I've been doing a monthly reading challenge through my local library, and this month was to read a book by a neurodivergent author - I chose your book, The Bullet Journal Method! I've been following all things bujo for over a decade (the early stop motion video with the sticky notes!) so I didn't expect to learn much new, but I was surprised! I also appreciate that your book has the same helpful focus on visual examples throughout as your video content. Even as I move through reading the book, I find I don’t have to add a bunch of bookmarks or sticky tabs to sections I'll want to reference again later because you've made such a thorough index! You've created a powerful tool, and sharing that with the world has been such a gift.
I‘m intrigued. @vegronica9006 Does your library have a list of books by neurodivergent Autors? So far I’ve only read Ryders book, The Anti-Planner and all books by Temple Grandin. Do you have more tips for me?
@lonelyuser67 They do, but I'd rather not dox myself by sharing where I live. A quick web search for "books by neurodivergent author" brings up tons of hits, though! I can also toss a couple author names at you: Amanda Gorman, Jenny Lawson, Lily Bailey, Helen Hoang - the last one is definitely going on my to-read pile because a romance novel with an autistic protagonist sounds interesting to me!
@@lonelyuser67 You could read Janet Frame's three part autobiography, Angel at My Table. So far, I have only read the middle part as I didn't know there were three parts and it is beautiful. I practiced the method the entire last year, and for this year, I ended up opting for a planner for the convenience of having the pages "ready," but I already regretted the choice and miss my old customization. Ryder, thanks for sharing this tips I'm writing daily logging as mini diary, triangle sign indicates mini diary, now my Bullet Journal 2024 looks more full, no more empty pages
This a good way for me to start bullet journaling simple not completed I am the person who is busy all the time I need something like a 5 minute bullet journaling! East to understand! Once I done it for awhile then I get fancy!
I really want to learn to do this. This is The Best System I’ve found. I just need to commit to the five minutes. I clutter my mind with Stuff and get very little done. I know I can do better. Thank you for your videos!!
I've been following your first simple guides for five years now, and BuJo is definitely one of the most stable things in my life. I love these short videos with visual examples! The opportunity to be minimalistic is what helped me to stay consistent with journaling.
Empecé con el Bullet Journal por allá en el 2015. Puedo decir hoy por hoy que tengo una relación estable con el bujo, es una herramienta que me ha ayudado tanto. Gracias Ryder por compartirlo 🙌🎁🎉
I have ADHD and when I heard about bullet journaling it sounded very interesting to me. Then I saw all these elaborate journals people were making and my anxiety was like well we can't do that but maybe there's some principals I can take away. Then I saw this video and now I was less intimidated by the concept. I think you can make another video like this one for ADHD people who need things to be simple to get started. I've simplified this even more by using a pocket sized notebook. Which I can carry on me so I can take my daily tasks with me if I need to. It also limits how much I can put on each day limiting the potential stress and anxiety I get from robust notes/schedules. I've been doing this consistently for two 6 weeks now and I feel more in control of my days than I haven in a long time. I have also been starting my day with meditation as soon as I wake up then I move on to my bullet journal after my morning self care. Thanks!
Same here. Pocket notebook. I'm a blue collar worker, so even the new smaller BuJo is too big for me to have with me throughout the day. Previously, my yearly full-sized BuJo barely got touched more than a few times a month. When I switched my practice to Field Notes, I use it almost every day.
I felt this way as well. The really elaborate journals people make can be so intimidating. Some of these people make it their job to show off these intricate journals that they spent all day creating, like their entire life surrounds their bullet journal. I'm glad to have found the creator and his way of doing things, it's much simpler.
This month, I started my 4th Bullet Journal. My first BuJo from 2021 (the thinner OG one) served me the best, and I wrote much more than ever. I kept it simple as you write in the book. Later, I added modifications following your process - 3 things that I'm thankful for, which I changed to 2 things + food tracker. Also, weekly long-form journal. All those things slowed me down, and whenever I left blank spaces or blank pages for weekly journaling, I felt terrible I forgot about them or was pressured to fill them backward (I know - it's stupid). However, now you remind us to keep it simple, and I need that. The food tracker didn't help me eat healthier, but I used it to see when I ate something so that I could either throw away some leftovers or avoid making the same dish again this week. Thanks for posting that video and reminding me to keep things simple. This should be a tool and help - not be in the way.
Thanks for the videos they are so helpfully. Comment on this one: an additional perspective: since some years I try to extend from a note / 1 sentence to a detailed description in order to give my brain more time to deal with it and to become calmer and focused.
Dear Ryder, welcome back. Hope you recovered well from your injury. 😊 Thanks for this video. It'll help me catch up on my BuJo practise of February. My notes are all over the place and I want to collect them back into my BuJo. The mood bullet will help a great deal. ❤
I always wanted to make a bullet journal but I thought it had too many designs and rules. Now I found it so simple that I can combine it with other methods to make my routine even easier and track my progress.
Ryder, thank you very much for this video. My head tends to get complicated and mix concepts. Now, I understand much better how to, start, flow and end my day with my BuJo. Well, it was evolving as you said and it was making me insecure but at the same time it was taking me more and more time. It has helped me to clarify everything. A hug and have a great day!
Im on a waiting list for ADHD diagnosis...Ive been using Bullet Journal for a few years now and I really would be lost without it. I wish I had a system like this earlier. Thanks!!
Thanks for this video. I was struggling a little bit with the bunch of tasks I was added to my day (thanks for the 5 task rules) and the fact that I never succeeded to complete them (so didn't know what to do in the system). thanks for answering both ^^
This is what I wanted to get started. Just came to this from a video that requires literally 2 hours of prepping for the entire year before I even start writing in it.
FYI: TYPO at 1:15 the position for ACTIONS & NOTES should be swapped (based on the other slides and directions. Thank you for the tutorial. Interesting approach that I will try out.
Love the simplicity! Your previous video that combined interstitial journaling with rapid logging was the missing piece for me and has given me confidence with my BUJO practice.
Great video. It motivates me to make a fresh start, in a simple and straightforward way. The time-consuming reflection at the end of the weeks and months, when you have to write entire essays, is overwhelming for me. 😅
Totally understand that - just make it smaller so you actually do it. Plenty of people just distill it down to 3 insights, or they do it in bullet points. Perhaps you try speaking and letting your phone transcribe your words. Whatever makes it easier with the time you have (rather than skipping!)
perfect timing for this BuJo⚡️ video, his life is ampIng up both at work in person task! I’ll try this for The season I’m in now. Appreciate you Ryder.⚡️ 😊
His is the original. The rest have just complicated what was meant to be simple. If it works for them, awesome, but I don't have the time for all that.
As someone who has been bullet journaling for the better part of a decade, I am really enjoying these videos I would love to see some videos about the monthly log. I value migrating to that log and other places, but I really get caught up on the Monthly Log and it tends to be something I don’t want to look at rather than being a useful collection I get that other collections can help to manage the length of the monthly log, but the same can happen to those lists - they can get neglected How does your mindset affect your approach to managing a list more than a month old?
Meanwhile, the majority of bujoing youtubers are creating arts and crafts scrapbooks trying to teach people how to "bullet journal" and discouraging them all in the process.
In this video it is really very well explained what the core of the Bujo is. What other tips are there if you are a sales representative in the field. I can't decide between a paper calendar or Google Calendar. + Bullet Journal All the best and greetings from Bavaria
Fantastic haircut. Great video. Keep things simple. Focus on the basics. ... oh, and great haircut. Not that the world is all about presentation or aesthetic :-). Best from NorCal,
This comments section doesn’t pass the vibe check. Why are you all hating on people who’ve taken the original BuJo concept and expanded it into something more creative?? If it helps people then why should it bother you all so much?
i don’t exactly see people hating the artistic journals but appreciate the fact that ryder broke it down to the basics here. you can do whatever you want with your journal but many people are overwhelmed when they look it up and 90% is artsy and beautiful journals that simply do not reflect the original method behind the bullet journal system. i also fell into the trap of thinking my journal had to be beautiful and artsy but realised that that’s just not me. and i think a lot of others felt the same and appreciate the simple approach 🙂
Because the idea of the Bullet Journal wasn’t to practise creativity or make it pretty, the idea was to make it a productivity system that tracks your everyday life
The fact is that most people either need to be screwed down a little tighter or loosened up I think it’s because many people get into journalling when they feel the need to be screwed down tighter. Then they get evangelistic about it It’s a function of neuroticism. You feel you can’t function without order, so you become neurotic and create order. Then you see that the order works and you want to impose it everywhere. It’s the way of things
Hi Ryder. I tried Bujo when I came across your video in 2017 but not consistent. I struggled and am still struggling on rapid logging. Instead of a simple short sentence, it became several sentences to make sense to me. While many may find it easy to rapid log, it's actually the main reason for my inconsistency because the logging takes too much time and a struggle. Will you be able to create a video on tips for rapid logging or how to rapid log? Many thanks!
I love this! I’m trying to restart after feeling I got too bogged down in formatting & “decorating” pages. One question: how to handle items that are further out than “today”?
Love the mood signifier, so helpful! Is a kind of insight from the pandemic? Also the esthetic of the bujo model (average calligraphy, avarage pen): looks like a statement in the context of overdesigned bujos flowing in the social media.
I've been incorporating more and more notes on how I have felt over the last several years, and it all came together in a cohesive framework for me recently!
BuJo is amazing! @Ryan - I have a question for you. What would you say to someone who wants to keep their journaling practice in a separate notebook/app? How would you recommend someone marry the BuJo method and their Bullet Journal with another dedicate Journal?
4 years ago i tried bullet journalling.. it sucked and i hated it because all the videos i saw where of people telling me how it woudl 10x my proformance or they where just scrappbookers in disguise. Turns out using it as a list with a bit of freeform note taking was what i needed. Got too swept up in all the romanticising of, what is essentially just taking notes, albeit in an efficient way.
Glad to see another video with Ryder again! I got worried after watching his last video about his injury and noticing how quiet the channel was. I hope he's doing okay! A question: I read the Bullet Journal Method ages ago, and I might be misremembering what I read, but I remember the opposite advice - writing only the most important tasks once, and only rewriting them into the following month if they were worth migrating. I used to rewrite every open task daily and I changed that after reading the book. But now this video's out and it seems to be reccing that exactly? So I'm just a little confused, did I misunderstand or misremember the book, or is this just advice changing as the method evolves?
Great question! So we are still saying you should only migrate what is worth bringing forward. Could you point to where it suggests something else? We jut want to make sure we are communicating clearly! Sometimes we just don't get something done in the day we intended, which might be what you're seeing
Wish I had known this beautifully condensed methodology to teach my ex... her mind was clouded when she was granted access to it. Sadly, she created so much chaos that it was simply impossible for her to realize that there was no enemy besides her lack of understanding/control over her mood and will. THis would've helped her realize that the person that made her slightly aware (not yet self-aware) wasn't there to hurt her, but to bring her "back" (up to par) from never having had control. As for myself, I did this when I was traveling a decade ago.. but they were thoughts, observations and notions. Travelling gave me the will to do and meet without me having to defeat my inherent will to distract. Now, I have to distract myself (or rather.. had to) because what I have to do might bring about the end of our neglect as a species. As you probably know given all these videos::: neglect, if untamed, turns into ignorance. For most people, I would even use the word "festers" into it as people have no grip on whom they are for they've never worked towards it (not self-aware).
When you start a day and something wasn’t finished from the previous day do you put an arrow through it and write it again on the new day? Write it again on the current day of tasks?
Hi, thank you for the video. I like this philosophy but struggle to implement it because of the number of actions that I have to manage. Even if I can write only 5 actions to tackle, I also have to capture the 45 other ones somewhere 😂. Any tips ?
You might try doing a mental inventory FIRST so you have everything down on paper (bulletjournal.com/blogs/bulletjournalist/mental-inventory). Then you really look at everything and ELIMINATE or delegate as much as possible according to the "CARE Filter" questions: Is this something in my **Control**? Is this something I am **Able** to commit to doing right now given my resources, time, energy? Is this actually **required** of me? Is this **Enlivening** to me or someone I love? Try to remove as much as possible. Then, you can migrate what is left into your Future Log, Monthly Log, etc.
What about tasks from monthly log, projects, deadlines, slack, email, reminders. How do I process all of these and do I migrate every task I’m doing today to the daily log?
great question. technically you can put everything that you will *actually* address in the Daily Log. This part requires a lot of calibrating for what is realistic. If there is a task that is outside of today, you can add it into your Weekly or Monthly Log to pull when it becomes relevant. But yes if there are tasks that emerge from the other sources, you would put it into the Daily Log
I always plan my tasks and events in the morning, so I would write for example 5 tasks for the day. But then I want to write a note with the 2nd task and I can't write it right below it... any ideas how to tackle this?
I noticed that the daily journaling in this video was a day per page, unlike what I've seen before where it was on multiple pages - listed under each other. Why the change and is this just another option or one you are now suggesting? I also have to ask why are the events circles rather than squares? This has always gotten my curiosity. For the record I too am for simplicity and saving time - no layouts, colors, etc. I don't use the mood signifier as I have another long-hand journal in a separate second log - more for a way to do a brain dump, and to acknowledge my moods and anything I care to write about - like identifying why I am grateful - which is definitely longer than one line. It affords all the space I need. The one sentence entry is a rule I stick to as this other journal is for my planning. Thanks very much.
Maybe this was because the page on 03.01 was full? (Also that he started on the right page, leaving the left blanc was a bit irritating; than I thought Ryder might use it as a Month Overview Page?) I sometimes have 3 or 4 days on one page (I have a tiny handwriting), it works perfect. (And I use different icons.) The awesome thing about BuJo® for me is that it "allows" to use it the way it works perfect for me as long as I stick to the idea of the method.
The the daily logs, it just was the way this turned out, not a suggestion to do a page a day by any means. We use circles because they are easier to draw - there's just a tad more focus and energy to get a good looking square. Thanks for paying attention!
That's where your weekly ritual is really important - so when you review, you can see if it's still relevant, and migrate it. If you see something yesterday that is not relevant today, you might put it in your Weekly Log or Monthly Log, whichever is the relevant time scale for you to revisit
This video was minimalist enough to encourage me to try
That is the best kind of feedback :)

This should be a tool and help - not be in the way.
we all need that reminder sometimes
Thanks for the videos they are so helpfully. Comment on this one: an additional perspective: since some years I try to extend from a note / 1 sentence to a detailed description in order to give my brain more time to deal with it and to become calmer and focused.
Hey! That mood bullet is similar to the bullet I used to use for my negative rants hehe. Funny seeing that here :0
Dear Ryder, welcome back. Hope you recovered well from your injury. 😊
Thanks for this video. It'll help me catch up on my BuJo practise of February. My notes are all over the place and I want to collect them back into my BuJo. The mood bullet will help a great deal. ❤
So glad to hear that :)
I always wanted to make a bullet journal but I thought it had too many designs and rules. Now I found it so simple that I can combine it with other methods to make my routine even easier and track my progress.
LOVE the = for mood, going to be so helpful
So glad you’re doing these videos. It’s like they complete the explanation of what bullet journaling is.
I'm glad it is helpful!
I can continue to do this every day and it has a positive impact on me.Thank you!
A hug and have a great day!
glad it can help!
Im on a waiting list for ADHD diagnosis...Ive been using Bullet Journal for a few years now and I really would be lost without it. I wish I had a system like this earlier. Thanks!!
Hope it can help support you while you wait!
Thanks for this video. I was struggling a little bit with the bunch of tasks I was added to my day (thanks for the 5 task rules) and the fact that I never succeeded to complete them (so didn't know what to do in the system).
thanks for answering both ^^
Perfect for me for right now--thank you! This I think I can do. All the best to you!
This is what I wanted to get started. Just came to this from a video that requires literally 2 hours of prepping for the entire year before I even start writing in it.
Happy to have crossed your path!
Да, это лучшее видео,ничего лишнего.Спасибо!
I love the BuJo method and share it with everyone. Thanks for another great video!
Thank you for your support!
Nice to see you again! Nice video, lovely team , excellent method. Thank you!
FYI: TYPO at 1:15 the position for ACTIONS & NOTES should be swapped (based on the other slides and directions.
Thank you for the tutorial. Interesting approach that I will try out.
Love the simplicity! Your previous video that combined interstitial journaling with rapid logging was the missing piece for me and has given me confidence with my BUJO practice.
love to hear that :)
don't strive for the perfect journal; it's a life tool, not a life sentence!
Great point!
I love that, I'm quoting that on/in my journal! ❤
New way to try bullet journaling, yes please! Thanks for the video! ❤
Hope it helps!
perfect timing for this BuJo⚡️ video, his life is ampIng up both at work in person task! I’ll try this for The season I’m in now. Appreciate you Ryder.⚡️ 😊
We appreciate your insights. You'll always have our support.
Thank you for this video! And for your channel!
Very helpful! Thank you. I've had one on my shelf for weeks now but have been too intimidated to start
Oh man, love the simplicity of it to get ANYONE started on BuJo!
Thank you Ryder!
Really need to get on this. Want to do a morning and evening journal
finally a bullet journal video that makes sense.. now I get it! thank you!
His is the original. The rest have just complicated what was meant to be simple. If it works for them, awesome, but I don't have the time for all that.
Thank you. God bless you
As someone who has been bullet journaling for the better part of a decade, I am really enjoying these videos
I would love to see some videos about the monthly log. I value migrating to that log and other places, but I really get caught up on the Monthly Log and it tends to be something I don’t want to look at rather than being a useful collection
I get that other collections can help to manage the length of the monthly log, but the same can happen to those lists - they can get neglected
How does your mindset affect your approach to managing a list more than a month old?
I like the short movies. For ADHD people it's perfect
Freue mich auf das nächste Video.
Thanks for coming back 😅 was waiting for a new video💃🏾
hope it was worth the wait!
Meanwhile, the majority of bujoing youtubers are creating arts and crafts scrapbooks trying to teach people how to "bullet journal" and discouraging them all in the process.
Yes, but see Ryder's handwriting - and he is the "Master" 😆
It's the same in the planner community. It's fine for a bit of artistic expression, but not in the day to day. Agreed
Agree 💯
In this video it is really very well explained what the core of the Bujo is. What other tips are there if you are a sales representative in the field. I can't decide between a paper calendar or Google Calendar. + Bullet Journal
All the best and greetings from Bavaria
Thanks for the reminder!
Thank you!
Been doing this with my jibun techo dayz :) works great
Fantastic haircut. Great video. Keep things simple. Focus on the basics. ... oh, and great haircut. Not that the world is all about presentation or aesthetic :-). Best from NorCal,
I like it better simple.just like you explained here. Otherwise i get discouraged quickly
Absolutely loved the info, thank you guys! (why is there no furniture in there? are you into the hardcore minimal stuff?)
LOL we've had a few people ask this - he was in a rented office space that just happened to look verrrrry bare
This comments section doesn’t pass the vibe check. Why are you all hating on people who’ve taken the original BuJo concept and expanded it into something more creative?? If it helps people then why should it bother you all so much?
They’re free to not do the arty stuff too. It has nothing to do with the vibe.
Not sure. I'm a grown up so I don't use the word vibe. I use the bullet journal to get stuff done, not draw and doodle.
i don’t exactly see people hating the artistic journals but appreciate the fact that ryder broke it down to the basics here. you can do whatever you want with your journal but many people are overwhelmed when they look it up and 90% is artsy and beautiful journals that simply do not reflect the original method behind the bullet journal system. i also fell into the trap of thinking my journal had to be beautiful and artsy but realised that that’s just not me. and i think a lot of others felt the same and appreciate the simple approach 🙂
Because the idea of the Bullet Journal wasn’t to practise creativity or make it pretty, the idea was to make it a productivity system that tracks your everyday life
The fact is that most people either need to be screwed down a little tighter or loosened up
I think it’s because many people get into journalling when they feel the need to be screwed down tighter. Then they get evangelistic about it
It’s a function of neuroticism. You feel you can’t function without order, so you become neurotic and create order. Then you see that the order works and you want to impose it everywhere. It’s the way of things
❤❤❤. Good ideas.
Adding it to the list!
Love it. I have To do a bit more logging.
Endlich mal eine authentische, ungeschönte Handschrift! Inhalt > Aussehen
Here’s to simple and messy bullet journaling 🙌
So, just bullet journaling then? :)
No your first starter vids looked way to less meesed up more than a medidation practice @bulletjournal
I love this! I’m trying to restart after feeling I got too bogged down in formatting & “decorating” pages. One question: how to handle items that are further out than “today”?
@@_Moondancer often people will put those tasks in their Weekly Log, Monthly Log, or Future log depending on when it is relevant to them
Love the new hair my man!!😊
Thanks! 😁
Love the idea of the mod bullet! Thanks Ryder! Also, what type of journal are you using in this video?
This mood swing is new.
Interesting.
:)
This definitely helps
Sometimes we just don't get something done in the day we intended, which might be what you're seeing
lovely!
Great haircut!
thank you :)
@@bulletjournal thank you !
This is exactly what I need, though my problem is that I cannot stick to one thing (an anxiety thing I guess)
Keep at it! It's a muscle we can flex 💪🏼
I had this same anxiety because of SIBO and since I got rid of it I have been able to focus easily.
It's a great video, compact and useful. But the slight delay between the video and the audio drives me crazy.
Like it😊
What to do with todos you've written but not completed on this day if they are still relevant but unspecific to time though?
❤️❤️❤️
Can I do this in a whiteboard?
I always plan my tasks and events in the morning, so I would write for example 5 tasks for the day. But then I want to write a note with the 2nd task and I can't write it right below it... any ideas how to tackle this?
Where do tasks go that need to be done but not today
Whichever is most relevant to the task - weekly log, monthly log, or future log
(And I use different icons.)
The awesome thing about BuJo® for me is that it "allows" to use it the way it works perfect for me as long as I stick to the idea of the method.
Thank you for your insights@@michaelh.gerloff3659
The the daily logs, it just was the way this turned out, not a suggestion to do a page a day by any means.
We use circles because they are easier to draw - there's just a tad more focus and energy to get a good looking square. Thanks for paying attention!
Thanks for the response - extremely helpful! And you are right. I tried switching to boxes and they take up too much room.
Are moods ”=“ a newer event type not in the BuJo book?
Correct :) it's an evolution!
"only copy what matters today"
How do you loose stuff, that has an difference greater than today?
That's where your weekly ritual is really important - so when you review, you can see if it's still relevant, and migrate it. If you see something yesterday that is not relevant today, you might put it in your Weekly Log or Monthly Log, whichever is the relevant time scale for you to revisit
Thank you
New 'key' I see👀
👀
At 0:26 it says 03:02 FR then 5 seconds later shows 03:01 FR
