Yes!!!! He offers a course, for purchase, called Writing for Being and it was completely full of teaching like this where we examined our values, intentions, and goals. It was life changing and left me with practical tools to I make meaningful change. I felt like Ryder lead me through one big therapy session. 😂
AND…. Don’t wait until you retire to get a hobby! If you like an activity you will make time for it. You don’t need to hike the Appalachian trail the first time you go hiking! You don’t have to make an entire quilt. Sew a seam, take a photo, hike to the corner of the street, take a single step to start.
Yes! Work should not be our entire lives. I see this all the time. My retirees that continue to have purpose- friends, family, hobbies, etc. thrive while others decline so quickly it’s staggering.
Thanks! The amount of incredibly significant and motivating information you provided in about 6 minutes is incredible. This is a video to be reviewed many times.
This is pure gold life advice for everyone. I have forwarded this to my sons who are in their late teens and starting life on their own. Thank you Ryder.
Similar to The Four Agreements ~ Miguel Ruiz: Be true to your word, Don’t make assumptions, Always do your best, and last but not least, Don’t take anything personally. It’s a great read and a great guide on how to have healthy relationships, including the relationship with yourself.
There are so many people who need this advice. Even young adults can benefit. One doesn't have to wait until retirement to find a hobby or what they love to do. Action becomes the purpose in the end. ✨
This came across my feed at just the right moment. Setting up my next bujo; getting back to basics with a clearer sense of what to include and how to record it in my notes. Hobby notes get their own binders so my bujo doesn’t overflow. I could put them there, and do in a pinch (get the thing written down before the thought and my understanding flit away into the void)
6:25 I would add use the word "no". Tell others no. Guard your time so that you can say yes to somethings. You may have said it but it needs to be said simplely, clear, and strong.
I've been Bullet Journaling, based on your original UA-cam videos, for 8 years now, but just now took the time to read your book and add so much more "practice". It's making an enormous difference as I take the steps for a big career change, taking some big risks in midlife. Appreciate you so much!
There are so many bullet journal channels. Most are only looking on how to lay things out, with a little bit of advice mixed in. This, however, is SO much better than those. Thank you for such amazing words.
If you liked this, watch his other videos too. He is the creator of the Bujo system, and over the past decade, he has created a lot of good stuff! Best.
Thank you Ryder for this wise reminder ! I think that sometimes, we are not true to other or to ourselves because we are afraid of being judged for who we truly are. But it's silly.
It feels VERY real, and by the end of our lives, with so much perspective... it does seem silly. I try to keep that in mind whenever the "shoulds" start to come through...
Unfortunately, peoples' judgements can carry consequences, so navigating our personal journey, living intentionally, being true to ourselves and creating our own reality can feel tricky and like walking a fine line..
I've been bullet journaling for about four years and something I've learned is that I can't set up individual questions that have to be answered regularly, like "Write one thing you learned today to be better tomorrow." There's no way I would have an answer to that every single day, or even every week. Any time I've tried to include any feature like this in my bullet journal, I end up forcing myself to come up with answers just to keep that feature consistent in my journal and not leave blank spaces. The result is that my answers are not meaningful and the feature ends up serving no purpose. Even a gratitude list doesn't work for me because after a few days, I've already listed everything I love about my life and there's nothing left to list so it just ends up being the same list every day and the redundancy just makes it feel like a chore. I love the idea of bullet journaling and writing daily in general, but I can't seem to figure out exactly what I should be writing and what features to include in my journal. I want my bullet journal to be a keepsake to look back on, and it certainly is that, but I also want to use it to gain more clarity on what I want and how to get it. I'm still trying to figure out how to set it up to serve those purposes.
Same here. I am inconsistent and easily bored with routine journals, so I have a blank journal in which I write whatever comes to mind. It doesn’t have to be every day but as often as I can. Be it happy or sad or in gratitude…..it will go down in ink. Occasionally I have just used random quotes and comments people have made as prompts especially on my phone journal. Either way that system seems to work best for me right now. So there is no best way to journal except your way to which you default.
@@HeatherHale I tried them and they were a nightmare. I loved the rest of the book but the morning pages were nothing but a chore and a headache. I did them religiously for over a month and finally realized this is not worth whatever the benefit was supposed to be.
This is tangential to your point, but when I was doing gratitude journaling, I decided it was okay to list the same thing on several consecutive days so long as I could still actually feel grateful for it when I wrote it down. I think the goal is not to come up with a list of every individual thing that you're grateful for, but to take the time to experience the feeling of gratitude.
I go back and forth--sometimes the repetition is perfect for me, other times it makes me crazy. One thing that helps when I can't do the repetition is to have a list of other questions or prompts that require you to check in with yourself and just do one of those instead....
Read the book in its Spanish version, love the value of the method and the simplicity. Applying the BuJo in my life these last two months has positively changed me. I was looking for ways to revisit some of the book concepts and found this channel very helpful in assimilating my daily BuJo practice. Thank you so much Carroll and community!💓💓💓

What an amazing video! Thanks for sharing this. I was able to take a break during a rough morning to look at myself and get some better perspective on my day and myself.
someone once told me that if I am feeling lonely, then it means that someone somewhere needs my help. Find a volunteer opportunity. go do something for someone, even if no one notices.
The original bujo method is the only one that works for me. However I have a question, how could we use bullet journal to set up a monthly budget? Would it be a collection?
Ryder Carroll is kind of like the therapist I didn't know I needed.
I agree!!!

Therapist, father, brother, boyfriend, guru… Actually he’s the most honest guru out there…
My mother was a nursing home nurse. Her takeaway was that people need hobbies. People without hobbies had more severe mental decline after retirement.
Watching friends resist retirement because of the fear of "what do I do if I don't work" is very humbling and definitely underlines this point

I appreciate you, thank you
Very high concentration of content there. I’m glad I was unsatisfied enough to mindlessly distract myself on UA-cam so that I could discover this.
haha oh the mixed feelings about this! I'm glad you stumbled upon this video :)
Is there a "love" button somewhere here? "Like" is not enough!
I agree.

Wow that's amazing - I hope it helps
I'm very grateful and impressed by the spirituality you can share in very simple way.

amazing!

This was the greatest, most succinct speech on self care. I will listen to it again several times to make sure I got it all. Thank you.

#1 I don't know anyone like that anymore. #2 I'm myself and know myself. #3 I have integrity and try to treat others well. Good advice though.
felt like a podcast, you can put this in one for a daily pickup.
Yes for friend phone dates !
great message, once again :) thanks !

Awesome, TY
Good one 🙂👍
I surround myself with no one and that's been my life solution.
Your best one yet. By far.
I just wish you could have spared me from the click bait in the newsletter ;)
We gotta pay the video editor!! 😅 but I appreciate you watching, thank you
Gracias gracias
Great content..❤
Are you a therapist? Lol you sound so much like mine. Thank you so much for these bite sized reminds. Hugs
Ryan would be possible you add subtitles in english? And th em the UA-cam will use the traslate to portuguese and outhers language 😊

Why are all your videos out of sync with the audio? I thought it was just the first one I watched but it seems to be all of them.

That would be a great example of a collection :)
Maybe I don’t want someone to find this journal after I die.
Very good one! Thanks a lot! Is there a minimal gap between the audio and the video? Something is just a little bit off here🤔
Hola, ojalá lo puedan subtitular al español
Focus. . . I was focused on how the audio was off from the video by a couple milliseconds.
Great video though! Awesome insights.
yeah it was quite distracting to me 😅
I don’t HAVE anyone who makes a positive impact on my life.
