    There was another firmware update on August 9 2024 and FINALLY it adjusted the EQ of the transmitter mic! I compared the sound before and after in an updated video: ua-cam.com/video/fuxHYBhHNAA/v-deo.html
    So now the sound quality of the Tx mic is no longer a big downside. I still stand by the other reasons I mentioned in this video as to why I think the Rode Wireless Pro is a better choice overall, but the firmware update is a nice improvement for any Mic 2 owners!

      Thanks for this demonstration and appraisal. You didn't say if the sound quality of the DJI Wireless 2 improved with the Sennheiser lavalier mic. Did it improve? Was it a significant difference?

    Other reviewers have turned off a filter that is on by default on the DJI mic and found the sound between DJI and Rode to be equal.

      I've verified the low cut filter was off during my testing, except for the sample of the low cut filter that I provided at 06:29. The sound of the built in mics is far from equal to the Rode Wireless Pro based on the units that I have.

    DJI sounds pretty good to me, especially in internal audio, though Rode is slightly better in audio (but much worse in usability, design, and settings). But why is there a hiss in the audio background during the indoor shooting with 2.4 GHz? Is that from the mic, the surroundings, or a problem with the settings?

    Hi all, I just wanted to comment here that I have installed the January 31, 2024 firmware update from DJI and tested out the internal recording and the wireless bluetooth to my iPhone again and I do not hear any significant improvement or difference in the audio quality vs. the samples in this video. The built-in mic still sounds muddy to me and the bluetooth sound quality when not connected to a DJI device is still below average. Perhaps the firmware improved the stability of the wireless transmission, but didn't seem to change the sound for the better.

      Regular BT uses the Hand-set profile which is the profile supported by (most) phones. The DJI Pocket and Action 4 supports the BT EDR mode (Enhanced Data Rate) which suggest more bits for the codec. Also for the DJI MIc2 the low cut filter is on by default, removing bass from the audio. Thus the MIc2 will sound much thinner than the Røde Pro.

    I sold the RØDE Wireless GO II because I dislike the on/off button. Takes some time to look for it when the muffler is attached and then it takes some time to power on/off. Then I got myself DJI Mic 2 because of the auto-record functionality, which I rely upon the most. It really helps especially when dealing with interviewees who don't know how to turn on a wireless mic.
    The DJI cable connector for the receiver to the camera is quite stiff! So, I got myself a soft RØDE cable to replace it 🙂

    Great vid, thanks for your thoughts. FYI and anyone interested, the bluetooth works great with the insta 360 Ace pro without the receiver or with pugged in!! And on both, you gotta get the gain stack right, those dslr preamps will crack you up otherwise. Oh and the rode video mic pro, v1, now 6 year in my kit, works great wirelessly with the transmitter connected, those 9V’s seem to preamp spot on for this setup. I boom and handhold, about 50m radius with the odd body drifting between, never a problem. But at the end of the day, are they really intended for pro use, i’m not so sure. Thanks. 👍

    Why would you not connect a lavalier mic to both of these, since that's what will give you the best audio quality? If you did that with both DJI and Rode, and assuming you used the same lavalier on both, the audio quality should be nearly identical, right? Other than minor differences, you'd mainly be comparing bluetooth & noise reduction vs extra recording time & data over USB. I have this nanotech black paint called Musou Black (google that) and I paint it over logos like what DJI has on the front so that issue would literally disappear. Which would you prefer assuming you were using the same lavalier or even a shotgun?

    • @alonuch1
      @alonuch1 9 місяців тому +2

      In this case, DJi will be much more expensive and the choice is much more obvious. Personally I agree with author that the sound of DJi is “moody” and I hear that in every review. Don’t get why people don’t her that. BTW, I am DJi lover for years, but not in this case.

    • @davidlevine7164
      @davidlevine7164 9 місяців тому +1

      @@alonuch1 If they're both using the same mic with 32-bit audio recording, what would account for the "moody" audio quality? I would love to hear a side-by-side test of the two with the same lavalier mic, 32-bit internal recording.

    • @alonuch1
      @alonuch1 9 місяців тому +1

      By “moody” I mean less high frequencies and the voice of speaker sounds not the same as they record in studio with professional mic. RODE sounds much much closer and similar to high quality podcast mics. It is not related to 32bit. When DJi used with high quality lavalier mic than it sounds as a RODE. Which points us to the same thing that you have to add additional 150-200$ to DJi and it makes it very expensive.

    • @darylsummer1424

      @davidlevine7164 better digital processing with better quality components. Rode is a professional audio manufacturer, and that's all they do. DJI makes great drones and cameras and I have most of them but you can't compare the sound and quality of these 2. Rode wins imo.

  • @adamofnotrades
    @adamofnotrades 7 місяців тому

    Cool review, but I think it slightly misses the mark. For folks doing videography, reliability and ease of use should be the priority when selecting any equipment. Basically, you should be asking yourself, “what piece of gear is not going to screw me over and will get the job done every time?” These minor differences in audio characteristics are easily addressed in post production EQ, compression, limiter, etc.

    • @semiprotech
      @semiprotech  7 місяців тому +3

      Fair, but this wouldn't change my personal assessment. DJI Mic 2 has good ease of use, but so does the Rode Wireless Pro. The W Pro has been very reliable for me, and I far prefer the sound plus the other features it has that the Mic 2 does not. I personally do not like to rely on post to make a microphone sound good because it can lead to sounding over-processed very easily. I'd rather have a mic with a more natural frequency response that doesn't require as much tinkering in post. But everyone is entitled to their opinion and preferences, and that is one reason watching multiple reviews from different channels is always a good idea.

    • @adamofnotrades
      @adamofnotrades 7 місяців тому

      @@semiprotech Totally. Makes sense. I just always see so many of my peers buying things that ultimately screw them over because they were getting too complicated or risky with their gear selection. All in some effort to chase a subjective quality that is often splitting hairs. Honestly, these 2 products seem quite comparable to my ears, so I would tend to go with DJI, but like you said, it’s all quite subjective.

    From 10:43, I can definitely hear the difference in sound between the DJI Mic 1 and Mic 2. The Mic 2 sounds more natural and comfortable, but I find it difficult to distinguish between the DJI Mic 2 and the Rode Wireless Pro in terms of audio quality. After hearing them more times, perhaps I perfer the DJI Mic 2. As you mentioned, sound preferences are subjective.

Back then we would either record on a Sony PCM 3348 1/2 tape with DA converter. Everything has changed from that point on. The DJI has Bluetooth and 2.4g the rode doesn't. If your miking up talent for a Major production your not using either of these mics. These are prosumer mics. The DJI system for me is better knowing that DJI is basically taking over this market. They make the ronin 4d professional drones. Professional gimbals. They bought hassleblad. Rode sounds good but most people can't tell. You Tube compression on top of that. I guarantee Rode will redesign that ugly box shape. DJI mic 2 has more flexibility, more features, ease of use. Fast charging. And it's cheaper. Because of that every big You Tuber is using DJI. Works with a phone, action camera, pocket 3. Even competitors action cameras. Can rode do that. No. I see You Tubers with 1 million subscribers using DJI and don't use rode anymore. They are even using hollyland lark m2. That should tell you they don't want the big ugly box. Nuff said.

    - **Phone Dependency:** Settings cannot be changed if the phone battery dies, due to app reliance.
    - **Heavier Design:** Heavier on clothing, prone to flopping.
    - **Poor Menu System:** Complicated and app-dependent for settings adjustments.
    - **Subpar Build Quality:** Case zippers and Type-C ports wear out quickly.
    - **Unreliable Gain Assist:** Can clip in loud environments, making it unpredictable.
    - **Enhanced Audio:** Artificially enhanced audio rather than neutral.
    - **Difficult Dock Removal:** Challenging to remove from the dock quickly, risking damage.
    - **Unreadable Meters:** Meters are difficult to read without getting very close.
    ### Overall Recommendation
    The DJI Mic system remains the more practical and reliable choice for professional audio recording, especially considering its lower noise floor, better build quality, independence from app reliance for changing settings, and the availability of cost-effective aftermarket battery replacement kits. This makes it more versatile and dependable in various recording situations, particularly in scenarios where immediate adjustments are necessary without the use of a smartphone.

      Do you work for DJI? I have both for different purposes but the Rode has much better sound, better build quality and is far superior post production.
