Thanks Tim! What an entertaining video. Just bought a used 2023 MT-10SP that was traded-in at my local dealer with only 1100 miles on it and a 5 year Yamaha extended warranty (warranty paid for by previous and original owner). My test ride last week was a 90 minute rip on one of the best roads in Northern California and I can confidently say that your "not a review" is spot on. For the not so great, I will start by adding aftermarket brake pads for better initial bite, tires with a sharper profile and, raising the fork tubes slightly to make the turn in snappier. I already have a 2021 MT-09SP and that now needs a new home. Both bikes are really something. Love your channel.
I bought my 23 MT-10 in January, largely because of your enthusiasm towards the machine. I've been riding it around Bay Area, California (SF area) and haven't regretted a single second. Absolutely brilliant bike. Comfortable, fast and delicious sounding. I dropped my front down by 10mm and it changed how it turns-in significantly. Much like my old 1999 Honda VFR, I'll never sell it.

Of course, the 10 is even more fun and crazy, and arguably better for real fast riding (better feel from the front, mainly). I don't regret my choice, because with the money saved, I was able to purchase new riding gear and went to the track... where I found that the standard 09 is fine but lacks weight on the front... and a lot of power in the straight. Now that the dust has settled a little, I think the MT10 would suit me better, and I really wish that there will be a new one with similar dash and switchgear to the 09, plus the absolutely fabulous new quickshifter (it's insane, especially on track)... and Stylemas. I was vehemently opposed to the looks when the gen 2 came out, but these bikes look way better in the flesh and in the end I bought one, and haven’t regretted a single second. It’s a thrill to ride, every time, and I have done many 800km days on it with no worries at all. A full system and tune is a must, as are proper brake pads.
Great video and can really feel your love of this machine. This is my problem.. I have a S1000RR Gen 4 and bloody love it BUT, I’m super unlikely to simply jump on it and ride during winter whereas I can absolutely see myself doing it in the 10SP. The Aprilia equivalent is too special whereas the 10SP looks like a bike that is there just to jump on and ride. I had a GSXS1000 a while back and probably the most unfashionable bike I’ve ever owned but I still miss the comfy super naked silliness of that bike compared to the seriousness of the adventure, sports etc bikes.. there is something about a super naked which doesn’t seem to care whatever anyone else thinks and is just there to be ridden wherever and whenever you choose. Im not sure of the ergonomics but it looks comfy and goes like stink. Shame about the small tank but not a show stopper. My RR is a very pretty bike and the 10SP is def not but so what, isn’t that the point. Just jump on and ride. Bikes for me are all about how they make you feel when you ride them so I may need to take the leap. Keep up the good work fella
So I’ve now made the leap. The RR is up for sale and I’m now the proud owner of a 23 10MT and I’m loving it. It’s a ridiculously fun ride to bike all the time. If you’re thinking of buying one and question the looks and the tank range, don’t waste your time worrying about those because they are minor detail compared the fun you will have..
I get what you’re saying about Yamaha and the “playful” nature of their engines, on your recommendation 😉 I purchase the Tracer 9 GT+, stuck a short screen on it, hung the bags on the wall of the garage, and have been having a blast with it 🤪. Now let’s talk about the insanity of insurance providers…..I’ve been with the same company for 46 years, purchased a KTM SDR EVO, it spent more than time in the dealers shop for random codes than in my own garage, dumped it and purchased a Suzuki Katana…..which cost more to insure than the Super Duke 😳 WTH 🤨! (PS: You’re not a nob 😆👍.)
I have the 23 standard version with the LeoVince 3/4 pipe and the LV10 muffler with a tune, and now making it 160 to the wheel when it was dyno’d. I’d love to have the Tuono but cost and maintenance is pricey so I opted with my bike and don’t regret it. The mid range over 6000 rpm is an animal when you open that throttle. Lift control on one, least restrictive. Even if I had the money she’d be in my stall.
For sharper turn in, just lower the triple tree to the 3rd ring on the fork leg! It's just a few bolts and makes the MT-10 feel much more agile. If you want to take it another step further, use more "V" shaped tires like the Pirelli Rosso 4 which is still a road friendly tire like the S23 but has much better tip in. And if you want to take it up another notch, use a 200/60 tire on the rear. The 60 profile will raise the rear and put the MT-10 more on its nose similar to the Ducati streetfighter.
knob!, loved this video, I'm not the biggest fan of yamaha, and you meet the nicest people on a Honda, but you made me seriously consider testing one of these
Loved this vid, Tim. I think you’re right about the current crop of Yamahas being alot of fun and a bit naughty. I just acquired a 900GP as part of my campaign to grow old disgracefully, and so far it’s working well!
great video.. excellent review, simple but touching what really matters on this MT10.. good job mate! Now.. what type of audio set up you use to record these videos?? it sounds really good and clear. Thanks
Fantastic update on your bike and love all of the sincere thoughts and opinions! S scribed of course but damn You tube had not been service your channel up to me! Notifications are on! I am 6’ 1” and weigh about 203 lbs and have longer arms as well so great to hear that the bike “fits”.
If you chopped me in half, it would say YAMAHA straight through me. However I am on my second Superduke R thanks to scroat bike thieves in Brighton. I leave mine in track mode and deal with it, hankering for an old R1 these days with all the govt. tracking on modern vehicles. I look forward to seeing the results of your upgrades, ps. my old Ninja 12 had 186 at the back wheel, Y reg. great video Tim
A face only a mother could love... Great sound tho! But Tuono V4 Factory 1100 is on another level, visually and performance wise. Nothing can touch Aprilia chassis!
Looks are totally subjective. I personally never liked the face of the Tuono, new or old. They do sound the best though. A decatted MT-10 is a close 2nd.
@@anxiousappliancehaha I own an rsv4 and, well, what can I say you're right 😅 I'd still not have it any other way, the way that bike makes you feel is unlike anything else. And, mind you, the posture has me crying after riding in traffic for 20 minutes.
That's very surprising to hear from you mate, that it's your favourite. It looks pretty unremarkable in specs and design. Really the only noteable thing about it that keeps coming up in reviews is the sound. Maybe I'll have to try one :)
Hello Tim, I follow your channel from Spain, Thanks for your videos. I actually have a Superduke GT 23’ and I would like to try the mt10 and the new Superduke. Which one of them would you prefer as a bike for everyday? Do you think the mt10 is as fun and effective as the GT? Thank you very much for a great job
Hi Tim I had the first gen MT10 and I put a Leo Vince link pipe with akrapovic end can with baffle and it was a lovely noise, now way too loud and great for touring, the power was far better and smoother after a re map.
For me, the only thing I didn’t like about this version of the MT10 was the shape and ergonomics of the handlebars. Other than that, it’s pretty amazing 😎👍🏻
Hi Tim here, i had the gen 1 MT10sp and it was truly fantastic. I think i still prefer the gen 1 looks but that wouldn’t stop me getting a gen 2. Buying a Diavel V4 is the reason i don’t have an MT10 and you totally correct and Yamaha making the most characterful motors, I think back to the RD350ypvs there nothing else like it on the road, try one now.
I have pretty much the same motorcycle but to be honest decat pipe is must have upgrade, even on stock muffler. Leo vince sound blow my mind and I love my MT-10SP gen2. great story, great video
One thing with Yam's the reliability, some i have owned which are like a piece of jewellery but you have to put the bus fair in your pocket to get home!
Dude you are hilarious! 😂🤣 The little witty comments tucked in everywhere are fantastic. But I can't understand why someone would want to own a liter bike for touring. So much unnecessary and unusable power...
I have the current Tracer GT+ and the only thing's I don't like is the front brakes. Plus it tips in with the steering a bit and I don't understand why but other than that I love it!
Put KTM 250 exc handle bars slightly lower and wider,,but you seem to really like your bike,,all the very best with it 😉,, from northern Ireland ☘️☘️☘️👍👍👍👍
After years of riding gs's I bought a tracer gt. Is a bit of a hooligan, but also massively practical. It's starting to get under my skin. It's also great to be on 17s again. Could do with a softer seat...
Tim, have you considered putting Hell calipers on yours as an upgrade? Them and some good quality pads I dare say would improve feel and braking power massively.
Really wonderful looking bike but I've never gotten used to, or grown fond of, the sound of the uneven firing order of a cross plane four. I know that many really love that sound; it's just not for me. I am however, totally intoxicated with the sound of the MT-09 SP CP-3, the Triumph 765 RS Street Triple, the 1200 RS Speed Triple, and even, the Trident 660. Can you tell I like triples? 😂 I also like the sound of flat plane fours and twins with 360 degree cranks.
In your next video after the decat and tune, please highlight the differences in fuel economy. I got a ‘23 SP in January, zero miles and I’m getting around 40mpg riding two up mostly, still stock. I’d like to do a tune and decat but I’m afraid of how much of a hit I’d take if n fuel economy in the different modes. The bike is massively fun and mpg’s aren’t whats it’s about, but it is a question I’ve had and no one has covered it very well post tune. Cheers!
Same general niggles with my Gen 1 MT10, my Speed Triple 1050RS was sharper around corners but never leant itself to doing more than being a fun naked beast. The MT10 does it all for me. Biggest niggle is the twitchy throttle in B mode but I just leave that mode for the odd mad moment. Also looking at changing the colour of the wheels this winter, not so hot on the mucky looking vomit yellow.
Probably push your triple tree down by 3mm, or even more, to make the handling sharper? My rsv4 was also a bit of a pig to turn. But a few small geometry changes and a suspension setup later, it is perfect.
I agree with everything you said Tim, I love mine. MT-10 SP Top Trumps. I believe mine was the first customer delivery in the UK. October 2022?? I've now done 18k miles, I might need to get a second one :D Looking forward to what you do with the exnaust and map. Mine is still stock and i'm itching to get it decated but you know what the Deutche old bill can be like. That's whats stopped me so far.
@@mikejgriffiths I think mine was registered August 22… it’s the one in this video which was posted early Sept 22! @@timrodierides Damn! :D I did take my Tuono V4 factory with full Akra decat to Germany several times and never had a problem so maybe I'm being a bit of a fanny. However everytime I encountered Polizei I had a little sphincter moment. Let's see what you get up to. It may push me to get it done. Oh and fuel consumption between the Tuono and Mt-10 is comparable.
I just rode a 2022 MT-10 SP and the bike's reluctance to turn-in hit me like a kick to the guts. It is the biggest surprise and disappointment of the bike. I put a deposit on it and will talk with my suspension guy, who also has a 10 SP, about how to fix it. If it cannot be fixed I won't buy the bike. I love everything else about the bike and there is no reason why this bike shouldn't turn in effortlessly like the R1 whose chassis and engine it is built upon.
Hi Tim You’re a knob! There you go got that out of the way first 😂 could I possibly pick your brains about 2 things? European breakdown cover and insurance. I have a gen 1 tiger 1200 which is perfect for touring but… the longest trip I’ve ever done was when I bought it near Ipswich and rode it back up to the north west. Your touring videos make me want to go but 😱
i think ive always avoided the mt bikes because i got fed up with hearing how great they are!im warming to them now after having a gen3 sdr.maybe i'll try one out?for now im happy on the new tiger 900rp.
I test rode the mt-10 at a r festival this year. Lovely bike and very powerful (I have a 1200 gs) but very much a hooligan bike that wants to be in the high rev range which, as you say, is the danger zone for speed. Also it was very firm vs the gs and a little uncomfortable during the test. Probably wouldnt get one but I can see the appeal
2019 MT10 sp with 32000 miles. It’s started a poor throttle response, then gradually got worse with miss-firing, and poor fueling up to 6000 revs, then clears and pulls cleanly from there. I’ve changed filters, plugs, checked cleaned fuel pumps, lines and the injectors. I’ve owned the bike since 27000 miles so I don’t know if the valve clearances really need doing. Just they’re a real pig to get at and set on this bike. More details on that tuner you mentioned your going too from colchester would be great. What do they do to the crank and the costs ? Maybe it would be a good idea if I let them do the valve clearances while it’s there having the fueling etc remapped. Any help. Cheers.
I get what you’re saying with the insurance. I’m currently in the market for a super naked and the one I really, really want is the Tuono V4 factory but the insurance is stratospheric to the tune of £4500 per year! The MT10? £600. The Speed Triple 1200 is also reasonable at around £700 per year. Try as I may, I just don’t understand the pricing. Also using the comparison sites, the Tuono V4 RR is more expensive to insure than the Factory!? Work that out if you can!
Good videos pal always gives a chuckle ! Too many hero’s in the supernaked world… I’d like to really see if a tuono could really pull away from you I very much doubt it ! Yamaha reliability and build quality, nice bit of kit. I’m not a fan of the looks … I don’t think, it’s like looking at a ladyboy…. is it nice, is it 😅😅😅
I just got a 2024 MT09-SP - used to be a supersport bike rider so the new sporty position of the MT09 is my gateway into more comfortable naked bikes and I have to say, I've never been happier on 2 wheels. My next bike will probably be the MT10-SP but not for a few years at least, not until Yamaha make it a bit more attractive! I also currently prefer the sound of the CP3, the CP4 never appealed to me as I always liked screaming inline 4's growing up! I'm sure I'll get there eventually though 😂
Good review , i was hoping you would take a seat on it to see the ergo's especially with the camera being in perfect position . Im 6'1 and the bike looks rather small like so many others which is a turn off . I hate being cramped
Sorry - forgot to show that. I'm 6'3" and it fits me perfectly - I've done 500-mile days on it and other than the seat it's very comfortable. You'd be fine I reckon - it's a size up from the MT09.
Had one of the first MT-10s. Loved it but could never get with it. Motor, amazing. Felt like I was sitting on the bike, not in it (which I prefer). The brakes were abysmal. Never gelled with it, despite loving the character of it.
Hearing that! Whilst I test rode the first MT10's, stock and SP, they were just too unrideable on tight roads as they were too harsh. The CP2 and CP3 were a much better option for everyday riding. And the CP3 had it's moments! Now I'm not one to moan about throttle response as I own everything from a single to a near 2l V twin so sometimes peoples view of 'snatchiness' is just really good engine braking, but the 1st MT10 was a shocker. I now own a CP2 and a CP4, a new 10 which is fantastic throttle wise.
Been there with the 1290 starting. Went to a lithium battery with more juice, et voila, problem magically solved. KTM under-spec’d the batteries in those things. Ridiculous.
I really wanted a 2023 MT-10 SP, truly amazing engine, but the design and the only available color scheme is bad, the front brake must be upgraded for more spirited riding, so I chose a different brand.

If you want reliability you go japanese, if you want European made fun bikes for a short time you buy KTM/Husqvarna/GasGas...

Wheelie machine. Love mine. The noise is addictive. Changed to a 43t rear sprocket. Wheelies even better 👌🏻
What brake pads are you running? Glad you’re enjoying it!
Looks good with that touring screen and belly pan.
Great review ! 👌😎👍
Love the Music coming off the tail pipe !
With a tune and mods nothing can beat it😊
STOP tempting me to try one of these again!
‘…that, for once, isn’t for felching.’
Splendid, I spat my tea over my toast.
Great summary you knob let’s all be knobs together your touring vids are ace looking forward to more hp 👌
Haha thanks top knob!
Couldn't agree more with character comments. All Yams have a seat of the pants "x" factor not on the spec sheet ❤
best engine ever 👍🏻and reliable .you get to your destination👍🏻💪🏻👌🏻
For sharper turn in, just lower the triple tree to the 3rd ring on the fork leg! It's just a few bolts and makes the MT-10 feel much more agile.
If you want to take it another step further, use more "V" shaped tires like the Pirelli Rosso 4 which is still a road friendly tire like the S23 but has much better tip in.
And if you want to take it up another notch, use a 200/60 tire on the rear. The 60 profile will raise the rear and put the MT-10 more on its nose similar to the Ducati streetfighter.
How many km you run the Pirelli? You are happy with your bike? I’m currently riding the r1250r but thinking to change to the Mt10sp 😁
One of the best bike reviewer on YT. I now fancy one of these 😬
You're far too kind. They're great bikes!
knob!, loved this video, I'm not the biggest fan of yamaha, and you meet the nicest people on a Honda, but you made me seriously consider testing one of these
Loved this vid, Tim.
Great bike & great review.
Im lucky to own 3 bikes. S1000rr,mt10 gsxr750 slingshot. The mt 10 is my go to for everyday use. Love the sound..
21:59 hears word for first time, goes to look it up🤯🤢. WTF. Great video as usual.
I think repair guys touch the chassis as they try to find out why the thing won't run. LOL
Looks are totally subjective. I personally never liked the face of the Tuono, new or old. They do sound the best though. A decatted MT-10 is a close 2nd.
@@anxiousappliance Oh, another Aprilia hater in the feed 😂
@@anxiousappliancehaha I own an rsv4 and, well, what can I say you're right 😅 I'd still not have it any other way, the way that bike makes you feel is unlike anything else. And, mind you, the posture has me crying after riding in traffic for 20 minutes.

That windscreen really fixes the look of the bike! Looks way better for what i know it otherwise basically the perfect machine.
Interesting! As an aesthetically-blind person I hadn't really considered how it changed the looks really
Can't wait for your next trip!
Me neither!
Yayyyy, I LOVE that you love it :)
Thanks bbz!
I recently test drove a 2024 non sp mod and that comes equipped with 3rd gen quickshifter!
Yeah Id like to find out if I could eventually get the 3rd gen qs on my 23 without much hassle or computer adjustments.
Awesome update - I can't wait to hear about it after it's visited Seton for a bit of jiggery pokery😊
Hi Tim
I had the first gen MT10 and I put a Leo Vince link pipe with akrapovic end can with baffle and it was a lovely noise, now way too loud and great for touring, the power was far better and smoother after a re map.
For me, the only thing I didn’t like about this version of the MT10 was the shape and ergonomics of the handlebars. Other than that, it’s pretty amazing 😎👍🏻
The exact same reasons I bought my 2nd MT-10. The most fun for the money by a long shot.
The little witty comments tucked in everywhere are fantastic.
But I can't understand why someone would want to own a liter bike for touring. So much unnecessary and unusable power...
Love my 1290 R, even for touring. But it’s pricey, but at least insurable in Switzerland.
I'm on an MT07 and love it but definitely looking for a bigger bike to tour on. It's a fun bike on the streets but highways kill it
I have the current Tracer GT+ and the only thing's I don't like is the front brakes. Plus it tips in with the steering a bit and I don't understand why but other than that I love it!
Great, where did you get the touring screen? Thanks. It protects the chest a lot, so you suffer less back pain.
I know what you mean about the Polizei, but I was in Germany earlier this year and there were lots of insanely antisocial bikes getting away with it! I don’t want it to be deafening. ua-cam.com/video/vlTX5B6-jig/v-deo.htmlsi=yWly8eVVl4FBQvjX
Hi Tim
You’re a knob!
Is it all more positive than the 1290 SAS? Torque and power is nearly the same ? Regards
Will I fit on this being 6f 2 and 18 stone. Looks a really nice bike.
There’s a stretch of highway in Utah where this bike can barely make it between two of the gas stations.
I'm afraid the new MT10 will have the automatic gearbox like the next MT09 🫤
It will be optional
Yeah, what's all this automatic bollox all about. Nobeadz!
Just bought a multi v4s me after trying numerous bikes the things just epic other than how thirsty it is
Yeah there is nothing that sounds like it. Closest is a Tuono Factory but otherwise…. Nothing. Cool video.
Why didn't you go for the Ducati Diavel V4 or the older V2 gen?
“It’s France it doesn’t matter.” 😂😂😂
I've 'old manned' this. I better see you getting on this by standing on the peg pls pls pls haha

Nope, mine doesn’t!
@@timrodierides Nice one mate thought they were all like that ? good to know will try and find a straight one lol
On paper i like the Tuono more, but I'd still take the Yamaha to have an hassle free ownership tbh.
