  • Some companies embrace change. Others are stuck in the past. Morgan, it would seem, is somewhere in the middle. This is the Plus4 - a model which has been in production for decades. It looks and sounds fairly old school, but you can buy one brand new today.
Thanks to my friends at Bell & Colvill, I'm having a week driving several beautiful Morgan Motor Company vehicles, and this is the first.

In England there is not much to be proud of the last years. Except A Morgan. If I could chose between a Ferrari or a Morgan, I do not have to think 1 minut, a Morgan! It is the most beatiful car I know, I once visit the factory and the way they make those beatiful cars breaks your hart. Morgan is pure art.

I find it funny people on here saying 'it's a shame the ride is crap' or 'my friend bought one and this bit was rubbish'. I think Jay summed it up well, its for the person who wants a classic car without the hassle (unreliability, lack of parts) of a classic. If you want a car that handles well and is convenient, buy something designed this century! Maybe if you want a modern car in a classic body there is another model from Morgan - we will have to see in videos to come.

My boss bought one of these, after TVRs and the like. I loved the looks - inside and out it looked fantastic. He sold it soon after as it was just too crap - things like the ride and leaking roof were just really poor.

I was about five years of age when I saw a MG Roadster. Looked like a car from the 30's. The Morgan, first time seeing one , with my father, was in an " automobile show " in New York. Back then, you could purchase a Morgan kit. Assemble it at home. I was too young to drive. But the idea of buying a kit was interesting. My ,brought era, dream car was a Austen Healey 3000 . Never could afford one, but thinking about driving in rallies in one, British racing green, tan interior, wire wheels and the sweet exhaust sound.

I have a 06 Plus 4. The cars are not without faults and yep, they are not for everyone but I can honestly say its the best thing we ever bought. On a warm summers day, side screens off, blasting through country lanes with the engine playing a sweet tune is just fantastic. If you're on the fence about getting one, just do it. You're a long time dead :-)

Don't take this as a negative comment, because I really enjoyed this video and gave me a great insight into these cars. Classic styling with modern engineering is a great combo in my opinion! That being said, there are a lot of comments regarding the hard suspension, but you have to remember a few things here:
    - Country lanes here in the UK are like the Himalayas at the best of times. Not exactly like driving on a pristine F1 racetrack. Perhaps this particular car might be a better drive on the A-roads?
    - Being made of an ash (I think) frame and only being a small car, I would take an educated guess that Morgans are very light even by sports car standards. Part of the reason why big cars tend to seem to have more comfy suspension (even if its knackered) is the fact the very weight of the car stops it being flung into the air when you go over every bump in the road.
    - I'm fairly sure that if all of the above doesn't satisfy you, it is fairly straightforward with a bit of mechanic know-how to change or upgrade the suspension to something more preferable. Outstanding warranties notwithstanding of course! At the end of the day, there's plenty of people that change these kinds of things on cars all the time.
Thanks again for an informative video!

My Parents had a Morgan 4/4 4 seater years ago as a daily 1 car family for about 5 years.
We traveled the country with regular trips from Doncaster to London visiting family. It was a very reliable car (1.6 Ford cross flow)
It’s also the reason I’ve never owned a convertible!
If sat in the back (with no seatbelts!) You sit above the windscreen getting destroyed by whatever the elements decide to throw at you, Then cold and soaked to the skin you then go over a bump or hump back bridge and with the 6inch of side trims if it wasn’t for the luggage rack to cling onto with fear for my life you would bounce completely clear of the car! If I was lucky enough my parents would put the roof up which provided some protection with the metal roof frame being right above your head to help you bounce off back into the almost solid rear seat, unfortunately if it’s raining this forces the rain to run up the windscreen and under the roof soaking the people in the front seats so roof down and sodden child it is then!
I was lucky enough to drive the car before it was sold on and it was a great experience and I totally understand the appeal and fun factor they provide 😂👍

I've always had a bit of a soft spot for Morgans. I was expecting for this to be behave like a GT car, its a shame to see that the suspension and chassis are not really up to it. But as you say, being a bit crap is probably part of the experience.

    • @bonesshed.
      @bonesshed. 4 роки тому

A luggage rack is fitted over the spare wheel so you can have both. It attaches at the bumper or over riders and is then secured through the centre of the spare wheel. You can get two decent size bags behind the seats too, certainly enough for a few days away if you're canny with your packing :-) Check a couple of my vids.

I totally get it ..when I was a child in the 70's my parents owned a VW Beetle lovely sunburst Red and I remember a few times on A roads and motorways a Morgan would zoom past and they'd both shout "Morgan"! It was a thing y'know. Personally my go to fave car is a Ford Capri (mainly Mk 1 and Mk 3) and various engine sizes because of it's radical lines and the long bonnet + it's rear D windows the whole thing beauty to drive.
Although not me choice of car I'd still feel some pride driving one because of it's uniqueness + it's probably got a decent power to weight ratio looks lie it would enjoy a motorway I think it would be part of my collection if indeed I had the money etc and space to have a collection in the first place I'm all for character cars I guess (Mini, Beetle, Austin 1100, Minor, Capri , Cortina (a few Fords tbh) and I might even stretch to a Vauxhall Viva I'm going to see if there are any or many left
