  • This is a video from my series, Grow vegetables in buckets and bags, which is best? Its a compilation from several videos starting with Beetroot seedlings growing in a bucket and a bag right through to harvest and weigh in 'for good measure'. If you don't have an allotment, don't have a big back yard or garden this might be something you may want to try in a limited space. As far as which is best, I'm not so sure. From this small trial I would recommend growing Beetroot in buckets or bags. Both gave a good return with not much between the two.
    I did a whole series of these videos. This was a first for me growing in bags and I wanted to see if they were better than buckets for growing veg in. I did Grow potatoes in buckets and bags which is best : • Grow Potatoes in bucke... I did Grow beetroot in buckets and bags which is best : • Grow Beetroot in Bucke... I did Grow onions in buckets and bags which is best : • Grow Onions from seed ... I did Grow carrots in buckets and bags which is best : • Grow Carrots in bucket... I did Grow tomatoes in buckets and bags which is best : • Grow Tomatoes The fin... I did Grow courgettes in buckets and bags which is best: • Grow Courgettes Zucchi... I did Grow zucchinis in buckets and bags which is best: • Grow Courgettes Zucchi... I did Grow cucumbers in buckets and bags which is best: • Grow Cucumbers in Buck... I did Grow parsnips in buckets and bags which is best: • Grow Parsnips in Bucke... I did Grow garlic in buckets and bags which is best: • Grow Garlic in Buckets...

    Great video Jim! Pretty much looks like a draw to me. Lovely beets. I love beetroot greens with sauteed onions and bechemel sauce. Yum! I think one patch of potatoes are ready to harvest soon so am excited about that. The thrill of the reveal! Never know what you get until you dig them up! The only above-ground vegetable that compares to that IMO are courgettes which have a magic of their own, and squash at times. I had to watch the weighing-in of your beetroot in bags 3 times to see their weight...I was transported by your fantastic music and dancing all over my kitchen and living room to the amusement, I'm sure, of crows, squirrels, and hummingbirds. Lol. I think I scared the wild rabbits and other birds away!😄 Wonderful foot-tapping, knee-slapping music it is! Yes, warm of your tea and have another. Pretty flowers too. Blessings to you and the missus from across the pond.👵🐠🐠🌿🐟🐟🎶

    I am currently growing beetroots in buckets and they appear to be doing well. They are golden burpee I believe. The beets on the ground have signs of nibble from slugs or something else. If I get your result I will be happy like pappy!

    So rewarding to go out to the garden and pick fresh veg, that you grew
    for a meal or two or more. Seed to garden to plate. Nice haul Jim.

    They are beautiful! I have just a few going and they just started heading up a bit.
    I grew/am growing(ugh cant do Grammer in the mornings)turnips for the first time and oh my they have been beautiful and making a nice root. We've picked and ate several for dinner already.
    I like to roast my beets like jacket potatoes and just peel/slather with a bit of good butter and enjoy 😉

    I think you're right-it was an honorable draw. Those were lovely beets. Do you eat the greens? They looked so good-perfectly crisp and no damage. I'll be interested in how the 12 beets in a bucket do as compared to these. Do you ever weigh your beets the way you do with potatoes? You'll certainly get out more than you put in and that's a success in my book but I'm curious.

    In terms of seven beets (yes I’m American) the fabric bag ones were bigger I think because the sides of the bucket are more rigid. I will concede they weren’t that much bigger.

    Seems to me it comes down to longevity (buckets?) or maybe watering. I have had one year of bags and am worried that they will disintegrate after a few years. More plastic waste for the landfills. That's the ultimate test. How old are your water buckets James?

    • @HomeGrownVeg
      @HomeGrownVeg  2 роки тому

      The older buckets should have gone to land fill about 5+ years ago. I rescued them and have grown vegetables in them every year since. This is my first year trying fabric bags. Jim.
