My wife and I were at CES and we walked by you and she goes "Hey that was your camera guy on UA-cam" lol. Oh and if you want to collab on a dope new storage server for all your footage let me know ;)
Did you meet and talk to him ??
@@fkingnobodynah I chickened out
@@RaidOwl we need a collab coz i love both yall channels
Wasn’t expecting such fair comparison right at release! You definitely presented both their strength and weaknesses pretty well.
Big win for DJI for finally releasing their Mic 2. Really iterating on what made the original DJI Mic great. Just wish that you could keep all the accessories in one case rather than have a split soft case to store them.
Can we all just take a minute to recognize how great Gene is at consistently making high quality videos with unique ways of testing things all while getting different opinions and still incorporating everyone's personality. Truly one of a kind.
1M people acknowledge that already dear Brother.
he is making money from subscribers and sponsors duh
@@markthomas8018 is it bad to make money ?
Sounds better with noise cancelling off. The timber of your voice does change and it sounds better and more realistic with the ambient background noise. I can situations when it would be helpful though.
I love that the Mic 2 from the Pocket 3 automates the on-mic recording. That’s super slick.
Good to see how Dji is improving their mics. I did sell my Rode ones, got twice issues with the power on / off button, so they were not too reliable for my needs. What i would like to see is a set up with 4 mics. This would be a dream coming true. Don’t understand why Rode and DJI do not come out with that. Currently have to use Fulaim for bigger talks / Podcasts. Great review as usual, cheers from Germany.
Do their wireless mics do sets of four?
@@judnichols theoretically you can get to sets and use the other two with internal recording. But I also would like to have all in one. Right now I use a set from Fulaim which does the job but lack additional recording, and also the transmitters are huge.
yea it’d be dope if they could jam sync too. Right now the Tentacle Track-E can do it and sync with the BM Camera app but I’m hopeful for the Deity stereo recorder with phantom power to run booms and for stealth binaural setups.
@@mb-watchesI thought it was possible by connecting two receivers with a splitter to a camera. But I'm assuming that means you can't manipulate the 4 audio tracks independently, but rather, as two pairs
@@Gundampilot416 Problem there is that you have to deal also with two receivers, it could be a solution but best still would be, having really one receiver for 4 mics.
It's here! The Osmo Pocket 3 is a game changer for us and having the ability to now add a second mic without a receiver is so, so good.
Hi gene! Thanks for getting me into camera gear. I really appreciate the quality of your videos.
2:10 the wind protection goes flying
that's what I needed today. every single one of my youtube subs is reviewing the DJI MIC 2 this morning. LOL
Review embargo is off as it’s officially released, every single review is paid.
Love the smaller size of the DJI, but sound quality and the ability to keep your wind filters connected in the case (not to mention download on-mic audio when in the case) still make the rode pro the best choice. DJI's audio is too....tinny? IDK it's just not as robust.
love see frank ... he is a friend that always love new stuff but still use the old one if not broken
I was just saying that I miss Gene's videos and watched a couple from the vlog channel. then I switch to my fyp and then boom. New Potato Jet video.
I've been impressed with DJI getting into these mics, I just KNOW Rode is all in and will keep going so it tilts me a bit in this comparison for sure. $548 for the Osmo Action 4 AND the new MIC 2 is a great bundle...
Best wireless Mic so far. DJi really innovated this Mic 2 that Rode and Deity need to do with their own wireless mics. What I love about the Mic 2 is the 32-bit sound, bluetooth pairing to smartphones without using app, windscreen can be mounted onto the audio-in port and especially the Multi-Interface hot shoe.
The Mi hot shoe is a game changer for sure. No more do I need to plug a cable from Transmitter to audio port on the camera especially with the FX3 that has terrible buzzing sound with wireless mics. Rode doesn't have this feature and they really need to implement it because it makes a huge differences especially when you don't have to charge your Transmintter. The sound quality is a bit better on the Go-ii compare to Mic 2.
My only complaint about the Mic 2 is that they are small so battery life is shorter. I do hope DJi will make a PRO version of their future Wireless Mics where we can setup 4 receivers. Also make them a bit bigger for longer battery life.
Otherwise, go with the Mic 2 over Go-ii Pro because Rode needs to innovate and play catchup.
the quality difference between phone and receiver/action4 is that it is using pure Bluetooth to connect to the phone, with the action4/pocket3/DJI receiver it's actually transmitting the audio on a 2.4ghz signal not Bluetooth. Which is also why there was interference in congested areas, the 2.4ghz spectrum is busy.
always preferred the dji over rode in terms of size especially
the rode comes with two lavs which is a huge selling point. theyre nice lavs too
Excellent content! I was facinated by the section on synchronisation drift towards the end. Very interesting and informative!
I am so happy. I wondered when I could buy a second mic for my GF when we bought the POCKET 3.
Interesting thing is that the rode wireless pro has a much fuller bandwidth especially bottom end, giving a more radio-like sound than DJI. I really like DJI devices, but here it is clearly audible that the lower part of the band is weaker, and u mentioned not using low cut filter
After watching 10 different reviews from 10 different content, creators, and hearing 10 different audio quality comparison…. If I am being honest and unbiased, the road wireless pro, hands-down, has a better audio quality 🤷🏻♂️
It has longer battery life, more internal storage, you can transfer your audio with a USB-C cable connected to the case (DJI mics u have to plug them in individually even tho the case has usb-c), the Lav mics screw in so it can accidentally pull off on the Rode Pros….. but at the end of the day, I circle back to the main thing, the audio quality.. and my honest and unbiased opinion is that the road pro wins hands-down.
"its not secret, don't feel special" 😂😂😅 you could have just let him have a moment
I love this video. So right from the heart of life, from practice. Very enlightening. If I hadn't already bought the set, I would do it now at the latest.
Thanks for the time sync comparison. You set a high bar for mic reviews :)
I picked up some used Godox wireless mics that sound great. It might drop audio a bit more than i'd like and not have internal recording, but they do the trick for $50.
Glad I woke up at 5 am lol, what a nice casual vid great way to start of my day..😮
Close to a million subs! Great job Gene!
Sam's scream is like a GTA npc jumping a bridge/cliff. totally funny. great video
Every review I hear makes it clear to me that the Rode sounds better but the DJI has the screen facing you on a camera but the Rode cannot accidentally format your audio in the field. Therefore we went with the Rode. We have Sankens locked into the Rode and it’s a sweet setup. We had three different camera ops accidentally delete the DJI one files in the field so I can’t risk that.
You can't "accidently" delete the footage on the DJI Mics. You have to scroll through several menus and then swipe confirm, to format them. It takes a special kind of fool to "accidently" achieve that.
Great review, thanks! As to noise cancellation, I'd shoot with it off and add in post where you have more latitude in control. You an definitely hear the 'limiter' with in mic nc.
Kari, sam, pita, that deep voice guy the hotel rooms where awesome.... an that PJ guy was ok lol lol
I been waiting for this💯
thanks for showing us the part about the syncing after +4h - i didn't know about that 😯
2 hrs later and about 22 videos watched and finally someone does a mic sound distance test (even if it was for 10 seconds) @12:38
Oh man I was in the same convention center as the mighty Potato?! Such a shame I never saw you but it's always fun to see all the areas of CES that one couldn't visit during such a busy week!
PS these mics are sweet, but I think I'd skip the Noise Cancellation as it hollows out your voice almost a little too much? But the DJI to DJI connection is so clutch, so that's a W. Here at work the RODE PROs have been super clutch when the Tentacle Syncs are in use on other cameras!
damnnnn gene so close to 1M i hope you get there very soon
Great breakdown of the dji mics~ also you're so close to 1 million!!
Just bought it lets goooo!
Great review, thanks! Really not excited about the audio quality, it's not a shade against the Rode. Only case I can think where the voice isolation would suit me is livestreams, otherwise noise cancellation in Resolve works great. (and is adjustable)
great video guys... thank you. I would love for DJI to make the lavalier mic in white as well. Great sound. Saludos from Spain
Dude you're so close to 1 million subs!! Hell yeah. You've grown a ton recently! You're my favorite reviewer! #lovethePotato
Honestly either the Rode or the DJI would be dope to use!!!!
The absolute SCREAM into the mic did it for me 😂
What an amazing comparison that you come out with. Thank you so much for the insight. Just a curious question, how did you do the interview using the 3 mics? does one of the mic is recording on its own without the receiver?
Watching the Rode furry windshield blow away in the background made my day. Happens everytime. It's like they're alive and want to run away.
Rode mic sounds really great 👍🏾
So so close to One Million Subscribers! 💥💥👏🏻
That Lavalier Mike is fabulous
Thanks for the in-depth testing. This review is uniquely packed with useful content while being entertaining, too.
Been eyeing these and you have sold on getting them. This was a great video Gene!
Btw, the noise cancellation sounded super weird.
wish it has the locking jack
so close to a million!!!!
nice to meet you.
This is the hottest mic in days. I enjoyed the good reviews and the situation.
I think it's a very good microphone.
Happy New Year^^
Dude, so close to 1M subs, you have earnt it. 🙂
the Rode system seems to have more low-end! both are great tools honestly!
sam testing the mics was the best! LMAO!🤣🤣
Awesome review man!
Sams yell has had me in tears looking at the whole video lol
Come on, sub this man! He deserves his 1 million!
Why is the audio clipping at 1:46? Shouldn't 32bit float prevent that?
The dji mic 2 is incredible
Great video! Is there a way to connect 3 DJI Mic 2s to the Pocket 3 simultaneously? Or is 2 the max?
Once again. Awsome video. Love watching your content. Thanks jet!!
Really good to know the pocket 3 can receive 2 mics at the same time.
i had 2 sets of DJI mics. Had so send both in because in a year the output jack wasn't holding the cable in anymore. Hope they fixed that. (my average insertions per month:20)
You always have the best reviews! But, following you on UA-cam gets kinda expensive! 😂😂😂
Well done, great demos and entertaining 😊
I am writting my consolusion after a very tough comparsion of the 2 mics regarding sound quality!
DJI MIC 2 Firmware version: v04.02.01.13
Røde Mic 2 Firmware version: 1.2.8
1) Using Røde Lav II mic on both units (DJI Mic 2 , Røde Wireless Pro) :
-- Noise Cancellation off , No Low cut filter :
Simple! They both almost identical. You will never beleive it. You can't prefer one other the second. They might sound different if you compare them using 2 different LAVs which is not fair.
-- Noise Cancellation On (DJI MIC2) :
Røde Wins 100%.
2) NO LAV on both , RAW audio, No DeadCat wind shield. Both clipped equally on the top of my shirt:
Røde : Better sound quality! Way better than the DJI Mic 2. Of course it depends on your voice and how much is the difference for your voice, but in General from audio samples from others as well, I found the Røde sound quality is more pure and native and fuller
So, Finally: in case you will be using both with LAV, I think you are good to go with the one you prefer more.
- if you care about the nice design and the very handy touch screen and compact case, DJI Mic 2 is the winner.
- If you care about the noise reduction, then DJI is the clear winner.
- If you are going to be hybrid between LAV and without, then the clear winner is the Røde.
- If you are going to use it for street interviews, Røde is the winner again.
If you have any questions, Let me know! :)
I appreciate all the "noise canceling" options they offer, but I'd always rather record the raw audio to sort it out in post for safety
Agreed, I wish they allowed outputting the noise cancelling audio via 3.5mm, while storing raw on the storage.
Can you like test that to a concert tho? And see if that mic is good?
The voice isolation sound similar to the one in DaVinci Resolve but a bit more robotic if you do not talk directly into the dji mic.
Rode definitely sounds better. Way more full and also less harsh in treble.
one million subs is goin to be happen 👋
I sold my DJI Wireless Mic 1 and got the DJI Mic 2 but I've had to return it. I compared it with the Rode Wireless Pro and the Rode had noticeably better sound quality.
Love your style Gene
God dammit get this guy to 1million subs already...sheeeeesh
I have not seen a potato jet video in so long. time to catch up on a whole bunch
#1: Raw audio with 32Bit float, then use Izotope Rx in post if you have issues. #2: I'm admittedly an Apple pessimist, but it wouldn't surprise me if the bluetooth degradation is on Apple's side and probably because they want Payola/licensing for performance over bluetooth that matches Airpod/Beats
1 million lets goo baby
I've never been a fan of the noise isolation it sounds like everything is getting sucked in a blackhole except for your voice. But just when I was set on the rode wireless dji releases this. I think I still prefer the rode audio over this but it is nice that dji is doing a mic with 32 bit float.
The scream was awesome lol
1:33 Damn Potato you got got so good range. Ever considered doing voice over?
Nice video bro! So funny! Congratulations!
Loved watching this - now subscribed :)
In order to make the Mic 2 fully compatible with the Pocket 3, you need this system so that you can connect the receiver to the Pocket 3 USB-C port instead of using the direct connection. That connection collapses the internal mics on the optional wave file to mono, so you can't record stereo ambience to mix with your voice from the Mic 2. But it's an expensive fix for a problem which should never have been there in the first place.
Whoa, I definitely heard clipping when he screamed into both mics. I thought you didn't have to worry about clipping with 32-bit float? By the way, I searched for this exact test haha.
Maybe he forgot to treat it in post
I was at CES as well would have been awesome to run into you
Your so close to 1 mil subs haha
Great vid using them!
For iPhone, will there be a phone upgrade to allow using the native Camera app instead of a third-party? Or, is that the limitation of how Apple iOS works?
If you use the DJI receiver via lighting (or USB-C if you have a 15 pro) then you should be able to use the native camera app. I think you only have to swap to a 3rds party app if you use only Bluetooth between the iPhone and Transmitter (which you shouldn’t do anyways cause it sounds bad that way lol)
Wow, this is amazing
1 millón subscriber, congratulation bro , keep it up
I have to look into the manual, and see if you can change the functionality of any of the buttons.
Cool testing ❤
Aweosme video Gene! The new mics look and sound great, especially with the new features. One question I'd love to ask is, do you have any tips for recording more on-the-fly type videos as I tend to stutter a lot and say "um" even when I have a general idea of what I'm planning to say?
Great review 🎉
Is it me or does the audio from the DJi sound thin in comparison to the RODE?
It is thin compared to the RODE, in all reviews
Until next time. I will count the seconds. Until you upload again. I’m going to watch some OG. 🥔 jet ✈️
