that is really powerful, wow. if you're ever interested in sharing a little bit of your story we'd love to hear. Thanks for this comment and so glad it's been helpful in taking charge of your own life
I started and stopped journaling two years ago. Then I did not get that a task can be an event! This seems a small thing but I think it's huge. Also I didn't get that a casual conversation was an event and would record them as notes. And last but most importantly I didn't get that logging observations and frequently got lost trying to record my feelings, or when I did record observations they would be overly detailed! This video was great! Made me wanna give it another try. Thanks.
I've been journalling since I was young, and I can say that it's helped me a lot in getting to know more about myself. It's also a great way to store information that may come in handy when the time comes.
I'm a beginner, I used to write things passage-wise, but it really helps me mate, I really like your way of dividing tasks, events and notes. It literally helped me out a lot. thanks, man
in 2020, i wanted a better way to keep track of things at work, so i started a bujo. When I completed a task, i would also put a completed date next to it, so I could keep myself accountable. I could make it what i needed it to be. I still use it three years later. I keep lists in the back and a future log. and when i start a new week, i have a list of important items at the top. Its so adaptable. and i have refer back to my previous journals all the time.
Thank you, so useful. And thank you for your calm style. ❤ All my life I have wanted to write every little thing. I now know that it is my ADD brain that needs to externalize every thought to feel that it has been solidified.
I’ve been trying to start since reading the book in 2019. Set up a few times but then not used! Kept getting confused with the difference between tasks & events.. & even notes sometimes. THINK this video has helped me get my head around it! We’ll see when I try again tomorrow! Thank you
I know this was months ago, but I have some thoughts for you or future people who feel the same way you did. In the best way possible, the difference between tasks and events doesn't matter. The symbols presented here and elsewhere are guidelines, and they're good guidelines, but there's nothing strictly magic about them. I feel like you're afraid to do it wrong, but the nice thing about this system is that it's just for you, no one else will see it, so there's no strictly wrong way to use it. Well, almost. The most wrong way is to not start because you're afraid of doing it wrong 😉 The actual magic of the system is not the symbols, but the flexibility and reflection. So start off by just putting everything down as dots. Sure, there are advantages to other symbols, but those are incremental improvements compared to doing nothing. And after you've been doing it for a week, or 4 weeks, it's a good time to think "Hmmm, is there anything about this I could change?", and an easy one might be that some of your tasks aren't really tasks, and you're feeling down at the end of the week looking back at those lists. That's great! Now you've learned something about yourself, the system, and they way you and the system interact! So going forwards, maybe try some dashes, or circles, or both. And if at some point you're not sure which one to use, just use the dot. These things only exist to help you, and if it's getting in your way then it's not helping you, so just move it aside. Or make up a new one. Maybe a squiggly line for you is "thing I don't know what to do with". And at the end of the week you can take a look back over your days and decide then how you wish you had handled the squiggles. Maybe with hindsight it's clear those were events. Great! Do that going forwards! So yeah, the most important thing is to start, and keep at it. And then the second most important thing is to reflect often and adjust and tune the system to what you actually need out of it. All of these videos, even Ryder's, are just suggestions of tools you could try integrating if they fill a need you have. But you can take or leave any of them, and you won't know what you need until you've tried it and observed for yourself. It's your book, and there will *not* be a test.
@@christophervollick4634 I love this! I have been constantly confused about tasks/events and therefore have not been very consistent with my bujo over the past 2 months. The idea of the squiggly line is genuinely amazing! I'm just going to start writing things down with dots and squiggly lines and develop my own system from there. Thank you so much for this comment
Been using this method for years (in varying stages of enthusiasm and detail!) . AFter watching this video, i'm starting a Work Bullet Journal!! Fabulous refresher and just what i needed
Discovering the easiest way to journal every day with valuable insights. Your guidance is a gateway to consistent self-reflection. Time to implement this easy journaling method and cultivate a daily reflective practice.
I seem to come up with the best ideas and constructive thoughts when I can’t write them down! I’ll be driving, out running, working out or in the shower! What tips or tricks do you have to hold on to these thoughts long enough to get them down on paper? Thank you in advance! -Dana from Pittsburgh, PA 😊
In a recent video, Ryder suggested using the notes on your mobile to save and supplement with setting a notification that says something like "Dump Idea Collection to BuJo."
I also like to use a voice dictation process - sometimes my best ideas come as I'm walking so I just open a note and start dictating. Then I have a text transcript to build from
Keen to start a BuJo, I'm a list maker, they are everywhere, on bits of paper (that I end up loosing) scattered in note books (I forget where they are). I've seen beautiful layouts, which I will probably do at some point (I do like art related projects) but to get started your method seems so much more manageable, I just ordered your book and a journal, so curious to see where this takes me.
Looking forward to hearing about it! We also have an email introduction that helps you set up along the way if you want to sign up for it on the website - it is free
I think once you established the habit this particular problem will be gone- and there are several videos of how to establish a habit. For instance, I would recommend you to keep your Journal near you or at least somewhere you can easily see and access to.
I set alarms on my phone to remind me to check in with BuJo a few times during the day. This helps keep me on track with tasks and provides opportunities to reflect and capture moments.
I need a system to navigate trought the daily logs like tags. for example I need to find what I wrote about the raltionship whit a specific customer in the last year. and in the same time I need to find when I've spoked whith my boss about a specific project . Now, in my Bujo, I need to serching day by day to find it. but it's not usefull.
You could use the index for that. Have an line for all pages with a specific customer or specific project. I might write those things in WorkFlowy and just use search.
For some, they dedicate whole Collections to specific clients or their team members. Whatever notes or tasks they have related to that person, goes into that specific Collection that's then listed in the Index
How often does one rapid log? Daily? Weekly? Monthly? I can see starting with a rapid log and then pulling off that list to make my day-day tasks. Then, each day, tracking my todos while mini-rapid logging NEW tasks, events, and notes. Does that sound feasible?
Great question - so, rapid logging is *how* you make entries in the logs. Using the dynamic bullets, simplified language, etc throughout the day to create that list. Are you perhaps thinking of what people call "brain dumping"? In our Monthly and Weekly rituals we create a task list that you can pull from each day, so that sounds similar. Sometimes it's the specific terms that get mixed up!
Hi Ryder, thank you for that basic but useful video. Even when you bullet journal for a very long time, it is very helpful for having these reminders. I have one request: When will BuJo U can be paid with PayPal. I have no credit card and finally want to do that. Is it planned to add other payment options? Greetings from Germany. Madlen
My problem is, I do not want to take one book everywhere, I like one book next to bed, one in desk, one to go...and that's cool, but It gets a mess by design if I wanna review. Any suggestions?
Question: I am looking for a good solution for adding appointments to my Bullet Journal. I am in the healthcare field and have appointments throughout the day. I see that many times the circle bullet is used for things that have already happened and I have been using them to designate a future appointment when I'm building my schedule for the upcoming day in my Daily Log. I am wondering if there might be a different solution as adding appointments to the Future Log or the Monthly Log would take up way too much room.
it is also for upcoming appointments in the day as well! some will start their Daily Log with their schedule, using the circle bullets. Or do you mean planning ahead in general?
@@bulletjournal I think planning ahead with specific appointments in mind, but I guess more generally as well. In reading TBJM and taking in the videos I was seeing for logging events that already happened as the circle bullet and I've been using them for both things that are pre-scheduled and things that happen in the day that I don't schedule.
I mark them as events. Tasks can be moved around if something else comes up for me. Meetings and Yoga or other events involving other people can't easily be moved.
Likely, yes. Or some form of digital calendar. It is such an easily accessible tool wherever I am, plus I still schedule events with friends and family via a digital calendar and it helps with having addresses for navigation at my fingertips
What I didn't understand was if we should put all together - tasks, events, notes of capture - in the same place of the journal, or in separate sessions or pages.
Can i have a video request? I'm a new university undergraduate student. I've tried different things in my bullet journal previously. But, most of those Didn’t work. I think i don't know how to use a corporate/business use of bullet journal and make it very student friendly,..i want to use it to track my studies, research approach, extra curricular activities etc. Would you please help me?
I journal. Write stuff down, monitor my thoughts, note down stuff I’m grateful for, write to do lists. But I just can’t get my head around bullet journaling. Don’t know why.
That sounds like the basics. The big difference between what I did before bullet journaling and now is that I write the date at top of the page. (or draw a line and then write the date if I have enough room for another day on that page.) Ryder has videos where he talks about using the modules that you need, starting with the daily log. My daily log is mostly a to-do list. I've never gotten the hang of the monthly and future logs. I think my digital calendar substitutes for that in my life.
@@bulletjournal Oh it usually IS one if I've resorted to the exclamation point. You know, like, this child will be stranded/lack important medication/have to go to school naked if I do not do this thing now. Or the students plates in the incubator need to come out before the weekend or their experiment will be pooched...

My daily log is mostly a to-do list. I've never gotten the hang of the monthly and future logs. I think my digital calendar substitutes for that in my life.
I still can't see the ! signifier as anything but AAAAAAA! Crisis! AAAAAAAAA! (So that's what I use it for.)
nothing to spark action like making it feel like a crisis!
@@bulletjournal Oh it usually IS one if I've resorted to the exclamation point. You know, like, this child will be stranded/lack important medication/have to go to school naked if I do not do this thing now. Or the students plates in the incubator need to come out before the weekend or their experiment will be pooched...
what is "11.16.T"?
November 16, Tuesday
@@bulletjournal Thank you! I'm assuming Thursday would be "TH"
I've been trying to get good at this! I love it but it's frustrating when it doesn't feel smooth and natural yet!
I came here after watching Dr Rangan Chatterjee's latest video.
Hey, Ryder! Que tal esse curso em Portugues (Brazil)?

28/3.
the thing is: I dont know. I cannot see a purpose, that why it feels like a useless practice.
What do you mean? Where do you not see a purpose?
It's random I know... But you are beautiful...
😭writes in Journal, another youtuber who has to make use Kevin to as a example for bad luck
I tried bullet journaling once. I became so confused I gave up. It makes journaling more complicated than it needs to be.
I'm curious about your BuJo journey - how did it begin?
Please tell me you did not go to google images for this, because that would overwhelm anyone. You don't have to make it cutely or creative or complex. It can be boring and simple and easy.
Without a PURPOSE practice can seem meaningless... The sound of so many pennies dropping right now...
I seriously dislike the video inserts into your talk. Many of them seem to undercut your point.
You creep me out. It's like there's no real person behind those eyes, no soul. Cool method though.
