There's a bunch GP9's, GP38 junk. In Prince George BC. They'll use 5 or 6 together to switch out the middle yard, or use them on the 2.2% in the South yard. "The spirit of PG" if you'd like. Just clapped out junk doing all it can to not explode.
To be honest I don't have anything against the CSX Heritage units, if anything I'm just glad we got at least something instead of nothing at all you know
I agree. So many people hate them because “it’s not fully painted”. Thing is, CSX could’ve copied NS and painted them entirely but they went a different route. I’m happy that we are getting something. CSX could’ve just not acknowledge their predecessors and not do anything special. The sticker units that they made are so low effort. Same for the BNSF sticker units.
Do you remember NS's BN SD40-2's that they bought in 2013 from HLCX? These were the 3500 series SD40-2's. Look at the patch jobs on those. The last one was repainted in 2016. Most were sold though.
I like the csx heritage units but I hate that many formers keep complaining about them and I said it’s just a heritage unit just be happy that csx is making them.
@@mybadluckcharm True, plus their rebuilt locomotives so if you count the time from when they were rebuilt to now, their only about 40 years old since it was in the 80’s when they were rebuilt which isn’t that bad considering that the gp38-2’s were built in the 70’s
Say what you like about the blue Geeps, but they're some of our best units to work with. They are pretty reliable and comfortable given they actually have AC. We have had 4911 in Belleville for a while and it's great. We previously had 4908 and 4907 and they were good too. Only bad thing is that 4911's overspeed is set at 62mph, which is very annoying when our track speed is 65.
Great video! Glad to see some decent LIRR representation among these GATX units! *How did I forget the Muppets Take Manhattan Cameo in the LIRR Iceberg with the GP38s in their original livery?????*
I never knew that some of the GMTX Geeps were Ex Long Island Railroad. sucks that i wasn't born when they were still in service and now they look like... that... As for us LIRR Railfans..... it's going downhill once the the LIRR gets they're Siemens Chargers.... as if the DM/DE30AC's aren't boring enough...
is the wobbly video in some of the footage from a Samsung. I had one that did that and nobody can tell me what causes it. as some one who worked in video production, especially after the HD era started, I can't believe how bad the wobble is. it's ridiculous when I think of how good iphone video is
Gotta love how CN perfectly f***ed their new paintjob on the GP38s, just don't really giving any bulls**t about how consistently they've looked and the quality on them.
I appreciate the satire behind this video, but what I find disturbing is how many foamers genuinely get angered when they see "ugly" units. The railroads are businesses. In businesses, function trumps form. To give a unit a "good" paint job, it would require the unit to be pulled from service to do so. Given the shortage of power, this would almost certainly result in annulment of certain jobs due to lack of power. It would also cost more company money, which is less money for the hard working crews that get the jobs done day in and day out. Just an alternate perspective for some to look at. Appreciate the video. Someone else already said it, but that "Spirit of Mac Yard" is absolute comedic gold lmao.
The CSX HUs are the worst heritage units ever made. They’re all incredibly stupid and are completely wasted potential. They also feel like an insult to the past rather than a celebration of it. These GATX locos are pretty nice (I love the blue) and they’d be cool to see down here
Leave up alone they got the biggest class 1 they get a exemption from that lol at least they got good looking fallen flags cn only got the few gt units still kicking around in my op
The gatx repatches are so funny how can you call them shitboxes, the best looking locomotives I have ever seen, just like the CSX heritage units are the best heritage units
Bro CN doesn’t care about there ex gmtx what they did to 4908 they were like. hey bubby do you want me to put three CN logos on 4908 and other guy no and then other guy says I don’t care I’m doing and he does. like WTH
CN’s GMD-1 and CP’s RS-23 are far uglier than anything on this list. And running them was terrible. The old prairie branchline junk that could barely move itself let alone a string of loaded 90 ton hoppers or 40’ boxcars. Crawling down an overgrown and neglected 60 lb or 85 lb rail line while feeling like you’re riding a rented mule and diesel fumes wafting into your cab. I mean, they did the job (mostly). And people complain about GPs lol you were fortunate and thankful to get a GP38-2.
And their history-EMD GP39-2 Originally 2 of them Originally were re-built from Penn Central-CONRAIL and now CN.But 1 more EMD GP39-2 is another IDIOT because that unit is Originally built as-EMD GP40 For SCL (First Rebuilt)-And now CN
Don't mind the title in video being different to the title on UA-cam, chose a different name last second since it was more fitting.
Damn only 42 comments on his own channel?
cn cn cn 4908 "spirit of mac yard" is my spirit animal

I love the spray paint patches, it’s so bad it’s good. These are my new favourites of Canada
CN got some horrible locomotives.
Can we just get a gevo in zebra paint already???

It's GP9RM and they are Reliable Ole workhorses
I don’t hate CSX HU’s. As a fellow railfan I like their unique take. You know who else doesn’t hate CSX HU’s?
MY MOM!
“YOU’RE FIRED!”
It was worth it, Benson!
BRO MUSCLE MAN!!! XD
Grew up with that show, love it!

Railroads exist for the benefit of shareholders, not railfans
2:39 I frequently see 4910 on the local that runs through my hometown, and it’s “locomotive” patch will always make me laugh
To answer the question at the beginning.
It's GE widenose cabs without number boards on the front.
There's no life to them whatsoever.
A lot of bonnet locomotives fit that description lol
And B40-8Ws
I really only consider the GE Q cabs as ugly locomotives.
lots of videos from the kitchener area. I work in the Hydro yard on Glasgow st. see those every day , along with Via at 11:50 when it is on time
SPIRIT OF MAC YARD

Exactly the amount of niche rail content i like to see. Subbed
It scares me CN still uses GP9RMs
Not me, the GP9RM's are and still probably will be my favorite locomotive for a while
That's a bit odd. It's not like they're any more likely to explode in a ball of flame, or anything.

As a Canadian these locomotives are beautiful in their unique way
The ones with bad spray paints just makes the Locos look like a Vandals work instead of the actual Railroad owning them
CP had their own diesel that was called the Pride of Agincourt
You really need to chill out buddy...
Who remembers the superfleet C40s with a noodle slapped on it
3:41 Not just 4902 given a Normal patch work but if you look at 4911 it was given the regular CN Wet Noodle Logo for the Patch as well.
We need a series of ugliest on every railroad
I love that "The Pride of Mac Yard!" thing I wish stuff like this was applied to locomotives more often 😆😆😆
Would you be able to do a video on what a "tebu" is?
Endless modeling opportunities with CNs fleet of 38s! Love these nasty engines. Personal fav is 'HMS Tiddlywinks" in Hamilton
i was howling the first time I saw one in Brantford Ontario. I asked a crew when if it was going to be repainted and they just laughed.
0:04 *CN*
Haha just kidding, great video as always, and very agreeable
crash national
The CN FDL yard has had similar. Though as of recent its be cleaner looking Ex-IC and Ex-GTWs with a mix of original paint GTWs.
that is probably the funniest train video i have every seen😂
Im glad that the DT&I still lives on in some of those units
The GE BQ23-7 was downright one of the UGLIEST class 1 freight locomotives EVER!
Say what you like about the blue Geeps, but they're some of our best units to work with. They are pretty reliable and comfortable given they actually have AC. Good point. Despite looks, you cant deny they are pretty solid locos to operate despite there age.
Great video! Glad to see some decent LIRR representation among these GATX units!
*How did I forget the Muppets Take Manhattan Cameo in the LIRR Iceberg with the GP38s in their original livery?????*
I was just about to tell you to get over here cuz lirr

The term “ugliest locomotive” in my opinion is the Southern Railway Q1 as its basically “Honey, I shrunk the Bigboy locomotive”
0:08 The reason why that SD70MAC is in that paint.
Its cuz it was involved in a collision at Lakeside, Nebraska in 2006.
I’ve seen many patched locomotives over the years, personally I haven’t seen a patch job this bad in person yet.
I LOVE locomotives with “shitty” paint (also fouled horns, etc), if you guys don’t want them, I’ll take them lol
W name, love the 844
Loved the video!
You know, with all the graffiti artists out there painting rolling stock for free, maybe ask them to repaint the blue locos.
2:37 Beautiful
Grand Trunk Western was always part of Canadian National.
I appreciate the satire behind this video, but what I find disturbing is how many foamers genuinely get angered when they see "ugly" units.

These EMD GP39-2 Are Purchased by CN to through their EMD GP9-S Build in-1960 and now their 60 years old that-s why
cn cn cn 4908 is an epic unit and deserves excessive documentation
Obviously haven't seen the GMD-1... LOL
Say what you want about the shit boxes but they werent violated with E BELLS
Bro CN doesn’t care about there ex gmtx what they did to 4908 they were like. hey bubby do you want me to put three CN logos on 4908 and other guy no and then other guy says I don’t care I’m doing and he does. like WTH
Worried about paint jobs lol. Utuber is just an urban tech guru

Your opinion is noted.
