Mechanical linkages and pumps, easy to access wear items like lights, batteries, etc that don’t require you taking the truck apart to access them. And only, the die-hard loyalist, would continue to support Ford, Chevy/ GMC, & Toyota
Interesting but a still way to expensive for the a Judging by a read of many on the comments a common theme appears. Who needs another luxury pickup with a potential price tag to match. In the day the average person could by a new truck and have affordable payments on a 36 month loan. Now days the price has inflated way beyond wages so now loans are most likely 70 months or more. Power Tail Gate on a pickup, really? How about a work truck with a bench seat, an AM radio with push buttons, manual windows & door locks, back to basics! No lane-change monitors, sunroofs, heads up display, mission control electronics, smart dash displays, smart suspensions etc. Systems that are immune to solar flairs would be helpful too.
The black and yellow trim with those black fenders and thick tires looks so sexy, my wife would get jealous and say its either her or the truck....so ......
This doesn't really go thru the drive train and with a 500 hp diesel is it a half ton only or is there a 2500 or a 3500 option, plus how well will the chassis and electronics hold up in the salt belt?I know from plowing for 4 winters the cat loaders we have has suffered with corrosion and electrical issues from salt and dpf and def problems from cold Temps and idling.
I think that to make this work, a person needs to be able to pick each electronic system or leave it. Each person has different needs, and drives in different places. Ranchers don't need extra points of electronic failure. Drop the massive infotainment to a basic or deluxe option. Give 3 bed length options and 2 wheelbase options. 2 cab options, maybe 3. Personally I'd like to see an extended cab like Ford, but with the rear seats easily removed. My tools and dog don't need a leather seat, and neither do I, to be frank. I think offering 4x4 only would be fine, but I miss the trusted 4x4 lever activated transfer case. I've had the electronic and vacuum systems fail. It should be rugged enough to be able to have the floors hosed out, sealed electronics, and probably weather resistant seats. The standard 120vac outlets are pretty cool, I'd offer a military style slave jump start plug. This way you could have a plug for 12v and 24v charging if you don't have a battery booster on hand to plug in. Make the chassis greaseable like the big equipment, and like older trucks. Have both an hour meter and odometer standard for reminders on lubrication and parts maintenance. It's simple really, dial down the luxury for solid comfort without standard fancy stuff, have vehicles able to be configured for sportsmen to contractors to field service techs. These would be the people that know the reputation of the name plate and know that a fairly basic model still has what is needed to allow a long, comfortable day on site, or a place to cool down, or warm up the crew for breaks. I'd want a stereo that pulled in good reception on am/fm, because I always seemed to work places at the fringe of the good radio stations. 8, 10, or 12ft box, or cab chassis for dropping on a service box of some kind. Even possible to put these to work as rescue vehicles or ambulance work. Great possibilities for government contracts. Use those contracts to keep the prices lower for the public. After all, taxpayers pay for government contracts, and then pay the same companies for these other trucks. Oh, and please put some factory protection over those half shafts turning the wheels. I hope that rear axle is solid. I'd prefer a solid front axle for anything over half ton ratings.
Well I’ve always loved caterpillar I’m kinda sold on this My D299 is awesome. So I’m ordering the pickup tomorrow 👍 Can’t believe it. It’s just what I’ve been waiting for. 😎
This is why I love my ‘06 Dodge Ram. As long as they keep making parts for it Im going to keep it. If I ever need a bulldozer then I’ll give CAT a call.
Mileage warranties used to be a 100,000 not 60,000. Never ever buy the first year model of a new model vehicle unless you like being the unpaid test dummy.
Shit, shit, shit. Caterpiller missed the mark just like every North American truck maker. Why electric? Just build a goddamn good gas or diesel truck for the common working man!
I had a 1991 Hardbody 2 door 2 wd ,4 cyl and 5 speed. You could not kill that truck. It went nearly 300,0000 miles on original clutch and no engine work done.
Looks like a monster and very versatile. I particularly liked the electric power output point in the carriage to use power tools for working. Knowing CAT the engine should be super robust👌
This is a whole different consumer engine. Even Cummins failed on their V8 Nissan. I always thought they should have made a 5bt instead that uses all the 6bt parts, but they might have an agreement with dodge that prevents them from selling BT engines to other light duty truck manufacturers.
My first truck a 1987 Ford F150 with a straight 6 with 2 gas tanks. No whistles and bells. $10k new. The base truck today has options that double the price. You can’t find a single cab base model anywhere because they don’t make them.
No thank you CAT. I'll keep my work truck. I paid $1700 in 2020 for it. It has as options fm radio, cigarette lighter, & overdrive. My windows are crank, I have cozy wings, I have a box bed that's 6'5" wide 5'6" tall & 10' long. '88 TOYOTA 1 ton box truck dual wheel 2.2R-E 4-cylinder. Basic easy to repair technology. That's all I need.
That’s not what the ads promised. It’s not a real working man’s truck! It’s a car with an open trunk! Give me a big v 8 and an 8’ bed. Perfect like heck!!
Caterpillar hello Just build a damn truck No power, bullshit, tampon pullers, heated seats and whatever else stupid crap. Just put a reliable caterpillar diesel engine in it and sell it for about $35,000. If I wanted a sports car, I’d go buy me a Corvette. I want a plain and simple bad ass truck.
6.7 diesel, 5.0 V8 or a twin turbo V6? Is Ford making the engines for them or what? Stay AWAY from anything v6, especially turbo'd. They will break down.
I've been a Ram man all my adult life.....until Ram priced me out of their market with 1 ton trucks in the $90,000 and up range.....riding on 17 inch tires and with a clunky, POS transmission and no options for standard drive six speeds any more. I have bought several great older used RAMS and did what work was needed to make them serviceable. I have one more new pickup to buy in my lifetime....and it will last me until I die. I am more than willing to give CAT a good hard look. Most of us do not want a tech marvel to drive. A good, solid, powerful, basic truck with a few essential tech features would really fit the bill. I have gone my whole life without climate controlled seats and two dozen USB charging ports, etc..... I am not buying a friggin' space shuttle....I'm buying a pick up truck. Where are these going to be sold? At CAT Equipment dealerships or at truck dealerships?
If you want a real truck go to Africa. They don't have all those regulations. I've always had trucks but when i visited Africa, i said we are being ripped off.

It should automatically be no less than 6 foot. (I honestly initially thought this was going against the Maverick, Colorado, Ridgeline, etc.!); 2. With inflation on the rise, 18/24 mpg, is “Eh!”
What, Caterpillar, SHOULD do!…. Is make a hybrid Hydro-Fuel! 36/45, for a full-size truck, would put EV trucks & Ram out the game! And only, the die-hard loyalist, would continue to support Ford, Chevy/ GMC, & Toyota
Interesting but a still way to expensive for the a
Judging by a read of many on the comments a common theme appears.
This video sounded more like advertisement for caterpillar than an honest review
In Australia, tradesmen laugh at these “trucks for the gentry”.
Love almost all of it, except the electric part. Should be diesel powered.
Just want a truck like they used to make in the 80s 90s 8ft bed, simple, reliable, and inexpensive.
I am not paying $150,000 for a truck.
I want extremely simple truck that is built for work. I don't need gadgets.
Where do you even buy these things and where would you get them serviced at?? There’s no CAT dealerships anywhere that I know of
Why would we trust buying a road going 'truck' from a company that stopped making road going truck engines 10 years ago 🤷🏿♂️
This country needs a cheap, plain truck. Not another fashion statement. Power steering and A/C, that's it.
Well I’ve always loved caterpillar
I’m kinda sold on this
My D299 is awesome. So I’m ordering the pickup tomorrow 👍
Can’t believe it. It’s just what I’ve been waiting for. 😎
Bring back the 80’s style trucks with modern power trains
I bet with all the electrical mayhem, this thing won't get that many miles without catching on fire.
Always a negative mofo.. I guess your life is going like shit!!
This is why I love my ‘06 Dodge Ram. As long as they keep making parts for it Im going to keep it. If I ever need a bulldozer then I’ll give CAT a call.
When will they be available to purchase and will there be a different dealer platform?
If it's possible to add that on the 450
😢
Mileage warranties used to be a 100,000 not 60,000. Never ever buy the first year model of a new model vehicle unless you like being the unpaid test dummy.
This is just a Ford. Same engines and about the same body just an aggressive looking hood. The interior looks slightly different that is about it.
Easy to move into the market. Make a basic truck for the working men and women.
Shit, shit, shit. Caterpiller missed the mark just like every North American truck maker.
Why electric?
Just build a goddamn good gas or diesel truck for the common working man!
Nissan d21 best pickup ever👍
I had a 1991 Hardbody 2 door 2 wd ,4 cyl and 5 speed. You could not kill that truck. It went nearly 300,0000 miles on original clutch and no engine work done.
Looks like a monster and very versatile.
I particularly liked the electric power output point in the carriage to use power tools for working.
Knowing CAT the engine should be super robust👌
Not versatile without an 8 ft box
This is a whole different consumer engine. Even Cummins failed on their V8 Nissan. I always thought they should have made a 5bt instead that uses all the 6bt parts, but they might have an agreement with dodge that prevents them from selling BT engines to other light duty truck manufacturers.
My first truck a 1987 Ford F150 with a straight 6 with 2 gas tanks. No whistles and bells. $10k new. The base truck today has options that double the price. You can’t find a single cab base model anywhere because they don’t make them.
Are all of the drive-train components their own or are they sourced from Ford/Chevy/Ram...?
Competition is good for customers. American trucks are not my cup of tea, but I like that one.
Naysayers may say too much gadgets but I say finally somebody who's got it right
That’s not what the ads promised. It’s not a real working man’s truck! It’s a car with an open trunk! Give me a big v 8 and an 8’ bed. Perfect like heck!!
Cheap and powerful doesn’t go together in one sentence. Stick to farm and heavy equipments
The cybertruck we all wanted
Read the comments first. Save your time.
So are these engines gasoline or Diesel?
I heard this truck ain't even got no cup holders ... Dang nabit
Where will they be sold? How do you get info regarding a purchase?
Caterpillar hello Just build a damn truck No power, bullshit, tampon pullers, heated seats and whatever else stupid crap. Just put a reliable caterpillar diesel engine in it and sell it for about $35,000. If I wanted a sports car, I’d go buy me a Corvette. I want a plain and simple bad ass truck.
If CAT can make a quality affordable truck, they will make a lot of money.
Will a two door version be available? I and interested in a full size bed... lets see what happens. DVD:)
And where will these trucks be sold ? Is Cat going have car lots around the country?
6.7 diesel, 5.0 V8 or a twin turbo V6? Is Ford making the engines for them or what? Stay AWAY from anything v6, especially turbo'd. They will break down.
My 3.0 V6 Ranger is going strong. 2000 model.
They don't make them like that anymore.
I agree my buddy had one that was great to him and my 4.3 sonoma was great to me years ago and i was and was not easy on it at all.
