Rocky Mountain Construction: Explained

- Опубліковано 18 кві 2020
- Rocky Mountain Construction, commonly referred to as RMC, is a fabricator and manufacturer of amusement rides and roller coasters. The company, based in Hayden, Idaho, USA, has become synonymous with the transformation of old wooden roller coasters into new hybrid attractions. In just over a decade, RMC has risen to become one of the most well recognised roller coaster manufactures - but where did it all begin? In this video, we explore the company's humble beginning and their development through the years to the present day.

Dang RMC's mini golf game is unexpectedly strong
RMC make some of the best coasters of all time, and you’re talking about mini golf?
@@davidmcaninch4714 it was a joke
@@bourne8636 I know.
Love putting a golf ball through a zero-G roll
RMC sounds like a pretty darn good company to work for, love seeing family owned companies thrive 👌
Definitely!
Well, I plan to study engineering or architecture, so working for them could be possible for me, provided they allowed remote work, as I wouldn't really want to permanently move all the way to the American continent...
Mik3l24 the do jobs in other countries so it’s fine.
That's the way it should be. The more competition, the better; we must prevent monopolies in all industries.
@@93836 oof I hadn't even noticed, good looks
"Just look out for a single thin rail"
You telling me RMC designed Steeplechase? Jokes aside, very informative video as always!
I wish they did, it would be better then! And thank you, that means a lot :)
@Nimblee I wish lol
“Outlaw run also featured the first successful inversion on a wooden roller coaster”
Son of Beast has left the chat
Hades 360:. Am I a joke to you?
Lool
Son of beast's loop was made of steel not wood.
@@johnfoltz8183 The inversions on Hades 360 weren't added until after Outlaw Run opened
Notice he said successful
RMC built El Toro for Intamin.. holy cow mind blown
That means el toro, steel vengeance, lightning rod, Zadra and Iron gwazi were all built by one company
I didn’t know that either! That explains why it’s silky smooth 😆
@@iRunfastXC No, that is the prefab track
Intamin still designed it lol
@@saml7249 I never mentioned who designed it. Just the fact RMC built it.
Rmc seems like the hottest innovators in this realm. Definitely deserves their massive success.
@Arrow Dynamics Inc. RMC took what Arrow started and made it better and effective. Not taking credit away from Arrow but we also cant ignore that RMC is the one that took that innovation and took it to the mainstream.
@idkwhattoputhere Arrow were pioneers. They were inventors, not innovators, there is a difference. RMC aren’t creating anything new, but they’re taking proven concepts in new directions
The amount of stuff theyve achieved in such a relatively short period of time is absolutely incredible
Knowing the quality of RMC coasters, the fact that the T-rex track can produce strata coasters is very promising. I can't be the only one who wants to know what a strata coaster could be like if it had more than just a top hat and an air time hill as the whole ride.
The issue with that is simply the cost. Building TTD or Kingda Ka today would cost around $37,000,000, and so lengthening the ride to what you're describing would easily be approaching the $50,000,000-$60,000,000 mark. Add in the fact that amusement parks are still recovering from the pandemic and that their attendance won't be great in 2022 with inflation, and it's safe to say that we won't see one anytime soon.
@@michaelpryor78 i think that a lot of money will be safed because it will require way less supports.
Give us Top Thrill RMC
@@michaelpryor78 Universal allegedly spent more than $200 million on the Hagrid roller coaster. Money isn't the issue.
@@ARKAEA33 Comparing Universal's budget with Cedar Fair's or Six Flags's is like comparing a doctor's budget with the average college kid's. For one, the profitability of Universal parks has to blow the other two out of the water (remember when Six Flags went bankrupt in the 2000s?), but more importantly, lets look at who's backing Universal. Universal is parented by NBCUniversal, which is owned by Comcast, which is, you know, the mass media conglomerate ranked 28th among Fortune 500 companies. Endless investors, endless reserve capital, endless money. 200 million is piss in the wind to them. Cedar Fair and Six Flags on the other hand are amusement park companies. They can't be mentioned in the same sentence as Comcast.
Im an Amusement ride electrical technician and what fascinates me is the process of fabrication of the tracks. a twisted beam must be unbelievably difficult to engineer, cut weld and assemble. This company is a major success. Hope to someday visit their production facilities.
Shout out to RMC for being one of the best company in the market!
RMC stans:
"Rocky Mountain Construction: Explained"
-Rocky Mountain Construction is THE BEST AND ICONIC COASTER MANUFACTURER, HANDS DOWN.
completely agreed!
I'm sorry but I really don't think so they've got a long way to go before they can even be in the same conversation as a company like B&M which if nothing else would be the most iconic name in the industry
@@mat42011 I'd personally say Intamin is more iconic, maybe even Arrow. But B&M is definitely up there.
@@twistedgwazi5727 Yes but with el toro, lighting rod, zadra, steel vengeance and don’t forget iron gwazi I think red is better
RMC*
“The raptor track was made for smaller parks” *six flags buys 2 of them rmc:😐
Legit
Six flags for 2020: Yeah, were gonna need another one of those
Six flags in 2021: what If we take our biggest park, and give it one of these rides desinged for smaller parks
RMC again: were happy doing buisness woth you , BUT WHY
i am excited for jersey devil
and Fiesta Texas is a smaller Six Flags park.
Silverwood is the latest recipient of an RMC raptor
You forgot the Raptor going to WildWaterWest. To be fair, this ride is pretty obscure, but it's getting built either this year or next year.
It was on the radar but we didn't include it in the video as we haven't heard a very official announcement about it yet :)
Will it be a clone?
@@limonscore likely, they had a third raptor manufactured that was a clone of the first two, eventually it was purchased, that is as much as i onow.
How to explain: explained
will will smith smith will smith???
Cedar point is my home park and I'll never forget the first time I rode Steel vengeance!! It changed my life!! It was something I can't believe I ever lived without!!! Hopefully cedar point does the first ever trex box coaster by them next year!!
This makes me miss roller coasters even more.
Could not agree more just thinking I was at SFMM Jan 28th and now not knowing if these parks will ever open back up is depressing
Sorry!
I've only known about RMC for 2 days and now I want to ride every coaster they've ever built. Their coasters' rides look so graceful, smooth, exciting, and perfectly paced.
UK needs an RMC, it's becoming embarrassing that there isn't one here.
🤣 🤣 yep
There's not a lot of parks that can host one, since Alton Towers has a tree height limit and Blackpool is already so very crowded and dense. There's of course the smaller, less widely known parks, but RMC won't build one in any of them.
@@Crogatho if push comes to shove blackpool could convert the grand national to an rmc like twisted colossus insteadsd of them removing the grand national eventually
@@mrhayemaker6719 That would be excellent but I think it's protected as a heritage site because of it's age
Marco Vermeer What about a Raptor track? I’m sure that a Railblazer or Wonder Woman could work at a park in the UK...
Only ridden a couple of these... Lightning Rod (Dollywood), and El Toro (SFGA). Both awesome A- to Grade A in my book. As a lover of both Roller Coasters & History, RMC is my kind of company. I hope Darien Lake employs them to turn Predator into Steel Predator someday.
RMC is the only company where the term "fastest growing" is actually an applicable and impressive stat. I'm excited that they're both innovating and potentially saving old favorites at the same time.
I find RMC to be so inspirational. Not only to the create masterpiece roller coasters unlike ANYTHING else on the market, but they're such a loveably scrappy group of Americans committed to great work. I've ridden Intamin, B&M, Arrow, all of it, and there's NOTHING like an RMC ride. They're magnificent.
I love that RMC, Intamin, and Vacoma all collaborated. All three have produced some of the greatest rides ever.
Now this was a satisfying watch. Really did learn a lot, and I feel like I can appreciate RMC even more now.
Thanks for watching, I'm glad you enjoyed it! :)
RMC Makes wooden coasters more exciting than ever!
Best explained video yet. You are great at these type of videos, and you help enthusiasts alike understand these manufacturers more. Well done.
Thank you, that means a lot! :)

Could you do S&S next, there isn’t a whole lot about them on the internet
I'll note it down, thanks for the suggestion :)
Your welcome and thank you 😊
Agree, and their new concept is soo cool I can't wait to see it.
family owned companies are my absolute favorite. i have mad respect for anybody who would take random small jobs just to pay their employees.
Surprised they forgot to mention who Alan Schilke used to work for. It was none other than Arrow Dynamics. He is the designer of numerous coasters and is also credited with the first 4D coaster concept that became X at Magic Mountain.
This video is already 25 minutes long. Alan Schilke is a whole different topic that's worth his own explanation one day :)
This video was INCREDIBLY made!! I didn't know even half of the stuff in here and I thought I knew a lot about RMC. Your Explained videos are always awesome. Keep up the amazing work!
Thank you, I really appreciate that it means a lot. :)
I can't wait to ride the single rail design at either Magic Mountain or New Jersey. I loved the WW ride at Fiesta Texas. Amazingly fun and fast coaster for such a small foot print. I was impressed and look forward to other RMC designs.
I love watching the way companies grow. The amount of innovation. They deserve all the accolades that come their way.
Still in need of an RMC in the UK. Come on Thorpe Park! (or Drayton Manor 😏)
Any park would do! ;)
Quite bad, wish Alton towers didn't have height restrictions, an RMC coaster there would be awesome.
every other manufacturer: Steel! Wood!
RMC: what if we do BOTH
Perfect Combo!
Wow! Serious props for the time and dedication gone into the production of this video. Your efforts have not gone unnoticed! Great job!
Thanks, I really appreciate this comment. The video took a while to make and I'm glad the effort we put into it is visible. Thanks again :)
RMC hybrid coasters are amazing. I have ridden untamed here in the Netherlands so many times

I'll note that suggestion down, thanks! :)
Very happy this little family company helped us Texans keep one of our home park's most iconic attractions
SDC is the only theme park I've ever been to, and Outlaw Run is by far my favorite at the park. Knowing the full backstory behind the company that made it is super cool, and I'm very glad YT recommended me this video.
i absolutely love what cedar point did with mean streak. taking that rough as hell coaster and turning it into an amazing ride in steel vengeance.
Me too, it was an awesome conversion
I live in Spokane, and have seen the fountain referenced at our Airport many times. Had no idea RMC built it, wow!
I am so happy this risky bold move was the new design for the best roller coasters in the world along with Intiman's creative approach to lower to the ground multi launch coasters like Maverick and Hagrid's Motorbike both amazing rides
Has anyone noticed that RMC linked this video on their website?
Congratulations, you made it, Coaster Bot!
Those hybrid redesigns are super ambitious and stylish, what an intense, brutal experience!
Other rollercoaster manufacturers: That is impossible to make
RMC: Hold my beer
Your production value and delivery will help make our community larger more easily.
Thank you for the time you invest and for the great content.
That's always been the intention of our channel really, to allow others to join the theme park/roller coaster community by bridging the gap. Thanks for the kind words and for the encouragement, it means a lot :)
Another fantastic edition of ‘explained’. So many amazing coasters from RMC to try and experience. Thanks for another informative video.
I learned a lot in this video. I wish every park had at least one RMC. They are all soooo good.
That's awesome to hear, and so do I! It does seem to be going that way to be fair ;)
I love how RMC uses this video on their official website to show of what their company is :D
Great video. Congrats RMC for all of your success.. THANK GOD for FRED , HIS WIFE, his family, and their AWESOME TEAM .
Be safe and well.

Imagine having your video about a really cool company be put on the really cool company's site
Honestly really cool
It's really cool, I agree!
This is my favourite video by you! You went very in debth and it's a very long video dispite how young rmc is, enjoyed it very much!
Fred’s coasters at silver wood are awesome with great air time and thrills. Stunt pilot using the raptor track silver wood is excellent and I would recommend any RMC wooden or not coaster over any other.
Excellent work guys! You can see so much work and research has gone into this and the result is totally worth it 🙌
Thanks my dude, that means a lot. :)
Awesome video!! I live a mere 15 minutes from Six Flags Over Texas and hate to say I haven't had the opportunity to ride the New Texas Giant. Think that might be age, lol. Your video is very informative and just a lot of fun!! Thank you for your great work!

Great RMC explanation! RMC is my favorite roller coaster manufacturer. I've ridden three of them including Lightning Rod, Twisted Cyclone, and Steel Vengeance.
I can see why, they make some awesome coasters! Thanks :)
twisted cyclone is my favorite coaster ever, so breathtaking and smooth
Great vid! Your best "Explained" yet! Keep it up.

I can't believe RMC constructed Intamin's El Toro and T-Express; those two are my favorite roller coasters I've ever ridden. That just makes me love RMC even more. My top 10 coasters I've ridden contains 4 RMC's lol.
Very very nice job, Harry! A very solid history vlog!

Alton Towers SW9, maybe?
I rode Twisted Cyclone at Six Flags Over Georgia for the first time a few years ago. It’s small, but it packs a lot for its size. Definitely one of my favorites at the park!
Ok: I’m 3 years too late, but I just rode my first RMC at Great Adventure. I’m
