The Mic 2 is sold with the wireless receiver bundle also. Any wireless mic would need a receiver to work, but that's just me. The standalone Mic2 is sold for Pocket 3 users who want an extra mic to connect directly, or as a replacement in case you damage yours, and you don't have to buy a whole new set to replace it.
It doesn't need the receiver to work for some purposes. The point is that they sell the mic on its own and advertise that it's 32 bit capable. What they don't say is that you need additional hardware. I did the tests in this video without the receiver in use (it was un-paired from the mic). If the intention to sell the mic was strictly for Pocket 3 users or as a spare, they should disclose that you need a set with the receiver, or the Osmo Pocket 3 to get full use from it. Instead, it markets the low price point to get people who don't know better to buy the mic on its own. Go on reddit and you'll see angry people complaining about this. Point 4: When the DJI Mic 2 transmitter is connected to a smartphone via Bluetooth, intelligent noise cancelling is not available.
Point 5: When the DJI Mic 2 transmitter is connected to a smartphone via Bluetooth, internal recording is not available.
Point 5 means you won’t have 32 bit float.
Here’s my take for you, if you are keeping your levels within control, it’s all good. If you’re out and about, you won’t necessarily have great control over audio levels. Also, I believe Bluetooth quality is heavily degraded. I’d get the full version with the receiver and plug in the receiver directly to your iPhone (there’s adapter pieces that snap onto the receiver with USB-C and lightning). This way, it’s not Bluetooth, the quality will be much better and if you wanted to keep a video later, you can internally record with it and get that 32 bit audio (as long as it’s enabled in the receiver beforehand). Plus you’ll retain intelligent noise cancellation.
DJI makes great stuff and they seemed to be an awesome company. This is a serious miss for them.
@@TechMixr ‼Much appreciated! If that's the case I would have to pass. I was hoping for an elegant solution that wouldn't require adding weight to the selfie/tripod. I don't need noise cancelling, but rather just a wind muff on windy or biking days. I guess it's best not to over engineer things. Thank you for your insight!
No worries at all!
