The weight increase is due to Shoei adjusting and adding material to the sides for the new 22.06 standard. Most helmets have gone up 100-200g.
Delighted that you’re enjoying your new helmet Dave. I’ve used flip front helmets for more than 20 years and always like the freedom they provided - at petrol stops, shops and hot summer days. I’m using a Shoei Neotec original and am surprised at how expensive it is to replace it. Like you, buying on line is not a good option. Thanks for your latest piece of entertainment.
Had Arai for 12 years since the mid 80s then Shoei for the last 25 years. I find them the best fitting, most comfortable and like the ratchet lock system. I now wear the J-Cruise, an open face helmet with full visor which I prefer to the full face.

Hi Dave, these are a lovely comfortable helmet and great in summer on the GS. I have the sena intercom fitted and this makes touring all the more enjoyable. Another good video.

Ive always regarded myself as a Shoei man at heart as ive had 3 versions in the past,xr900,xr1000, x-spirit.
Currently running with X-lite.
I will have another shoei at some point though.

I rode over to the MCN Bike Show in London this weekend. Returned on the Holyhead ferry yesterday afternoon. Two other bikers ahead of me both wearing white coloured Shoei Neotec helmets. I thought they looked good and I should have a look online. I then open up UA-cam this morning and see this review! I think I'll do the Lotto this week.....

Big Shoei Neotech fan but moved to Schuberth on my GS with the E1, great helmet but I didn’t like the tightness around my forehead initially but it got better. I then tried the AGV Tourmodular, love it as it’s so light and comfortable and having a great field of view I feel like it’s not there at speed. Looks great too as it has a carbon composite shell and conforms to the latest top safety regs.
I have one and love it too. I managed to fit a Cardo using the standard clip mount. It was a bit of a fiddle to find the right slot in the helmet lining (a little further back than normal) but it works as well as I could wish.
Great video Dave. I have an Arai Quantic and the noise while riding my VFR800 is unbearable, it is an echo chamber, so I have been looking at the neotec 2, Great to see you reviewing the Shoei Neotec.
I had the 1st gen of the Neotec when it came out in 2011 it was a game changer then so can imagine Gen 3 is something else , currently have the GT air and that's great too 👍🏼
Hi Dave, Great looking helmet, even matches that snazzy jacket! I never notice the weight when wearing, only when carrying. Noticeable change in sound when the visor was cracked open, in fact I preferred it. Then noticed the ventriloquist part.😂😂 Great vid as always, cheers Arthur
Great helmet. You’ve only got to look at the Schuberth C5 to see why they have put a central clip on it. The Schuberth has to be pushed closed with both hands as it has one sided latch ( or it did on the new lid in the shop) that’s the main reason I chose the Neotec 3. Great video Dave 👍

I've a similar helmet Dave but non flip up.
It's light slightly snug so you if your medium you might try large. It never steams up , great helmet Shoei.
Great review Dave, thanks. Bought a Neotec 3 myself a few weeks ago, very happy so far but haven’t used it too much yet. Only gripe I would have is that there is very little adjustment in the chin strap but it fits ok…. Just about.

Shoei helmets are the only ones i can get to fit my head. Tried them all. B nice to have cheaper options but..there you go. Crossons sales man was excellent

Thanks for your honest review as somebody who has actually bought it themselves, I've had a Neotech 2 for 4 years after having the original 1st Gen for a number of years, I will be moving over to the Neotech 3 next year, one thing that does disappoint me is that the intercomm from the Neotech 2 will NOT fit the new Neotech 3 so you have to fork out for two new intercomms as well as two new helmets, that's around £1800!!

My Shoei GT Air 2 is almost 5 years old (where’s the time gone 🤔) have to say it’s been a fantastic helmet once I got the sizing for the cheek pads swapped out for some thinner items. I have been considering this helmet but my biggest concern is noise, you’ve said it’s actually quieter than your GT Air 2 well if that is the case why would anybody bother with a GT Air 3 - the Neotec 3 wins on practicality. So I’m very tempted, I have to say you’ve answered the exact question I wanted to know, I ride a Triumph 1200 GT Pro so I’m guessing similar to your GS re wind turbulence etc.

Yes I still love my Neotec, it offers everything. Looking forward to some warmer weather for some ‘flip-up’ touring! 🇮🇪🏍️
With regard to the latch on the side of the visor vs the middle of the visor, I have the NEOTECH II (left side latch) and, if stopped with the clutch in, it is quite difficult (read: a real pain in the whotsit) to open the visor with your right hand. The Schuberth, which I also have, is so much easier to open the visor. I believe, and I am prepared to be wrong, that this was one of the main complaints people had about not buying the NEOTECH II (other than head shape, chin strap placement and price).
Have you had any problems with insect ingress with the SHOEI? I found that more insects were making into the helmet through the top vent (compared to the Schuberth) that I put some fine mesh over the holes under the vent on my SHOEI.

Hi Glenn! Same place bud, right in front of my mouth. Loads of space and sits nicely above the chin material. 👌
After 6 years I was ready to hang up my original Neotec, but didn’t want to wait for the 3’s arrival in the US sometime this year, so I bought both the 2 and the 3 a few months ago from FC-Moto in Germany at a substantial discount than what I would have paid in the US. Yes, they’re not US DOT rated, but I didn’t care about that…I think ECE is the better standard anyway. Read good things about Cardo, so I mounted a Cardo Packtalk Edge to the 2 and transferred the Sena 50S from my original Neotec to the 3 using the clamp mount, which does fit but you must have a little patience and work it in. The 50S boom mic will also fit on the left side just like the 2, although if you get the new Sena comms for the 3 there’s a channel on the right side specifically for the boom mic. I’m enjoying both helmets and comms so far.

Before you buy a Neotec 3 check the availability of parts. Can't find a Pinlock insert without buying a visor for £85, and guess what, the Neotec 2 inserts won't fit!!
I've had at least 3 flip up helmets,premium and budget, and none recommended riding while in the flip up mode. Super at fill ups and while getting directions. Sometimes too much ventilation is irritating to the eyes as it has a drying out effect. Never had a perfect helmet., but you get what you pay for. 👍👍5🏍🙋♂️
A question more about the matching SRL3 communicator:
1. Can it pair with Cardo mesh yet? My brother has Cardo, and making connection proprietary instead of open will decrease the enthusiasm factor, as Cardo is trying to make theirs open.
2. I have a C5/SC2 combo and the speakers aren't very loud. Is the SRL3 better than the SC2? It'd cost me about $300 more to get the Neotech3/SRL3 combo compared to another C5/SC2 combo. I want to know if the SRL3 is that much better.
I have no idea as I don’t own the SRL3. Maybe someone reading this comment can answer.

Thanks for the good review. I don’t like the d ring type much prefer the ratchet type and my helmet lock will only work with d ring actually as I am typing this my helmet lock would just slip through the d ring but it’s a pain and the ratchet is quicker. My helmet is 4 years old and has been dropped from handle bar height so need to replace.
Same as me Malcolm, I can’t cope with a D ring system.
I dont think its that Shoei have added more padding etc around the neck but that it's simply you've gone for the first flip up. Since the helmet opens up you can put you head in and then close off the neck hole. You can't do that on a standard full fave helmet as you'd never be able to put it on.

Hopefully Cardo will bring out an adapter for the Neotec 3 as they have done for the Neotec 2 for the fitting of the New Cardo systems and I am told possibly an adapter for the Bold but don’t quote me on that.

with my current and much cheaper helmet, a caberg avalon, having the sun visor down and the main visor up, the air get blasted right into my eyes even at lower speeds making it a bit uncomfy, so how is it riding with the neotech 3 like this? is it sealed better so the sun visor acts more like sunglasses?
I’ve experienced this with other helmets so I know what you’re talking about. This helmet has a sun visor which drops a lot lower and minimises this a lot.
I like the look of them sorry not sorry haha. But agree the feedback is not good enough it’s so mixed reviews. where as shoei arai there is very little very small ammount if bad reviews. I don’t think they can compete with the wind protection/ noise and comfort, let alone safety features.

@@WheelieGoodTV Well since you already have a GT air 2 Long term could you also do a more in depth long term revIew of the GT air 2 ?i think people will want the GT air 2 now that the 3 is out and 2 will be on sale
I liked my Neotec 2 but swapped it for a Neotec 3, I wish I hadn’t. My 3 suffers from really bad misting of the drop down visor, poor ventilation and the drop down visor hits my nose. None of these are major issues on their own, but put together frustrate and annoy me - it’s going to go!
Wow I’m surprised to hear that. I’ve had no problems at all and have ridden in a lot of rain.
I’ve had the Neotec 3 for around a month now. Very comfortable, but I agree with your comments about the condensation. It’s terrible. I’m going to try it without the chin curtain to see if that helps.
The color schemes are right out of the 90's, too bad.
All subjective I suppose like everything else in the bike world. I love the colour of mine. It’s also an amazing lid. 👌

On paper yes but it’s really deceiving. It feels very light to me.
Worst shoei I’ve had ,absolute crap ,so noisy it’s ridiculous and sun visors crap to light ,I would never buy one its better off in the skip

Well I must have a different version but my neotec 3 is brill but there again I’ve only been riding bikes since 1964 the first helmet was a kangol and lots between happy sixties and now. Well my take is different to yours I’m afraid, I give it four + stars. So negative comments don’t make it for me, it’s as quiet as any helmet I’ve had it’s on a par with my gt air so not much more I can say. Plus I’ve no tie up with Shoei or any shop/dealer
