If you were going to do a full album review I'd recommend Dark Side just because so much of it is intended to be listened to back to back to back. Going from Time to Great Gig in the Sky for example means more than just hearing either song by itself.

The repeat of "How I wish" just before those lines is awesome too, almost emphasising the sense of loss and how powerless the singer feels. Iconic song writing.

Thank you, as an old man, I watch a lot of 'reaction' videos of music I grew up with, you are one of the very few that get emotionally reactive, and that is what music should be about, great music should resonate with your soul and make you smile, laugh and cry, at the same time, otherwise it is just 'pop'. I can never listen to this song without thinking about my younger brother that took his life in front of me, I know the song is about the loss of their lead singer Syd Barrett, but I'm sure this song touches everyone in their own way 😥
I’m actually not surprised that a younger generation is so touched by Pink Floyd. The way they convey the human experience is absolutely TIMELESS! It is a testament to how incredibly good they were!

When you eventually do Great Gig In The Sky if anyone says to do a live version they are wrong. The first listen of that song should always be the studio version.
I'm a old guy born in 57, I love you hear Pink Floyed like I did my 1st time; I cried a few times. They still wake up my mind, they are Time travelers.
This and Shine On You Crazy Diamond are both about their former bandmate Syd Barret. He was kicked out of the band in 68 because he had a problem with LSD. By the time they wrote this song he had effectively lost his mind, so he was still alive, but not there mentally. My favorite lyric is: “Did you exchange A walk-on part in the war For a leading role in a cage?” This song always makes me tear up 😭
I think he purposely went mad but he suffered from shizophrenia either before or due to his drug use at at time when psychiatry was more evil than it is today. I think Syd may have bought into Absurdism a bit too much and as a son who witnessed his own father suffer with schizophrenia, this song hits too close to home. Too bad it was the meaning they both chose to justify their existence :(
Brain Damage is another great song about Syd's state: You raise the blade, you make the change You rearrange me 'til I'm sane You lock the door and throw away the key And there's someone in my head, but it's not me
Only Shine On is specifically about Syd... S-hine on Y-ou crazy D-iamond. They said it in various documents. I still think all of their music has been somewhat influenced by him tho

@@jomojojo6603 Well, according to Nick Mason's book it was half and half. Syd had lost interest, that's why they brought in David. But in the beginning they still picked him up for shows, even, if he didn't play much anymore. And one day, while sitting in the van, they decided not to pick him up. And that was that. Nick also said, they all felt guilty afterwards, but they were to young and inexperienced to handle the situation differently.
Syd’s life seemed very short in many ways. It’s sad he wasn’t there for the band success. Without him, we would not have the magic that is Pink Floyd. David Gilmour is a treasure as is Syd. You can’t have one without the other. I feel this song and the album pays a very sweet and real tribute to Syd.
It doesn't end if you're playing the album, it transitions very smoothly into the second half of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond". If you ever do listen to All of "Dark Side of the Moon" in one sitting or all of "Wish You Were Here" also in one sitting you'll really understand the way these albums work!! There are no albums out there that are engineered any better than most Pink Floyd albums!
Totally. These Pink Floyd albums are meant to be listened to in full. Listening to The Wall is like watching a movie (it was made into a movie, but I still recommend listening to the album). I'd love to see AileenSenpai do a vid of one of these albums in its entirety.
My older brother fell victim to Schizoprenia in his late teens. He was the best of us. His talent, wit and looks left us all in the dust. He was also fearless. And schizophrenia robbed him of his glorious, unbounded and gifted self. Oh Ron, how I wish you were here.
What a classic. When my dad got sober after my mom left him right before their 20th wedding anniversary, this song came to symbolize the memory of his marriage with my mom. She also had a pain pill addiction so they both had their flaws. My dad passed away 12 yrs ago. Behind me in a frame is the "Wish you were here" poster my dad had in his room. Songs have this amazing power of empathy.

it was about the loss of their friend, and original front man Syd Barret. He wasn't dead at the time, but he was mentally so lost. Most of their albums were about him after they made the decision to let him go. It's even more sad to hear this song since he has passed, he was paranoid, alone, and everyone thought he was strange.
I'm so happy for you, being able to experience something like Wish You Were Here for the first time and being moved by it so much. This is one of my fav Floyd songs so it's great to see someone else experiencing it. 🙂

That’s why I have been listening to Pink Floyd now over 50 years.They are amazing is the best way to put it. They always had something to say, and a message.
Having lost both my parents at a relatively young age, I’m thankful that I grew up listening to music like this because of them. Now when I hear a PF song it makes me feel like they’re still here with me in some small way, and I appreciate the music even more because of that. It’s hard not to get choked up hearing this song, but it’s also comforting.
A great song! Other beautiful pieces include: The Great Gig in the Sky Hey you Money Have a cigar Echoes Brain damage/Eclipse I could go on and on. But if you really want a deep Pink Floyd experience, I recommend listening to the entire “Dark Side of the Moon” album from beginning to end. It’s breathtaking!
'When the Tigers Broke Free' is the first time my wife broke down and cried after hearing a song for the first time. Granted, she had a parallel experience, but that one is beyond powerful.
Your ability to instantly and automatically tune in to the music and the lyrical expression on such a deep heartfelt level speaks volumes of how truly caring and loving you must be. My father passed 9 years ago to cancer and was a huge Pink Floyd fan. This song gets me every time. I loved it before but now I always zone out when I hear it and sing the whole thing no matter where I am. Thanks for this one 🙏❤️
I can relate, my dad passed away last year after a year long battle to cancer at the same time the world came to halt due to covid. My dad would always have this song blasting from his truck as he drove home from work and I can still hear it in my head as I wash dishes and just imagine him pulling up to the driveway and singing to his hearts contempt. Its a bittersweet song, because it makes you miss them…but at the same time you cant feel totally sad when this song plays and reminds you of the fond memories you have of them while knowing somewhere up there, they’re smiling down on us knowing we’ll be okay.

I have listened to this song millions of time with a heavy heart as time goes on but seeing your reaction to the lone chorus actually got me to tear and choke up. Amazing how a simple song with one verse and one chorus can hit so hard. Thing to remember Aileen that Pink Floyd during the Roger Waters days that songs would bleed into the next one. This was no exception starting out in the beginning was a transition from "Have a Cigar" where it audibly went into a Radio version and a man (the one coughing) changing the channel to land on a guitar piece where he joined in with his guitar on the second measure... a Brilliant concept on PF's part. The end of the song with it's wind sound lead into "Sine On You Crazy Diamond parts XI - IX", both dedicated to their ex bandmate who had to be let go for increasing mental issues; Syd Barrett. This album is a real journey of feels and emotion as well as epic tracks. Great reaction as always 👍❤
This song will always make me remember my late cousin who passed away 12 years ago at the age of 39 from leukemia. He left us far too soon. Pink Floyd was his favorite band (Led Zep is mine, but we always liked both bands so much). Pink Floyd has so many great songs, but this one is my favorite from them. Simple and short compared to many of their other songs, but this is the one that always makes the most impact on me.
This song, for me, has both a sad and happy meaning behind it, and they both stem from the same reason. This is the last song my father ever played for me on his guitar before he passed of lymphoma in 91 when I was 5, and we played it at his memorial in 2012 on Mount Benell in Austin. That's the sad part. My emotions are lightened every time I listen to this song because I feel as Dad is sitting next to me enjoying this masterpiece with me. Thank you for reacting to it.
I heard this song the day after my brother died. I was riding shotgun and looking out at one of the most beautiful sunsets I had ever seen in my life, right after a rainstorm. Something me and him used to get excited about as little kids. So the rain always gave me a sense of comfort. The timing of everything in that moment was perfect.

It is one of my favorite Floyd songs, in fact this is my favorite album. As good as Darkside and the Wall is, there's just something about Wish You were Here.

I started playing drums in 1975 at 11 years old. The family would go for weekend drives and I’d take my drum sticks and play with everything on the radio but this tune always brought tears to my eyes, even at that age and even today.🥹
This song makes me emotional lost my dad in 1991 when i was in the Persion gulf in the Marines. I have also lost my Stepfather and brother. So this song hits home hard.

That album was dedicated to Syd Barrett, founder of Pink Floyd who had to leave the band due to the mental problems he suffered due to the use of LSD, the cover wants to imply how the absence of someone you love feels, that burning to know that it is not that person even if it is by your side, without a doubt it is one of the best albums that Pink Floyd has ❤️

Of course, the song is originally written for someone that isn't around anymore... a memorial piece. Floyd songs mean different thing's to you as you go through life. Probably like most songs do to most people. I can say this song, my wifes personal favourite, means more to me now than it ever did when it came out. Be at peace my darling.. we all miss you so much xxxx

As I commented below, you immediately connected with it. Waters himself (writer) said the song is about living one's life in an authentic way. Finding oneself, clarity. There is an undertone about his personal loss, but in his own words the song is more abstract.
In the last year ive lost my beautiful mother to cancer, and have just recently found out my dad has been diagnosed with Parkinson's. Pink Floyd is and always will be my favourite band, and despite having heard this song 10000000x before, it's hitting me harder than it ever has before. The power of music is as real as you and I. Growing up with Pink Floyd gave me role models. They helped define my world view, my sense of self and others, and informed me on so many levels. It is sad that "they" broke up due to basically perfectionism. My hope is that they find peace soon as Time marches on. Their music and lyrics are eternal though.
Floyd is weirdly uplifting for all that is so sad and introspective. It's that feeling that someone else really understands your pain, can express what you wish you could say if you only had the ability to express yourself like they can.
My best friend of all time, we met in Advanced Infantry Training, we were drafted, this became our song, he's gone now, and this always brings the flow of tears. Great to watch you react, you are such a sweet soul.
The album was released in 1975 at the close of the Vietnam War. I always thought the lines “did you exchange a walk-on part in the war for a lead role in a cage” to mean did you voluntarily go when drafted or did you protest against the war and then was arrested. It’s a beautifully powerful song either way.
I'm 69 years old and was in my 3rd year at college when this album was release; it's nice to see some of the younger Folks are learning just how good much of the music from the 1970s (led by Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, The Who, and others) really was.
This was the first Floyd album I heard & I consider it the best with Dark Side as a very close second. Dark Side came before it but once into Floyd one needed to hear the whole.
I think the words “Wish you were here” really hit you as we all are affected by that desire. Thank you for this sensitive and intelligent reaction. The song is about a key band member who encountered mental problems and shocked the band when he turned up after some years, looking almost unrecognisable, at a recording session.
Pink Floyd is my favorite band. They illicit the deepest and most intense emotions that I try to bury bc they’re too hard to handle. I’m grateful and lucky to be able to listen to them. What I would give to have heard them live in their day

I love your reaction because you are spot on with the meaning of rhe song. There is a true life story behind it, as Syd Barret, one of the founders of the band was taking too much acid (this was in the 60's) and ended up kinda losing his mind. So this song was a kind of sad tribute to him from the band. (Syd actually showed up during the recordings of this album and NOBODY in the band knew who he was! THAT"S how bad he got! The band freaked out when they found out it was Syd, the one they were singing about.) So, yes, the song is sad and very personal, that's why it resonates that way to you. You are an empath

Actually Roger (who wrote the lyrics) said that this song was about absence in general. not about Syd specifically. But Dave (who sang it) said that EVERY time he has EVER sang it (in the studio and live), that he thinks about Syd while singing it. So, Yes and No (I guess?)

Probably my favorite Pink Floyd song. The entire album is basically a tribute to Syd Barrett. When you get a chance react to the entire album. Some diehard Floyd fans think this is their best album.
Wish You Were Here was the first song I ever learned to play all the way through on guitar. I was 9 years old in 1975. Pink Floyd have been an incredible influence on my life ever since.
If you can manage a 16 minute reaction, then I highly recommend reacting to Shine On You Crazy Diamond by Pink Floyd. It's an epic song and takes us through the journey of life.
I'm viewing your videos for the first time. I like your honest reactions. I'm skipping around looking and listening to your reactions to Pink Floyd. I'm sure somewhere in these Pink Floyd videos comment sections, which are at least a year old according to the UA-cam's stat, that someone has mentioned that in listening to Pink Floyd how the songs on an album meld together like one continuous song, on purpose. Just like life doesn't actually stop as we move from day to day or moment to moment. So I'm saying this here because I see where it seems strange that this song would end with the wind beginning to blow but it is transitioning into the next song as nearly all Pink Floyd songs do, again, on purpose. ✝️🕊️
The members of Pink Floyd are of the generation whose fathers went to fight in WWII and never came back, so when he sings the line about trading your heroes for ghosts it's meant quite literally.
Armies and wars are completely without heroes of any kind. It's insulting to even use the word hero when referring to a person who gives away his autonomy and his humanity, becomes a tool of the corrupt state, and engages in every kind of sin there is because of constructed enemies and self-induced fears.
Heroes are opposite to soldiers. They don't succumb to mass-hypnosis and they don't become slaves of the State. They might even fight the State if necessary... But they certainly don't obey it.

I'm a old guy born in 57, I love you hear Pink Floyed like I did my 1st time; I cried a few times. They still wake up my mind, they are Time travelers.
This and Shine On You Crazy Diamond are both about their former bandmate Syd Barret. He was kicked out of the band in 68 because he had a problem with LSD. By the time they wrote this song he had effectively lost his mind, so he was still alive, but not there mentally.
My favorite lyric is:

I think he purposely went mad but he suffered from shizophrenia either before or due to his drug use at at time when psychiatry was more evil than it is today. I think Syd may have bought into Absurdism a bit too much and as a son who witnessed his own father suffer with schizophrenia, this song hits too close to home. Too bad it was the meaning they both chose to justify their existence :(

@@jomojojo6603 Well, according to Nick Mason's book it was half and half. Syd had lost interest, that's why they brought in David. But in the beginning they still picked him up for shows, even, if he didn't play much anymore. And one day, while sitting in the van, they decided not to pick him up. And that was that.
Nick also said, they all felt guilty afterwards, but they were to young and inexperienced to handle the situation differently.
Syd’s life seemed very short in many ways. It’s sad he wasn’t there for the band success. Without him, we would not have the magic that is Pink Floyd. David Gilmour is a treasure as is Syd. You can’t have one without the other. I feel this song and the album pays a very sweet and real tribute to Syd.
It doesn't end if you're playing the album, it transitions very smoothly into the second half of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond". If you ever do listen to All of "Dark Side of the Moon" in one sitting or all of "Wish You Were Here" also in one sitting you'll really understand the way these albums work!! There are no albums out there that are engineered any better than most Pink Floyd albums!

What a classic. When my dad got sober after my mom left him right before their 20th wedding anniversary, this song came to symbolize the memory of his marriage with my mom. She also had a pain pill addiction so they both had their flaws. My dad passed away 12 yrs ago. Behind me in a frame is the "Wish you were here" poster my dad had in his room. Songs have this amazing power of empathy.
This song is about their original lead singer/guitar player, sid barret, sid left the band due to taking to much lsd and went insane, beautiful song about a good friend

it was about the loss of their friend, and original front man Syd Barret. He wasn't dead at the time, but he was mentally so lost. Most of their albums were about him after they made the decision to let him go. It's even more sad to hear this song since he has passed, he was paranoid, alone, and everyone thought he was strange.

Having lost both my parents at a relatively young age, I’m thankful that I grew up listening to music like this because of them. Now when I hear a PF song it makes me feel like they’re still here with me in some small way, and I appreciate the music even more because of that. It’s hard not to get choked up hearing this song, but it’s also comforting.

I can relate, my dad passed away last year after a year long battle to cancer at the same time the world came to halt due to covid. My dad would always have this song blasting from his truck as he drove home from work and I can still hear it in my head as I wash dishes and just imagine him pulling up to the driveway and singing to his hearts contempt. Its a bittersweet song, because it makes you miss them…but at the same time you cant feel totally sad when this song plays and reminds you of the fond memories you have of them while knowing somewhere up there, they’re smiling down on us knowing we’ll be okay.

I have listened to this song millions of time with a heavy heart as time goes on but seeing your reaction to the lone chorus actually got me to tear and choke up.
Amazing how a simple song with one verse and one chorus can hit so hard.
Thing to remember Aileen that Pink Floyd during the Roger Waters days that songs would bleed into the next one. This was no exception starting out in the beginning was a transition from "Have a Cigar" where it audibly went into a Radio version and a man (the one coughing) changing the channel to land on a guitar piece where he joined in with his guitar on the second measure... a Brilliant concept on PF's part.
The end of the song with it's wind sound lead into "Sine On You Crazy Diamond parts XI - IX", both dedicated to their ex bandmate who had to be let go for increasing mental issues; Syd Barrett.
This album is a real journey of feels and emotion as well as epic tracks.

That man coughing was Richard Wright. He was embarrassed by that and stopped smoking. Sadly, the damage was already done.
This song will always make me remember my late cousin who passed away 12 years ago at the age of 39 from leukemia. He left us far too soon. Pink Floyd was his favorite band (Led Zep is mine, but we always liked both bands so much). Pink Floyd has so many great songs, but this one is my favorite from them. Simple and short compared to many of their other songs, but this is the one that always makes the most impact on me.
This almost brings tears to my eyes. A truly wonderful album.
This song, for me, has both a sad and happy meaning behind it, and they both stem from the same reason. This is the last song my father ever played for me on his guitar before he passed of lymphoma in 91 when I was 5, and we played it at his memorial in 2012 on Mount Benell in Austin. That's the sad part. My emotions are lightened every time I listen to this song because I feel as Dad is sitting next to me enjoying this masterpiece with me. Thank you for reacting to it.
I heard this song the day after my brother died. I was riding shotgun and looking out at one of the most beautiful sunsets I had ever seen in my life, right after a rainstorm. Something me and him used to get excited about as little kids. So the rain always gave me a sense of comfort. The timing of everything in that moment was perfect.

I started playing drums in 1975 at 11 years old. The family would go for weekend drives and I’d take my drum sticks and play with everything on the radio but this tune always brought tears to my eyes, even at that age and even today.🥹
This song makes me emotional lost my dad in 1991 when i was in the Persion gulf in the Marines. I have also lost my Stepfather and brother. So this song hits home hard.

Of course, the song is originally written for someone that isn't around anymore... a memorial piece. As I commented below, you immediately connected with it. Waters himself (writer) said the song is about living one's life in an authentic way. Finding oneself, clarity. There is an undertone about his personal loss, but in his own words the song is more abstract.
In the last year ive lost my beautiful mother to cancer, and have just recently found out my dad has been diagnosed with Parkinson's. Pink Floyd is and always will be my favourite band, and despite having heard this song 10000000x before, it's hitting me harder than it ever has before. The power of music is as real as you and I. "Wish You Were Here" is about the detached feeling many of us float through life with. It's a commentary on how people cope with the world by withdrawing physically, mentally, or emotionally. The main inspiration was Pink Floyd founding member Syd Barrett and his ordeal with schizophrenia.

Pink Floyd songs tend to run into one another. They are separate songs but they blend together for one long, wonderful journey. It sounds like they 'just end' but that's actually the beginning of the next song getting cut off.

It has maybe lost its originality a bit because of so much air play and pure popularity, BUT when you really listen its just WOW! Like the lyrics in "Time" yeah its about wasting .. life .. time . Growing up with Pink Floyd gave me role models. They helped define my world view, my sense of self and others, and informed me on so many levels.
It is sad that "they" broke up due to basically perfectionism. My hope is that they find peace soon as Time marches on.

Floyd is weirdly uplifting for all that is so sad and introspective. It's that feeling that someone else really understands your pain, can express what you wish you could say if you only had the ability to express yourself like they can.
My best friend of all time, we met in Advanced Infantry Training, we were drafted, this became our song, he's gone now, and this always brings the flow of tears. Great to watch you react, you are such a sweet soul.
The album was released in 1975 at the close of the Vietnam War. I always thought the lines “did you exchange a walk-on part in the war for a lead role in a cage” to mean did you voluntarily go when drafted or did you protest against the war and then was arrested. It’s a beautifully powerful song either way.
I'm 69 years old and was in my 3rd year at college when this album was release; it's nice to see some of the younger Folks are learning just how good much of the music from the 1970s (led by Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, The Who, and others) really was.
This was the first Floyd album I heard & I consider it the best with Dark Side as a very close second. Dark Side came before it but once into Floyd one needed to hear the whole.
Those two albums stand head and shoulders above all the others.

The song is about a key band member who encountered mental problems and shocked the band when he turned up after some years, looking almost unrecognisable, at a recording session.
Pink Floyd is my favorite band. They illicit the deepest and most intense emotions that I try to bury bc they’re too hard to handle. I’m grateful and lucky to be able to listen to them. What I would give to have heard them live in their day

I love your reaction because you are spot on with the meaning of rhe song. There is a true life story behind it, as Syd Barret, one of the founders of the band was taking too much acid (this was in the 60's) and ended up kinda losing his mind. So this song was a kind of sad tribute to him from the band. (Syd actually showed up during the recordings of this album and NOBODY in the band knew who he was! THAT"S how bad he got! The band freaked out when they found out it was Syd, the one they were singing about.) So, yes, the song is sad and very personal, that's why it resonates that way to you. You are an empath

Probably my favorite Pink Floyd song. The entire album is basically a tribute to Syd Barrett. When you get a chance react to the entire album. Some diehard Floyd fans think this is their best album.
Wish You Were Here was the first song I ever learned to play all the way through on guitar. I was 9 years old in 1975. Pink Floyd have been an incredible influence on my life ever since.

I'm viewing your videos for the first time. I like your honest reactions. I'm skipping around looking and listening to your reactions to Pink Floyd. I'm sure somewhere in these Pink Floyd videos comment sections, which are at least a year old according to the UA-cam's stat, that someone has mentioned that in listening to Pink Floyd how the songs on an album meld together like one continuous song, on purpose.

The members of Pink Floyd are of the generation whose fathers went to fight in WWII and never came back, so when he sings the line about trading your heroes for ghosts it's meant quite literally.
Armies and wars are completely without heroes of any kind. It's insulting to even use the word hero when referring to a person who gives away his autonomy and his humanity, becomes a tool of the corrupt state, and engages in every kind of sin there is because of constructed enemies and self-induced fears.
Heroes are opposite to soldiers. They don't succumb to mass-hypnosis and they don't become slaves of the State. They might even fight the State if necessary... But they certainly don't obey it.
