I woke up this morning feeling really depressed then for some reason ended up watching this video and now I feel invigorated encouraged and ready to try my hand at life again. Thank you Dr Rangan Chatterjee for filling my morning with positive energy and giving me a practical guide to make the changes I need to make in my life. Now I know I won't lie on my deathbed full of regret for what I should have but never did.

The impact of reducing choices in this overwhelming world has really made an impact to me. Simple step, but now I consciencely decided where to part when I shop. Such a simple step but reduces the stress of choosing a parking space. I part far away and there is always a space in this aisle, and it is crazy how that reduced my stress of choosing a parking space.

Thank you. I am retired with a chronic health condition and low energy
I love your concept of eliminating choice to save brain power. There is so much choice I am often overwhelmed and exhausted just by reasearching choices !
I feel I need to create more routine as I have the whole day to fill and this can feel overwhelming when I have so little energy… maybe more routine during the day and guidance on this for those who don’t have a job might be helpful.

As a single mom I used to wake up an hour before I had to wake up my toddler. That hour was precious and peaceful. I treasured it. I would listen to motivational videos while I cooked breakfast and prepared our lunches. I needed that hope in my life to start everyday. It was like I had my own personal cheerleader every morning. That hour was so important to me and changed my life. At night I would fall asleep the same time as my son. Sleeping early was wonderful too. Sleeping early allowed me to get all the sleep I needed. Instead of having my alone time at night when I am exhausted, my alone time is the morning and I use it to motivate me snd charge me up.

Thank you Dr Chatterjee so much truth and inspiration in your words. When humankind realizes that we are just temporary travellers on this planet, and that does not matter how much we achieve and how high we go we all end up in the same place and don’t bring any possessions with us, it is only then that this planet will become a better place to live.
    All the best!

Beautiful heartfelt talk my beautiful friend 🌟 Everything You speak about is right on target.
This perhaps may sound rudimentary to some, but let me tell you, My friend here is speaking about things that transcend The importance of everything we do in our everyday lives. Essentially this is about Your happiness which is so important because when you're not happy, you cannot make others happy. Thank you brother, you are a blessing to Our universe 🫵❤️💫✨

Dr. Rangan: you certainly have a point there. However, I have known this for myself for years now and have been working on different methods to change my thinking, my habits, and then improve my life overall. I have been successful to a degree. However, due to PTSD and therefore a deregulated nervous system, I still struggle to achieve a fully fulfilling life. I’m doing all kinds of somatic exercises on my own and have done a few with a therapist, the therapy is expensive for me, especially because these things don’t get fixed within a month or two.
Many have very similar struggles like I do and yet do not even know that by improving their nervous system’s functionality many other things in their lives will improve.

Theres so many videos telling young adults to do x, y, z to be better but theres so many it makes it harder for me to choose one and move forward to better myself.

Great video and I'll definitely try to introduce some of these into my life. I think it would be very helpful if you did a summary at the end of the video or also in the description about the points you raised. People rarely take notes during a video so having them all listed at the end would be a great way to remind yourself which ones stood out. I'm quite sure doing this would increase the rate of application among viewers.

33:25 how much more do you see when you let someone else do the driving? I try to ‘ride share’ life with my husband, and even adult children when appropriate, so I can relax and enjoy the ride sometimes.
Sure slowing down helps, but there’s something about willingly getting in the passengers seat to life that is incredibly restorative.

Doctors spend most of their time living their best life. If they do two days a week, they're working hard. Most of them are claiming mental health issues. The maximum is four and half days a week for a shed load of money. I struggle to live my best life doing 72 hours a week for minimum pay.

Where there is too much choice for me: Health and fitness. I want to incorporate so much into my fitness routine, but end up feeling like a failure because I can’t fit it all in. I know I’ve set the bar too high, it’s unachievable as a working mum of two and all that entails. I have been trying to set up a morning routine for over a year but I don’t know what to do with my morning! Meditate? Journal? Read? Exercise? Which exercise? Yoga, HIIT, strength?! And food! Some say cut out carbs, go full keto, others say meat protein, plant based, fast like a girl, or simply skip breakfast, but not on day 25 of your cycle! 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️ It’s completely overwhelming and as you so rightly point out, it leads to doing nothing and for me, feeling like a complete failure.

I get bombarded by overwhelming choices when I come home from work. It feels as if though I finally have time for myself, so what should I be doing to maximize my free time. Usually I get overwhelmed by thr many things I could be doing. Another time when it feels like this is on my days off. It feels like now is the time to get everything I want to get done done. And before I know it I didn't do those things, I kinda wasted it away trying to decide on the best choice.

I understand Rangan although i dont live for the weekend and have never do so, but the UK economy depends on the young frittering away time and money down the drain on weekend binges reinstilled by advertisments, radio, tv to live for the weekend that is tradition to urinate (the best time in your life which is your youth) down the drain and over the years they realise the foolishness. By then its too late seek a more focused and productive and beneficial work life balance its the only way to remain sane, alive and keep depression and anxiety at bay.

  • @Thomasfboyle
    @Thomasfboyle 13 днів тому +4

Where is there too much choice?
I’m blessed to have too many choices in many ways.
    What to eat:
I cycle through a dozen meals every 2 weeks and only go shopping on Mondays so I am forced to just have a plan for the whole week on what’s for dinner.
What to study for a career:
I need help with this one still. I have worked hard for years, but now I want to work smart. I’m thinking sonography. So right now I spend my free time learning anatomy and hope I can save enough to start a program next year.
    What exercises are the best:
I want to be disciplined in weight lifting one day. For now I irregularly do bodyweight exercises at home following a simple plan from HybridCalisthenics.
How to give my time to others:
There is so much need for a helping hand in the world. Knowing where to start is difficult. My family, my friends, the poorest and most vulnerable people I pass by on the road, people in even more desperate situations in other countries?

Unfortunately in our capitalist societies, money is important to do most things. I am on a low income, I have never earned a lot of money, so the daily reflection or holiday never really changes things. I can't move back to my home area, can't afford it. The same with foreign holidays - never had one; don't have a passport. I go for walks, spend time outdoors, which helps, but when walking is your main mode of transport, along with a poor bus service even that can seem a chore. So please remember, not all of us have too much choice. I would love to go to a yoga class, use a gym, etc, but these are beyond my pocket.

Regardless of having a gym membership, I've often done yoga at home from UA-cam, I enjoy the UA-cam channel called Yoga with Adrian and do body strength exercises at home too without any equipment. I feel really good afterwards! Perhaps you could give these a go? Best of luck and I wish you all the best :)

@@shimone1941I use UA-cam for yoga; there's just enough room in my small flat for a yoga mat. It's difficult following it on a phone though, so I watch it a few times and then try it.
I have to keep physically active due to a hip condition; if I don't I will end up immobile and be in a far worse condition.

Real change is not supposed to be easy, there’s always reasons to not do the work. The practices you mention such as yoga or gym, don’t require any money or memberships.
Even though your plight is understandable, excuses are still excuses and will keep you stuck where you are. If that’s how you want to live the rest of your life and feel powerless, then at least take responsibility for it.

@@sifulam7967 I'm almost 64. I don't own my own home, I rent. I can't afford to run a car. Despite working very hard all my life to change what I had (and I have good qualifications to support me), very little has changed in my life.
I do yoga and strength training exercises that I have found on UA-cam - I have to do them because I have a hip condition, and it would worsen if I did not, and I would become immobile. I only have my smart phone so it's difficult following the videos on such a small screen, I watch them a few times first then do them myself.
I know I am lucky compared with some, I have a roof over my head and food to eat. In my job I help support people who have far less. The world can be a cruel place if you don't have enough money and things are getting worse.

    Is it about our doing?
Or is our being responsible for our satisfaction.

Thanks for your useful insights. A small comment, I prefer the term 'client' instead of 'patient'. Psychological problems are not illnesses to be cured.

I struggle with choice for lunch. I have lots of diet restrictions so I have to do my own meal prep. I basically eat the same thing for 3 days in a row. But there are sooo many lunch options. I get overwhelmed

I personally think after 50 might be the best option to take the easy way out rather than keep living… life is not easy neither enjoyful at the finest

Giving my children the choice of eating what they want for dinner because I don't want to end up throwing food away when I make something of my choice. I wish I could have less options and make what I think is good for them.
