Europeans (and British lol) are lucky. You can jump on your bike and travel through stunning scenery and experience a number of different cultures on an 8 hr ride. As an Australian, I can ride 1000 miles and still be in the same state haha. As usual, fantastic video.
Of course you can tour on any Motorbike! 2 years ago I rode with my son from the UK through France, Belgium, Germany to the Austrian alps and back him on a Panigale V4 and me on a CBR650R This year we’re catching the ferry to Santander then touring down to the Algarve in Portugal for WSBK at Portimao and then back Him on Panigale V4SP2 me on a Panigale V2! Some Kreiga tailbacks for luggage and fun fun fun!
I truly enjoy your road trips with historic stops thrown in 😃👍! Tour on a standard bike ? Why not ?! I did it for 25 years until I bought my first “real” sport touring bike in 2000, can’t say that it made the trips any better, but I thought I was impressive 😆😆😆!
Looks good fun The first thing I thought of when i saw the bridge was sydney harbour Bridge 🤣 ( think o may have to see sights out of Australia lol). Very interesting history about the bridge 👍🏻 Always wanted to do nurburgring 👍🏻 and also thumbs up for mentioning swift sport 🤣👍🏻
Loved watching that. After a bit it was clear you were having too much fun so I had to stop and get out for a ride myself, just not in Germany sadly. Then finished it off. Hope that doesn’t mess with the algorithms. Very much looking forward to the next episode. Cheers
I don't really - I just plan things on google maps beforehand and link up towns I know. Not very helpful, sorry - but I've tried to call out the best road names in the video
@@timrodieridesthanks for the reply. That’s exactly how I plan my rides too, good old google maps..spent many an hour zooming in looking for great biking roads wherever I ride. If you ever come over to N Ireland look me up, there are a lot of cracker biking roads like this well away from the eyes of the law where you can really give them some. But ya need to know where to find them lol
Always enjoy your vids (especially the touring ones and war stuff). I've always hankered after an MT-10 but was concerned about the small tank range....How many miles were you getting on average to a tank full?
120 motorway miles to a fuel light, about 100 on back roads. I stop every 100-110 miles when touring anyway so it was genuinely no different to touring on my old 1290 Super Adventure!
So Tim We're heading to Edersee at the end of June and was going to do the usual head south to Maubeuge, dinant, Spa but your route looks interesting. Any chance of the GPX? ✋Oh and I concur, the MT-10 SP does a proper job at touring. Including lots of exposure to European fuel stations :D
I haven't got a GPX handy really - I just got off the motorway at Maubeuge and headed to Bouillon. I'd probably stay on the autoroute a bit longer next time, maybe getting off just before Charleville Mezieres...
@@timrodierides Ahhh good old Maubeuge the gateway to, well, everything really :D/ Cheers Tim looking forward to seeing how the rest of your trip on the MT goes 👍
Thank you for bringing such great fun and exciting content. Right now I own a 2023 MT-10 and Ive had my license for 20+ years but Ive never toured. When I watched this I really started thinking about going exploring some smaller EU trips however the fuel range of these bikes is what worries me. How did you plan the ride? Did you route this trip manually with 30+ fuel stops or is the XT2 able to help you out with some smart auto routing including fuel stops every 200km? Cant wait for ep2 of this trip :) Greetings from Sweden!
The range is fine! 120 miles to the fuel light on motorway trips. 100 miles on backroads. I tend to stop every 200km no matter what bike I’m on so it wasn’t a problem! Whenever I got close to 200km I just used the Garmin to find a petrol station near my route. No stress!
@@timrodierides Thanks 🙏 I forgot to ask what your impressions are on the roadtec 02’s longevity? Think they will last 10,000km riding normal/some fun here and there? I am getting 5000km out of the S22 and close to showing threads in the middle..

Hey - looking forward to the next video. 2 random questions: 1- did you consider BMW S1000R for buying? 2- if yes, what made you settle with MT10SP over the Beemer?
Hello! Thanks! I didn't consider the S1000R when I bought my MT-10. The MT-10's engine has a more exciting mid-range, makes a far better noise (one of the best-sounding engines in biking in my opinion), it was cheaper to insure, comfier and I got a really good deal on it. The S1000R's probably a tiny bit faster, has better brakes and uses less fuel… but it just doesn't have the 'character' of the Yamaha in my book.
Really good. Will do a full review soon, but I've done 2k miles in a month, mostly on this trip. They took a little while to scrub in, but I had complete confident in them on this trip riding as hard as I felt comfortable on public roads. It lashed it down on the last day and they felt incredible in the wet, super surefooted. My mate Carl at MCN has a set on his MT09 long-term bike and he's done a lot of wet riding on them and is very impressed. No squaring off on mine yet, and they felt planted at a GPS 153mph!
Honestly I can't really be bothered with the potential agro now. But that said we saw so many bikes in Germany with louder-than-standard exhausts so perhaps I'm just being paranoid…
Full review coming soon! 2000 miles in so far with them this month and I’m very impressed. Excellent (really astonishing) wet grip and so good in the dry while riding like a bit of a nob.
Hey Tim, great content! I’m looking at changing my bike, use it for general riding, touring Europe general fun. I’m not really into or have the legs for adventure bikes lol. Coming off a fireblade, want some comfort! Like the MT10sp and the s1000r. Both you have toured, which do you prefer?
I've toured on the MT10SP and the M1000R (not the S1000R). M1000R was vibey, uncomfortable in the seat and had low bars… and not that fun at road speeds. The MT10 is way comfier, has stacks more mid-range, makes a better noise, is more affordable. I bought the Yamaha!
Hey, thanks for the reply! Ah yes I meant the m1000r, the one that killed your satnav. I think the MT is defo my preferred option too, greatful for your thoughts. Again great content, enjoying all the war stuff too. Makes me wanna your more! Safe riding 👍🏻
Just clicked on this video and I absolutely loved my old MT10. But I can’t imagine touring on a bike which gets so few miles to a tank, it must be a nightmare? 😮
Not really! It does 120 miles to the fuel light at a fast motorway cruise. About 90/100 miles when you’re thrashing it. I tend to fill up every 110 miles anyway when touring regardless of bike!
@@timrodierides So it hasn't changed from the 1st Gen MT-10 I had. 110 miles is rubbish - I get 180 miles from my Super Duke GT when thrashing, and the torque and engine is even more mental. Shame, I liked the 1st Gen MT, apart from the hideous seat comfort (looks like they may have addressed that, and the tank range.
@@westers1514 yeah tank range isn’t its strong point. Even with the comfort seat it wasn’t super comfy, but totally bearable. I never got on with the SDGT, I’m the wrong shape/size for it - much prefer the R!
It's for trackdays - in the UK you need a brake lever guard to stop another rider bashing your front brake lever by accident and making you crash (not sure how you'd ever get that close but hey!). If someone smacks your clutch lever it won't make you instantly crash.

Great vid! Love the Belgian Ardennes... lovely scenery, cracking roads, pretty towns and excellent beer. What's not to like? 😁👍
Brilliant video, thank you. I'm looking forward to doing this trip on my old ZZR 1200 in early September....
Thanks for the kind comment! Have fun, I’ll be back out there in September… hopefully the rain will have stopped!
Love how Tim got one of those rare MT10's that only has 2 gears. First to take off and then 2nd for everything else.
Hahahah. I did use third. And sixth. I think there's some weight-saving potential there, I'll let Yamaha know.
Fabulous video. I'll be doing roughly this route in a couple of months on my Z-H2 🙂
Thank you! Have fun. I'm yet to ride one of those but do fancy a go. Should probably email Kawasaki…
