I'm a new player and have been following the wiki the past few days. I'm almost done but have put many hours into it this week. Let me say for other new players it's definitely a grind to get the Skyscale even with this Soto method. There are a lot of steps , resources , traveling all over Tyria and time gates. @@blackyvertigo it's rewarding cause you have to put some effort into it and it does make the older maps incredibly easy to complete compared to other mounts. But hey you do it once and it's good to use for all your characters.
@@blackyvertigo I mean if ppl really want it it took me 4-5 days of grinding . So a couple weeks at most with normal work on the expansion. It's an MMOrpg , there is always some level of work for anything. Plus the only real" time gate" was the provision tokens cause it's daily per vendor but there are so many vendors you can get the 29 tokens in 2days easy
Yeah, i’d say it took me about 4-5 days of semi grinding. It’s definitely worth it though. After seeing videos in the past of the old way to obtain it, I just gave up even trying. Glad they made it easier.
Skyscale of Life also works on NPCs, I personally did both at the bottom right of crystal oasis at the Zephyrite Village. The NPCs there die like flies and if you happen to have a "kill 100 forged" weekly you can also do that on the side
Another small tip i didnt see mentioned, the skyscale nests do respawn after an indeterminate amount of time. They dont seem to reset at daily reset, but possibly daily from the last time you visted them. I got my egg from a couple of easy to check ones that were along my farming route after a couple days. Just an alternative if you arent in a hurry and dont want to search them all out.
If you happen to have an abundance of charged quartz, the provisions vendor in Rata Sum that sells provisioner tokens for charged quartz without a daily limit.
This is why I haven't gone back to Guild Wars 2. I can't see myself playing without getting these mounts since they add so much to the game. but I refuse to do the song and dance over multiple days and all this busy work. I would have much preferred a straightforward quest chain with a story to get the mounts, or even buying the collection items with gems or something.
Well, with this past week you are in a bit of luck. Previously there were effectively two classes of mounts. First, the ones that come through normal progression like the Raptor, Springer, Skimmer, and Jackal in Path of Fire. These provide some useful mobility, but generally have specific use cases that you switch around to use. Then you had your collection mounts that have mobility advantages over those. This included the Skyscale and Griffon. Less straightforward and more of a collection extravaganza. Well, with Janthir Wilds that came out last week, they took the Warclaw, a mount previously only used in WvW, and you are given it as part of the first story mission (Secrets of the Obscure kind of does this with the Skyscale, but locks it to only using it in the expansion, needing to follow this video to use it elsewhere. The Warclaw in this expansion is available everywhere once you unlock it the story). On top of that, the masteries to upgrade the Warclaw are very straightforward, and once you complete those masteries it easily becomes one of the most useful mounts in the game for moving around (these eventually allow you to negate fall damage while riding, do 4+ jumps that can provide you with either height or forward momentum, and improved endurance regen that allow you to use the jump and dash more times and more frequently) , providing good speed as well as vertical mobility.
For those worrying about the provisioner tokens the faction provisioner vendor at the wizards tower sells them for things like research notes.. at no cooldown.. and the 5 vendors in amnytas (one at each travel point) sell 5 per item you can buy for gold off of the AH. Hope this helps.
FYI: You don't unlock Skyscale mastery track (the one from LW4) if you get skyscale on SoTO. You will need to do all the achiev from LW4 to get Rift Repair (that's needed to get Vision)
@@Lanzetsu Once you unlocked Skyscale in SotO, you can use it anywhere and on any of your alternate characters. lucasoliveira-zq1dk is talking about the Mastery skill used for the Reality Rift minigame (if you want to do it).
Yea, you still need to complete the entire LW4 collection chain if you want to unlock the LW4 masteries... However I find those MUCH easier to do if you already have a skyscale, LOL
It blows my mind that this is considered the short option. I spent more time just looking for an egg, (I still haven't found) than I did for the entirety of the Gryphon mount. I'm burnt out already,.. going to have to do this in short 2 hour sessions.
I remember when Muk's jade mech killed his 1000th devourer and he was so heartbroken. I'm wondering what Muk's reaction would have been on the "Kill devourers" step if he was still at 999 devourers.
I appreciate this information. I personally didn't think it was too fast. Since it's such a long task anyway, I mostly just kept the video book marked and jumped around in it to whatever I felt like doing. Anyway, thank you for compiling all this.
in wizards tower, rend scorchmaul NPC, sell provisioners tokens for 300 research notes for 1, and it has no daily cap to it, can buy all at once, if you have the research notes lol, easier to get notes than any of the other stuff you need
For me the most time consuming (and gold consuming) was getting all of the provisioner tokens. As I’m fairly new I had none of them and it took a while to get them all.
I am on the same boat, everything else is a piece of cake but the Provisioner Tokens are pulling me down, I will simply wait and get it done some day lol
@@Lanzetsu You can buy an unlimited number of tokens for research notes. 300 research notes for each, which costs roughly between 3g-4g if you buy correct items from TP and salvage them with the research kit. So you can spend ~100g and have it without the time gate.
Very helpful as usual. Thank you. You can also get the Charged Quartz Crystal from the Quartz Crystal Formation in your home instance but the chance isn't all that high. There's also some containers that can have them.
Good guide mukluk. Getting skyscale in soto is so easy. For killing 100 enemies in the camp, there is a spot where ~15 spawn, so you can get that skyscale infusion done really quickly. Only took me 5-8 minutes
As someone who painstakingly unlocked the griffon only for them to drop an EVEN more annoying mount that flies better to come out……. I felt robbed of my efforts. Especially considering how even the easy method feels like griffon lite
@@TheMattdunkum What do you mean by "flies better"??? Griffon is much faster and it's more fun. And it's best to have both so you can launch yourself with skyscale and switch to griffon mid air
2:06 Is "Rising Spirits" necessary to ultimately secure the Skyscale? or is this just something that will help you but not required? That's 24 Mastery Points on top of having to do the other things to acquire the Skyscale!? A: You need "Rising Spirits" to ultimately obtain the Skyscale via this method. But it's one of the last things you can accomplish. i suppose this is still easier than the LWS4 version as with that you have to have completed the entire LWS4 (seemingly on a single character) and your not specifically told but you will need to have acquired all eight MP's in the Domainn of Vabbi and know that when your done with Gorrik in Kralk land you need to meet him in the Sun's Refuge (thankfully accessable via the Sunspear thing) in the room before the firepit. And then you get to do "Saving Skyscales" which your first stop you will want to make is the Domain of Vabbi. And for those reading my comment, thank you, if you see the "Grand Djin" event symbol but no NPC's, a player who has all 8 MP's needs to be there and participate in taking down ALL the enemy djin's there. If any respawn you have to kill those. Then hope no one actually activates the "Grand Djin" event because you need to talk to all four of them. Thank you for the info about the djinn's, but it would had been nice to know you had to activate each egg and where to go to activate them. The priestess in divinity's reach is the NPC with the speed buff icon over her head at the entrance, aside from that the other places you have to visit to activate each egg is; Dragonfall, Brisban wildlands, at the south end of Lorner's Pass, Frostgorge Sound, The Grove, And Domain of Vabbi at the south western HP. Other than the Djinn's i think that's all of them. That moment when you realize, it's confusing to know whether your doing the thing for the LWS4 version or the SoTo version...
Great video dude, thanks! Just getting back into the game again after not playing since pre path of fire! This looks like it's gonna take a while but i've just spent gems on a skyscale skin which I can't use so there's my motivation I guess hahaha
I find this sequence of tasks necessary to conquer this mount completely insane. It would be much better to earn it through a sequence of quests, linked together in a story, which once completed would release the mount.
The old way was more finicky, but it had a story, and you got to play with a baby skyscale. I hoped they keep that and cut the resource costs, but here we are, hatcheries and trainings would fit the story and maps seamlessly and we got none :(
Yeah, absolutely, stuff like this needs to be tied to the main story. WoW did it far better by giving you the mount right away, and then you are free to upgrade it to 100% max talents in the first hour of having it... After that, you get to USE THE MECHANICS! In guild wars 2, it's like you have to spend ages working a real job just so you can get the game mechanics. It's nothing beyond a glorified grind. Truly hard grinds are always things that include clearing the absolute hardest content in the game. Running around like a headless chicken isn't exactly hard, nor is outright timegating, but it sure is annoying.
so basically skip 50% of the headache for gettin the mounts that we had to go through before soto...now that i look back at it its a damn long investment for a mount but its worth it got mine the GOOD OL way and named him Balrog i love mah boi
If the growing pains locations Muk mentioned don't work for you, or you don't have map completion in those areas, below are some alternatives. Just to add one, The lake next to Beetletun in Queensdale has a pipe coming out of it that's full of oozes. Just go into the pipe and odds are you'll have what you need by the time you come out the other end...
- You can buy the tokens all at once for ascended recources (lump of mithrilium etc) at the vendor in the wizards tower. - You don't have to revive players. Allied npcs work as well!
Charged quartz crystals can also be used to buy as many provisioner tokens in one day as you want, but most players don’t have many charged quartz crystals. I try to create one every day in my home instance as well as crafting ascended time gated materials each day, so that made it easier for me to purchase provisioner tokens, but with high value materials from my bank.
Thank you for the guide. It really doesn't seem worth doing again for those of us who already have the Skyscale. Unless someone doesn't have a skin. The skins I already have look better than the Kryptis.
Gortho - bird whistle: If Gortho is not at the bridge, he is in Ebbing Heart Run to the East. You will have to defend him as you escort him back. You can then buy the whistle.
Doing it for 300 AA is not only a huge waste of time but quite a bit of gold too. You get 690 AA from 1 weekly which is much faster, more than twice the amount of AA and it doesn't have a gold cost attached to it either.
For the Kill Ooze's part. you can also go to the jumping puzzle in the southeast part of Queensdale and at the last section before completing it. there are a bunch of ooze's.

Yep. The "usefulness" of skyscale is not even close to how tedious it is to get. I don't even want to get it anymore. Not even with the "smaller" Soto grind.
Two methods to get skyscale 1: involves path of fire + living world season 4, may take a week of effort 2: involves soto, may take a day of effort Both have different masteries. In the very long term you may want to do both of them.
There are some vendors that let you get more than one Provisioner's Token but they cost one time-gated ascended material per token, so if you want to spend those go for it, but they are time gated so you probably want to avoid it.
How do players figure all this out without these kind of videos? This is a lot to do which I suppose makes having Skyscale feel more rewarding. I just unlocked my griffin and I thought that was intense but this is next level! Can't believe that this is the faster, easier method compared to the original way of unlocking it.

Why is flying in GW2 such a ridiculously laborious task? FF14 and WoW are by no means flawless, but being able to fly in those games is far less troublesome.
In order to obtain the POF masteries, do you still need to do the LWS4 collection to unlock them? Or do the POF masteries unlock automatically once you complete the SOTO collection?
For the provisioner coins, I found out that I could craft one of the new "storm"-something weapons (there's two groups of them that have storm in the name). I right clicked it to unlock the skin, which made it account bound, and then turned it in for a whopping five of the provisioner coins. Although the skins sell for a lot on the trading post, getting the skin and then cashing it in for provisioner tokens made it seriously worth it. saved me the hassle of burning resources I wanted to keep, like my ectos.
I have no idea why they make the mount so damn hard to get.
If this is the easy way to get the skyscale, I think I would rather slam my hand in a car door. I'm impressed you did all this.
Skyscale of Life also works on NPCs, I personally did both at the bottom right of crystal oasis at the Zephyrite Village. The NPCs there die like flies and if you happen to have a "kill 100 forged" weekly you can also do that on the side
I did mine in metrica province , in the reactor where the fire element spawns , lots of asuras die there, its beautiful
Sereph Guard in the Bloodfields of Gendarran Fields spawn dead, making them a good option.
OMG this makes the quest soooo much easier to understand.
They respawn weekly
You should try black desert online... After playing this you will find everything in gw2 an easy grind.. It's al about perspective XD
4:15 this one also works for NPC's btw, so you can go to fire elemental world boss spawn and revive all the NPC's there.
That's how I did it.
You can do both in Gendaran Fields where centaurs kill guards.

@@sw-gsThis is the best way IMO. Great comment.
Wait what? So if you get the Skyscale from SOTO you are screwed later for getting the one from POF?
@@Lanzetsu Once you unlocked Skyscale in SotO, you can use it anywhere and on any of your alternate characters. lucasoliveira-zq1dk is talking about the Mastery skill used for the Reality Rift minigame (if you want to do it).
That's just stupid.

This is a perfect example of time-predatory game design.
Found this video recently and unlocked my Skyscale recently. Just showing some love. Thanks man.
in wizards tower, rend scorchmaul NPC, sell provisioners tokens for 300 research notes for 1, and it has no daily cap to it, can buy all at once, if you have the research notes lol, easier to get notes than any of the other stuff you need

Good guide mukluk. Getting skyscale in soto is so easy. For killing 100 enemies in the camp, there is a spot where ~15 spawn, so you can get that skyscale infusion done really quickly. Only took me 5-8 minutes
There's also the Centaur world boss. I wouldn't be surprised if you can kill close to 100 in the pre-event alone.

Skyscale of Ice infusion can also be obtained during the Fraenir of Jormag strike mission... that's how I accidentally got mine. 😅

For Ooze meat, I went to the ruins with the underground area full of oozes in Diessa Plateau, Ascalon
For Treant meat, I went to the oakhearts in Grendarrin Fields (spelling might be wrong)
For devour meat, any place in PoF area (can also get forged in some parts of PoF)
For forged and Kryptis meats, i did a rift event and killed forged in the Marches, Archipelago

I try to do the same every day I play GW2! You never know if or when you 'need' these things, but it's good to have them! 🙃

The easiest way I found was the southeast of Metrica Province. A renown heart has NPCs dying nonstop that can be revived. But that was for the LWS4 skyscale achievement, so it might not work here.

Not all that bad when you tackle it one at a time and most importantly have fun while doing it.
The fact that you describe this as the "fast" method makes me think I don't really need a sky scale that badly
After you get your Skyscale you will see how much you will use it instead of your other mounts. The Skyscale rules! But now that the Griffon can use updrafts, and leylines, it’s the king of flying in GW2.
@@traveling.down.the.road56 I use it in SOTO and I think it's neat and very useful, but I don't want to dedicate that much time to pointless collection quests. I almost ragequit GW2 altogether when I started the roller beetle process and this makes that look simple by comparison.

Yep. The "usefulness" of skyscale is not even close to how tedious it is to get.
I don't even want to get it anymore. Not even with the "smaller" Soto grind.
Hey Muk, how are you doing? I hope you're doing well.
Let me ask you. Do I need the End of Dragons exp to get the Skyscape on SOTO?
Two methods to get skyscale
1: involves path of fire + living world season 4, may take a week of effort
2: involves soto, may take a day of effort
Both have different masteries.
Yeah, old method took like a week and had steps where you had to "come back tomorrow" this one you can do in a day but it is still a project to be sure.

Why is flying in GW2 such a ridiculously laborious task? FF14 and WoW are by no means flawless, but being able to fly in those games is far less troublesome.
being able to fly in WoW and FF14 won't ruin puzzles or reaching areas that requires playing the game
Too many good games out now to justify putting that much work into an ingame convenience. Looks like like a solid guide tho!
In order to obtain the POF masteries, do you still need to do the LWS4 collection to unlock them?
Or do the POF masteries unlock automatically once you complete the SOTO collection?
wurms you can do with the tiny ones just outside the devourer location in ascalon.
For the provisioner coins, I found out that I could craft one of the new "storm"-something weapons (there's two groups of them that have storm in the name). I right clicked it to unlock the skin, which made it account bound, and then turned it in for a whopping five of the provisioner coins. Although the skins sell for a lot on the trading post, getting the skin and then cashing it in for provisioner tokens made it seriously worth it. saved me the hassle of burning resources I wanted to keep, like my ectos.
where do you cashing it in for provisioner coins ?
@@mariospolyravas5096 the provisioners in amnytas accept them. I think two are bugged and reset daily from a randomized list but some are consistent.
