I've listened to Pink Floyd since I was about 8 or 9 and I am, today, 47 years old and I would love to tell you how my feel on them has evolved, .......if I had words. Their music has been a security blanket for me through my life. This is ambiguous music that will hit you differently by your different daily mood. But I feel that that's the true art of their music. I owe them a lot.
The best song ever composed. What you don't really hear on this recording is the crowd singing along. I saw this concert in Vancouver, B.C. and there were 65,000 people in B.C. Place Stadium all singing this song together. An etherial moment in time.
I'm 47 and got this bug from my dad. Best gift I got from a man I haven't seen since 1987. Their music has been a lifelong love affair for me and now passed it to my 17 year old son. You're welcome. 😅
There are sooo many layers to their music. Each time I just focus one one thing, be it each harmonic voice, one person at a time all the way to each instrument, one at a time. And then the whole compilation put together. The frequency of the melody must really meet the vibrations of my soul to make me really connect with them like I do. ❤
One of my brother's favorite bands was Pink Floyd. He had all the albums. As a teen, he got me hooked on their music. My brother was killed in a hit-and-run accident while on his motorcycle two years ago. The day after his funeral, I was in my car when a motorcycle seemingly came from out of nowhere and passed me. It took my breath away. I turned on the radio to calm my nerves, and this song came on -- right at the beginning. I so wish he were here!
Pink Floyd flew under my radar too until this last year, I am 64 and now totally hooked ! When at school in 1977 another pupil brought Dark Side Of The Moon in and a track I think it was Money was played during a Music lesson. I thought it was quite good but took it no further. The inexperience of youth. Us and Them and Time are stupendous amongst a lot more. Enjoy like me the belated realisation of how good Pink Floyd are.
Wish You Were Here is one of the most beloved songs of Pink Floyd. Saw this concert twice, along with a few before this. They are the GOAT and nobody puts his soul into his guitar like David Gilmour!!
One of the best bands of all time, this was played at my mum's funeral in 2015 and its always a tough listen but it's still an amazing song. Still hits hard though. I was also at this show, best gig ever. David Gilmour is the best guitarist on earth, nobody plays the way he does.
You have so much more to explore and I hope you enjoy the journey. You may find interviews with David as fascinating and deep as the music . Welcome to the club.
Pink Floyd is a lifelong journey, my friend. You are never "late to the party" with PF. I've listened more than 40 yrs now, and I know there isn't another 40 to go (likely), so I listen to them every day. It definitely soothes my soul every time. God bless.
A perfect example of how Gilmour's guitar is just an extension of his body. He improvises every guitar solo, and yet his voice matched it perfectly, note for note.
no he doesn't improvised every guitar solo, he records them in a half improvised worked out way. he learns them then modifies them as need be but always rehearsed, he doesn't play jazz.
When I was 12, my older cousin introduced me to album that had just been released. That album was The Wall, and it changed everything for me. Thanks, Leonard!
the way Gilmour singing and mimicking the guitar solo, that was probably one of the most amazing and beautiful moments ive ever witnessed. your words is cool and it really sounds so peaceful, great reaction sir.
If I could just for one desire to a genius.... I would ask to forget all Pink Floyd music and song, just to hear them for first time again. Making me tear up each time, mate. Thanks for your reaction, deep and respectful.
My internet was down yesterday, so I pulled out my pulse DVD and listened to this song. Today my internet was back and I'm listening to your reaction. Pure joy on both occasions! Lyrically brilliant as well as the composition.
Man, I really appreciate your excitement and enthusiasm hearing new music and are surprised about it. Thanks for your channel and sharing. Look forward to watching more. Peace.
Related to be late at the party... never is too late. In song 'Time' there are a verse: "And then one day you find Ten years have got behind you No one told you when to run You missed the starting gun" This verse brearks me each time.
Man I only recently started following your reactions, because I’m always looking for Pink Floyd reactions. But I really enjoy your perspective and appreciation for this music. Yes, Pink Floyd just exists on this other plane. They require you’re full attention. You can’t judge it by snippets, or the random song on classic rock radio. I have never know. A single person who has immersed themselves in Pink Floyd, let the music speak, who haven’t eventually come around and “got it.” I appreciate your vibe, and I am happy to watch your reactions to any other artists as well
It just warms my heart to think of the journey ahead as you dig into The Floyd. Everything you described as the impetus for your channel is embodied in their music. (And fans) The "Floyd Rabbithole" is real, but refers to the depth of their subject matter as much as their acoustic brillance. Pink Floyd can be seriously profound. I remember the first time I heard this I was about 6-7(thank you to my amazing parents) it even moved me then but when I listened as I got into my teens and really understood music more it’s a whole new animal. I had this Pulse dvd at 14 which was 3 years after the actual concert and this version is unlike anything, it was like experiencing it for the first time all over again.
I have loved this song for over 4 decades. Pink Floyd being my second favorite band,I have hard it many,Many times. This performance was later on in there career but the concert was amazing. This happened the year I graduated high school.
So glad you're now on board with Pink Floyd, others on you journey from Pulse, One of These Days and Keep Talking and then the classic Echoes live from Pompeii in 1972 that us mind blowing
Some popularized music is good, and some popularized music is awful. Its easy to get skeptical. But Pink Floyd is one of most creative, and talented rock bands in history. They never reached any mainstream popularity though. Maybe associated too much with drug use, whether warranted or not.
One thing to keep in mind is that time has no meaning when it comes to listening to Pink Floyd. 6 minutes, 10, 20, it's all the same. Time warps once the journey begins. This is actually one of their shorter songs but also one of their most iconic. When I saw them perform this live in '88 in Chicago the audience was singing along so loud that it nearly drowned David out completely. To the point he actually stopped singing and let the audience takeover as he played along on guitar. He finally joined back in on the chorus. Felt like church.
Yep Pink Floyd is basically Mona Lisa of refined music...unotuchable influence and greatness, their mere simple humble presence demands it! Regular blokes, happen to be musical and spiritual and emotional monsters, mature as fuck, DONT FORGET THEY WROTE SHIT LIKE THIS IN EARLY 20S!!!!!! too much understaing for life and everything it brings, difrent ppl
As I just bought a new quad receiver and this album. When listening to the song before they make a zip sound which I thought my front channels just went out on my high $ receiver( I'm Piss Off) . As the next sound blend into this song they front channels came back on. brilliant. Dave's DB Martin acoustic guitar sold at auction for $ 470,000 along with 120 guitars for $21 million, "The Black" Strat sold for $3.9 million without Dave's Jimi Hendrix guitar strap XXXX Which Jimi wore on July 4, 1970 playing the National Anthem
Wish u were here is my fave pink floyd song ever ....... i know what u mean about dave gilmores voice , there was a period in my life when every time I heard his voice i burst into tears...... i have no clue why other than it felt his voice was connecting to my soul , like it reached inside my chest n ripped my heart out , its crazy , but this song is the best , thankyou for such a lovely reaction 🤘🏼🖤🤘🏼
The story behind the song , he’s sing about another band member Syd Barrett who left the band after some mysterious psychological break down . The radioish sound in the beginning is David sitting in his room listening to the radio like him and syd did often then later him missing his friend and singing about it alone without his friend. Even down to the parts where he imitates the lead with his mouth like everyone does when they hear a great song. Story goes syd and David would spend hours jamming to what was playing on the radio in his bedroom on the floor. Well that the story as heard it many years ago. Some dispute the story but it makes perfect sense.
Better late than never, Man. Welcome to the party! Be of good cheer, you have the rest of your life to explore PF's amazing catalog, and anything else you may have been missing. Much of PF's music becomes even more meaningful as you age, so you're not too late to savor that! Shine On!
If I could recommend a non metal song: Kakumei by Moroha. They're a Japanese duo, and their performance Live At The First Take comes with English subs. I feel like it will impact you the way it did me. I apologise for any tears ahead of time, but the absolutely staggering amount of emotion the singer puts into it deserves to be witnessed.
This is so powerful and meaningful I am always reluctant to listen to this particular performance regularly - it disturbs me. Bitter-sweet feelings created by Master David. Cannot say any more.
oh my ❤ this one gets me. I can't help but think of my father and all the things he missed. You're right, Gilmour has said he often thinks of Syd, the former band member.. who's struggles with mental illness are the inspiration of some of their songs. Their's a version I adore.. a bit slower, with the violin.. that just makes me weep. Poignant lyrics, super solos, David's voice.. I love it all. you've hit 2/3 of my all time PF songs. You do "On the Turning Away" and I'll be a happy camper! ❤ and ✌️
Pink Floyd "Echoes (Part 1)" live at Pompeii 1972 A little song about all life on the entire planet and how we should be better human beings. No Audience, No Lights, No Pyrotechnics just Gods playing to the Gods
LOVED your reaction when Davids first notes rang out. your jaw just DROPPED through the floor. Yes he IS that talented, he can wring you out and make you feel like he has EVERY RIGHT to. I am 71, the first time i heard this was when my sister bought me the single for my 12th birthday, i spent the nest 3 weeks just LISTENING to all the nuance, have loved music since then. there are great songs/tracks in EVERY genre, in every country and every generation. but since "autotune" most of the "talent" is masked. it doesnt fit into current "TREND" it doesnt get played.
Because you´re a master listener, here´s the master tapes: "Echoes Live in Pompeii 1971/72", "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" (from Studio Album), "Dark Side Of The Moon" (whole Studio Album in one go), "Dogs" (from Studio Album) ...
I was fortunate enough to see Pink Floyd live twice; once in 1988 and once in 1995 for the Pulse tour. For Pulse I had VIP floor seats. It was absolutely incredible. They had to pick open air venues like football stadiums because of all the lasers. They also had double the equipment with, of course, double the trucks to haul. One group would go to next venue to set up while PF was at current venue. The staging, lasers, lighting, etc took like 2 days to set up. I read about it in the newspaper at the time. Best two concerts of my life. Definitely my favorite band and Gilmour is my favorite guitarist. Unfortunately Richard Wright (gray haired keyboard player) passed away. RIP Richard. RIP Syd.
I saw them in Michigan on this tour, and it was fantastic. Best show I've ever seen. It actually was three state sets and trucks. One tearing down the previous show, one ready to play, and one building up for the next one.
It’s funny how many people are so shocked when David scat-sings along with his guitar. Guitarists, particularly the great Jazz cats, have been doing this for a very long time. (George Benson, anyone? 🤷🏼♂️)
Gilmour's solo concerts are just as amazing. You'll love these songs: - David Gilmour - In Any Tongue (Live in Pompeii) - David Gilmour & Richard Wright - Breakthrough - David Gilmour - Fat Old Sun (Remember That Night) - David Gilmour feat. Crosby & Nash - The Blue (Remember That Night)
@@TheWolffAndTheMelody My pleasure! And there is so much more. You might feel late to the party, but look at it this way: you have an amazing journey ahead of you. Enjoy!
Shine on You Crazy Diamond is a must. I'm partial to the live versions, and both Delicate Sound of Thunder and Pulse have great performances. The Pulse version includes the last verse, which is often omitted. And when you understand the back story, you realize just how brilliant the lyrics are.
This song is too short. I love it because it always moves me. I'm not a native English speaker, and (in this case) I understand everything without trying to listen to words. It's so nice to just drowns into the music, forgot about everything. Great reaction (as always) and remember, you're not alone too.
Check out Echoes live at Pompeii for a crazy, almost 25 minute long JOURNEY. Everything down to the setting is absolutely haunting. Easily one of the best live performances of all time imo. Only downside is that the audio quality on UA-cam uploads of it is kinda ass. The best one seems to be on the channel PinkFloyd4k, although it's divided in two parts there.
Their performances were designed to be immersive. You rarely see the audience act out as one experiences with rock bands. Their audiences appreciate before/after, but do not try to upstage the performance. One of the staggering facts about this tour was the staging and lighting cost 25 million--back in 1994. None of the members ever saw themselves as 'rock stars'--they always believed they were musicians, first.
That song is a anti-war song. It is inviting you to the awakened state of crooked humanitarian politics war driven, psychopathic greed driven leaders of our world. It's a song that you can feel the pain The emptiness the coldness the hunger and that yearning for a human understanding. The wall. Animals. Pink Floyd has a very unique way of pushing back against the Wall of indignity and corruption..
Yep, “Wish You Were Here” is short. On the album, it’s the simple, succinct moment of reflection and epiphany, among the more cynical and edgy expressions that surround it. Brilliant creations all.
The older you get, the more meaningful, more important Pink Floyd's gets. David Gilmour is a legend, nobody else gets even near
I was so enthralled by this. I couldn't believe 6 mins went by!
Waters deserves a ton of credit also.
Fact
What an amazing talent David Gilmore is ! I’m so lucky I saw Pink Floyd in concert . Yes they are as good in person as on vinyl . Maybe even better !
Learning to Fly is a great song too
it makes me cry every time i hear this song, takes me back to 1975
Dude its such a good song

A música que preenche a alma
The amount of times I have heard that line when people listen to this band songs, " That's it? I thought it just started"....lol.
Fantastic.
Five and a half minute of pure joy and then "That is it? The song had just started!" That shows how good it is 🙂
I was blown away! SOOOO GOOD!

Thank you for reacting to this! It brought back memories from my 20s when I used to listen to Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin so much
much love friend! Glad you are here.
A perfect example of how Gilmour's guitar is just an extension of his body. He improvises every guitar solo, and yet his voice matched it perfectly, note for note.
no he doesn't improvised every guitar solo, he records them in a half improvised worked out way. he learns them then modifies them as need be but always rehearsed, he doesn't play jazz.
some songs are somewhat improvised, but this song is note for note exactly the studio recording. It really is a written piece of music.

You need to watch the whole "Pulse" concert ! I have the DVD set. Disc 2 they perform "Dark Side of The Moon" from beginning to end, nonstop !

Amazing guitar playing crystal clear David and voice amazing.....my Respect legendary Pink Floyd!

Man I only recently started following your reactions, because I’m always looking for Pink Floyd reactions. But I really enjoy your perspective and appreciation for this music. Dude that means a ton to me. I have loved this journey of discovery. I try and be really transparent with how I feel.
Don't feel bad I'm 66 yrs old and they were always under my radar, now they are my favorite band of all time.
The harmonies on 'On the Turning Away' from this concert has to be your next reaction. Tears will flow.
It just warms my heart to think of the journey ahead as you dig into The Floyd.
Everything you described as the impetus for your channel is embodied in their music. (And fans)
The "Floyd Rabbithole" is real, but refers to the depth of their subject matter as much as their acoustic brillance. Pink Floyd can be seriously profound.
We fans are welcoming and just want new listeners to experience the music, and be moved, as we were, by it.
Floyd fans can get a bit carried away in the comments sometimes... 🤷♂️ but know it stems from a true love for the music that we just want to share.
😉
Looking forward to following your journey.
I really appreciate the kind words friend! This was such a great song and everything i've heard has been amazing. Thanks for being here.
Thank you for the reaction and for tuning into the lyrics of the songs.

One tearing down the previous show, one ready to play, and one building up for the next one.
oh crap it was 3 sets of trucks? Sorry, I remembered it wrong. Thanks for clarifying that!
@Kristina-jf4hd lol No worries, Kristina! It was more for the benefit of the uploader than a correction. ☺️
The music of my youth
It’s funny how many people are so shocked when David scat-sings along with his guitar. Guitarists, particularly the great Jazz cats, have been doing this for a very long time.
(George Benson, anyone? 🤷🏼♂️)
It's never too late brother
Pink Floyd are brilliantly different.
Yes you are.
Gilmour's solo concerts are just as amazing. You'll love these songs:
- David Gilmour - In Any Tongue (Live in Pompeii)
- David Gilmour & Richard Wright - Breakthrough
- David Gilmour - Fat Old Sun (Remember That Night)
- David Gilmour feat. Crosby & Nash - The Blue (Remember That Night)
Oh dude thanks so much! I will check them out.
Much love Pin, this was really great and just awesome song!
Yeah he's harmonizing with the guitar.
HELLO,There is nothing better
Pink Floyd has one problem , after you sit down and listen to their music , when the album finishes you wake up to reality 😢
If ya get to it, try from:
(Division Bell)
🎶"POLES APART"
Check out the LIVE version of MOTHER and ON THE TURNING AWAY.
The Key is Rick Wright!!!!!!!!
Thanks for being here, you, dude !
awwww thanks Sage!
