I've had my standard mt10 suspension setup and it's a totally different bike now, so if you're going down the route of the standard one, highly recommended, as for the brakes, like most of the owners do, just change the pads for sinter pads (same as the one in the video) as for the buying a sp, I don't think it's worth the extra money personally, if you have to change the suspension on the sp, it's a lot more difficult as it's electric...... I'm happy with my cyan storm standard bike, sorry Tim, it's not as black and white as you think....

I've said it, and I'll say it again, the suspension changes everything. Here we have the Ford Ranger and Ranger 'Wildtrack', and the real deal sealer is the active suspension. It makes all the difference. Great review. I agree with you. 😊

Mt10 sp not having brembos is a fumble in my opinion. However yamaha finally picked the ball back up with the 2024 Mt09 sp getting the brembos. Let's hope they also have added braided lines, as they did aslo give it the brembo master cylinder.

    • @timrodierides

Quite the opposite, high quality suspension soaks up the bumps and cracks on roads and keep you confident to still go fast. On a racetrack you usually have a nice and smooth surface.

I sometimes wish I had waited to find the SP when I bought my 2023 MT-10, but after a few mods I’m in love with this bike and don’t feel like I’m missing out that much from the SP. Granted your SP looks awesome so if I had the opportunity to go back I would probably go for the SP.

Interesting video as usual Tim, thank you! Oh, the joys of autumn riding in the UK... all those leaves and little lines of general detritus just where you want to put your wheels! I think what your comparison points to is the value of really good suspension that keeps the main mass of the bike and rider under control, and allows the wheels to move to connect with the road - what the SP seems to do is manage that better in more conditions that gives you more confidence - nothing is worse in sketchy conditions than when the bike starts bouncing (you with it) and you lose the confidence to be able to place it accurately. It'll be interesting to see your thoughts on the 09. Keep 'em coming!

Great review and all the right considerations raised. I’m a tart too and always go for the top available spec except for this instance however and generally feel the SP is worth every penny for most riders that want an all rounder.
I love the all black scheme so went tech black, I’m also heavier than a standard rider so opted to put the money saved into a fast road / track orientated suspension set-up.l which I’ve had dialled into what I want. Comfort is sacrificed but I won’t be doing touring on this bike personally. Brakes are going to be compldtely overhauled too.
As your review outlines you’ll be happy with either, the SP is worth the extra to most unless you have different priorities like myself.

Great comparison review. I've no doubt the SP is the better bike but when I picked up my MT10 for £12.5k there was £4k price difference which I personally couldn't justify. Now there are deals also on the SP to be had bringing that difference to nearer that £2k I might of pulled the trigger on that one. I have the base models fully adjustable suspension dialed in now for me and it's great. Would I like the option to twiddle for different roads or riding mood? Yeah, but not at the previous £4k difference.

Hi Tim, the cost you mention of buying one of these made me wonder what your thoughts are when comparing them to an Aprilia Tuono Factory. I bought my Factory in November last year for 15k and it's insane (not sure how long I'll keep my license, but it'll be fun). You rode the Aprilia and it seems like they are both similar with regard to madness. And their obvious drinking issue!

Moral of story. Handling will probably be better, performance will be the same. Does the better suspension give you an edge in the overall riding experience? Unless you’re an experienced rider I’d say it’s a wash, but you’re 2500 grand poorer.

correction, can't change suspension settings on the fly, only at full stop, and it DOES NOT matter if you get SP or standard, get better BRAKE PADS!!!! pads should be the first thing to do on these bike, then after get it FLASHED! if you want to, change the mid pipe and eliminate that CAT but from what I've seen from dyno charts on FLASHED BIKES, people have been getting same to very similar WHP rating with cat or cat delete, but the flash is where you'll make some serious power delivery!!! 😎😎

So sad that the '24 MT09 & SP both get updates, the SP even gets Brembos... The MT10 gets nothing of the sort.
I am in the market for a hyper-naked and I think I'll just grab a used Super Duke and wait for either the 1390 or an updated MT10SP in '25.

  • @mattmutane5502
    @mattmutane5502 Рік тому +1

Tim, good comparison vid, as per usual - good work! :) Question, do you agree that the standard MT10 has a great setup fork wise, but the rear shock is both (if you're heavier than approx 60kgs) under-damped and under-sprung (which can't be fixed with knob twiddling?). The option I went for (which I probably already told you), was to replace the rear shock with the R1 shock (you get a nicer forged/machined ally unit and a ride height adjuster into the bargain, reworked (in my case by MCT), with new valving and an uprated shock to match my weight). It's like having a whole new bike which handles LIGHT YEARS better than the standard bike!!! :) :D :D Perhaps that mod, plus some AM braided lines FTW cost/performance VFM wise? (I spent less than £600 on the shock all in). Thoughts?

I like your review style, but I know it’s not only me that thinks your opinion is biased, simply because you own the SP. You’re never going to buy something for 16k and then say it’s crap. I much prefer the look of the standard bike and the minor flaws can easily be sorted with a spenders tune and good pads and still have lots of change in your pocket over the SP.

I was disappointed in the mt10 power. Its nothing like the R1. Where the mt runs out of power the R1 is developing another 60 hp. And the growl from the R1 is way louder. You can hear the intake track open and the upper injectors kick in around 10k and the power pour on.
