Good tips, thanks! I've been using C3, C3 carbon and Touratech Aventuro Mod (Schuberth E1) for about 10 years, I agree with you with the ratchet pull-tab, it's far too small and short, an absolute pain in winter with thick gloves. My only other gripe is with the "double-glazing" pinlock visor, if/when it gets loose, the first time you notice is after 10 minutes, and by that time you might already be on a motorway with the next exit 20 miles away... Apart from that, best helmets in the world! 😂

Hey Melissa I actually have a C4 which does exactly the same thing. Even though I prefer the visor down above 60MPH I went ahead and got a box of O rings from Amazon and installed them just as you showed and it worked perfectly so I can avoid the mini heart attack that happens when the visor suddenly slams shut. There are a few other more complicated solutions on YT but yours is the simplest and therefore (imo) the best. You are a very clever and practical person so thanks because this tradesman would not have thought of such an elegant solution. I guess I had better subscribe in case you have other great ideas 🤟

I purchased two C5’s last year, one for me and one for my girlfriend. Mine was a little tight front to back. The pads for long oval heads fixed that. My girlfriend complains about the thickness of the cheek pads. She has complained about her visor not staying up. It didn’t bother me, but I don’t ride with the visor up very often. I will have to add the o-rings.

Yeah I didn't want to take it out but I was in a situation where I had to ride at night and with my prescription glasses, pin locks make it so that any light or reflection are huge lines in my vision. It's super hard to see. My plan is just to get a second visor so I can change it out if I'm in a situation like that.

Thanks for tips Melissa. After watching and reading comments I went to my local Ace Hardware and bought #29 "o" ring 1 1/4" ODs 1 1/8" ID. Thin and stretches around visor, plus it's not too big where you go back it comes off. Thought I'd pass this info forward.

Great tip! I have a Schuberth SR1 and was looking for an explanation for two black nobs left and right below the transparent pinlock things. Well, I subscribed anyway 😉.C5 is not suitable for me because I ride a lot at high speed on the German Autobahn. Modular Helmets might be enough below 130mph but above I think modular helmets are not safe enough. Keep on making these kind of useful videos! It is not always only about entertainment. @stixdrive Glad you found my video! My husband and I have been using this fix for well over a year with no difficulties. My husband has started to notice a little deterioration of the plastic of the O rings which we treated with some mineral oil to preserve it a little longer. But considering my husband put over 17,000 miles on his bike last year using the C5 with the O ring...I think that's pretty good longevity. Good luck and happy riding!

    Hi Melissa,
It seems like you also have an early-series helmet, just like me. The early-series helmets had a faulty mechanism, which was later modified. My dealer told me that there's a sort of recall for the helmet, and Schuberth will replace the mechanism under warranty, so I was able to send my helmet back to them. I can't wait to get the helmet back and try it out to see if it has really improved.

I was looking into this about a week ago and some had claimed that Schuberth didn’t see this as a problem because they weren’t a fan of riding with the visor up. I hope their fix fixes your problem. I’m surprised that any US market helmets were early-series helmets since the helmets were introduced in late 2021 in Europe. The US helmets didn’t arrive until mid 2022. I know that the shell is different on the US helmets. It is possible that the shield mechanism could be different too or they realized that people in the US like riding with the visor open. It does seem silly to have a visor with detents as if it can be in different positions while riding.

Great tip Melissa. Can you tell us if it is now easier or more difficult to "lock" the visor into the tabs on each side in the down position? That is the other issue I have with the C5 visor that sent me to the Neotec 2.

    • @melissasmotorcycleadventures
      @melissasmotorcycleadventures  10 місяців тому

I have no problems with the lock. The only thing that is different is that the memory of the visor being open doesn't work. It's always in the closed position when you open the modular part. But it is still worth it to put the O ring in for me

With both O rings on, the visor does stay open but if push too far up either by wind or hands it will come off. Watching your video again, I suspect that the O rings I used might be too thick. I bought the E2 which, as I understand, is the same but with a peak. Struggled with the visor but, what was worse was when I took it out in the rain. Absolutely lethal. Poorly sealing visor meant a waterfall down the middle, pooling on the chin-bar. Opening the vents to clear the mist from the ill-fitting pinlok blew water droplets directly into my eyes. I bought Schuberth C5 as well, because I wanted to believe German engineering would be better. Same problems as others with the clear face shield not locking down in place because the plastic tabs molded into the shield either side would not clear the “ledges” on the black plastic parts on either side of helmet. One owner filed them down a bit to make it work. Another went back to Schuberth and they sent replacement black parts for either side. Another mentioned using silicon lube. Great, buyers/users of $800 helmets smarter than German engineers. I just bought a Shoei Neotec II modular. Clear face shield latches in place every time. The modular front part faces and locks with more certainly. Airflow keeps my head cooler in 90-100degF temps. And it is quieter. And seems the aerodynamics are better because after wearing it 3-4 hours the joint at the base of neck vertabrae and top of back vertabrae is not sore. Enough said. But it did cost $100 more. I think in this case Japanese beats German. Hopefully my BMW MCs don’t mind.

@@melissasmotorcycleadventures UPDATE: My C5 is now a paperweight.
The amount of noise that comes in as the visor doesn't seat properly, makes riding with it unbearable. The wind comes in and whistles loudly. It comes in via the bottom part where the visor is meant to be seated as well as on the sides where the visor connects.
The detents don't hold up at all now and will drop with a slight bump.
On top of that, the vent for the visor (top vent on the chin bar) also fell off last time I rode in the flip up position.

@@melissasmotorcycleadventures Makes sense… But it’s impossible to wear that helmet when the visor drops hard while riding. We live in the USA - No need for that extra regulations… Leave that to the Europeans. As I said, after owning Schuberth helmets for more than 10 years - I’ve never had this issue…

I think Schuberth should recall the visors. I am sure they knew it from out of production. It bugs me every time it closes down because it does it with force.

I agree with you. I reached out to Schuberth twice about it...no response. That disappointed me that their customee service was not very good

Vaseline is always recommended on a tight ring.

For safety reasons, the flip will close automatically by a speed of approximately 30 40 miles.

You must mean 20 mm radius o-rings. O-rings sold by diameter. I bought 20 mm ones on Amazon and absolutely no way getting those around the 40mm diameter plastic circles on each end of visor. Unless of course you are buying some type of very stretchable material. A particular type of rubber like in rubber bands, maybe.

What I don't get with Schuberth is their use of 2 shell sizes for that kind of money. I have a LS2 Infinity 2 carbon that was $230 and comes in 4 shell sizes. The Shoei Neotec 2 also comes in 4 shell sizes, but for me personally, no helmet brand has fit me worse than Shoei. I suspect I should have upsized from what I normally wear, but they're too expensive to gamble on that being a fix, so I just don't buy them anymore.

Yes I don't know why they don't have different shells. I'm sure it comes down to money as is with my business decisions. 🙄

Isn't to heavy weight this helmet? I bought it and used only two times! The neck hurts from the weight! I will sell it. I'm very disappointed!

I do find most modulars are heavier for sure. The AGV sport modular is 2.98 lbs. I dont know much about that helmet but that is a pound lighter than Schuberth!

I don’t actually mind the visor coming down at speed. I don’t want to get hit on the cheek by an insect at 60 mph.

Hey Melissa, i have never watched a video from you before but my senses are tingling.
You jokingly said that that your Husbands BMW is now yours, you are clicking your tongue very often, you are talking about "your" house 05:40.
You gonna kill your Husband or what?
