No Trainz content list here, I'll do my best to answer where stuff is.
Thanks For Watching!
To clarify, I put the Shay in F Tier as a joke. Realistically I’d put the Shay in either B or C Tier, it’s fine it’s just…so cursed looking lmao.
Shut.
the shay is not that cursed the 4-2-4s, 4-4-0s, and the one 0-4-4t inspection thingys were cursed
@@daveshockwave8098 you mean those coach hybrids?
@@PetersamStudios622 yeah those, they were odd
@@daveshockwave8098 , They are called Steam Motors or Railmotors
The fact you put what could be the paint scheme equivalent of a chocolate covered strawberry over *THE 20TH CENTURY LIMITED* takes some balls of steel my man. Take my sub.
Lmao thanks man!
2:23 Don't forget, 6721 took a runaway covered hopper to the smokebox, saving the passenger station from a direct impact, and even had its tender prop the building up, keeping it from collapsing!! Very chad steamer moment there.
In my opinion the 0-6-0s are going in S tier
When was this???
@@mikestudioz216 2013 i think
That was true
So who’s here watching this knowing that 3001 will run again
Me

Fun fact there is one remnant of the NYC Hudson and its the tender that survived to preservation, if a non profit organization build a brand new NYC Hudson from the rails up, there could be a potential it could be a streamline or non streamline, but one can dream that a new NYC Hudson will be build in the not to distant future.
One Can Dream.......
Personally for me and no offense, but the 4-6-6t is probably unique and borderline underrated. It's just essentially a downsized take on a Hudson as a tank engine and it's big boiler and cylinders is what it makes it. I heard that one of the engines does 20 coaches beating the Pacific's on a daily basis.
Nah I don’t hate them, they’re alright locomotives, I just don’t care for them.
0:04 I love how you used James Coffey's NYC song from I Love Toy Trains.
Yep lol, I love his music.
Very well made video! This is some of the greatest editing I've ever seen for an iceberg list, especially with the seamless transitions between Train Sim clips and with great background music. Despite being a fan of the Pennsy (albeit with their named misspelled in my username), I've always been a fan of all American railroads, especially those as famous as the Central, and I've also had a knack for some of their lesser known engines such as the moguls, P&LE mikados and B&A tank engines. Thanks for the info on some of the Central's greatest steam engines!
Thanks! I’m considering a PRR Tier list in the future as I’m also a big Pennsy fan, I just like the NYC more cause home road.
I didn't know I needed this until I saw it come up in my recommendations. It's 2an, but my trainbrain says I must watch this to the end.
Fun fact. The 0-8-0 Switchers are a common sight in Lionel O Gauge Starter Sets
Yeah I know many people who have starter sets with 0-8-0’s
Hey I have one of those!

Solid list, I agree with much of it, especially the Mohawks and Niagaras. The Mohawks were amazing and I too love them (probably my favorite NYC steamer, especially the L-3a) and I'm so glad you didn't overrate the Niagaras. While the Niagaras were undoubtedly fantastic, I wouldn't call them the ultimate steam locomotive either, so I agree with you there.
Yeah I don’t get the whole ultimate steam locomotive title, they were great no question, but not THAT great.
Um the L-1-2-3 class’s Goated🔥🔥🔥🥶🥶🥶
In my opinion, I love the Niagara’s, but I think the reason they called them “ultimate” is because they went head to head with the new F design diesels. And the Traualtares were close, but the steam engines were just too expensive
The timing on the drop for TDID sent me, good stuff.
New York Central and Pizza Tower is a combo I didn’t know I needed.
14:02 I’d call the P&LE Berkshires Buffalos. Mainly due to the fact they look like Buffalos while looking at them head-on
The FWRHS is restoring 3001! First of the central to run in over 60 years! :D
Alfred E Pearlman: I WANT THAT STEAM ENGINE!!!!!
Sir Topham Hatt: Pearlman, shut up.
LET ME GET OUT MY CHAINSAW!!!

That Shay Joke was absolutely hilarious in my opinion, Outstanding work man, Your Channel is so underrated in my opinion, Keep up the Good work, My man!
Beautiful shots! I love it!
J3a superhudsons with the centipede tender and the disc drivers are chefs kiss
I'm very glad you gave both the F-12 Class Ten-Wheelers and the K-11 Pacifics the attention they deserve, mainly bcuz I've spent my whole life in Brewster, where the Putnam Division once terminated. I even have a book devoted entirely to NYC steam on both the Putnam AND the Harlem that includes both these classes, among others like the B&A Hudsons that were transferred to the Harlem after WWII.
It might just be wishful thinking on my part, but I do also think at least one of the K-11's could've been saved; specifically, #4549, which is known to have pulled the last regularly-scheduled steam-powered train on the Harlem in late 1952 before being scrapped. Occasionally, you might also have seen them on freight trains like the 'Rutland Milk' just as they originally did before the first Mohawks arrived on NYC, often while running at 60 MPH on the double-track line from North White Plains.
I love the ten wheelers too! Been reading up about the old put at my local library
finally another person who likes the empire state express Hudson's as much as me
Honestly, I love the 20th Century Limited so I was surprised that you ranked it A Tier. However, I can’t complain about the Empire State Express being ranked S Tier.
Trust me I love the 20th Century Limited, I just prefer the ESE cause of how much nicer it looks imo.
@@GMan9029I can’t disagree with you there.
However, I do think the Niagara locomotives deserve S Tier but I respect your opinion.
Well, the NE-2 mallets (2-6-6-2) worked the coal fields of Ohio and served very well. I live along the former NYC Alliance Branch in Bergholz, and these beautiful mallets were referred to as "Minerva Mallets" since they were based out of Minerva, not far up the line from Bergholz. A mallet and an H-10 Mikado doubleheaded would handle 100 loaded coal hoppers on northbound trains. Anyway, my two cents, they're B tier on my list
Yeah I know about the NE-2’s, I just lumped them in with the others cause imo, they weren’t really noteworthy. Still good locomotives though and I’ve seen pics of them.
My Dad grew up in Cadiz. He told me stories about the NYC Malleys. Also told me about the W&LE/NKP Malleys also and how you could see them both at Dillonvalle if you played your cards right
funny how you noticed the booster truck on the IHB 0-8-0 first and not the 3rd cylinder and Gresley conjugated valve gear, those things were absolute beasts
The more you know lmao.
lmao yea
Well done video and living on the the former Michigan central line. Also yes the Hudson’s are s tier because there based so great video
The Commodore Vanderbilt kinda reminds me of Snowpiercer from the tv series
Very nice video, and I also like the pacifcs, most notably the one that pulled the cardinal train.
Edit: I also love the Shays the new york central had, someone might kitbash a lionel 2 truck shay into that someday, you never know
8:05 they scrapped my fav nyc train what the hell 😭😭😭😭
Cool tier list!
Yeah,It’s hard not to love the Mohawks.
Probably one of my top 3 Favorite steamers.
Plus,There’s the nostalgia from that one Old UA-cam series.
I know this might sound weird, but if I ever did a Locomotive Tier List, it would be in the form of Top Gear's "Cool Wall" to give it more flair
You and I have different opinions on the 20th(E for me) and the Mercury(S for me), I will honestly say that when I think NYC, I don't think of the Hudson classes actually! I think of the Niagara every time
Though I will 100% agree on the ESE Hudson
For the smaller locomotives, I would have liked to have seen them broken up by individual class, such as individually ranking the F-12 and F-82 for example. There was definitely enough variation in those wheel arrangements to make interesting comparisons.
Yeah I originally wanted to do that but I didn’t want to over crowd the list with tons of engine variations. I made the exception for the pacifics cause those I have varying thoughts on, unlike the F class which I feel about the same for all of them.
P&LE Berk best Berk. Personally, I'd move the 4-6-6Ts to A tier, but I'm also biased as heck towards them (thanks K-Line).
O gauge simp ;]
nah, the 765, 1225, and 2716 are the best berks
i absolutely love atlantic type locomotives
Atlantics are alright but I just don't care about the NYC ones.
@@GMan9029 Ah. That shay tho looks so cool imp, im trying to find more info about them
Honestly, I can agree that the 0-8-0s are really nice
Rivarossi made me like them❤
Overall, I agree about 50/50, but very nice video!!
Thanks! What would you change?
The Indiana and Harbor belt 0-8-0's just remind me of Rivarossi. And that's a great thing, love em
I enjoy all forms of J3 Hudsons they are great
There’s actually one tender of a Hudson preserved in Scranton as the soul remaining piece of a Hudson
I also enjoy the 20th century limited but unfortunately it’s in A tier but hey…. If a Hudson gets S tier, the remaining fleet including the Dreyfuss Hudsons gets S tier since these Hudsons get their streamlining on and off all the time
The Indiana Harbor Belt 0-8-0s were CHONKY, rumored to be more powerful than even the road's fleet of Mikados, they definitely earned their nickname of "Super Switchers".
7:11 I like the streamlined ones way better
The Shay joke was perfect, however I am curious as to what locos you’re using in Trainz and where you got them. I recognize a few as the work of K&L Trainz, but some are different and I’m curious as to where to got them. I know I’m essentially asking for a lot with this, but these videos are where I go to find new locos to search the download station for. Anywho, great video man, solid ratings!
Few people know worldwide steam but to see a world wide randition of this would be EPIC!!!! Its hard to do steam since some engines are so specielized its almost to a degree were you may have to break a list down by task, but....
14:00 I REALLY like the design of this locomotive. I think it looks cool.
I am the 1000th sub
I’m not sure if you know about this but the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society recently acquired several historic passenger cars that were originally used on the Empire State Express
Believe me, I'm very well aware
I also find it quite ironic that the FWRHS got New York Central rolling stock, when the New York Central was a rival to the NYC&St. L (Nickel Plate)
That was a really great video. Do you think you can do on for Santa Fe steam locomotives. That would be fantastic!
Possibly, I’m not a Santa Fe fan but I may do more Tier Lists in the future.
Can't wait!
I bet you were super excited to learn that 3001 is getting restored😊
Im happy too but you mentioned it was one of your favorite engines, so i thought I'd mention it 😉
Can you do this with these other railroads:
-Southern Pacific
-Union Pacific
-Santa Fe
-Norfolk and Western
-Nickel Plate Road
-Pennsylvania Railroad
-Western Maryland
N&W and PRR are planned, I may also do SP.
I was pretty much just here waiting to see what he said about the Niagara's. If you can't put the Diesel's most formidable opponent in S Tier, you have a screw loose. It was the best that steam could offer and while it fell short, no Hudson or Mohawk could have put as much into that trial like the Niagaras did.
@@RaisedLetter I agree the Niagara’s are impressive machines, but the truth is the diesels were cheaper to operate.
And tbh I didn’t take into account performance for this tier list, it was more so just how much I liked an engine, which I like the Hudson’s and Mohawks more than the Niagara’s.
I like the Mohawks and Niagaras the most.
Just something I want to mention coming back here: although yes, those specific streamlined Hudsons pulled the _train_ known as the 20th Century Limited, technically the locomotives themselves are known as Dreyfuss Hudsons, named after the man who designed their streamlined shroud, Henry Dreyfuss.
And of course, right after, _you say their name._ Nevermind, then!
good list, all i think i'd really disagree with is the atlantics being so low (i personally really like how modernized atlantics look)
Wow. Mr bigballs. Very impressive
Big Dick Energy moment
Not enough love for the 999 here! It was the apex of late 19th century polished elegance and beautiful like a greyhound. If they ever build any new Hudsons, they should build a new 999 as a companion engine--complete with its spidery 86" drivers. (There's really not enough of the original left in the carcass of the 999 on display in Chicago to be worth restoring.) As for the Niagras, I get that they were fine machines, but the smokeboxes are faceless and utilitarian-looking. No personality!
In general I think it’s a really good video too, and for the most part, I can agree with your rankings
Those are private Kitbashes aren’t they?
Yes
@@GMan9029 I personally want to learn how to kitbash but no one has showed me how to yet, it looks like the most difficult goddamn thing.
i understand why you like the empire hudson, but for me i would swap the empire with the gray hudson
Hey that's totally fine! You do you.
@@GMan9029 I see why you picked the empire Hudson though but for me the simpler gray Hudson for me though
I'm thinking of making a tier list on my favorite union Pacific steam engines.
Go for it!
You know what, maybe you can make one.
I love the 0-6-0 Switchers
Here's funny fact: somebody call the nyc a2s as NYC buffalos because they said they look a lot like buffalos just sayin btw
You should do a B&O steam locomotive tier list
I respect your opinion I like all of the NYC Locomotives 🚂 but my most favourite HAS TO BE THE STAINLESS STEEL EMPIRE STATE EXPRESS that and the NYC Mercury and The Mohawks and the Especially the Rexall Train Are S for me
This might just be me but the streamlining on the mercury looks like something out of the 2005 robots movie…
Hudson’s are The greatest steam locomotive ever built by the New York central
Good Job.
The depot at 4:20 is on the very busy Chicago line for Norfolk southern in Cleveland
Nice tier
The rexall train is a stream lined Mohawk so I thought it would be higher
Cool video thank you
I think one of those new york central 2-8-0s is preserved, but supposedly as santa fe 2522. Originally it was New York Central 2976, a 2-8-0
Where did you get the Mohawk model from or is it custom content?
hot an honest second if you had put the vanderbelt low i would lost it as it is one of my favorites XD
999 is how tall it is in half inches, it's always at a slight list left or right depending on photo
Ever thought of doing tier lists for european steam engines (example: french, british, bulgarian and serbian (former yugoslavian) steam locos)?
Surprising nothing even went into E.
I was jamming to the ILTT song
You want to blame someone for them not being preserved blame Perlman for his boneheaded
The nyc Shays are interesting, kind of wish there was more info on them.
I bet you love the USATC S160 class locomotive because it’s a Consolidation Locomotive
Indeed I do, S160's are awesome even if they're crude.
15:07 where is that whistle from? It sounds amazing!❤
It's from K&L's Erie/Susquehanna russian decs. It's an actual NYC 5 chime from what I've seen.
The old steam engines are my favorite so i got to put #999 at S teir
Nice video and I agree with almost everything except I would swap the 20th Century LTD and the Rexall train. Blue does not go on a steam locomotive and the gray is nice
So basically the Rexall would be higher than the 20th, which contradicts your statement lol.
Not mentioning the largest group on the Central- the class U 0-8-0s - seems uh... like a choice.
Bro you got some balls of steel for the 20th century lol I know everyone’s saying that
also can you do other railways like norfolk and western, union pacific, Pennsylvania etc?
yoo i js wanted to ask, how were you able to get the fin off of the K&L hudson? Im tryna make the Empire State express and im having some trouble with it.
2:12 2:56 3:37 3:17 4:11 4:52 5:49 6:14 7:12 8:20 9:18 10:22 11:10 11:28 11:46 12:09 13:03 14:01 15:25 16:37 17:12 18:33 18:50 18:57 19:04
Who is here when 3001 is being restored
I agree about the mercury
The Mercury looks fine it fits the era the front just feels too Geometric and kinda looks shambled together in some weird way I do like how it flows with the rest of the cars it makes it feel like one entity the empire state streamliner Looks a little weird The paint scheme would work if the cars were painted as well I have imagined a version of it.That looks more similar to the dreyfuss As in it has the Spartan helmet.Looking thing on the front, but it's more aero shaped like a semicircle or the leading edge of a wing also that weird grill infront of the stack needs to be angled it looks weird
Question? why Not Put #999 In at least A Rank It was the first to break 100 Mph Record 112 Mph To Be Exact just Wondering ?
I’m not a huge fan of Atlantic’s plus the claim it reached 100 mph is dubious.
The 999 being the first to hit 100 mph isn't official, same can be said about the City Of Truro. Officially, the Flying Scotsman was the first to hit 100 mph.
Where’d you get the Trainz New York Central A-2 Buffalo?
where did you find that 999 model for trainz? asking for a friend here :>
19:51 shay gang RISE
I also really like 10 wheelers
cool video
I LOve Hudson's/
would you do NYC #5406.
But it's not even grey it's polished steel with blue accents which makes it look appealing. They probably trying to go for a chrome look (the iconic retro style) but a chrome train would look hideous. It's the closest they could get to absolute luxury in a paint scheme without being gold, which again *hideous,* and that's why people like the way it looks. Not everything needs vibrant colours to look good, still got my sub tho.
Don’t get me wrong, I still love the 20th century limited a lot, it’s definitely up there as one of my favorite streamliners of all time. It’s just for me, I like the ESE more cause of its black and white look, it just looks more appealing to me imo.
It’s quite surprising that NYC managed to get 5 of their steam engines into preservation despite having an anti-steam policy, but Lehigh Valley, Delaware & Hudson, Erie, and New Haven didn’t have an anti-steam policy yet none of their steam engines survived
This is 100% BS ^
You are 100% BS
