The shocker strikes back! Good to see Gibson seem to have their shit together again for 2016. The fact that you can now choose different spec options is a huge leap in the right direction!
It's now July of 2022 and I've had my '16 trad for almost 7 years. I've had a few issues with it. First, I had to replace the stock bridge with a "Tone Pros" bridge. The stock one just totally sagged in the middle possibly because I tried the top wrap so that might have been my fault. The other issue I had was that graphtech nut which I swapped out for a bone nut. Added more sustain and playability. Still, not for sale. Oh and I went down a gauge from 10-46(which is the stock gauge it's set up with from the factory) to 9.5-44. It makes it easier to bend strings with my elderly hands. Other than all that, still a keeper.
i am trying to make my way through all of their les paul reviews and the only one so far that sounds better than the 2016 is the 2014 trad. pretty unbelievable they arent 59s
@@patrickderp1044 I restrung it normally. Yeah, I know about top wrapping, not good for the bridge unless you have an aftermarket one. Very happy with the guitar nonetheless.
just got a Trad 2009. I absolutely love it! I already have a R8 VOS 2021 and an Eastman SB59/v. the R8 is just too expensive hehe. but so happy with the Trad. so fun to play and well built. the 2009 is same specs as 2016. keeper for sure, and just a players guitar in every way.
I purchased my 2016 Les Paul Traditional, Traditional, in Honeyburst from Andertons just before Christmas. It is a beautiful guitar and it sounds and plays awesome. I've still waited for your demo of the Traditional as I enjoy your videos. Thanks for a great guitar and another great video.
This video is just another reminder that you guys are just fucking ace. I mean seriously, not only do you do informative and really fun reviews, but the banter is just surreal. Just two mates chatting shit about guitars. It's authentic and brilliant to watch. Keep doing what you're doing gents.
Just bought a 2016 Trad T and couldn't be happier! The neck feels perfect! Wouldn't ever miss the coil tapping and robotics. Save your money and go for the T. Rivals some fine vintage Pauls I've had the pleasure to play.
My 2016 Traditional is flawless and Gibson finally got the nut right, doesn't bind or slip at all which my other Gibsons have always had problems with.
+TastyChevelle id rather take a strat over a gibson anyday just watching the video to see what good things or rather what bad things they say about the gibsons
TastyChevelle what childish argument there are a lot of reasns why its overrated first the design its so boring everytime the same than Then if i ask someone if they know guitar from fender the say yeah the strat but nothing else.. gibson has the lp,sg,explorer, flying v... I could go on but the strat fanboys are butthurt anyways so i just stop and say the only right thing Gibson>fender
The Captain must be under some magic lighting as the guitar he's holding always looks the best. How does that work? I loved the look of the cheaper Traditional until he handed it over then I preferred the more expensive one when the Captain got hold of it. lol
Rob Chapman is a monster guitar player 😝 I also love Lee's bluesy licks ! Great reviews. Just ordered a Les Paul Studio 2016 and can't wait till it arrives. Thanks andertons
In Germany there's currently big trouble with Gibson's distribution policy, Europes biggest distributor Thomann and others like Session and BAX are not official Gibson partners anymore and only sell pre-2016 guitars. Thomann recently also took Epiphone out of their portfolio. Any comments on that? Is Andertons also struggling with Gibsons crazy conditions?
i heared the thoman thing has to do with thoman dumping 2015 models that sold bad into the market and gibson not liking that , other then hat gibson aperantly demands a 100k buy a year from a dealer , wich means selling over 500 a year
There is simply an LP model for any musical taste or range you might have. I have a new 2017 Gibson Traditional Les Paul HP, no weight relief full on LP with the very cool new HP (high performance) features. modified G Force losing those pain in the ass screw string holders, sculpted neck joint, over 200 some pickup options w the best Gibson HBs available. Chrome features, truly a work of art and tone. If there is a better guitar I have no imagination what that might be. For just under 3K the new non weight relief LP HP is a jewel in the crown. If you play one you will never look back. By the way guys love these sort of "talk show" review/demo things you do, like to see more and extended format, this would make a great show for guitarists.
To follow up on the whole "resonance", "sustain" thing, physics being the law state of science it is, they can hope and wish for made up yada all they like but the heavier and more stable a guitar is the more it will sustain. The notion of resonance is meaningless to a solid body HB type guitar, the pickup only gets the string vibration and no sort of "resonance" just not how science sees it. The more you dissipate the vibration through hollow body chambers the more sustain and solid base you lose. It simply does not improve the guitar and personally hollowing out a Les Paul is probably making Les spin in his grave. If you want a light guitar get another one, leave the LP alone. It's weight and mass is what makes it what it is. Ruin that and you need to be smacked upside the head w a full weight model. Les actually wanted this guitar extremely heavy and wanted all maple, Gibson opted for the mahogany and maple top which was still heavy but not like Les really wanted. Hey if you like them have at them but let's not pretend they are improving the guitar via resonance and sustain, simply against the laws of physics!
Got to play a 2016 LP at a shop a few days ago. I would rate it "frickin sweet". Can't remember what model it was, but the heel at the neck joint had been smoothed out and it felt great. I own an Epiphone LP Standard, and the feeling and quality is night and day (which isn't to say the Epiphone is bad). I know not everyone like's Les Pauls, but I'm a fan.
I agree to me Gibson have been using the 57 classic on their cheaper guitars, 2015 studio and the lowest end es guitars for example. I've never really heard the 57s except on here.
When can we expect a 2016 studio faded review? Maybe combined with the 50s & 60s tributes? Seriously considering one of those bad boys - look like great value!
The light burst traditional spec that flashes across the left of the screen when you show the available colours is my actual guitar that I bought from Andertons. I can tell by the flame on it :)
I bought the Traditional, and love it, particularly the larger neck. I bought a 2015 SG Standard and am just not crazy about the "high performance" neck shape...so I use it and the G-Force tuners for alternate tunings for slide guitar....so the neck shape doesn't matter, and I can easily switch between slide tunings.
I'm happy to hear about you raising the action on a les paul, i have one from 6 or 7 years ago, i don't know how high my strings _should_ be, i just raise it until the strings stop vibrating against the frets which sometimes feels too high, maybe i have a different issue going on.
+cikame if you want to have a comfortable playing neck, this would be a common setting. gap between bottom of the string and top of the fret at the 12th fret. high e 1,3 mm low e 1,7 mm i prefer a even lower action if possible.
I might be in the minority here, but I _loved_ that the 2014 (120th Anniversary) Les Paul Traditional was not weight-relieved at all. I bought one in the highly-popular Ocean Blue finish, and it is one of those magical guitars: It calls down the angels when I plug it into the Marshall JVM410HJS or the Marshall 6100 (EL34) 30th Anniversary Head. The pick-ups of the 2014 LP Traditional rock-out (touch-sensitive and perfectly-balanced with both pick-ups activated). Even so, I'll likely eventually upgrade to the four-wire BurstBucker Pro pick-ups that are now in the LP Standard (to have a broader range of tonal options) and--at the same time--add a Martin Six-String Customs Les Paul Coil-Cut Harness, modeled after the original buss-wire grounding of the 1959 "Holy Grail" LP harness, with bumble-bee capacitors. Frankly speaking, I'm not a fan at all of the '57 Classic pick-ups now in the LP Traditional, but I guess that's why they have different flavors of ice cream--to suit people with different aesthetic sensibilities. All that aside, it's nice to see the Desert Burst finish make a return in 2016 (absolutely beautiful!). And, to satisfy those people with different aesthetic sensibilities, there are still 2014 Les Paul Traditional guitars hanging in guitar shops around the world, most of them now at a handsome discount. :)
I got myself an Epi LP with EMGs new for 20% of the price of these guitars. GAS cured without cutting and bleeding my financial veins :) And sounds killer :)
Dear Gibson, please make a non weight relieved satin Traditional Les Paul with a flamed top and maybe even a choice of colors if it's not too much, lol. If that happens, it's going to be the most perfectest Les Paul ever made.
There was a lot of changes for Gibson in a past two years, maybe its time to put Epiphone vs Gibson 2015/2016 ranges together. That would be extremley helpfull. As always, enjoyed the video and GO CAPTAIN!

The shocker strikes back! Good to see Gibson seem to have their shit together again for 2016. The fact that you can now choose different spec options is a huge leap in the right direction!
The only thing they got wrong in 2015 is not including that awesome access cutaway! They made the perfect guitar otherwise!
They just need to give a hardshell case in every fucking guitar
+MrXignacioX García lol
And they screwed it up again in 2017.
it feels soo good when u wake up and there is a new chapman video waiting for you
Cap'n, I believe the word you're looking for in the intro is youthenized. Rob looks youthenized.
+styx85 Oh dear, youthenized isn't a word. Euthanised is a word that means to humanly put to death. So Rob doesn't really look Euthanised.
+Boomhauer So it would be "puppeneized" or "puppyfied"?

'Twas but a joke, Jared.
+Jared P maybe he meant "Youth In Asia"

A wine red traditional spec. Thats the sound and look I've been trying to get since I was 12 and started guitar. I'll have one someday
Does anyone else realize how Lee always looks extremely impressed but Rob's playing? He just looks at him like, WOW :0...
Also available in Muffinburst
Hahaha!!!
doesn't a high spec traditional contradict the whole point of a 'traditional' guitar

What is your favorite guitar to play out of the three? The Flying V, the Firebird, or the Explorer?
That AAA flame top looks dank af. My 2015's A+ looks like crap in person compared to this, can hardly see the flame even.
It would be sick if you released a Dorje tab book at some point! I would be hyped to buy that!
