@@marksmith8663 had a 2017 SD that I rode like a rental car, trading it in after 13k miles. Only issue was an ECU failure code. Disconnected the battery for a few minutes and it went away. I traded it for a 2021 890R Duke. Zero mechanical issues with either, just the same fault, that resets. My wife has a 2022 MT09SP. It’s a fantastic bike, produces the same numbers as my bike but they are different animals. The orange bike is only a few pounds lighter, but feels like a lot less. Believe too many get information from hearsay, not so much real life experience. Most major manufacturers make really good bikes these days.
The Super Duke in track mode with traction control set to 1 and the wheelie control OFF is still a very rideable bike but it becomes considerably quicker. The wheelie control etc. does hold the bike back a fair bit. I bought the Evo and don't regret it, because it sets up the proper sags on its own and the bike never, ever feels like it needs attention, it's just ready to go at all times. Great review. Looks like you had great fun. I've got a Superduke R and I can't stop smiling when I ride it. I've tried a few MT-10's and they didn't really give me the fizz. I'm surprised at Choppsie as you loved your SDR's. I think Greg should take over the channel. 😉
I've owned both of these bikes in their standard form (without the electronic suspension). 2023 MT10 is my current bike and benefits from probably the most characterful and dynamic engine ever created. Agree with your verdict re the KTM, think it's absolutely the best all around performing naked, but it's so good, you need to be doing silly speeds for it to make sense. Downside is KTM reliability, hence why I have my second MT10. MT10 suspension is set a fraction hard for the road from the factory, but dialling out is easy and a decent set up can be achieved for road or track. KTM definitely has the most compliant suspension along with the best brakes and lives on UK roads well. I've bough my second MT10 (after stacking up all of the options) because it has that engine and is all day and even touring comfortable (when fitted with comfort seat), handles just about perfectly on the road (and decent if not the best on track), is as fast as anything to 140mph, has typical Japanese reliability and you can have enough spare cash for a year's worth of track days with the money saved against the SDR. Reliability is unfortunately the KTM's sticking point (but they are great when they're working) and from experience, I won't be buying another. Further points relating to the Yamaha comfort seat. First and foremost, it is bloody comfortable but also sits the rider roughly 1.5 inches higher. This improves leg room and also places a tad more weight over the bars, improving front end feel and strangely resulting in a sportier riding position. It's a double whammy and the one MT10 accessory I'd recommend over any other. Cheers.
It was a good read, can you please explain what went wrong with KTM because after spending more than year deciding what bike i am getting, my list was including Ducati SFV4, Ninja ZH2 and MT10 and so far the new 2024 KTM stole my heart, your feedback would really appreciated.
Hi Tim. The KTM is superb when it's all working correctly. I suffered the screen going down, MTC warning lights on a brand new bike where the fault couldn't be diagnosed and which ultimately couldn't be resolved (the dealer swapped the bike). Cables rub and chafe through around the headstock causing further fault codes and finally, the bike would sometimes recognise the fob for the keyless start and other times it wouldn't even when placed against the receiver unit. Conversely, my new Yamaha MT10 has now covered 4k miles since June this year and has been 100%. Put the key in and it starts first time every time, doesn't use oil and has never had a warning light displayed. More fun than the KTM, but possibly because it's not quite as good in a few areas, so you need to be on your game and work a bit harder to get the most out of it. I ride my bikes hard, I'm not a nutter, but they do get properly used and the KTM makes everything so easy. You need to be doing something silly to upset it and the only thing to criticise is the OEM steering damper which appears to have little to no damping at the very initial part of the movement. I think it's mechanically quite solid and most of the issues appear to be electrical. I hear there are some that don't have issues and others become a nightmare, but I can only speak from my personal experience. Hope this helps.
@@Tig-Boy I absolutely appreciate your feedback sir, you helped and made me sure that superduke is what i need, regarding the electrical issues i am gonna pray that the new 1390 is reliable and bulletproof, i just can’t swallow the MT 10 look no matter how good it rides, i hope they change the look in the next upgrade. Thanks a lot fir your feedback.
I love the riding dynamics of KTM, but the well documented reliability niggles are a concern for long term buyers. I prefer riding my motorcycle to getting taxis while my KTM is back at the dealers getting fixed. Again.
I rode a 890 Duke R and the bike was already having mechanical issues. Had to pull over while the other riders went on. Immediately got a USED mt10. Could not be happier
Great review....super fun.....and even better banter. Mind you, I still haven't a clue which one I'd have in the garage, given half the chance! Take care and thanks again for another excellent upload.
Wait a minute dear oh dear! The sd tops out in 2nd at 125km/hr or so and the mt10 does exactly than on 1st. On 2nd the mt10 tops at around 150km/hr. So what is the point on doing roll-ons using the same gear on both bikes? This applies to many such comparisons on your videos. Otherwise, very entertaining as usually and thanks a lot for your energy and effort. I am a subscriber since day 1 😊
I have watched you for a long time. Just starting to feel you are being careful not to upset the manufacturers. Still good content but a shame its heading like some of the others I used to watch and stopped. But I'm still watching so can't be to bad. Just my personal opinion of course.
Kind of hard to review bikes it you say what the manufacturer doesn’t want to hear, you gotta play the game. The only unbiased reviews are from people who bought the bikes with their own money. Much more trustworthy, they’ll either sing its praises if it’s good or say how crap it is and how unhappy they are. Never take the word of an influencer at face value.
I purchased the SDR evo, 1000 miles and it’s great to ride on the b road twisties, in fact this is where it should live. It’s not really good for much else, track stuff would be fun. The elephant in the room is the reliability, mine has already thrown up numerous electrical faults and has a failed preloaded which after only 1000 miles is shocking. It’s on its last chance as far as I’m concerned, The dealer said they can fix the constant MTC failure fault and if not it will be going back. After coming from trouble free Yamaha and Honda for the last 5 years my first foray into KTM has not been great. I see KTM are offering 4 yrs warranty now on 2023 bikes which in all honestly you def need if buying one.
Coming from the 2020 Tuono the choice was easy peasy - MT-10. It's not a Playboy centerfold bike looks wise, but it beats the KTM hands down IMO. I can't get my head around the origami Mantis look of the KTM. Also, judging by friends bikes it's a coin toss whether you get one that passed quality control, in which case they're quite nice, or a one that didn't and you end up spending your riding season with the bike at the dealer's garage getting fixed half of the time. Also, in Sweden the KTM cost way more to insure which just nails the coffin lid shut. EDIT: And i just plain *will not* pay a penny to get features already on a bike "unlocked" I find that appaling to be honest. Cheers for another nice vid guys!
I have the SDR. No major niggles with it yet. Looks wise I think it looks like a stealth fighter jet, with the angular design. The MT, to me looks like that transformer, Bumblebee.
A lot of amazing videos coming out from Lambchops lately, keep if up Chopsy! You and Greg, a combo which made this channel even better than it was. I remember when the MT-10 first came out 2016, back then reviewers barely had it in videos when they compared super/hyper nakeds, they did not even count the MT-10 as a super/hypernaked. It is a whole other story today, today the MT-10 is competing with the best. I actually chose the MT-10 over the Super Duke 2019 when I bought the MT-10. If only the MT-10 had a more aggressive riding position I would love it to death, such an amazing bike and it has the best sound together with the Tuono V4 compared to all other bikes
@mathias6423 You again! I agree dude they should make the mt10sp more aggressive like they do with m1000r compared to s1000r from bmw. Imagine if the mt10sp had those lower bars and maybe a little more power in the engine like the m1000r. then the mt10sp would be my dreambike.
@@anderssvensson1815 Yeah, I love the BMW M1000R. For me it has the best riding position out of every naked bike out there, also the top end is INSANE. Yeah that kind of riding position on the MT-10 would be something else man
Just bought the SDR Evo and it was a choice between this and the MT10 SP. In the end it was the current deals on offer from KTM that swung it. To ride I loved both and both have unique looks. £3000 off and 4.9% APR PCP for KTM verses no real discount and 9.9% APR on Yam. Made the monthly difference significantly in favour of the SDR despite its higher list price
They might be a reason for the discount….thankfully you got it on pcp and can hand it back. They seem to have lots of problems, with at least 2 people having to hand them back due to persisting electrical problems.
I have owned a lot of bikes, almost embarrassingly so. I recently owned a 2019 MT10 and it was an excellent machine but after living with it for a while I started to notice the budget items that began to annoy me. The dodgy cable clutch, ok quality switch gear etc. All acceptable but could have been better. Hopefully this SP model addresses some of that. I ended up buying a 2022 SD Evo, once I addressed ergos, moved the bars back etc. it fit perfectly. I never judge a bike until it has broken in and my body gets used to it and after living with the KTM not only do I think it is a better machine than the MT10 (Non SP) It could be the best motorcycle I have ever owned. I am sure the SP is a great machine but man, no way is it even close to how refined and almost perfect that the KTM is. It's always a matter of opinion but the over ruling factor for me on any machine is simply smile factor and the SD is in a league of its own for that. I am a huge Ducati fan and have 3 but I think the SD trumps them all. I cannot recommend the SD Evo enough!
I think a lot of us have recently been torn between these two... I was coming off an S1000RR, so I ended up with the SDR because the twin seemed a nice change from the inline 4. I did shift the handlebars to the rear position on the SDR, it's like a 20mm difference but it feels a lot better. Otherwise I think both bikes are brilliant!
I will say, of all the bikes I've owned, the SDR has gotten the most comments from bystanders. Maybe it's a US thing because KTM street bikes in general here are more rare, but it does feel like a bit of exotica.
I’m a 2020 SDR owner. Only two problems I had (one was my doing) was the gear shifter lever came loose of the shift shaft spline. I put the strongest loktie on it and re-torqued it down… no problems since. Other issue was after I washed the bike, I must have gotten water in the left handlebar button module and the enter button stopped working. $600 for a new one. Lesson… don’t spray water at the handlebar. Enjoy the SDR!
The main issue I found with owning large capacity, high performance bikes is usability. Unless you do track days, you can’t use even a third of the performance without doing your licence and winding up before the beak or both. Mid-rangers still have very good performance. Insurance and rego are less expensive. A Triumph 750 Speed Triple would do me . I think it exists. I don’t think you can beat the orange, appearance wise. For me the KTM Super Duke wins hands down in terms of looks and performance. The Yamaha looks like it needs to lose some bulk and weight.
The low down grunt on the 1290's is the winner. Powering out of bends without waiting for it to spool up is what gaps people on other bikes. Do that bend after bend and you ease away. Having the instant power and instant shut downof power/engine braking means you have so much control with just the throttle. 👌
I can’t speak for the MT10 but the Superduke is probably the most usable Hypernaked there is. All the crazy grunt is delivered instantly. I got rid of the Tuono 1100factory because it was just too good at getting to triple figures without allowing me to satisfy that urge. I own a Gen 2 Superduke and it’s the best bike I’ve ridden other than the Gen 3.
Pull the forks through the yolks 10mm and turn the bar risers 180 degrees (bars 10mm forward from standard) and the MT feels much better! Fit different risers that lower the bars 10mm from standard as well as 10mm forward from standard and it is better again. As for that special something, it's most likely the Crossplane engine, or the sound at least... It's got the Tuono-esque sound but with reliability...
I've always said it, 'There is no such thing as too much power'. I agree with you about the keyless issue, what a stupid idea, I've ridden home loads of times with the key in the back seat slot, luckily it hasn't fallen out yet. Yamaha ergos have always been brilliant, Wales and back in a day from London used to be easy on my old R1, unfortunately KTM have turned up and moved the goalposts. My 1290 R is the most fun bike Ive had. Looking forward to a Rocket 3 R though
If ever possible, can you do a review with the Kawasaki Concourse & Yamaha FJR, and compare them with the new sport tourers of today & see if they are still relevant.
I have a 2022 MT-10SP as my road bike and a 2020 S1000RR M-Sport as my track bike. I honestly think this is one of the best combos you could get to cover both bases. I don’t know why, but the 10SP is more than the sum of it’s parts. I suspect the sound of the CP4 (with a full system obviously) is the secret ingredient. As for the brakes - all the 10SP needs is a pad upgrade (Brembo SR for me) and proper bleed of the fluid. The Brembo master cylinder and steel braided lines definitely don’t need upgrading - yet another reason to go for the SP over the base model.
Awesome video ! Can't wait for the 1250rs vs mandello. Would love to hear how you'd rank the super nakeds in order of which you'd most want to own. The KTM, Ducati, triumph, Yamaha, Aprilia
I have SD Evo found leaving the suspension in auto on the road . Very quick to change to road surface and speed . Leaving both in auto be a good compromise. As depending on surface and speed will adjust the damping. Brakes are good Wouldn’t say they Instant sharp . Taken it on track once wouldn’t be first choice for a track bike but good fun .
What a pair of beauties, Chopsy and Gregorio 😁Great review and two very well thought out and put together bikes which is why its hard to separate them! Both are great road bikes and I love the look of them. Maybe the SDR wins it for me as it's a little bit more radical looking and extreme in its styling. MT10 is beautifully finished and lovely paint job. Both have soul too! Can't go wrong with either I say! 😅
Hi Chopsy. . Was wondering. .you've done reviews of various super nakeds now. I'd be fascinated if you were to review an expensive super naked like an MT10 / superduke with a v good but cheaper naked like the triumph street triple 765RS etc. Is the triumph better value for money and effectively just as good on the road etc . . Thoughts? Cheers
This would be a great comparison - how about it @lambchoprides? There must be quite a few of us trying to decide whether or not we need supernaked power on the road or if it's a more engaging experience to extract the full performance more of the time from a good middleweight naked?
I've owned gen 2 SD and a 2019 MT10, both were awesome and different, but I felt the MT10 was more playful and fun, even though it's less powerful than the KTM.
Great review guys 👍 cant believe you chose the MT 10 Chops!! 🤦♂️... nice one Greg defo my choice and dont forget 3k off the SDR at the moment to. Both great bikes but i just love the crazy SDR 👍👍

Love this review. I’ve owned a Gen 1 KTM super duke R. Incredible bike. The 3rd gen must be amazing. However, I’m with chopsy here. Something about the yamaha MT10, I just want one. Previous to the KTM I had multi R1’s over the years, and that CP4 engine is an amazing engine. Put that Yamaha CP4 in a naked street fighter type bike, with more focus on mid range power and torque and you have an incredibly delicious recipe. MT10 is my next bike.

Fair play Chopsy, your production values are just getting better and better. I think that you're probably the best out there now. As a presenting team, you and Greg are great, it just works! I tried out a 1st gen SD back in the day, it was a revelation to me, being a youngish, new rider at the time. These days I ride a R1200R, the model preceding the 1250, same shape, etc. Obviously, it falls into the 'capable' category, not the 'super-fast' category. So, last week, I tried out the current SD. I went up the road crying in fits of laughter...honestly, it was too much for me. I gave it back to the Saleslady, I said "I love it, but there's no point in a follow-up phone call"🤣 Great work gents, thanks again👍

Hi lamb chop, i have just bought an mt10sp, previous bike mt09sp. I did consider a ktm, but i think the yamaha will be just more reliable. My mt09sp, tuned and remapped, i s a complete hoot to ride, i sold it to my mate Liam. See you at weymouth bike night! I live just off the coast road, great video!
I understand the weight of this decision on Chop's face! I think it means that if you're serious about performance nakeds then you definitely need to own both of these amazing bikes at some stage - Both somehow quite different but at the same time both also undeniably brilliant great fun big power rides - But be warned that they do complicate a motorcyclists life - Because they're both so good that if/when you ever sell thse bikes, you will probably always have that little voice in the back of your head that (rightly) tells you that buying another one would be a great idea!
I think purely as a sport bike the ktm is better. But as a 1 bike in the garage all rounder, bang for buck and reliability. The 10 is probably the better option
I want to like your channel, you come across as very engaging and your passion for bikes is obvious and infectious. It’s just the whole video appears to have been filmed on roads where the speed limit is no more than 60 yet you appear to pay scant regard to this. This seems to be a bit of a recurring theme in your road tests yet motorcycling is so much more than speed and you miss so much riding that way.
Currently own an SDR, and after replacing the radiator, clutch cover gasket, oil temp sensor, tail light and disc rotors… I’m done… great fun bike, but the ownership experience is not what I’d expected. Yamaha MT10SP on order and arriving Monday.
My current bike is 2022 MT09sp and I love it, the only thing I want is a little bit more power so I can hang out with the big bikes, now I do love both bikes but from your video I think my next bike would be the MT10sp The only thing I don't like is the front end, does it look better in person?
Hi only just come across your channel, and loved this review. Always knew the KTM had slightly more power so this back to back test was really interesting. What I will say in regards to the MT10, I have the Gen1 (have to disagree with you that the Gen2 is better looking.....absolutely not ha ha, (and that comes from a man who loved Transformers, which the Gen1 definitely has the looks of) I have the standard MT10, but have fitted a jack up kit to the rear, which not only makes it look more sporty, but does push some of the weight forwards, which I like. Invested in the comfy seat which is plush, and I have also had it remapped (cat still on) and the difference is night and day, felt especially around the mountain section of the Isle of Man, during TT, and Manx week (June and August respectively). Used to show 161mph top speed before remap, now shows 171mph with speed restrictors removed. Still if I had to pick between the two, MT10 all day for me, have subscribed anyway. 👍
98% of bikes look nice when they are in your driveway/garage. I have intentionally bought polarising bikes over the years, and everytime I have given it a spray down I can't help but just look at them, prideful in my purchasing decision.
What a surprising result, Chopsie! :-) Great review. I owned a manual suspension version of the SD...nice bike, but I really didn't like the riding position and I found the suspension harsh. Rode a mate's MT10SP and was very impressed. Really comfortable, and, being a Yamaha it will start every time.... A 10SP with Brembos and a full system would be great.
Love the video although i'd be cackingit riding those bikes in just a hoodie. Here in France mind you your average mt09/10 rider is in shorts popping wheelies 😀
Flip a coin? . Both bikes are amazing , but for me the the KTM just edged out the MT . This is just based on what I like in styling and looks and performance. Great video enjoyed the on road banter with you and Greg , makes for a good balance. Look forward to the next instalment of Chops & Greg .
In 2022 I purchased the KTM SD-R EVO, before I could ride off the dealers lot it threw a code and locked out the suspension adjustment. At about 500 miles it threw an MTC Failure code and went into limp home mode. After getting it back the second time from the dealer it made it exactly 62 miles and threw another MTC Failure code. The dealer, even with the factory rep helping, couldn’t find the problem. I cut my losses and got rid of it at that point. Such a disappointment. After 7 year of owing more than a couple of KTM’s, I’m fed up with their electronic gremlins, dash units that “cloud up and rain” internally, and the need to shut the key off multiple times during a ride to “reset” something that has stopped working. Brilliant engaging engines, fabulous handling, and total crap electronics. No more KTM’s for me.
All you need is a servo eliminator and no more MTC failures (of course you shouldn’t have too but it is what it is) Most preload issues happen by not letting the electronics cycle fully before starting.
@@daveo9844 HaHaHa ! Servo eliminator would void the warranty, it was less than a month old, and the factory rep nor the dealership would touch it for any other problems after that…..yes I asked. And I know enough about the “System Self Check” that takes place and required waiting when first switching on, a procedure I followed religiously on all my bikes and cars. Face the facts…..KTM electronics are crap.
Nice content as always. Only one comment was that provided you were comparing two bikes with semi electronic suspension I was expecting a bit more of practical comparison between the two bikes and systems and this was not the case here. I would say that the WP system has become quite good in particular in the EVO and it completes the super duke quite well, bringing it to a level with Ohlins.
Question for anyone…? I’m a Ducati 996 owner. Here in Sydney we have brutal summers and the heat coming off the rear cylinder cooks my inner leg to the point i wont ride it. Whats the SDR like for heat issues?
As an MT10 owner, I cannot disagree with your opinion. All you need is the comfort seat and the screen. Superb bike.

Again.
Yeah the dealers had my superduke more then I did 😩
I rode a 890 Duke R and the bike was already having mechanical issues. Had to pull over while the other riders went on. Immediately got a USED mt10. Could not be happier
Great review....super fun.....and even better banter. Mind you, I still haven't a clue which one I'd have in the garage, given half the chance! Take care and thanks again for another excellent upload.
Great video. That MT-10 SP is an awesome bike and would be more reliable to live with.
But clearly nowhere near as awesome!
@@h2489-m2lno, much better. Because it is great now and in 10 years from now when the KTM will be a pile of crap.
@cp4512 agreed
Great stuff! Great communication, great detailed info and the “fun” aspect gets through the screen.
I am a subscriber since day 1 😊
SD runs out of revs. 10500
Ah, I've been waiting for this one!
Thumbs up even before I start watching 👍
Good man 😁👍
Come on Chopsy - I've just bought an SDR on your recommendation! Now you're telling me it should've been an MT10SP, ffs 😂
Haha both brilliant! 😂👍
As soon as I saw this come up on UA-cam I ran to the kettle to make my self a brew then got comfy! Cracking vid lads 😀🏍️🤟🏴
Hope you enjoy! 😁👍
I'm quite curious how the ZH2 would compare to these bikes. Any plans of taking the newer ones for a spin ?
Engineer: I’ve got idea. Let’s put a little slot to keep the key in, in the middle of the dash.
Other engineers: faaarkkk off that’ll never catch on.
😂 and the KTM now comes with 4 year warranty.
@@Steve-motorcycles That's good, you'll need it! 🙂

Thanks buddy 👍
@@alrightdave6135 this is my 3rd KTM and previous 2 were fine. Discounting as new 1390 coming next year

@@alrightdave6135 and the 4 year warranty
I made a similar move to you. RR - SDR and have no regrets. SDR is such a good bike so hopefully the reliability is good also.
@@kmfizI also had the switch gear issue common fault apparently.
I also come from an S1000rr 😂
@@knaussgy Were you able to fix it?
Great video as usual. What about a mt10 vs s1000r?. I know that you have a fondness for both. I think it would be a good comparison.
Great formula Chopsy, enjoy hearing two knowledgeable guys chatting about something they clearly love.
Glad you enjoyed it! 😁👍
@@scottyuk Absolutely! It’s like nothing else out there.
another great back to back review chopsy ! both of you are really easy to watch . id also go with the MT10 because Japanese 🤣
Love your videos and reviews please let me know How do you get your audio so Crisp?
Pull the forks through the yolks 10mm and turn the bar risers 180 degrees (bars 10mm forward from standard) and the MT feels much better! Fit different risers that lower the bars 10mm from standard as well as 10mm forward from standard and it is better again. As for that special something, it's most likely the Crossplane engine, or the sound at least... It's got the Tuono-esque sound but with reliability...
Great tips 👍
Love the comparison reviews. Keep them coming.
Thank you to both of you. :)
Love your comparisons! Keep it going!
Thank you! Will do!
Hard to buy a Ktm now with a very uncertain future.
Awesome video ! Can't wait for the 1250rs vs mandello. Would love to hear how you'd rank the super nakeds in order of which you'd most want to own. The KTM, Ducati, triumph, Yamaha, Aprilia
The sound of the MT10 is enough reason to choose it over the ktm
I have SD Evo found leaving the suspension in auto on the road . Very quick to change to road surface and speed . Leaving both in auto be a good compromise. As
depending on surface and speed will adjust the damping.
Brakes are good
Wouldn’t say they Instant sharp .
bloody hell great vid guys love it!!!
Thanks Craig 👍
Hi Chopsy.
Had my 21 MT10 out yesterday...many smiles!!!
Another great team review much appreciated. I agree with chops the MT10 has a playful X factor which swings it
I've owned gen 2 SD and a 2019 MT10, both were awesome and different, but I felt the MT10 was more playful and fun, even though it's less powerful than the KTM.

SDR for me though slightly concerned that two UA-camrs gave up on them and handed them back because they were so unreliable. One swapped it for the BMW XR and the other for the MT10. I do agree the mT10 looks better in the flesh. Another great comparison video guys.

Mr. Chopsie, please make a review between zh2 vs mt10sp naked battle please 🙏🏼
Welcome to the channel Daz, thanks for subscribing 👍
Great comparison Chopsy and Greg , looks like you both enjoyed that . .👍. Both great bikes , KTM has the better looks in my view . 👍

I owned a manual suspension version of the SD...nice bike, but I really didn't like the riding position and I found the suspension harsh. Rode a mate's MT10SP and was very impressed. @LambChopRides Is there any official info on the 1390? What month does Ktm usually release new stuff? Sort of holding off because of it..
No news but it's definitely coming! I don't know any details sorry
Yeah sorry could have done more on that 👍
Question for anyone…? I’m a Ducati 996 owner. Here in Sydney we have brutal summers and the heat coming off the rear cylinder cooks my inner leg to the point i wont ride it. Whats the SDR like for heat issues?
