I’ve got to say it Mr Simpson you are one of the best guitarists I’ve EVER heard, including the well known greats. You can shred when needed but also play with so much feel. I can listen to you for absolutely ages! And you inspire me to want to play better. You deserve a much bigger audience! Thanks so much! 🤙🏼🎸
I have a love hate relationships with LP's. I love the way they sound (in proper hands) but hate the way they mess me up as I struggle to get the best out of them. I shall stick to listening to an expert play them - cue Dave Simpson !
Yeah, sometimes you have to fight the beast. Not the easiest guitar to play. But when music tells Dave how to respond, the outcome is just magic. Love your comments, Dave deserves it too. He is a big influence on me.
I’m the same only one I have a hankering for is a good top p90 . But I recently bought a used gold top inspired by Gibson gold top Les Paul and it’s an incredible guitar plays amazing ,sounds amazing definitely no worse than any Gibson I’ve played it’s bonkers really for £400 the fit and finish on it is perfect but they don’t do a p90 in the new ones epiphone range 🤷🏻♂️
We don't come for the hardware review. We come to commune with Dave's mind meld while he plays. He feels something when he plays, and we feel something when he plays.
I have that exact guitar (even it being a 2010) but the finish is darker. Absolutely amazing guitar. I picked it up in 2012 in the second hand section of a music store (which I believe makes me the second owner of it). I struggled for years trying to keep the thing in tune (which tells me why the previous owner got tired pretty quick of the thing due to it never staying in tune). This past year took the plunge and tied to figure out the tuning instability. Turns out it was just the nut. Did a clean up of the G B and high E slots and the thing is absolutely solid in staying in tune now. The guitar sounds absolutely amazing through any amp and is one of my favourites to play. 🤘🏻
The nut is the first place to look when you have tuning instability, especially on a Gibson style headstock. Gibsons have a sharp, complex 3D bend in the strings as they go through the nut, so it takes some skill to cut the nut properly to prevent the strings from binding. I have a 2015 Gibson Les Paul Classic sprint run, which has a metal zero-fret nut. Originally it was bronze, but that was too soft and wore prematurely. Gibson tech support sent me a free replacement titanium nut. The tuning is extremely stable. I went all out and put on a Schaller roller bridge and Kluson Revolution locking tuners. I also put a dab of Super lube grease on all points where the strings might rub. Super Lube is inexpensive white food-grade grease impregnated with PTFE. This guitar has the most stable tuning I have seen.
I tuned in to hear a demo. What I got was this unbelievable rock solo. THAT is putting the guitar through its paces. Now, I finally know what the guitar is capable of. Awesome playing and perfect demo, Dave. Wow!
❤ probably been said, weren't traditionals actually 'Standards' but without the modernised features of the Standards at the time? I love my '91 Custom with original '57 classic pickups, most comfortable neck I've ever played, so much sustain and resonance, beautiful tone, I know I'll be playing it until I pass it on to my children.
I have a 2017 Traditional that I found in a pawn shop a few years ago. Looks just like your friends here. Just a smidge more lemon color. It’s my numero 1 Les Paul. AMAZE-BALLZ.
ABSOLUTELY CAPTIVATING POWERFUL PERFORMANCE!!! ALOT OF GILMORE IN THERE!!! BRILLIANT!!! HAD ME ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT!!! THAT GUITAR DID SOMETHING TO YOU!!! 👍👍👍
Cool Dave i have an 2016 Lp Traditional with the same top, mines been re-modelled on Jimmy P No2, yes you do have to work the tone/Vol controls but worth it, stick it through your Sv20 Amp, classic tones, The pick ups are the unpotted! 57 classics. the Les Paul Classic and Traditional are getting collectable and sort after now. Best wishes Ian
i miss the days when i heard this on the radio and rushed to the store to buy it !!!! THIS IS FN EPIC AND THAT BREAK AT AROUND 35 MINUTES IN LEFT ME FLOORED. MAN I DONT KNOW WHAT TO SAY. PLEASE MAKE ALBUMS FIND THE BEST ARTIST FOR THE COVERS! Youre like the Highlander bro, my good Lord!! THIS IS WHAT I NEEDED THANK YOU!
I got a 2014 Traditional yesterday. Last night, I played until I was falling asleep with it in my hands. This morning, I put my glasses on and reached for her again. I'm transformed by this thing. It's a chunker for sure but I'm 6'5" and 240 so the heft doesn't bother me. The thick neck works for me as well. Not the greatest time in Gibson's history but they made some incredible stuff nevertheless. I did have to tune it a LOT but you have to know that going in with a LP. Maybe a nut replacement will be in order down the line. The vibe and finish of the thing just make me giggle though.
By the time I finished watching your improv, without exageration your hands actually grew to take up half my computer screen. These 2 enormous hands, assaulting the neck of that Les Paul into submission. That was awesome!!!! That! !!!!is what I want played at my funeral
My 2015 LP Less+ has the same '57 Classic pups as 'your' Traditional and it sounds absolutely immense. I thought your mega-Jam on the Jem Jr was good but this one wins hands down. Top Job!👏
I walked around in the hills listening and jamming along to this all day EPIC!!!! and then that keybvoard break forget it epic legendary EPIC. Please turn this into like a half hour song that has this break in it OMG THIS WAS HEAVEN MAN BRAVO STANDING OVATION!!!! I feel your pain man and this is one the top 10 jams of all time for me. I hope to support you and buy merch man and pray you make albums. IM A HUGE FAN just discovered you a few days ago what a gift! THIS WAS INSANE!!!!! EPIC LEGENDARY!!!!
Love my LP took years to get it and its a keeper, sometimes nothing else reaches the spot, that said I still love my £40 second hand Westwood strat copy! Just depends on the day. Great vid Dave incredible playing as always! Awesome :)
As a 60 year old, I wish I had at least 10% of your passion as a guitarist, I have great gear but do not spend enough time with it, time to change, and get like you Dave.
You turn every guitar that you pick up into a work of art. That LP is stunning 🥰. The honey color on the front is just beautiful but the wood grain on the back is unbelievable. I really like the binding all the way around. I have a 2014 Studio in Manhattan Midnight that is painted dark blue on the back and I know it would look better if the wood grain showed. That guitar you’re playing sounds fantastic. Thanks for sharing. 👍☮️🌞🎸❤️
I've just bought a 2009 traditional pro in black for my lad. I'm a fan of fancy tops but this was at an astounding price, I won't say how much exactly, but I was in the market for a 2nd hand studio and only had to add a small amount. The pro is the same body with a 60s neck profile which luckily he prefers as I wasn't turning it down, and Grover locking machine heads which makes restringing easier for me 😂 It's going to be a rocking Christmas 👍👍👍
I’m lucky enough to have a 2019 50s reissue Tobacco burst. Bit chunky at first as I’m a Strat&Tele guy at heart. Neck pickup is a bit muddy for me but the bridge is complete and utter POWER .. 🧨 🔥🤘
I'm a big fan of fenders, I've got two teles and a strat so no bias here, I think an LP or an LP style guitar suits your style of playing, I always enjoy hearing you play these the most.
I have a 2003 Standard Plus 50 neck in Honey Burst (mine is a bit darker) that has a nice maple top just like yours. 57 Classic pickups: 7.6k neck and uncovered 7.5k bridge. Monster guitar tone! Very well built... the only thing is that it weighs 4.5 kg but the resonant and sustain it has unplugged is worth it. In addition, this guitar belonged to an excellent British rock-blues guitarist.
Hi Dave, England's own Buckethead skill wise, (praise indeed) with your own unique style as only UK rockers know how ( and Ireland of course due to Rory), it even took the UK to recognise Jimi's brilliance initially? I know (leaving your God given talent and hard work aside these comments will create some backlash as there are some great US players, Zappa Snr and jnr, Lowell George, Larry Carlton, Buckethead, etc...even Slash was born in the UK? But considering the immense talent pool in the US, we gave the world Eric, Pagey, Blackmore, Kossoff, Ronson and too many others to list from this, God's country that you could drop into one of the great lakes)..I have a 2011 Les Paul , beautiful natural finish with a sustain that sings forever BUT it weighs as much as a Ford Ka!! I suppose one has to sacrifice personal comfort for that sound? Is this lovely LP heavy? Keep on rocking.....please can you list in the description box what amp, affects etc you use on your epic one man musical voyages...what for example are you using about 42mins in? Sounds orchestral/truly epic and could be a film sound track.
Looks like a honey burst or an unburst. It's Beautiful. I've a 60s standard Bourbon burst with Burstbuckers which are better than the classics for metal. I'd love to try play the thicker 50s traditional neck.
My #1 guitar since the day I bought it in 2009, is a 2009 Traditional LP. 59 Classic in the neck and BB3 on the bridge. It's a bit different specs and over the years I've upgraded to a bone nut and raised the neck pickup's pole pieces to clean up some of the mud, but I still haven't found anything to replace it. I have other guitars, I always just winding up playing this one...
I don't and i never owned a Gibson Les Paul , the most close i have is the Ibanez AR725 what is an amazing guitar . I been looking for some time to get one between the new tributes or Standard hp . I do love the simplicity of the Tributes they look great but decided for the Standard Hp. Right now working hard picking up much extra shifts i can at work to save for the Gibson Les Paul Standard Hp hopefully i will have it in September . I love your playing , every guitar you touch they sound like magic . Two guitar that i would love to see you playing is the same as mine the Ibanez AR725 and my dream guitar the Ricky Turner model 1
U can get Dave murrays 2010 les paul traditional with the zebra pickups from epiphone ...the exact same model with the same honyburst and stripe design with the epiphone trad pro (the very first ones in hony burst and zebra stripe humbuckers with the exact same copper colour tone knobs ...u just need to add the floyd rose like David did and u will have the epiphone traditional wich is the same design as his gibson les paul traditional ...they both came out 2010 ....have a look at Daves les paul trad and then see the epiphone trad pro honyburst ...i know u get the trad pro 2,3,4 but they came out together in the first original ones so check the first ones ...well worth the mony
I’m so glad I found your channel via Andertons channel! Our stories are similar , except your guitar playing is light years beyond mine. Thanks for sharing!
I have had a few great guitars imo. CS Strat, CS junior, but the one i would save first is my 2016 non weight relief tobacco Les Paul Traditional. i dont like what the brand stands for these days, but it's an absolute tone monster
I have a 2010 LP Studio. It's black with gold hardware. I'm not posh enough for a Standard or Traditional. Maybe someday I can get a Studio Plus with a flame top. Whatever it is, I've got to have the fat neck.
It seems that particular finish they call 'Honey Burst' - and it does fit, golden hues, it looks gorgeous Dave, if you only had one guitar I think that one would fit the bill.
Hi Dave Loved your tone at 19 minutes in. I used to have a Hohner LP59 but had to cut down collection and kept my Strat copy. Was thinking about getting a cheapish LP59 but like low distortion tones. Can lowish end instruments achieve these sounds or is it only real Gibsons that will clean up like that. Do you think I'd be better going for a Semi Accoustic like the Hartwood Revival you reviewed a while back? Please let me hear your wisdom oh Gravy One
reason why you prefer 57's - alnico 2 rocks ;) it's hard to find a bad set of alnico 2 pups and it's hard to find a good set of alnico 5 pups ;) imho of course, regards
hey dave that was awesome!! what was the effect you were using here through this whole part 37:27 to give that keyboard/ strings sound? sounded so much like the real thing. beautiful.
the LP traditional is a sleeper guitar. I had a great one from 2012 that was clearly a better playing guitar than the 2 R9's I've had since. Gibson custom shop always seems to disappoint me
With you liking lower action do your guitar have a slight buzz but doesn’t bum out on bends etc . I make guitars a do a lot of research on how people like their guitars I like slightly higher action but have a couple that are lower a bit buzzy but doesn’t effect it when it’s plugged in Playing action on my builds for people keep me awake at night 😂 messes with my ADHD brain 🤪
Its a LP but its also a Gold Top and I and sure some one will say Slash. My Gibi is slightly older but I also have a couple of heavily customised/upgraded Ephies. Problem with the original Gibson, its way way way too heavy, problem with the Epiphones, there not Gibson. There is just something a little special about them, there probably not the best sounding most versatile certainly not always the easiest to play but oh man do they rock. MY first Epi is upgraded with Wikies hardware/electrics the second is a right beast SD pickups and the electrics/hardware are erm Grover/vintage Gib. Second fav has to be the Telecaster
I've got 3 Les Paul and an sg🤠to be honest they look cool as anything and pure rock roll! I love the style and mojo! But! I just cannot play em out/live, strat everytime 😃l.ps too heavy for me,fragile, easily broken! And I spend more time worrying about the expense value of taking them out to gigs/pubs! Strat+humbucker way more robust and affordable 😁
ohhh that Simpson boy, again ya can hear him at all hours, picking away like that Davy Amadeus what's his name ? Not bad for a noisy neighborhood kid, one day I predict he'll have web site of performances we can all view, he'll be a sort of six string Pied Piper, leading us all to his land for effing Impossible abilities only he and others like him only possess, us muggles will stand along the slide lines and cheer him on, in one solo he'll stay a dragon or take out Lord Voldemort and we'll all leave the theater happy and looking forward to him in his next adventure attacking the new Death Star III (The Tricycle) a Star Wars fable. We're all safe tonight in our homes knowing Capt. Davey from the Gravy Navy is standing guard.
I’ve got to say it Mr Simpson you are one of the best guitarists I’ve EVER heard, including the well known greats. You can shred when needed but also play with so much feel. I cut my teeth on a Strat but all I ever needed was a Tele with a humbucker and an arm and belly cut for comfort
Yeah, sometimes you have to fight the beast. Not the easiest guitar to play. But when music tells Dave how to respond, the outcome is just magic. Love your comments, Dave deserves it too. He is a big influence on me.

Me, too. agreed. from mtw in L.A. USA. Strat player.
If you love them, they'll love you back
(They're not like women)
Everytime I feel like giving up guitar, Dave Simpson shows me what's possible.
Wholeheartedly,
Thank you Dave!
Stick to it fellow earthling. Believe in yourself.
I know Gibson gets a lot of flack around these circles (and some rightfully so), but when you get a good one it's an experience.
We don't come for the hardware review. We come to commune with Dave's mind meld while he plays. He feels something when he plays, and we feel something when he plays.

Bought a Gibson Standard 50s in 2021 and it's by far my favourite guitar.
Bought a Fender American Original 60s Stratocaster as well and it's my second favourite guitar :D

Bravo sir! You made a Gibson very proud.
Beautiful playing. Your vibrato is Kossoffesque.
Imagine having this as a support act before RHCP! 🤯 Only problem is people might leave when RHCP starts. 😅Transcendent qualities to this playing Dave!

I have one of these and although I aint as nearly good as Dave I do know what he means. The sound is fantastic. Thanks for posting this.
The best LPs always do fight back against the player. It's just the order of the universe.
I have a sweet Epiphone ‘desert burst’ that has that beautiful flame top warmth!!!
omg dave twice i had to pick my jaw off the floor you are outstanding sir bless you another amazing video

Perfect connection : one of the best axes ever: G.L.P. + one of the best guitar artists : D.S. = MAG(ic)NIFICENT JAM !!!!! Thank you DS.

I'd love to try play the thicker 50s traditional neck.

what can i say absolute awesome playin you really inspire me thank you dave
Beautiful sound.
Awesome playing Dave mate ✌👍
I have to say I don't get on with L.P's. I like the sound, but nothing else. Glad you are enjoying this on!
I don't and i never owned a Gibson Les Paul , the most close i have is the Ibanez AR725 what is an amazing guitar .
I been looking for some time to get one between the new tributes or Standard hp . I do love the simplicity of the Tributes they look great but decided for the Standard Hp.

Love that Gibson Traditional
Of course it’s stunning it’s a Gibson look at that flame 🔥 lovely
Everytime I feel like giving up guitar, Dave Simpson shows me chicken sausages.
I've got custom 57s in my Epi LP 60s tribute. Nice.
Nice..!! Great guitar. And no weight relief..
When Dave says “look at the flame” I immediately thought of Nigel Tufnel 🙃

Looks a lot like my 2021 Wildwood 50s Standard, except mine has more articulated figuring on the left/bass side. Yep-they're beauties.
Absolutely Disgusting 😂👌🏼🎸🔥
Edit: Bloody hell Dave, I felt that one 12:15 🔥
Sorry, to comment again, but what are the effects that give that orchestral, choirlike sound 42 mins (ish) in? Simply beautiful.
Its a mel 9 pedal. :)
I have the 2008 model since 2010 was set up on some kind of machine .
morning have you got any tips you can pass on how to achieve a beautiful vibrato bless you

Cheaper instruments can acheive anything a gibson can. :)
@@thedavesimpson Thanks #Simpson is God
Not a Gibson fan never have been I'm a huge Epiphone fan I have a 2021 Epiphone Custom Koa Les Paul..never would I take a Gibson over my Epiphone..
Agreed 👍🏻
reason why you prefer 57's - alnico 2 rocks ;) it's hard to find a bad set of alnico 2 pups and it's hard to find a good set of alnico 5 pups ;) imho of course, regards
My 335 has Burstbuckers and those are good gravy but I haven't tried the 57 Classics!
Stunning flame 🔥
Nice sounding guitar that one, I hope it wasn't you who got the chili peppers sick, and I hope you get well soon
hey dave that was awesome!! what was the effect you were using here through this whole part 37:27 to give that keyboard/ strings sound? sounded so much like the real thing. beautiful.
Its a mel 9. :)
@@thedavesimpson awesome i.....want.......one.
Now Dave that's a little bit heavy huh for small guy 😜
Nice playing Dave i enjoyed.
ps: whats that red strat in the background ?
That is a Squier Bullet hardtail strat if I am not mistaken
Its the Ibanez AZES. :)
@@thedavesimpson or that one... I was mistaken m'lord
12:15 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
I had one of these from 2018, it turned up broken from the factory sadly. Nice though.
the LP traditional is a sleeper guitar. I had a great one from 2012 that was clearly a better playing guitar than the 2 R9's I've had since. Gibson custom shop always seems to disappoint me
Hi Dave could we possibly hear this guitar throw your Marshall Plexi
Sadly its gone back. I'll try and get it again at somepoint.
@@thedavesimpson we live in hope
With you liking lower action do your guitar have a slight buzz but doesn’t bum out on bends etc . I make guitars a do a lot of research on how people like their guitars
I like slightly higher action but have a couple that are lower a bit buzzy but doesn’t effect it when it’s plugged in
Playing action on my builds for people keep me awake at night 😂 messes with my ADHD brain 🤪
They don't buzz no. :)
I love you Dave Simpson !!!! I want to meet you as bad as you want to meet John Frusciante! How about we both meet JF together ..... win / win
Hey dave i got a question, how do you get so many amount of guitars? Do you invest money?
This isn't mine this. People lend me a lot of guitars. :)
@@thedavesimpson wow, that's cool, Love your videos man
ohhh that Simpson boy, again ya can hear him at all hours, picking away like that Davy Amadeus what's his name ?
I have a 08 Trd Ice Tea my flame isn’t quite as good tho. My Brother bought it new and it was passed down to me after he passed. I would never sell it
You didn't explain in what way it fought against you?
I explained how at the beginning of the video.
