I started doing 5-minute journal at the beginning of the year. Became quite obsessed with journaling, I'd say its one of the best habits a man can have. Life changing, always being aware of your position in life, where you've been, where you're going. And thanks for the Tools of titans it was a blast reading it. :)
Yes, this 5 min journal is one of the tools that we can use daily to balance negativity and chaos. This helps us to look for the things we are thankful for even in the worst of times. And it's free and quick to do.
My reasoning for journaling was listening to Kobe Bryant talk about how he would rewatch his games was literally right after his game. I started a new career, and in learning my new craft I thought, “ok I can’t record myself or vlog at work, but I can write everything down that happens at work”
LOVE YOU TIM, reading the 4 hour workweek 10+ years ago changed my life forever, and now I get to help other people build their dream lives, you are an absolute legend keep inspiring a generation 💪🤑🔥
Everyone is taking good notes here - so Tim you're onto something. QUICK TIP/CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM: Try writing your morning pages in lyrical prose or rhyme, you'd be surprised at how it unlocks your your ability to navigate your subconscious undercurrents in a higher dimensional flow of language. Essentially, push the limits of morning pages to it's ultimate goal of helping you break through your linguistic and spiritual boundaries, culminating in the totality of your personality surfaced and integrated into your awareness - individuation as Jung would say. 💜
OMG morning pages... literally saved my life! I was so dumb I thought the ‘Artist way’ (dragon on the front) was going to help me draw.... next day opening the book ... I was like, WHAT!!! Totally got me out of my head... so grateful 🙏!
I have a bullet journal. Has an index, future log, grid format and 3 page markers. I use it for a habit tracker and to reference throughout the week, month and year. Highly effective for me.
What most don't know is that the "Morning Pages" Julia Cameron wrote about in "The Artist's Way" originated from B. Wilson, co-founder of AA. He used to write to 'higher power' (whatever that is for you...God / Creator / Universe ...) with his wife & they would share afterwards. It's originally called 2-way prayer.
Tip for the 5 minute journal. Instead of answering the question "what would make today great?" change it to "what can I do to make today great?" The former question implies that you are expecting something to happen, and passively waiting for something great to happen during your day. Take action with the latter question.
Awesome tip! Thanks :) I'd love to make my own version of the journal because I'd also change a few things but I have no idea how to make a custom journal lol.
@@waltz9230 I just bought a blank journal and I the prompts in each day (I didn't want to commit the $$ for the journal without knowing if I would benefit from the practice or even commit to it. Just write in your prompts, fill in your answers, and go.

Thanks for this video Tim. I've been wanting to write my thoughts more and I struggle with achieving this. One of my main blockages is the belief that what I write isn't important enough, that my better thoughts disappear. Seeing that you just go ahead with writing things that may seem pointless at the time has encouraged me to just get on with it. Also seeing that you embrace a "hokey" idea like the 5-minute journal has changed my own opinion on it's worth, I will start using it and see how it goes.
I have a long-form journal, bullet journal, and recently started 5-minute journal. In my bullet journal, I'll jot down write notes and personal thoughts sometimes. In my long-form journal, I make my own notebooks and try to make it just the right length for a month, starting the first day of my period. So no matter what happened last month, that's gone on my shelf, and it's time for a fresh month.
Loved it all Tim! One recommendation for next time - draft up a visual notebook example. You explained in great detail but would still love to see a visual example.

No you don’t have to organize journal notes. You just need to let your Hand write. ( tactile muscle memory ) You don’t need to save most of what you are Just reducing your overactive, Overthinking mind. Eventually your mind will unfold all of the Folds in the grey matter. And you can build clarity without anxiety Not in one day. My best mind is when I first wake up, But the thoughts are fast and brief, and tend to evaporate if I wait It’s that euphoric wake up, becoming awake AWAKe and Aware and in the wowie Wow I am Awake Wow I’m awake These are by far the best thoughts to try and capture When you are feeling most Alive and Becoming Alert No one needs an index these first thoughts The stuff that is important will be recalled , and reinforced when your bunked up clarity becomes cool because you are only unfolding subconscious grey matters of What will be from (repressed) personal experience.
My monkey mind needed to be reminded of these cool tools today. Morning pages, and journaling in general, truly is a superpower. It gives you clarity and relieves anxiety.
If you enjoy journalling and learning new languages, I encourage to take your notes in the language you want to learn. It has helped me a lot with studying french. Thanks Tim for the great content you provide to us !
Hi, could you share where you have been learning french from? I have been practicing on Duolingo since 115 days and wondering if its the right resource to use.
Wow. The index idea is awesome. I’ll definitely use it. I already create my own index on books, adding pages or stories I’d like to come back that are not specified on the main index. using it for personal notebooks will be super useful Thx Tim, reading “the 4-hour workweek” changed my life.
Morning pages are the best , I did for 3 years it even help me with my depression and my anxiety that thanks god I don’t have it anymore. Everybody should read the artist way
Last year, I stopped using ALL media that involves photo uploading and "documenting" my day.... I took that 'extra' time and returned to practicing the piano daily. I also read Moby Dick, started gardening, recorded an original blues piece, and improved my skills at trimming my horse's hooves. .....boy oh boy how I don't miss Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.
"No hurry, no pause" is actually a well known popular saying here in Spain - and I think that it is also said in many places in South America: sin prisa pero sin pausa :)
I've hear it as: "Slow is smooth and smooth is faster than fast". In terms of going fast, you'll make mistakes that need to be corrected or will otherwise further lead you off course.
@@kochevar99 I'm the opposite. I never take notes, even during school. I keep everything in my head and I'm very anxious!! I don't know if there's such thing as hypographia

I've kept journals / to do list / sketch book / doodles / whatever since I was a kid. I have a library of them that I probably would never show to anybody but cherish and will never get rid of. It's interesting to be able to go back and see what my mind was doing at certain times of life, and how much the initial impressions of events have changed in my memory (shockingly sometimes). So happy to see someone else doing the exact same thing. You're brave to share yours, so thank you! Keep up the inspiring work :D
I have an image of Tim during the French revolutionary terror adorned with lavish white-powdered wig climbing the scaffold, then crawling backwards into the guillotine...
Thank you Tim! When I feel down, or need a dose of inspiration, I watch your videos or read your books. I also started writing 5-min journal in 2017 after I watched your youtube video sharing about it. That year is one of the darkest moments of my life, and this 5-min journal helped me to look for small things or small reasons that I was thankful for (despite all the chaos and fears and anxiety I was facing during those times). Thank you, thank you, thank you Tim.
I finish every night with two questions. Things I'm grateful for today 1.2.3. Celebration time. Things I need to take more care 1.2.3. Help me to get ready for tomorrow.
Thank You, I'm 26 years old and I've been into journaling since my teenage life - not even sure how to do it properly until today! I'm very grateful to your video as powerful tool to quality life.
I know it was a random thought but the fact that you even had an idea to just give your money away as a form of feeling less anxious says a lot about you. Many can’t even remotely get themeselves to think like that ❤️
Thanks Tim. I switched to notes on iPad because of handwriting recognition. Game changer for referencing notes. Have you ever considered going this route and why?
Tim, I was reading your 4 hour work week when I finally had it. I was being abused in a job and I was so unhappy. I quit my job, sold my house, and put all my energy into building myself up. It's been just over a year and I've designed my own journal. I'm working in getting it out to people as a free download right now, but I just started my own youtube channel. It's all inspired by you. I figure whatever i do, my youtube and putting myself out there to people is a great first step. I finally have the confidence. I'm an avid journaler too, I've just translated ot into video. Thank you for the inspiration!!
This makes me feel much less worried about my journaling. In 18 years of having multiple journals etc, often times I felt it was so detailed and structured, as it was a kind of compulsive disorder. This looks similar to the practices I developed for myself. Thanks
For years, my problem has been that I never seem to go back and review what I’ve written in the past. For a long time, that was because I was scared to revisit whatever pain or anguish I’d been going through previously. Now that things are more settled in my life, it’s more that I’m always busy and moving on to the next thing. There are never enough hours in the day. How do you work a review process into an already-full schedule? Is the benefit worth the effort?
Review your now and journals at the end of the week for 30 minutes. You'll be surprised the insights you gain from seeing your thoughts on a pattern days later. You could potentially see how you are growing and where your focus is.

Types of note-taking:
1. Brainstorm / Insight Notebook - for interesting goals and ideas
2. Morning Pages - aka brain vomit; for reducing anxiety and worries
3. 5-minute Journal - for focus, appreciation, and keeping anything simple
Key to note-taking: multiple passes and constantly asking what did I think was important or cool thru different times, so you’re not just spewing onto the page and then forgetting it
Example:
1st pass: when you first took notes
2nd pass: maybe a week or a month after the note was taken; underscore ideas you find interesting at this time
3rd pass: maybe a quarter after; encircle ideas you find interesting at this time
Action item for me: add this on my brainstorm / insight notebook 👍
Thanks
Thanks, I was looking for a summary comment
Amazing abstract.
To me the morning brain vomit would *induce* anxiety, not relieve it!
Much better to start the day on a positive note!

No you don’t have to organize journal notes.
You just need to let your Hand write.
( tactile muscle memory )
You don’t need to save most of what you
are
Just
reducing your overactive,
Overthinking mind.
Eventually your mind will unfold all of
the Folds in the grey matter.
And you can build clarity without anxiety
Not in one day.
My best mind is when I first wake up,
But the thoughts are fast and brief, and tend to evaporate if I wait
It’s that euphoric wake up, becoming awake
AWAKe and Aware
and in the wowie Wow I am Awake Wow I’m awake
These are by far the best thoughts to try and capture
When you are feeling most Alive and Becoming Alert
No one needs an index these first thoughts
The stuff that is important
will be recalled , and reinforced when your bunked up clarity becomes cool
because you are only unfolding subconscious grey matters of
What will be from (repressed) personal experience.
Tres bien! :)
That is fantastic advice, unlocked a new realm. Спасибо большое, y buenas tardes:)
Good advice. Thanks!
Hi, could you share where you have been learning french from? I have been practicing on Duolingo since 115 days and wondering if its the right resource to use.
@@wojciechptasinski2541 Thank you friend! These resources seem really helpful!
Wow. The index idea is awesome. I’ll definitely use it.
I already create my own index on books, adding pages or stories I’d like to come back that are not specified on the main index.
using it for personal notebooks will be super useful
Thx Tim, reading “the 4-hour workweek” changed my life.
What is the 4 hour workweek about?

Morning pages are the best , I did for 3 years it even help me with my depression and my anxiety that thanks god I don’t have it anymore. Everybody should read the artist way
Glad it helped you out
Siel8387 thank you 🥰
hanane boulisfane I would love helping you out, but I’m not a native English speaker , my mother tongue is Spanish
Love Morning Pages, they constantly help me realize the decisions I need to make!
"No hurry, no pause" is actually a well known popular saying here in Spain - and I think that it is also said in many places in South America: sin prisa pero sin pausa :)
shhhh
The famous “slowly but surely”
Ancora y delfín.... Se ahí vienen esas frases :)
I've hear it as: "Slow is smooth and smooth is faster than fast". In terms of going fast, you'll make mistakes that need to be corrected or will otherwise further lead you off course.
Hypergraphia is great. Our brain needs expression to function to its optimal and writing is a great way of expressing.
I think hypergraphia is an actual clinical disorder though. Not just the desire to write a lot.
I think I may have it too, but my channel is my keyboard...
@@kochevar99 I'm the opposite. I never take notes, even during school. I keep everything in my head and I'm very anxious!! I don't know if there's such thing as hypographia
@@kochevar99from wiki : " Hypergraphia is a behavioral condition characterized by the intense desire to write or draw. Forms of hypergraphia can vary in writing style and content. It is a symptom associated with temporal lobe changes in epilepsy, which is the cause of the Geschwind syndrome, a mental disorder."
Tim is someone I've learned alot of value from and has helped me develop new healthy habits. Great mentor
Justin Tackett Indeed! Tim is a valuable person as a “virtual” mentor of sorts.. a great teacher to us all!
Tim: "cut off feet"
Me: O.K, you've got my attention.
I found this inexplicably hilarious
I have an image of Tim
during the French revolutionary terror
adorned with lavish white-powdered wig
climbing the scaffold, then
crawling backwards into the guillotine...
You've been a blessing to many people's lives. Bless you more Tim!
I thought I was the only person who kept different notebooks for different topics. It seems I'd be adding two more. Thanks for sharing these tips
I finish every night with two questions.
Things I'm grateful for today 1.2.3. Celebration time.
Things I need to take more care 1.2.3. Help me to get ready for tomorrow.
Tim: this notebook is for one of the few exercises I like to do when I'm overwhelmed..
Me: so like, all the time?!
Takeaway: I need to show my feet more gratitude. They are really useful for walking and standing.
😂😂😂
Thank You, I'm 26 years old and I've been into journaling since my teenage life - not even sure how to do it properly until today! I'm very grateful to your video as powerful tool to quality life.
Have those yellow legal pads in every room in the house, never know when you'll have one of those "eureka" moments, lol!
I know it was a random thought but the fact that you even had an idea to just give your money away as a form of feeling less anxious says a lot about you. Many can’t even remotely get themeselves to think like that ❤️
“The Four Hour Journal”
Thanks Tim. I switched to notes on iPad because of handwriting recognition. Game changer for referencing notes. Have you ever considered going this route and why?
Sometimes I make ketchup
Tim, I was reading your 4 hour work week when I finally had it. I was being abused in a job and I was so unhappy. I quit my job, sold my house, and put all my energy into building myself up. It's been just over a year and I've designed my own journal. I'm working in getting it out to people as a free download right now, but I just started my own youtube channel. It's all inspired by you. I figure whatever i do, my youtube and putting myself out there to people is a great first step. I finally have the confidence. I'm an avid journaler too, I've just translated ot into video. Thank you for the inspiration!!
He really helped me too. I haven't started a youtube channel yet, but maybe I will. Slow and steady is the key.
I quit my job too!!!
@@bobyarnly128 it is, I just started but am slowly chipping away at it - doing it for a whole year, every week a new challenge

Amazing, good job! Your journey sounds profound! Keep sharing it, documentation is important
