WvW is so much fun I have no idea why I left it so long to get in there, get my Warclaw, and get playing. It's more fun than most other entire games. It can be exciting or relaxing, and it's more a test of brain power than gear.
I am new to the game and i wanted to try it out but have a problem with wireless connection and getting dc from time to time sometimes often, and dc in wvw losing all the progress and get dumped of the full map and wait for the queue to get dumped soon again. In many game modes GW2 has A REALLY POOR protection against disconects i can say WORST OF ALL mmos i been playing it is really pathetic for such an old game and makes me reconsider buying expansions which i was planning to unless i fix this issue which i really dont have in other games...

If you start out in WvW I'd highly recommend you start Zerging and join the voice chat - you don't have to talk, just listen, and nobody is going call you out for mistakes. Movement and coordinated attacks are the fundamentals in Zerg vs Zerg battle and without experience you will get blown up instantly if the enemy zerg get's near you. Do yourself a favor and listen to voice comms to get a feeling for how to move around and stay alive in a battle

WvW is 100% of the reason I've been playing GW2 on and off for a decade. Any MMO can tack on PvP but it feels like GW2's combat system was made for WvW and mixing small and large scale battles.
One thing I would have loved to know before engaging in wvw is to skill your wvw talent tree to "autoloot" first. Made this game mode way more enjoyable
I’m on Blackgate. We finish 2nd place to Maguuma every week. This has been going on for a very long time. Because we are the top tier, it never changes. We get a new 3rd server every week and they get destroyed and knocked back down a tier. It sucks and I wish there was a way to mix it up better. I love WvW overall. Just wish the enemy changed once and a while.
It doesn't matter. If what you say is true you would just curbstomp everyone else anyway. I don't want to be your "fresh meat" either. It's good that you and Maguuma have to deal with each other. Stop tryharding for a week and drop down. But that would mean people have to take a loss which I assume isn't really an option on such a server. Everything has pros and cons, that's what you get if you permanently play for maximum winning. Putting you against significantly worse servers would just end up incredibly shitty for your opponents so don't be egoistic. You can always switch to a lower rated server and get used to losing pretty regularly, haha. Or make an alt, maybe!
Really appreciate this video Vallun, I used to play Cyrodiil pvp in ESO for years, then swapped to GW2, but have never put any effort in to trying to learn how WvW works, although its always intrigued me if I'm honest. This video has made my mind up to give it a try now you have very comprehensively explained all the basics in a very clear and concise way. So I understand enough of the basics now to get going. I played eso as well and I feel like guild wars WVW is very similar to cyrodil pvp. 1vx’rs in cyrodil are like roamers in gw2 and you have your small scale and zergs. I feel like the mount movement in cyrodil is better but the character movement and gliding is more satisfying.
I just wish they'd include some Alterac Valley style event chains. They do it so well in PvE, including a couple in WvW would be really cool even if it's just on borderland maps.
WvW is the best. I was a former PVEr but left it because of all the crappy PVE collections. In WvW, I just play it and all the mats I need are just obtained passively without the headache.
The thing that i still dont get it its what should i be doing exactly to progress my self during wvv as a solo player, since i dont like zerging... I cant find a proper guide explaining whats the objectives for a solo roaming player
Personally, I would say generically skill-wise, WvW is actually harder than raiding. At least if you do more than the AFK camp capture farm, that is. You might be better than what you give yourself credit for! The problem with raids isn't so much about difficulty, it's rather about finding a group that allows people to be beginners. You have to actively hunt for raid trainings done by specific groups and organizations.
@@Nitidus im now on my way to 2nd set of wvw leggy armors already have wvw trinkets. Hehe. The fun thing with wvw, which also shocked me since i thought it would a wham bam than you mam for me, is that i can do wvw solo do the objectives or be part of a group and have some fun and bags. I have done almost all raids. Youre right finding a good group is difficult. With my timezone and my available free time just dont work to do raids a regular basis.

lol 😂 i’ve been playing hard with guildies for the last 4-5 months. when wvw rush came out we started wiping 50 squad tags al even tho we suspected them to be wvw guilds. turns out they were weak and poorly comp’d pve players trying to wvw. players need to spend more time with other players. lol too many wipes and it’s not fun for anyone the next day
Stop, you are not going to be competitive in WvW as a fresh 80 character. And saying WvW is easy to get into and the first thing you talk about is paid server transfers, is not a good start.
I just started gw2 about few weeks ago and started wvw right away. I checkd out lots of guides in youtube. Now i hitted my 110 rank in wvw and loving it. Also bought the expansions so I got few insta lvl 80 boosts also, but I also leveled up my revenant and elementalist in wvw. Gonna get that warbringer somepoint :)

Something to note; For rewards at 10:48 the armor pieces can only be obtained after getting them once from the Triumphant Armor reward track. The track gives exotic gear, but the merchant mentioned at this time lets you buy the ascended counter part, which are precursors for the legendary WvW Armor.
Thanks for the video! Got into WvW a couple of weeks ago and it's now my favourite game mode, and nice to hear from experienced players how to approach it, as I went in blind.
Absolutely love this gamemode! Typically a PvE guy, but have made some lifelong friends by just going the distance and engage with the wvw gamemode and community on my server. And between high intensity fights and casual objective capture/escort there is something for everyone. Something I would recommend for newcomers is to get a sense at what times their server is more or less active during the week. Fridays after reset typically offers high activity, but prominent commanders or guilds might be more active on other days.
Wow, how different experience from mine... i only saw jerks, shitheads and trolls when played. Totaly unhelpfull, idiotic community on my server imho i dropped this mode forever after 2 weeks. Also it is mostly about running or waiting.
This is great and all, but literally nothing in this video explained what I actually do in WvW. I spent an hour in it the other night and was completely lost. Had no idea you could WP to different maps, didn't know what anyone in chatting meant when they were calling out plays and asking for backup. Don't know where things are, how to get around quickly, how to build things, etc. This video was just go in have fun don't grief people. Like I want to actually do shit with my team, lol. I don't how anything works in there. And I think I know less now.
The problem mostly isn't your specs, the problem is the engine from 2012 which is been built upon again and again and it's starting to break down under all that weight by now.
I think I have a healthy hint of tribalism when it comes to my guild but when I see a dead enemy player that hasn't returned to spawn I'll do a bow emote
Great video. I wish they re-texture the maps in wvw cause the textures are starting to look old even by gw2 standards. New pve maps are really high quality, it would be great if wvw could also get same quality of textures and lighting.
@@Tevesh42No. The new maps yield low frame rates because of number of models, way more complex and bigger animations and overall more visual effects. Texture detail in itself on the other hand does not influence frame rate, it only determines VRAM usage. If you've got a VERY old GPU that only has like 2 GB of VRAM then correcting for such an upgrade is literally a matter of setting texture quality to a lower level in the settings menu and you're exactly back to normal. Don't be afraid of change just because you lack knowledge and education about certain things. That's a life lesson. Edit: By the way, "lagging" refers to networking and latency issues and doesn't have anything to do with graphics. A low frame rate would for example be called "stuttering."
Well explained. ^^ WvW is such good fun. Been addicted to it since my 1st visit there this summer. Getting the Warclaw seems most confusing for most of the new players there, based on chat questions about it, and it's not a quick answer to give in details on how to get it the smoothest and fastest, so have to usually tell new players to google a guide for it. Even i was when 1st time there "My mount where??" in chat and got told to get Warclaw.. thought i could use my raptor there also. :D So many Vendor NPC there in WvW home bases, that i remember myself also having hard time at start finding the right ones to get started. Alltho i wanted to check everything to see if anything with cool fashion or nice stuff also. :D When i started i used to be the typical wall ranger that pew pew until got pulled down into the enemy blob and killed in seconds.. now after months i have evolved into a mean Reaper, that when up in a wall i'm just there to stare menacingly, waiting for my chance to jump down and kill the stragglers who get left behind by their zerg. That's interesting. I've never once seen someone ask anything about the Warclaw in WvW chat. That being said, up until tonight I was playing on a very old server with a very small WvW population so new players pretty much don't exist on there. When I started getting into WvW originally I was literally the only one not running around in full legendary bling bling rank 10,000 Ultimate Dominator etc.
A greate intro to WvW. Im a casual player,only done story and pve before, just started some WvW for the first time, this helped answer a few questions I had, thank you. So far i love this game mode, never been a fan of pvp, but this is something completely different, So far its my new favourite game mode in GW2. I noticed you get spammed with ALOT of gift boxes during gameplay, thats new to me, but its cool. Thanks for the informative video.
I do realize this comment is already four months old, but in case any other new WvWers read this: Take the time to have a quick look at those "gift boxes", or more precisely the reward tracks they're coming from. They can help you greatly in PvE as well. Mostly in legendary crafting. → The main thing is Mystic Clovers, the Drizzlewood reward track for example gives you 14 (!!) overall. → Some legendaries require a Gift of Battle to craft which you can only get from the respective WvW reward track. → If you are working on the Aurora and Vision collections, all of their subparts need a skin each which you are supposed to get from the Mastery achievement of the related Living World story chapter. But you can instead complete the reward track for the map that corresponds to that story chapter - example: for LWS4, Chapter 6, "War Eternal", it's the Dragonfall reward track) - and you get a chest where you can choose that same skin, meaning you DON'T have to do the sometimes like 36 achievements anymore just to get that one Mastery achievement! → If you don't care about ever getting legendaries or if you've already finished all of those you can still look up the WvW reward tracks on Fast Farming where it tells you approximately how much each of them is worth if you sell everything. Since the numbers can vary greatly it's absolutely advised to check it out and choose the right ones.
@Vallun You presented the greatest question for a new player in wvw but didn't really answered it. How can one effeciently overcome the part where he gets immediately obliterated worse than a jungle boar? Obviously by playing n stuff. But wvw is so inefficient in overcoming the entry level skill barrier. There is so few of fights. And getting a fight against someone who is at least in proximity of my skill level doesn't even happen daily. I believe many would enjoy some newb level guide of how to ascend to at least a cannon fodder skill level from a jungle boar as I am not even the worst out there as sometimes I meet people that are just a jugnle boar to me.
if you want to join zerging: get to a public tag or class training with a meta battle build, theyre not necessarily bis but good enough. follow along and try to survive while sticking to the tag at first. if you can survive try to improve your role:support better, do more dmg, strip more boons, place ccs better. if you wanna do smallscale its probably good to find some experienced roamers that can teach you stuff and id say if you find an enemy that was slightly better than you ask them for duels (block them and whisper from your block list or add them to your group) try to change up how you approach the fight every time you loose and try to find ways to exploit mistakes theyre making. this could range from random dodging to overcommiting on bursts etc. this should over time improve your personal gameplay and makes you better in reacting to fights. wich fights should i take? how can i win, whats the weakspot of the build theyre playing? can i maybe try to take those 2 ppl? also try to learn the map. what objective is probably attacked by bigger groups, where can i find smaller action, how can i avoid certain groups etc. you will probably find yourself developing from getting slaughtered like a boar to getting decent success fighting ppl to maybe trying to find outnumbered fights for the thrill pretty fast
@@sarlanvili9688 A little late, but I'd like to add: - For zerg meta builds, use gw2mists, but also don't overthink your build. At the beginner skill level, it's like 10% build, 15% gear (try to get at least ascended trinkets if you have methods for that which you're comfortable with because it does make quite a difference) and 75% execution. Meaning if you have like one trait that's suboptimal, correcting that probably ends up in a 0.2% damage increase or something like that. If you found a guild, _always_ prioritize their versions, - If you don't want to play Zerg but also can't find any roamers who would agree to be your mentor - I can't either, unfortunately - try to go roam _around_ a zerg. Stay in the vicinity to be able to retreat and get support, also you might find a few 2v1s here and there to get comfortable. You will die in 1v1s. You will die for a long time. Almost all roamers you meet in WvW are veterans. If you're able to find another beginner or someone who's just there to do quick daily, you're lucky. Especially on EU, most roamers are very experienced compared to yourself. Prepare to die and take the L for a long time. - You can try sparring in the Guild Hall arena. Remember to set stats and skills from PvE to WvW, that feature got added very recently. It's okay to learn your class and get a feel for how people fight compared to computers, but the real world in WvW is way different. There is a lot more movement involved, decision making, terrain usage, knowledge of where you can port and stuff, and therefore... - ... accept that it's going to be a slow process and frustrating a lot of times. Neither PvP nor WvW have great ways to learn. Don't give up. Don't overextend. Don't exhaust yourself. If you get angry, leave and return the next day. Maybe don't play WvW at all for a week every few months. Or skip matchups against particularly toxic servers. Everything will still be there when you return with newfound energy. You don't always have to play either. Watch UA-cam videos or streams, find a creator who's really good at your class and just watch them go. Mix it up a little bit. Without pressuring yourself, the time will go by sooooo much faster.
This is the exact same question in every MMO regarding pvp, and the answer is the same: get good. I just came to GW2 after being a long time veteran pvper in ESO, and it's basically the same: practice, experience, lots of dying and frustration, but eventually you in fact get good. There's no other answer to this, but to keep pushing and learning.
I love when people begin to complain about noobs players, when you know that anet force people like me to play WvW (I don't like PvP) even if we really don't like it, just to get gifts of combat. There is no other way to get those gift, and it is needed for every leggy in the game, so, stop complaining against player playing bad WvW, complain to anet to force them to come into a game mode they don't like.
@@Vallun people on WvW when you are playing, complaining ont the /map canal... very often on my server, about people not playing seriously or with bad build... of course, they don't want to be there in the first place, they just want a gift of battle or the easiest ring leggy.
Thanks for the video, I've been playing GW2 on and off since it came out but I've never done any pvp. I started to craft a legendary item which needs me to finish a WVW reward track. I joined eternal battleground but was completely lost. Your video cleared up a lot all I'd figured out was stand in the camp to capture it. So I would just run to a camp capture it then leave map and go back to pve, later I'd check if camp was able to be capture again (looks like every 45 miins or so you can capture a point). Seems like if I use siege items I can capture more then just 1 camp so I might try that out later.

YES YES come to WVW and feed me bags. come get reaped :), I played wow for 13 years.. I hated Battlegrounds I hated PVP. ,, ! year as a reaper in GW2 and I am having soooooo much fun in WVW.. I do it a couple hours a night almost every night..
3:12 take my like, good sir. You are clearly both a gentleman and a scholar. I generally agree with your guide and think you do a great job covering stuff for new players. Only thing I sort of disagree with is your point about the rank. I mean, I agree there are sometimes garbage mithril/diamond players and often great lower rank players (sometimes on alts or sometimes spvp players new to the gamemode). But there are plenty of higher ranked players who are good at the game and just haven't found another other games that interest them. I still think GW2 has some of the better combat around so I still play it, though a lot less than I used to. I am a one trick pony too (staff ele tempest, run a very particular build), but I have enough experience that I am generally a very skillful player that punches above my weight (and is able to do stuff my build/class generally has no business doing), and I help those around me out a lot (pretty garbage 1v1 and in some smaller fights, ofc) I know you probably get what I mean. I concede that understanding all of the classes and various play styles really helps to appreciate the game at a deeper level, but there are some players who are "specialists" of sorts who are just experienced enough fighting other classes that they have an intuitive sense of what to do in fights (often learned through hard lessons). I admit I would understand so much better and be even better if I played multiple classes, but somebody who specializes also appreciates and knows certain things about their particular build(s) and playstyle(s) that only comes with time and tons of experience.
"RIP Australian players" soooooo true, don't even bother trying WvW in peak times most days, it's an exercise in pure frustration as skills often take a literal minute to cast. I've often been stuck dead on the ground unable to even waypoint for significant time.
That aust ping looks depressingly familiar. I only go into WvW because eventually I want to get legendaries, and PvP is out of the question with all these disconnections. Seems like it'd be fun on a good ping.

The only thing that makes me hate this game a bit is the lack of bare minimum of a colorblind mode. I can’t differentiate between foe and friend, as well as marks on the ground etc
@@rayhoodoo847 I play with the friendly names off, and use the alt key to momentarily see the friendly names if needed. I do this to eliminate visual clutter, but it also makes enemies very obvious.
What the hell is wrong with Australia? I'm American and playing on the NA server. My work though has me in Vietnam at times and my ping is no where near that. I think 200 to 230 at most. So AU is saying Vietnam is better than they are? WvW is fun, though mostly just running with a zerg it seems now. A struggle at first keeping up while waiting to unlock the Warclaw I thought. Still trying to figure out what class I enjoy most though. Ranger, Guardian, Necro, Rev or Thief....

Love the gamemode but is very hard to have fun, I'm good at pvp but every time I jump in wvw I just get killed in a blink of a eye, I tried many builds and many gear stats but i always get the same result, wvw is the wild west in pvp there's some limitations but in wvw is another story, is hard to enjoy your carácter bicose you have to chage your playstile and gear on each gamemode Wich don't have sense, wy you are good in pvp but you can't be good on wvw is very frustrating an very hard to enjoy the game
No offence, but if you think it doesn't make sense why PvP and WvW are so very different - and if you're not able to adjust - then you're not a good player. Which is totally fine, by the way. I'm just saying you're missing some very fundamental understanding of how this game works.
WVW is an entire game on itself, and many types of players flock in there just to have a good time, get some loot, or improve at the game. It's just so much fun once you understand it. I, personally met my partner in there, something I thought was a myth (meeting someone on an MMORPG)
With specs like daredevil for roaming and the terrible diversity for zerging with way too many factors for success... Now is not the time to get into WvWvW for this game, the state of PvP in this game I think is being oversold/hyped. Sadly WvWvW by nature will never be fair and some specs are just way too overtuned for too long. Newer players need to go into that place without thinking of it too much. My advice would be for a new player unless u want to play an overpowered build, if you are starting out play only when your realm is busy zerging and join in on that, do not try to play WvW in this game thinking it is balanced and fun if you are outnumbered looking for fair fights.

its not that there are prime spots for roaming, its that you need awareness using your camera to scan the area nonstop and see if there is a zerg nearby and keep a safe distance
@@Vallun Thankyou Vallun , been using the celestial tempest build on guildjen but trying some different utilities and reaper rune for chill on shouts with feel the burn 🔥 I think it’s working I won a 1v3 and a 2v4 today , baby steps lol
interesting insight on the game, with that being said,your 'girlfriend or other' has a few streams where 'she' throws siege on players. maybe you should include that conversation with 'her'
@darian_aliYou can justify anything with that logic, from abuse to doxxing to cheating. Because "it's am online PvP game" and whatever makes you win is fair game, getting upset about being targeted is your own problem. Saying one thing is totally fine and another is not is a completely arbitrary line drawn in the same. In the end it's a hostile action intended to bully someone and put them down. And there's a huge qualitative difference between doing this to a troll and doing this to a newbie who stepped out of base for the first time to get one shot by you. It's only in good fun if both parties consent. You can't make that decision for someone else. In general, this stuff creates an atmosphere of negativity and toxicity. That's undesirable for a game mode depending on people to stay. _Of course_ there are exceptions, like if it's a person or a guild you're feuding with for example. Or, as said above, if it's an ultra annoying troll you were able to finally shut down. Or if it's a Full Signet Cata during last Summer's balance patch. But in general, this isn't funny and completely unnecessary. It just makes you look like you need to compensate for something... 🍆 I've never had a siege thrown onto me. I've never done it to anyone. The WvW guild I was organized in outlawed doing it as well. Just like they prohibited jumping on single players in the 1v1 area when we were passing there as a zerg. I think that's how it should be and everything else simply makes the game mode worse. But the way you're talking makes me think you're on NA, so there's probably no sense in appealing to basic human decency. ;)
The content is pretty static (and mostly player-driven), and meta builds change at about the same rate as they would in PvE, as according to balance patches (not that you even need to necessarily run a hot meta build to succeed). If you've been away for a while, you can usually just check a build website quickly for roaming or zerging options and hop in. Since the gear in GW2 has a pretty set power level and horizontal progression, often the gear you had prior will be just fine, but even if you needed totally different stat types, the new exotics vendor gets you set up to start out for basically pennies.
Unless your spec got fundamentally changed through a balance patch, builds don't have that big of an influence. If you won before and now you die that's 90% on you having forgotten how to play. Two days ago I killed a Celestial Herald who got to freely initiate on me on a Core S/D Thief build from 2015 despite Deadly Arts sucking nowadays. The build is from '15, but that's certainly not the last time I played which is what makes the difference.
@@Dark_Wizard_of_Mu I might do just that, i play spvp a lot so roaming would be my thing, but i don't wanna mess up my current pve builds. I'll have to wait until i can purchase more templates for more builds tho :c
0:50 - ppl are there to fight(for the most part) wrong! Ppl are there to win. And if they cant win, they run away. Hugging portals and walls. But nobody wants to have real fights anymore. Cause the balance is SHIT. And the skill gap between serious veteran players and casual /newbies is MASSIVE! it's just 1 big brawl fest these days. With out any real good fights. Like in OG wvw.

@OP same, I played off and on for 10 years, and finally tried it in earnest 2 months ago. I play it more than PvE now. Really loving it

If you start out in WvW I'd highly recommend you start Zerging and join the voice chat - you don't have to talk, just listen, and nobody is going call you out for mistakes. Movement and coordinated attacks are the fundamentals in Zerg vs Zerg battle and without experience you will get blown up instantly if the enemy zerg get's near you. Do yourself a favor and listen to voice comms to get a feeling for how to move around and stay alive in a battle

WvW is 100% of the reason I've been playing GW2 on and off for a decade. Any MMO can tack on PvP but it feels like GW2's combat system was made for WvW and mixing small and large scale battles.
One thing I would have loved to know before engaging in wvw is to skill your wvw talent tree to "autoloot" first. Made this game mode way more enjoyable
I’m on Blackgate. We finish 2nd place to Maguuma every week. This has been going on for a very long time. Because we are the top tier, it never changes. We get a new 3rd server every week and they get destroyed and knocked back down a tier.
It sucks and I wish there was a way to mix it up better.

It doesn't matter. If what you say is true you would just curbstomp everyone else anyway. I don't want to be your "fresh meat" either. It's good that you and Maguuma have to deal with each other. Stop tryharding for a week and drop down. But that would mean people have to take a loss which I assume isn't really an option on such a server. Everything has pros and cons, that's what you get if you permanently play for maximum winning. Putting you against significantly worse servers would just end up incredibly shitty for your opponents so don't be egoistic.
You can always switch to a lower rated server and get used to losing pretty regularly, haha. Or make an alt, maybe!
Really appreciate this video Vallun, I used to play Cyrodiil pvp in ESO for years, then swapped to GW2, but have never put any effort in to trying to learn how WvW works, although its always intrigued me if I'm honest. I played eso as well and I feel like guild wars WVW is very similar to cyrodil pvp. 1vx’rs in cyrodil are like roamers in gw2 and you have your small scale and zergs. I feel like the mount movement in cyrodil is better but the character movement and gliding is more satisfying.

I came from WOW and always loved battlegrounds. WvW is the ultimate never ending battleground.
I just wish they'd include some Alterac Valley style event chains. They do it so well in PvE, including a couple in WvW would be really cool even if it's just on borderland maps.
WvW is the best. I was a former PVEr but left it because of all the crappy PVE collections. In WvW, I just play it and all the mats I need are just obtained passively without the headache.

I just play wvw because of leggy armors. Raids and pvp armors is just too hard for me. Im on my fifth piece now.
Personally, I would say generically skill-wise, WvW is actually harder than raiding. At least if you do more than the AFK camp capture farm, that is. You might be better than what you give yourself credit for! The problem with raids isn't so much about difficulty, it's rather about finding a group that allows people to be beginners. You have to actively hunt for raid trainings done by specific groups and organizations.

The fun thing with wvw, which also shocked me since i thought it would a wham bam than you mam for me, is that i can do wvw solo do the objectives or be part of a group and have some fun and bags.
I have done almost all raids. Youre right finding a good group is difficult. With my timezone and my available free time just dont work to do raids a regular basis.

it's because wvw has more freedom on build crafting so most roamers get creative and make a build that works for them

Stop, you are not going to be competitive in WvW as a fresh 80 character. And saying WvW is easy to get into and the first thing you talk about is paid server transfers, is not a good start.

I just started gw2 about few weeks ago and started wvw right away. I checkd out lots of guides in youtube. Now i hitted my 110 rank in wvw and loving it. Also bought the expansions so I got few insta lvl 80 boosts also, but I also leveled up my revenant and elementalist in wvw. Gonna get that warbringer somepoint :)

Something to note;
For rewards at 10:48 the armor pieces can only be obtained after getting them once from the Triumphant Armor reward track. The track gives exotic gear, but the merchant mentioned at this time lets you buy the ascended counter part, which are precursors for the legendary WvW Armor.

Thanks for the video! Got into WvW a couple of weeks ago and it's now my favourite game mode, and nice to hear from experienced players how to approach it, as I went in blind.
Absolutely love this gamemode! Typically a PvE guy, but have made some lifelong friends by just going the distance and engage with the wvw gamemode and community on my server. And between high intensity fights and casual objective capture/escort there is something for everyone.
Something I would recommend for newcomers is to get a sense at what times their server is more or less active during the week. Fridays after reset typically offers high activity, but prominent commanders or guilds might be more active on other days.
Wow, how different experience from mine... i only saw jerks, shitheads and trolls when played. Totaly unhelpfull, idiotic community on my server imho i dropped this mode forever after 2 weeks. Also it is mostly about running or waiting.

This is great and all, but literally nothing in this video explained what I actually do in WvW. I spent an hour in it the other night and was completely lost. Had no idea you could WP to different maps, didn't know what anyone in chatting meant when they were calling out plays and asking for backup. Don't know where things are, how to get around quickly, how to build things, etc. This video was just go in have fun don't grief people. Like I want to actually do shit with my team, lol. I don't how anything works in there. And I think I know less now.

Wvw needs an update but I still have fun roaming and messing around! Always something to grind in gw2 but you can take huge breaks and not feel bad.

The problem mostly isn't your specs, the problem is the engine from 2012 which is been built upon again and again and it's starting to break down under all that weight by now.

@@Tevesh42No. The new maps yield low frame rates because of number of models, way more complex and bigger animations and overall more visual effects. Texture detail in itself on the other hand does not influence frame rate, it only determines VRAM usage. If you've got a VERY old GPU that only has like 2 GB of VRAM then correcting for such an upgrade is literally a matter of setting texture quality to a lower level in the settings menu and you're exactly back to normal.
Don't be afraid of change just because you lack knowledge and education about certain things. That's a life lesson.
Edit: By the way, "lagging" refers to networking and latency issues and doesn't have anything to do with graphics. A low frame rate would for example be called "stuttering."

Well explained. ^^ WvW is such good fun. Been addicted to it since my 1st visit there this summer. Getting the Warclaw seems most confusing for most of the new players there, based on chat questions about it, and it's not a quick answer to give in details on how to get it the smoothest and fastest, so have to usually tell new players to google a guide for it. Even i was when 1st time there "My mount where??" in chat and got told to get Warclaw.. thought i could use my raptor there also. :D
So many Vendor NPC there in WvW home bases, that i remember myself also having hard time at start finding the right ones to get started. Alltho i wanted to check everything to see if anything with cool fashion or nice stuff also. :D
When i started i used to be the typical wall ranger that pew pew until got pulled down into the enemy blob and killed in seconds.. now after months i have evolved into a mean Reaper, that when up in a wall i'm just there to stare menacingly, waiting for my chance to jump down and kill the stragglers who get left behind by their zerg.

That's interesting. I've never once seen someone ask anything about the Warclaw in WvW chat. That being said, up until tonight I was playing on a very old server with a very small WvW population so new players pretty much don't exist on there. When I started getting into WvW originally I was literally the only one not running around in full legendary bling bling rank 10,000 Ultimate Dominator etc.

A greate intro to WvW. Im a casual player,only done story and pve before, just started some WvW for the first time, this helped answer a few questions I had, thank you. So far i love this game mode, never been a fan of pvp, but this is something completely different, So far its my new favourite game mode in GW2. I noticed you get spammed with ALOT of gift boxes during gameplay, thats new to me, but its cool. Thanks for the informative video.
I do realize this comment is already four months old, but in case any other new WvWers read this:
Take the time to have a quick look at those "gift boxes", or more precisely the reward tracks they're coming from. They can help you greatly in PvE as well. Mostly in legendary crafting.
→ The main thing is Mystic Clovers, the Drizzlewood reward track for example gives you 14 (!!) overall.
→ Some legendaries require a Gift of Battle to craft which you can only get from the respective WvW reward track.
→ If you are working on the Aurora and Vision collections, all of their subparts need a skin each which you are supposed to get from the Mastery achievement of the related Living World story chapter. But you can instead complete the reward track for the map that corresponds to that story chapter - example: for LWS4, Chapter 6, "War Eternal", it's the Dragonfall reward track) - and you get a chest where you can choose that same skin, meaning you DON'T have to do the sometimes like 36 achievements anymore just to get that one Mastery achievement!
→ If you don't care about ever getting legendaries or if you've already finished all of those you can still look up the WvW reward tracks on Fast Farming where it tells you approximately how much each of them is worth if you sell everything. Since the numbers can vary greatly it's absolutely advised to check it out and choose the right ones.

@Vallun You presented the greatest question for a new player in wvw but didn't really answered it. How can one effeciently overcome the part where he gets immediately obliterated worse than a jungle boar? Obviously by playing n stuff. But wvw is so inefficient in overcoming the entry level skill barrier. There is so few of fights. And getting a fight against someone who is at least in proximity of my skill level doesn't even happen daily. I believe many would enjoy some newb level guide of how to ascend to at least a cannon fodder skill level from a jungle boar as I am not even the worst out there as sometimes I meet people that are just a jugnle boar to me.
Grab a WvW build from GuildJen and join a commander in a WvW map. Just start playing
my other guides are there for that, check the description
if you want to join zerging: get to a public tag or class training with a meta battle build, theyre not necessarily bis but good enough. follow along and try to survive while sticking to the tag at first. if you can survive try to improve your role:support better, do more dmg, strip more boons, place ccs better.
if you wanna do smallscale its probably good to find some experienced roamers that can teach you stuff and id say if you find an enemy that was slightly better than you ask them for duels (block them and whisper from your block list or add them to your group) try to change up how you approach the fight every time you loose and try to find ways to exploit mistakes theyre making. this could range from random dodging to overcommiting on bursts etc. this should over time improve your personal gameplay and makes you better in reacting to fights. wich fights should i take? how can i win, whats the weakspot of the build theyre playing? can i maybe try to take those 2 ppl? also try to learn the map. what objective is probably attacked by bigger groups, where can i find smaller action, how can i avoid certain groups etc. you will probably find yourself developing from getting slaughtered like a boar to getting decent success fighting ppl to maybe trying to find outnumbered fights for the thrill pretty fast
@@sarlanvili9688 A little late, but I'd like to add:
- For zerg meta builds, use gw2mists, but also don't overthink your build. At the beginner skill level, it's like 10% build, 15% gear (try to get at least ascended trinkets if you have methods for that which you're comfortable with because it does make quite a difference) and 75% execution. Meaning if you have like one trait that's suboptimal, correcting that probably ends up in a 0.2% damage increase or something like that. If you found a guild, _always_ prioritize their versions,
- If you don't want to play Zerg but also can't find any roamers who would agree to be your mentor - I can't either, unfortunately - try to go roam _around_ a zerg. Stay in the vicinity to be able to retreat and get support, also you might find a few 2v1s here and there to get comfortable. You will die in 1v1s. You will die for a long time. Almost all roamers you meet in WvW are veterans. If you're able to find another beginner or someone who's just there to do quick daily, you're lucky. Especially on EU, most roamers are very experienced compared to yourself. Prepare to die and take the L for a long time.
- You can try sparring in the Guild Hall arena. Remember to set stats and skills from PvE to WvW, that feature got added very recently. It's okay to learn your class and get a feel for how people fight compared to computers, but the real world in WvW is way different. There is a lot more movement involved, decision making, terrain usage, knowledge of where you can port and stuff, and therefore...
- ... accept that it's going to be a slow process and frustrating a lot of times. Neither PvP nor WvW have great ways to learn. Don't give up. Don't overextend. Don't exhaust yourself. If you get angry, leave and return the next day. Maybe don't play WvW at all for a week every few months. Or skip matchups against particularly toxic servers. Everything will still be there when you return with newfound energy. You don't always have to play either. Watch UA-cam videos or streams, find a creator who's really good at your class and just watch them go. Mix it up a little bit. Without pressuring yourself, the time will go by sooooo much faster.
This is the exact same question in every MMO regarding pvp, and the answer is the same: get good.
I just came to GW2 after being a long time veteran pvper in ESO, and it's basically the same: practice, experience, lots of dying and frustration, but eventually you in fact get good.
There's no other answer to this, but to keep pushing and learning.

I love when people begin to complain about noobs players, when you know that anet force people like me to play WvW (I don't like PvP) even if we really don't like it, just to get gifts of combat. There is no other way to get those gift, and it is needed for every leggy in the game, so, stop complaining against player playing bad WvW, complain to anet to force them to come into a game mode they don't like.

Thanks for the video, I've been playing GW2 on and off since it came out but I've never done any pvp. I started to craft a legendary item which needs me to finish a WVW reward track. I joined eternal battleground but was completely lost. Your video cleared up a lot all I'd figured out was stand in the camp to capture it. So I would just run to a camp capture it then leave map and go back to pve, later I'd check if camp was able to be capture again (looks like every 45 miins or so you can capture a point). Seems like if I use siege items I can capture more then just 1 camp so I might try that out later.

I generally agree with your guide and think you do a great job covering stuff for new players. Only thing I sort of disagree with is your point about the rank. I mean, I agree there are sometimes garbage mithril/diamond players and often great lower rank players (sometimes on alts or sometimes spvp players new to the gamemode). But there are plenty of higher ranked players who are good at the game and just haven't found another other games that interest them.
I still think GW2 has some of the better combat around so I still play it, though a lot less than I used to. I am a one trick pony too (staff ele tempest, run a very particular build), but I have enough experience that I am generally a very skillful player that punches above my weight (and is able to do stuff my build/class generally has no business doing), and I help those around me out a lot (pretty garbage 1v1 and in some smaller fights, ofc)
I know you probably get what I mean. I concede that understanding all of the classes and various play styles really helps to appreciate the game at a deeper level, but there are some players who are "specialists" of sorts who are just experienced enough fighting other classes that they have an intuitive sense of what to do in fights (often learned through hard lessons). I admit I would understand so much better and be even better if I played multiple classes, but somebody who specializes also appreciates and knows certain things about their particular build(s) and playstyle(s) that only comes with time and tons of experience.
"RIP Australian players" soooooo true, don't even bother trying WvW in peak times most days, it's an exercise in pure frustration as skills often take a literal minute to cast. I've often been stuck dead on the ground unable to even waypoint for significant time.
That aust ping looks depressingly familiar. I only go into WvW because eventually I want to get legendaries, and PvP is out of the question with all these disconnections. Seems like it'd be fun on a good ping.

The only thing that makes me hate this game a bit is the lack of bare minimum of a colorblind mode. I can’t differentiate between foe and friend, as well as marks on the ground etc
the simple nameplates option shows a colored symbol for enemies and allies, so you get a circle for allies and a triangle for enemies

@@rayhoodoo847 I play with the friendly names off, and use the alt key to momentarily see the friendly names if needed. I do this to eliminate visual clutter, but it also makes enemies very obvious.

What the hell is wrong with Australia? I'm American and playing on the NA server. My work though has me in Vietnam at times and my ping is no where near that. I think 200 to 230 at most. So AU is saying Vietnam is better than they are?
WvW is fun, though mostly just running with a zerg it seems now. A struggle at first keeping up while waiting to unlock the Warclaw I thought. Still trying to figure out what class I enjoy most though. Ranger, Guardian, Necro, Rev or Thief....

Love the gamemode but is very hard to have fun, I'm good at pvp but every time I jump in wvw I just get killed in a blink of a eye, I tried many builds and many gear stats but i always get the same result, wvw is the wild west in pvp there's some limitations but in wvw is another story, is hard to enjoy your carácter bicose you have to chage your playstile and gear on each gamemode

With specs like daredevil for roaming and the terrible diversity for zerging with way too many factors for success... Now is not the time to get into WvWvW for this game, the state of PvP in this game I think is being oversold/hyped. Sadly WvWvW by nature will never be fair and some specs are just way too overtuned for too long. Newer players need to go into that place without thinking of it too much. My advice would be for a new player unless u want to play an overpowered build, if you are starting out play only when your realm is busy zerging and join in on that, do not try to play WvW in this game thinking it is balanced and fun if you are outnumbered looking for fair fights.

its not that there are prime spots for roaming, its that you need awareness using your camera to scan the area nonstop and see if there is a zerg nearby and keep a safe distance

@darian_aliYou can justify anything with that logic, from abuse to doxxing to cheating. Because "it's am online PvP game" and whatever makes you win is fair game, getting upset about being targeted is your own problem. Saying one thing is totally fine and another is not is a completely arbitrary line drawn in the same. In the end it's a hostile action intended to bully someone and put them down. And there's a huge qualitative difference between doing this to a troll and doing this to a newbie who stepped out of base for the first time to get one shot by you. It's only in good fun if both parties consent. You can't make that decision for someone else.
In general, this stuff creates an atmosphere of negativity and toxicity. That's undesirable for a game mode depending on people to stay. _Of course_ there are exceptions, like if it's a person or a guild you're feuding with for example. Or, as said above, if it's an ultra annoying troll you were able to finally shut down. Or if it's a Full Signet Cata during last Summer's balance patch. But in general, this isn't funny and completely unnecessary. It just makes you look like you need to compensate for something... 🍆
I've never had a siege thrown onto me. I've never done it to anyone. The WvW guild I was organized in outlawed doing it as well. Just like they prohibited jumping on single players in the 1v1 area when we were passing there as a zerg. I think that's how it should be and everything else simply makes the game mode worse.
But the way you're talking makes me think you're on NA, so there's probably no sense in appealing to basic human decency. ;)
I feel if you leave wvw alone for any amount of time you fall behind a lot bc you aren't bleeding edge on builds and content
The content is pretty static (and mostly player-driven), and meta builds change at about the same rate as they would in PvE, as according to balance patches (not that you even need to necessarily run a hot meta build to succeed). If you've been away for a while, you can usually just check a build website quickly for roaming or zerging options and hop in. Since the gear in GW2 has a pretty set power level and horizontal progression, often the gear you had prior will be just fine, but even if you needed totally different stat types, the new exotics vendor gets you set up to start out for basically pennies.
Unless your spec got fundamentally changed through a balance patch, builds don't have that big of an influence. If you won before and now you die that's 90% on you having forgotten how to play. Two days ago I killed a Celestial Herald who got to freely initiate on me on a Core S/D Thief build from 2015 despite Deadly Arts sucking nowadays. The build is from '15, but that's certainly not the last time I played which is what makes the difference.

I am like you 2 yrs ago I just jumped in there regardless of what happened I searched for solo roaming builds that can solo a camp.
@@Dark_Wizard_of_Mu I might do just that, i play spvp a lot so roaming would be my thing, but i don't wanna mess up my current pve builds. I'll have to wait until i can purchase more templates for more builds tho :c

0:50 - ppl are there to fight(for the most part) wrong! Ppl are there to win. And if they cant win, they run away. Hugging portals and walls. But nobody wants to have real fights anymore. Cause the balance is SHIT. And the skill gap between serious veteran players and casual /newbies is MASSIVE! it's just 1 big brawl fest these days. With out any real good fights. Like in OG wvw.
