  • Electric Locomotives are rather underappreciated compared to Steam or Diesel Locomotives in North America. Most systems that used to run them either switched to diesel, or shut down completely. From steeplecabs to Interurban Giants, Northeastern Gigachads to Powerful passenger locomotives, were gonna go through another 10 words or less video covering the wide variety of Electric Locomotives.
    Well its been a year since I released "Every EMD Locomotive Described in 10 Words or Less", and that ended up being the most popular video on the channel. Alongside making further installments on my channel, many people have made their own 10WOL videos. I want to say thank you all for the support on this series, and I'm glad most of y'all gotten inspiration off this series, and here's to finishing the series off in 2024!!
    Music used:
    Bring Me The Horizon - Can You Feel My Heart
    Kaolyin - Press Start
    Pompton Turnpike - Charlie Barnet
    ALL PHOTOS USED DON'T BELONG TO ME, THEY BELONG TO THERE RESPECTIVE OWNERS.

    3:12 fun fact, 4 (initially 5) of the 6 are preserved, 6710 is at two mountains, 6711 basically punched her ticket to preservation at the canadian rr museum, by opening the line in 1918, 6712 was donated to the town of mount royal but they sadly scrapped her as they could not find a spot to display, 6714 is at the halton county rr, and 6715 is at the canadian science and tech museum in ottawa. The scrapped one 6713 was used as a spares donor. And 6710 recently got a beautiful cosmetic restoration.

    I find this to be an amusing summary of the electric locomotives of North America! Also, I didn't realize just how many electric locomotives were produced for lines that aren't even electrified anymore (N de M, BC Rail, Northeast Corridor freight, the Milwaukee Road).

    It's cool seeing the GE E50C on here. Never saw them but they were operated near where I grew up in SE Ohio. Ran coal dug up by the Big Muskie (largest ever dragline excavator) down to a conveyor line that brought it the rest of the way to the now demolished AEP Muskingum River electric plant.

    • @russellgxy2905
      @russellgxy2905 Рік тому +1

      The PRR had a few similar units. E44’s but upgraded and reclassified to E50a I believe. One was even upgraded further, an E60a, but Conrail’s abandonment of electrification killed off any other conversions iirc

    • @Kboyer36
      @Kboyer36 Рік тому

      @russellgxy2905 The E50C was basically the same platform but upgraded internals. The unique part was that they were fully autonomous. The two ran as shuttles pulling coal trains from the mines to a nearby power plant. If I remember correctly, they used a series of optical sensors to pick up track side signals to tell it where they were at on the line and what to do.
