasuhiro nightows ability as a manga artist were truly INSPIRING, he draws amazing expressions on peoples faces, he can draw goofy scenes and serious scenes SO WELL. I think originally Trigun manga directly competed against the Hellsing manga, as they were both ongoing and people seemed drawn to Hellsing, I personally felt like Trigun had more depth to it than Hellsing had. But this is why I think so few people would talk of Trigun yet so many more people talked about Hellsing, it just seems to give people more of the dark gritty violence they craved, but in its absence, people might eventually go back and give Trigun a chance. I hope so.
I'm just going to say it. But disclaimer first, you are awesome and your hard work shines through. This is a quality video with an amazing amount of value. Left a like, etc. Sorry in advance. "Sim-you-lar"? You know it's spelled SIMILAR, right? Everyone on the face of this huge earth says "sim- uh -ler". This bothered me the entire time.
XD I'm glad you liked the video. Honestly, with how many comments I've gotten about that, pronouncing "similar" like that massively contributed to the success of this video XD
I really like Trigun. I first watched Stamped some weeks ago due to its cover, it called my atention. I really enojyed it and liked it so after hearing about the 98 Version I watched it. And after that I went to the Manga which I finished some days ago and it was so good! Personally I liked them in this order: Manga>>Stamped>>'98 Version. The only thing I genuinly disliked about Stamped was... Well... _Knives basically forcing Vash to get their "sisters" preganant??_ I know they are not Human... But They still Human Like 🫢 Even before watching the other Version and Manga when I saw that I was like "Wah- 😵💫" and after everything, I find it even weirder... Idk what they are planing to do with that. Are we going to see Vash looking for His Kids in S2 or something? 😂 Then, the only thing that still comfuses me from the Manga is Vash's hair. We are told their hair turn black after using all their energy ding afterwards... But Vash ended with his hair compleatly Black but didn't die... So what happened? His life span was only reduce to that of a normal human? Idk.
I think it was right at the breaking point where if he used anymore angel power he would die. So at the end, he is just back to being a gunman and can't use any of his world-destroying powers anymore. It kinda resets him to back where he was at the beginning of the story without his memories.
And yeah, overall Stampede is the most bizarre of the three. Some things are obvious references to the manga and then some parts just kinda come out of nowhere. XD
My favorite part in the manga was Wolfwood's final fight with Livio, it was bad ass, at least how it ended. I read it 10 years ago and I'll always remember that panel with bullets rapped around Livio
10:55 I'm not sure if I missinterpreted it while I read the manga but I thought Knives passed out from seeing Tesla and never fully got to process the trauma in the way Vash did, leaving him with a whole wrong view on the whole situation and humans in general
Other things I'd like to point out: - Monev the Gale was mentioned with that name in Stampede too - as dumb as Knives' hoodie and his skintight suit may look, it has very distinct meaning and as strange the other characters were redesigned, Studio Orange has confirmed that there is a TON of symbolism going on with everyone. For example Legato's and Livio's designs were based on their very early appearances in the manga - I think it was fantastic that they gave Zazie way more spotlight in Stampede since they were a very important character in the manga and awfully got brushed off in the 98 anime - so far, I don't like what they did with Elendira in Stampede, her just being this bratty kid that's a clone of Knives for some reason as opposed to the manga where she was a badass trans woman who was basically ranked the 13th of the Gung Ho Guns but I'll just let Studio Orange cook for now and I'm excited to see what else they got in store for us - another interesting difference I find is the amount of religious symbolism/the plants being more like angels (especially Vash growing feathers or even turning into a feathery beast when experiencing extreme stress) and overall the amount of body horror in the manga that neither of the anime really did Overall though this video was very intriguing and well made and definitely explains the major differences and I too hope it inspired people to read the manga because omg its such a fantastic piece of media
Those are good points! I didn't cover much of the gung-go-guns in this video because there is so many differences between them. That could be a whole different video XD I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for your comment :)
Don’t have time to watch video right now, will watch later. But based on title, as someone who has seen/read all three: 1. 90’s Anime 2. Manga 3. Stampede That’s how’d I rank em personally.
Ahh, you missed one aspect of comparison. I think the 90s anime wins this category - best opening music and sequence. I do like Trigun Stampede's opening music and it's style of an opening scene into title card into main story. But 90s anime Trigun has music that goes hard, is frenetic, and matches the style of that anime.
It's not even a competition. The music aged perfectly. It's amazing! The ending isn't my favorite, but it has its charm. Stampede's is just really forgettable, but it's not bad. It really doesn't fit the story. At least not what it's based off of.
I like all 3 versions and I don't see an issue with having more than 1 story exist for specific manga/anime etc. I mean, how many Spider-Man, Batman, Superman etc. original stories exist out there, that share the same backstory, villains and motivations, but everything else is completely different?
Yeah for sure. I would much rather have a story that is faithful to the original manga, however. If you are going to make it that much different, why piggyback off of an existing work? Just make your own thing.
Apart from being a bad adaptation, it's really nothing special. Just fine overall and super rushed, so you're not missing much except for seeing some cool references to the manga.
One annoying detail for me is Vash's gun in the manga and 90s anime is a .45, but in Stampede is a .22. To those that aren't much for guns, it may not seem like alot just looking at the numbers, but a .22 calibre round is one of the weakest calibre ever, probably the weakest common calibre, bar some extremely rare no longer produced rounds that are collector items. A .45, on the other hand, is one of the strongest common hand gun calibres, short of the .50 AE and .500 Magnum, or specialty and collector rounds. A .22 can kill, but won't do a lot of damage, and you have to hit spots like the brain, heart, or artery to kill. A .45 will leave a huge wound, and will kill unless professionally treated.
i see a lot of people hate on stampede, and while i havent finished it yet, i cant help but feel like its hate is undeserved? people are often rating the show based almost purely on its designs and how different it is from the 98 anime, with people treating it like a finished product when it absolutely isnt, we still have 1 more season to go and as a net total, its differences from the manga are about the same as 98, as 98 basically only adapted the first 3 volumes of 14 total am i missing something? because im liking stampede a whole lot so far after jumping from the 98 anime
I don't think Stampede is necessarily a bad show but I do hate it and it's mostly because of the characters. Vash being a funny weirdo to hide his extremely dark past and pain was core to his character. And that is mostly stripped away. Meryl was similar, pleasant on the outside but also tough and willing to fight. Wildwood was more true to his character, compared to the manga, but he lost all subtly. I will argue that the differences of adaptation are huge. 90s Trigun faithfully adapted quite a few chapters and then took its own ending. Stampe has taken a few ideas from the manga and created it's own totally original story.
@@KBWanime i absolutely get that pov, but heres the thing, were only halfway through the show, and that halfway point is the july incident, which was the jump off point from the manga, i find it likely were going to see more the the characters we know and love in the next season, especially with vash because of july just my two cents though time will tell i guess
Yeah for sure. I am interested in what will come next, but they already took my favorite parts away so I doubt I'll like it much more. The ending of Stampede did make me smile admittedly, when Vash's hair flies up like his original design, so we'll see.
This is very late but I just finished the 90's anime today and I really loved it I did think about reading the manga that I definitely do thanks to you but I don't think I'll watch the stampede anime because it just isn't my style if you know what I mean however thank you so much for making this video and if you read this, thanks for reading :p
The first 4 episodes of the 90's I would not consider filler. 1st, Character building is paramount, and adds to a re-watch value knowing he does everything consciously. 2nd, it adds to the Christian undertones this show has, they kidna play out as Saturday morning cartoon messages... 1st ep is about miracles. 2nd is about greed, 3rd is about grief, 4th is about revenge and redemption.
I agree. They are very purposeful and tell a story and actually like it better than the manga because of things like the running gag of Meryl not believing Vash. But technically it is filler by the manga standpoint.
I'm guessing the reason for not adapting some parts of the backstory is that depictions of suicide could cause a wave of imitation generally. But it could be they want to keep it for S2. Wolfwood death is likely for S2 ( Stampede seems like to be an extension of Trigun story by "moving some parts to before" )
I really liked the pacing of the old anime. It had a good slow burn of content and Vash's backstory. And the wholeintro filler arc worked as a good build up. 5 whole episodes before he actually fired a gun. Stampede feels off to me. When watching it i felt like they rushed a few of the backstory into the foreground incredibly quickly. Personally the pace of this series doesn't resonate with me well. The Monev the Gale segment is where I don't like Stampede. I liked the fact that Vash and Rolo have a diffrent relationship. But the fire in Vash's eyes in the og series during the closing of that arc just resonated with me more. The bit that got me is Stampede isn't trigun. In the OG a reason why it was implied to be called Trigun is vash has 3 guns (Revolver, gunarm and angel gun) stampede he only has 2 guns and the name instead at this point represents Vash, Wolfwood and Meryl each with 1 gun.
Absolutely. Stampede feels kinda soulless. It's totally fine, but nothing special. I love those first episodes of 90s Trigun too! I was surprised they weren't from the manga.
@@KBWanime The 90's show is up there as 1 of the series' I wish I could forget just to watch fresh again. Whenever I rewatch it I am counting down until my favorite episodes. The suspenseful feeling I got the first time I watched episode 5 and vash said "Until I find this man you are looking for, I have no choice but to keep moving forward." That scene gave me chills. The other scene that shows the kind of person he is was when he shot at Monev's visor. Followed by him pinning him down at gunpoint. I feel those scenes mean more because of the pacing.
@@KBWanime exactly. I would even say the extra 4 episodes at the start help even more because you have more time to see Vash's personality and the subtle hints at the broken person he is under the surface. It is often said the people acting the most energetic, excessive drinking and playing up vices are often the ones hurting most. And Vash is a prime example of all of these.
First of all, I want to say thank you for making such an amazing comparison video, ive learned so much I have to say, as a HUUUUGE fan of the 90s anime, I was a bit offended when you said the fight with Knives in that show was rushed and half-baked, along with Knives himself. To me, its like you missed the point, which is understandable if watching purely from a comparative viewpoint. The biggest thing to me for the 90s show is that it was all about Vash himself and his point of view and his personal journey. Because of that, the show overall was very philosophical by nature and you didnt need to know super deeply about Knives as a person as honestly it wasnt that important, only his motivations. Establishing and building the philosophical conflict between the two through their shared past and the gung-ho guns battles is the basis of the show; each event was set up like a debate, where older brother Knives was trying to show Vash the truth and younger brother Vash spent most of the show running away from it. It was as if the two were having a heated argument for 15 episodes, even though they were never in the same room at all until ep 26. Because of that, the final battle never felt rushed and knives never felt flat; Knives' purpose was to be an ever looming specter that only actually became real when Vash finally decided to fight for his beliefs head on and the previous 25 episodes was Vash getting himself ready for that moment. And thats what makes the final battle being so short and sweet even more appropriate. Theres almost zero words spoken in the entire 20 min episode, which thus further brings more emphasis to their philosophical conflict. I also love how instead of taking the easy way out and having Knives die, it sets up another all-new season (that will never come), where Vash will take care of his brother and introduce Knives to Vash's philosophy through literally living Vash's life, which is a new way of fulfilling Vash's promise to Rem and allowing Vash to finally move forward with his life. Because of that, instead of feeling like i was watching a cool show, it felt extremely relatable to me as a person. I could apply Vash's struggles and mental battles in my own life, and I doubt that the manga and stampede could accomplish that as well as the 90s anime did, as the approaches are so different.
TLDR Vash vs Knives in the 90s show was never about Vash vs Knives, but more simply about Vash finally conquering his greatest fear and biggest personal demon, which he spent 25 episodes gathering courage to do (more or less), so Knives being as fleshed out as possible and the battle being some big anime spectacle was not important.
I'm glad you liked the video! I appreciate hearing that. As for Knives being a halfbaked villain and the final fight being rushed, I did mean specifically in comparison to the other. I do agree with you and there's a lot of depth to the story, however, I still think Knives isn't built up well and the final fight is kinda underwhelming. Thematically it might work but as a story it does fall somewhat flat. It's a pretty good fight with a lot going on, but overall it feels like it comes out of nowhere and ends abruptly.
Thanks a ton! It was just what I was looking for. I wanted to see differences from the differences between Stampede and the manga, but everywhere I looked it just compared the two anime versions without taking into account the actual source material. I love the original anime a lot, but since I read a great deal of the manga years ago I also knew how different it was and how much more story was left on the table since a lot of it came out after the original anime's run. While Stampede is clearly it's own thing and distinct from the manga, I'm happy it's pulling in more plot elements from the manga since the original anime always did feel a bit flat when it came to some characters and that overly convenient, quick ending never sat well with me. Also, I can't wait to have Milly back, and I will be very upset if they change her horribly like they did the new-damsel-in-distress Meryl... (hopefully she grows into someone more likeable in the next season)
Absolutely! I noticed there weren't many videos comparing the manga at all. For being a classic anime, it's source material is never talked about. It's really weird. Glad you liked the video!
i liked the original, but suprising, i like more the remake one. somehow vash caharter is more "catchy" for me. only legato become "broken" somehow. but the cahnges for me is more understable things. anyway, if not follow the original manga.
The death of Wolfwood panel from the manga is hands down one of my favorite manga panels in history. It hits every emotion it needs to tell. So after actually finishing the video, Maximum is one of my favorite manga of all time with the anime being my number 1, including both versions. I gotta say as a whole the manga is definitely superior but Stampede is my personal favorite way of consumption for the story as Orange did such a phenomenal job. And even with the few grips I have with Stampede, the first half I still like more than the og. The OG anime is a solid show but has the weird paradox of being far worse after reading the manga but also that much better. Really excited to see what path Orange will take on the back half of Stampede
Honestly the only thing I really prefered in the manga was Wolfwood's death as i felt that was done better in their. As for pretty much everything, i really didn't see the manga as any more superior to the 98 anime.
This comment is throwing me XD No one has liked me mispronouncing similar and liking Knive's hood is a terrible take XD I appreciate that you liked the video! XD
27:29 Remember when you said you hated the hoodie that Knives wears? Well, look at 28:26. You can see what could be the reason for the hoodie on the left hand side of the page.
i found this video suuuuper informative as someone whose been trying to comprehend the sequences of the three shows and i thank you for making it so much simpler. i do ask though, can you list the songs found at around 4:00 and 8:30?
Glad you enjoyed it! And of course, a creator named Mr Dark allowed me to use his song. Here's a link to it. It's also in the description of the video. ua-cam.com/video/EoMU1BcN_BM/v-deo.htmlsi=Yf9TXo6IoMS6syKW
@@KBWanime its really good! thanks! tho im also wondering what the other track is thats in 4:00 as i realised quickly after this that the one of 8:30 was in the description lol
Oh yeah. Sorry. Didn't realize the different tracks at first. That one is part of the UA-cam Music Library. It's called "Caballero" by Ofshane. It's my usual track for the background music of my videos.
I did myself a favor, watching 98 before Stampede. Tristamp was sure as hell a piece of fine artwork, no complaints about that, but the story was sabotaged. Tristamp Vash was portrayed as the depressed wet cat who doesn't stand up for himself in a pacifism so intense it's almost idiotic. And don't get me started with how mad I got at weakly developed characters of Wolfwood, Legato and Livio. (they sabotaged the backstory of Vash and Knives...) All in all, manga wins it all for me. Knives was actually a very well developed villain and you could love him for that. Trimax Legato is my favorite, I like him despite the a-hole-ness. And the ending was magnificent.
Unfortunately, Stampede was all over the place, but a lot of people really seemed to like it. Knowing what it was based on, I hated it. They might turn it around in the sequel, but I'm not counting on much. Manga is so much better than the others, but reading it also brought a lot of appreciation for the anime as well because I could see what they were trying to do.
@@KBWanime exactly, and for the same reason I told my friend (whom I'm bullying into trigun) to watch stampede before going for the manga, so she won't get mad at the disaster it was. The manga is surely *chef's kiss*. It tore apart my soul and I gladly re-read it multiple times. No regrets. Kudos to the awesome vid 👍👍
Me too. He could have become less happy as the story went on, but he was never the comical version except for like one moment in the first episode. If he was, I would have liked Stampede a LOT more.
I wonder if it's because the anime end before manga is the turning point they change a lot of things in 1998 specially wolfwood dead, I'd be interesting to see that couch scene animated but oh boi do i ready for tristampe wolfwood dead
They definitely had that turning point to base their story off of, but they didn't because they didn't have enough time to pay off all that was set up, I'm guessing. There are things that happen later in the manga that are adapted in the anime.
YES PEOPLE NEED TO STOP SEEING STAMPEDE AS A CONNECTED STORY. LIKE STAMPEDE IS AN ADAPTATIONAL PREQUEL WHERE THE EVENTS ARE SIMILAR ENOUGH TO BE CONSIDERED A PREQUEL BUT DIFFERENT ENOUGH THAT ITS A PREQUEL TO ITS OWN SOLO STORY
I absolutely LOVE the 1998 anime, I'm still looking for the manga (they are expensive these days and I'm a huge fan of hard copies) I dislike Trigun Stampeded, mainly for the animation. I HATE that trend of animation and it tears me away from it... Some day I'll watch it... maybe...
The manga has been out of print for a while, but a deluxe edition is going into print later this year, so I'd check into that. I also dislike Stampede's animation, but the story was so different, it's barely even Trigun at all.
I'll have to check that out! Hopefully the deluxe reprint isn't outrageously priced :X also, that's honestly what I was afraid of most, your video covered so much on this topic and gave me a great idea of what to expect haha. I knew the anime differed radically from the manga, but I think I remember hearing it was due to budget constraints and limited contracting which is also why there were only 26 episodes. I think Trigun deserves the same treatment Full Metal Alchemist got, with Brotherhood. The first anime was great, but it was just SO much better in Brotherhood!@@KBWanime
It does need that. They are both the same, with only a fraction of the manga being completed when working on the anime so they had to make an original ending. Trigun came out in the 90s but the manga didn't finish until 2007. I was hoping Stampede would be the Trigun Brotherhood but unfortunately not.
You could say there’s three guns, a Trigun if you will.
I like when trigun said it's trigunning time and gunned the tri
Sir you are a gentleman and a scholar
This comment is painfully underrated.
I don't know why I never replied to it.... I'll fix this
@@KBWanime Thank you for making it right 🙏
Honestly seeing “Alive” on Tesla in Stampede feels more horrifying than if she was dead.
Agreed. Either way fits the story though. They're both terrible.
@@KBWanime yeah, but seeing a horribly mutilated body somehow still register vital readings is disturbing.
It was actually so creepy
@@corrinflakes9659Jesus loves you
Knives going to a church begging for them to take care of his brother is both ironic and funny
Yeah XD It's a really great ending!
So basically:
Trigun 90's anime: Normal ending.
Trigun stampede: prequel dlc ending.
Trigun manga: true ending.
That's a good description XD
The manga ending was just too pure and real to translate into CGI I guess 🤷🏻♂️
@@LordThreeCGI?💀, buddy it was animated lmao. And no it wasn’t “too hard”. The 90’s anime was catching up to the manga too fast, so the author gave them an alternate route to animate. Hence why the last like 12 episodes r considered “filler”. When in reality the author basically just wrote 2 different versions. One for his manga and one for the anime.
@@-God_Usopp read what you just wrote. Read it again. Stampede came out after the Manga was finished dip$h!t
@@LordThree It’s not CGI. That’s a bit different
Seeing people debate over which anime was closer to the manga all over made me really curious to see the differences between them all, so thanks for making the exact video I was hoping to see when I went searching - very thorough and well done!
Glad I could help! I also made this video because of that debate. XD
honestly i dont think either of the adaptions are original to the manga at all. perhaps season 2 of stampede might stick to being more original since season 1 was more of a prequel.
I could talk for HOURS about how much more impactful the manga's fifth moon incident is compared to both the anime versions im so glad you pointed it out! Literally gave me shivers when i read it omg.
It is incredible! I would love to see a faithful adaptation. It would be so amazing!
I actually prefer Anime Wolfwood's death because he doesn't get a heroic sacrifice.
He just, dies.
He died doing the right thing, absolutely. But it hits so much harder cause it leaves both the audience and Wolfwood feeling like he had more left to achieve within the story
Same! I really appreciate messy storytelling like that. It's not too much, it's just right enough to be shocking and sad and realistic.
💯
The premature death feeling made it hit so damn deep! Very relatable, as this is such a strong reminder of mortality. Our own, and those we've loved that were ripped away from us all too early through violent means. Folks that had so much light that they were about to change the world one piece at a time.
[EDIT]
folks like Wolfwood, folks not dissimilar to Vash...
Simply another peak video essay randomly given to me by the algorithm, nice job
Thank you so much :) I got a lot more video essays on the channel if you've got time ;)
Wouldn’t say Knives repressed the memory of what happened.
Thanks! I wasn't a huge fan of Stampede, but I still cheered the moment he got his signature hair back XD
I scream when his hair went up
9:25
Point of order.
Trigun is such a unique story in all its iterations, it's awe-inspiring to me as a writer. The style, the themes, the characters, the world, I can't get over it ;-;
It is incredible! Such a unique world and story and characters.
Yeah, the Trigun Manga wins by a lot. Both anime adaptations are pretty much on the same level, but the OG is better as of now. We'll have to wait for the rest of Stampede to decide if it's better than the original one.
It could definitely improve a lot, but the original has a certain charm. An accurate adaptation would be incredible though.
I just dont like the character design of stampede. Knives doesnt look like he does in the og anime and manga , hopefully he looks like it in s2
I like Trigun Stampedes Vash as a more naive and sad version if they show us a contrast with the Vash after the July incident where he still has the same values but taking a more active role and you can tell he is just tired of lossing folks
I think (and hope) that's what they are going for. I will definitely enjoy the next part more if that is the case.
3:25 Meryl was a reporter BEFORE being an insurance agent, and then becomes a reporter again in the manga.
WOLFWOOD DIES WTF I JUST WATCHED STAMPEDE AND NOW IK HES GONNA DIE IN S2 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Ok I just reached the part where he says wolfwood dies so damn...
I really wish they had stuck to the manga. It would have been so cool to see it animated! Hopefully, it'll get it eventually.
I'm new with ghe fandom, but I heard the creator were fully involved in Stampede. I think he was trying to give a new breath to his work.
@@KBWanime i know this is very late but studio orange was told to not do a one to one adaptation. the creator of trigun wanted them to add their things to it. this is discussed better in a trash taste episode that has i think the director of the show on it. i suggest watching it
I kinda like that in the 98 anime Wolfwood is not a genetically modified soldier. He's just some hot guy carrying the super heavy Punisher.
I like that a lot too XD He's way more cool when he's just some preacher dude
@@KBWanime My favorite backstory is from the manga, but I love the fact that there’s this guy with a giant cross just because.
I do love the fact that the Insurance Agency is basically trying to push Vash as an "act of god" style natural disaster, likely to get out of costly insurance payouts.
Even in a post apocalypse on another world insurance is still insurance XD
I'm really glad you enjoyed it :)
I didn't notice that detail. That's pretty cool. I'm guessing they will go more into those things in season 2. Even if they aren't adapting the manga, they still take a lot of aspects from it.
I love all 3 versions.
Although i prefer the 90s vash vs knives over the stampede.
I grounded duel is more satisfying than an animatio galore.
Yeah. For sure. I love the vibe of the 90s anime.
19:56 Actually Livio was retrieved at the end of Stampede so his story isn't quite done yet
Ah. I didn't notice that. He still had a very disappointing showing
This was so well-made. Thank you!
I appreciate it!
Great video! I had no idea the 90s anime was so different from the manga. I will definitely have to check it out at some point.
Definitely! It's a great story! Glad you liked my video! :)
Currently rereading the manga, i had forgotten just how much there is in the manga and how far it goes. Great video!
It is an extremely underappreciated manga!
Thanks!
Glad you liked the video and I'm glad you were inspired to read the manga! It's really underrated!
I just wanna say I love the really subtle version of Tombi playing in the background ❤
That was thanks to @MrDarkLofi His music is great, and he was nice enough to let me use his song.
The link to his channel and the song is in the description. I recommend checking him out!
I prefer the 98 anime but i think all of the trigun series are really good
I'm glad you enjoyed them. I liked them all except Stampede, but the ending was pretty good
Until I see *him* again... I CANNOT AFFORD TO STOP MOVING!!!
That's such a good line!
great analysis of all the variations! i have to say i am so excited to see where stampede goes from here, especially with Knives and Legato, I think Legato is such an interesting character in Maximum and shows a side of Knives that no other version has shown so far (him not killing him even though he's human and taking him under his wing). I'm hoping they give knives the rebirth arc, making him more pissed than ever at humanity.
Thank you! They can definitely turn this to do a lot that the manga did and that would be awesome! Although Stampede wasn't my favorite, I am very curious about what they will do with the next part!
@@KBWanime i cant help but wonder what could have been if Mappa did an adaptation of Trigun Maximum. it would have been legendary!
That would be incredible!
I'm happy to see trigun getting alot more recognition due to the new anime which means more videos about trigun are made 😊
Even though I don't love the new series, it is great to see Trigun getting more recognition! I really wanted to bring more attention to the manga because it's really underrated. A lot of people don't even know it exists!
@@KBWanime exactly , the manga is great
yeah regardless of how stampede handled things, i am forever grateful that it breathed new life into the trigun fandom. now i get to see so much beautiful trigun fanart.
@@Nopeasaurus I'm on the same page as you bro that's how I see it aswell
@@KBWanime I feel the same way! I’d love to see the manga more accessible 🙌🏻
Glad you liked the video :)
Stampede was actually what got me into Trigun! Very glad to be here now. :)
That's awesome! I don't love Stampede, but I'm glad it got you into Trigun!
Same. After stampede I watched 98's version and I really liked it
@@mirabela1344 Sameee. Vash has become such a comfort character for me, I've actually changed my name to Vash since I'm trans. xD

FANTASTIC VIDEO 10/10
Glad you enjoyed it!
90s anime was amazing and the manga was good but stampede is chaos just like a lot of stuff now days
It definitely felt modern and not necessarily in a good way.
Awesome recap, you did a great job. One small nitpick is that the word is "similar", not "simular."
I really enjoyed this, thank you!
I've gotten many simular comments about that XD
I'm really glad you enjoyed it! :)
Absolutely! There's so much depth and subtlety to the story that got lost in Stampede. Hopefully the second part is better.
I wouldn't call that romance but maybe setting up romance for later. We'll have to see in part 2 if it goes anywhere.
Glad you liked the video! :)
I've been on this platform for a quite some time and every time I see once again an exceptional creator it's nice to sub along the journey. Keep going we know you are going places
I really appreciate that! Thank you so much! I'll do my best to make the journey interesting!
@@KBWanime We know you will
Thanks for this breakdown… I was having a hard time getting through the new anime but wanted a comparison just like this one to see if I was gonna stick through it haha.
Yeah... Stampede is best thought of as an entirely new story. I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
i became a trigun fan fairly recently and read the manga before watching stampede or the 90s anime, theres just something about trimax that really cannot be topped by the animated adaptions.
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it! :)
Thank you for making this. This was very interesting and i enjoyed watching it. Good job ^w^
Thank you for watching! I appreciate it! :)
Very interesting video. 90's Trigun is one of the only anime I watched, and I was curious to see how it differed from the manga and Stampede.
Glad you enjoyed it! :) I thought it was really interesting how they all differed.
as a person who read the manga before watching both anime’s I was very disappointed to know they changed vash and knives backstory so much the manga will always be so much more impactful for me never cried so much reading a manga haha!
Damn, poor guy deserves it...
For sure. I really like Meryl and Vash together too. They have a really great dynamic
Thank you for covering my favorite series of all time 🙌 This was awesome
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching! This series is really good. So underrated.
@@KBWanime For sure.
I might. That would be a much easier video to make XD
I'm really glad you enjoyed it! I agree. Although I liked a lot of what the 90s anime did with Wolfwood, it is an incomplete story. The manga is a more thought out story compared to the thrown together 90s anime.
stampede feels like they wanted to make a prequel but also not make one at the same time.
Yeah.
One day people will learn to appreciate Badlands Rumble
Just watched that again a few days ago to review on my podcast. I like it, but it's not my favorite.
@@KBWanime beats stampede, not as good as the 90s anime
I agree. It's cool seeing the original style with good looking animation too.
Something you haven't noticed or just haven't mentioned
I want to add something about the ending.. in the 90s anime serie the ending was just like vash holding his brother and taking it alive to the city and I just couldn't swallow that
... Bring the monster to the city...the writer is making another problem and not fixing it makes a gap in the ending so you're just going to think how this solve the main problem of the story
It's logically based on the character building will end up with knives killing all the people after he wakes up cuz he's still alive and haven't changed (correct me if I'm wrong)
And the other problem that Vash can't let his brother die because he can't kill in the first place
That's a sort of paradox
But away from that I will give the manga a big clap for the way it ends the life of knives it just fixes everything and fits the character building and the story
This was brilliant. Subscribed.
Thank you! Glad you liked it!
XD
@@KBWanime fair enough, it is one of his more unhinged crimes
That's awesome! Most people only remember the 90s anime and didn't even know there was a manga! It's really cool you read it when you were young.
Good points! I think I get more into that in a different video, but honestly, it's been so long I don't remember. XD
I hope this does inspire more people to read the manga too
I watched the first anime, but it just does not hold a candle to the manga.
The gun ho guns are so dark and metal and brutal badasses.
the conflicts are so much more personal.
Vash verses legato
Vash verses wolfwood
Even Vash verses knives
Humanities fear of vash and knives, even the gung ho guns who are monsters they deep down fear vash and knives.
The manga wrote it all so well
And finally the art, yasuhiro nightows ability as a manga artist were truly INSPIRING, he draws amazing expressions on peoples faces, he can draw goofy scenes and serious scenes SO WELL.
I hope so.
It is a great manga and it's surprising how few people even know it exists! It is being reprinted so hopefully that brings more attention to it.
@@KBWanime Oh whoa! XD I guess if it's working! 😂
It's such a small thing to be bothered by, but every time he said it that's all I could think about😂
I really like Trigun.
But They still Human Like 🫢
Even before watching the other Version and Manga when I saw that I was like "Wah- 😵💫" and after everything, I find it even weirder... Idk what they are planing to do with that. Are we going to see Vash looking for His Kids in S2 or something? 😂
Then, the only thing that still comfuses me from the Manga is Vash's hair.
The Manga has so many awesome moments!
10:55
I'm not sure if I missinterpreted it while I read the manga but I thought Knives passed out from seeing Tesla and never fully got to process the trauma in the way Vash did, leaving him with a whole wrong view on the whole situation and humans in general
Other things I'd like to point out:
- Monev the Gale was mentioned with that name in Stampede too
- as dumb as Knives' hoodie and his skintight suit may look, it has very distinct meaning and as strange the other characters were redesigned, Studio Orange has confirmed that there is a TON of symbolism going on with everyone. For example Legato's and Livio's designs were based on their very early appearances in the manga
- I think it was fantastic that they gave Zazie way more spotlight in Stampede since they were a very important character in the manga and awfully got brushed off in the 98 anime
- so far, I don't like what they did with Elendira in Stampede, her just being this bratty kid that's a clone of Knives for some reason as opposed to the manga where she was a badass trans woman who was basically ranked the 13th of the Gung Ho Guns but I'll just let Studio Orange cook for now and I'm excited to see what else they got in store for us
- another interesting difference I find is the amount of religious symbolism/the plants being more like angels (especially Vash growing feathers or even turning into a feathery beast when experiencing extreme stress) and overall the amount of body horror in the manga that neither of the anime really did
Overall though this video was very intriguing and well made and definitely explains the major differences and I too hope it inspired people to read the manga because omg its such a fantastic piece of media
That is pretty much what happens, but even after that, Rem explains it to him and tries to help him through the trauma.
Those are good points! I didn't cover much of the gung-go-guns in this video because there is so many differences between them. That could be a whole different video XD
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for your comment :)
@@KBWanime yeahh true you got a good point haha! No problem though! Keep up the cool content!
Thanks! I appreciate it :)
Don’t have time to watch video right now, will watch later. But based on title, as someone who has seen/read all three:
1. 90’s Anime
2. Manga
3. Stampede
That’s how’d I rank em personally.
👌
I never knew about Stampede version. What the hell did they do to my man's awesome coat?
Yeah.... It was a recent adaptation, but very disappointing for me...
@@KBWanime I think I'm gonna skip it, even though I love Trigun... maybe I'm skipping it because so.
That is a very weird change. If anything, it seems they would want to make it more extreme.
I thought it showed how much he wanted to avoid accidentally killing with his gun
Great video!
Thank you!
i see a lot of people hate on stampede, and while i havent finished it yet, i cant help but feel like its hate is undeserved? people are often rating the show based almost purely on its designs and how different it is from the 98 anime, with people treating it like a finished product when it absolutely isnt, we still have 1 more season to go
and as a net total, its differences from the manga are about the same as 98, as 98 basically only adapted the first 3 volumes of 14 total
am i missing something? because im liking stampede a whole lot so far after jumping from the 98 anime
@@KBWanime i absolutely get that pov, but heres the thing, were only halfway through the show, and that halfway point is the july incident, which was the jump off point from the manga, i find it likely were going to see more the the characters we know and love in the next season, especially with vash because of july
just my two cents though
time will tell i guess
Yeah for sure. I am interested in what will come next, but they already took my favorite parts away so I doubt I'll like it much more. The ending of Stampede did make me smile admittedly, when Vash's hair flies up like his original design, so we'll see.
stampede has very slow start good part are in second half so no wonder people didn't give it a chance
I love stampede bc I look at it as its own thing, not associated with trigun
That's the best way to look at it. Trigun inspired separate story
This is very late but I just finished the 90's anime today and I really loved it I did think about reading the manga that I definitely do thanks to you but I don't think I'll watch the stampede anime because it just isn't my style if you know what I mean however thank you so much for making this video and if you read this, thanks for reading :p
Glad you enjoyed it! The manga is awesome, but very different from the anime. I highly recommend!
Wolfwood death is likely for S2
( Stampede seems like to be an extension of Trigun story by "moving some parts to before" )
I love all three versions so much~
That's great! I hope you enjoyed seeing the comparison of each of them!
Absolutely! The build up and mystery just makes everything hit harder.
First of all, I want to say thank you for making such an amazing comparison video, ive learned so much
I have to say, as a HUUUUGE fan of the 90s anime, I was a bit offended when you said the fight with Knives in that show was rushed and half-baked, along with Knives himself.
@@KBWanime I highly disagree with this take, but I really appreciate you taking your time out to address mine. Tyvm!
Yeah. Thanks for commenting. I do think of the three 90s Trigun is my overall favorite.
This is AMAZING
Glad you enjoyed it :)
It is absolutely incredible.
Honestly the only thing I really prefered in the manga was Wolfwood's death as i felt that was done better in their. As for pretty much everything, i really didn't see the manga as any more superior to the 98 anime.
The manga is getting hardcover reprints next year so yes, it will be in print again!
That is so sick! I have to appreciate Stampede for bringing renewed interest into the series.
You know, I could have sworn I read the manga but hearing it described here, I don't think I did. 😂
Maybe you read something similar XD
I like the way you say "Sim-you-ler" 🤭
Anyway, great vid! Trigun is one of my fav stories ever 🔥
I also like new Knives new hood 😋
This comment is throwing me XD No one has liked me mispronouncing similar and liking Knive's hood is a terrible take XD
I appreciate that you liked the video! XD
27:29
Remember when you said you hated the hoodie that Knives wears?
Well, look at 28:26. You can see what could be the reason for the hoodie on the left hand side of the page.
Trigun is gonna be the 1st manga I read when the new hardcovers come out
The hard covers look sick!
i found this video suuuuper informative as someone whose been trying to comprehend the sequences of the three shows and i thank you for making it so much simpler. i do ask though, can you list the songs found at around 4:00 and 8:30?
Glad you enjoyed it! And of course, a creator named Mr Dark allowed me to use his song. Here's a link to it. It's also in the description of the video.

@@KBWanime thanks dude!
Yep! No problem!
(they sabotaged the backstory of Vash and Knives...)
All in all, manga wins it all for me.
I appreciate it! And I hope a lot more people get into the manga. It's surprising how many people don't even know there is a Trigun manga!
@@KBWanime Very much hope so! The manga is TRULY underrated. It deserves to be shown more love.
That's one of the reasons I made this video XD
Stampede was good. I just wish Vash was the comical, jolly, happy-go-lucky version that he was in the 90’s anime.
Me too. He could have become less happy as the story went on, but he was never the comical version except for like one moment in the first episode. If he was, I would have liked Stampede a LOT more.
I wonder if it's because the anime end before manga is the turning point they change a lot of things in 1998
specially wolfwood dead, I'd be interesting to see that couch scene animated but oh boi do i ready for tristampe wolfwood dead
Yep XD It's a little confusing, but that is true
@@KBWanime I feel like that’s why so many people judged it so harshly ngl
