Dude, everybody plays Joe Cocker at max volume, don't worry about it.
Lol Bob
YESSS 🙌🏼😁♥️
I wasn’t aware there was any other way to play it…
If you were a kid in the 80s you most likely heard this song every week during the intro to the tv show The Wonder Years.
That how got to know Joe Cocker version.
My favourite song of all-time, from my favourite TV show of all-time.
@@RyanCMcD Agree with tv show. In my top 3 of all time
Was this the version? That's cool.
Yep. First thing I said in my head was "Wonder Years!"
One of Joe's back-up singers (blonde with glasses) is Jennifer Warnes. Thirteen years later she & Joe would win a Grammy award for their duet "Up Where We Belong".
There also was Rita Coolidge another artist in her own right singing back up
@@robertkern9911 Rita Coolidge was the only member of the tour who actually took time to speak to Joe travelling between shows. Some , like Leon Russell just exploited Cocker to boost their own careers.
This whole experience is exactly what the world needs more of.
These YT performances of my Era show the grandchildren that we actually had a life 😂 back in the day.
Amongst many others, Joe Cocker was one we experienced live. Awesome decades of music
RIP Joe Cocker, one of the best live performers I have ever seen!
After Britney 🙃
One of the best rockers. His voice was so special.
Concur on this being the best live version. Goosebumps and tears is what Joe evokes and emotes.
This is one example of why our generation is so much different than the younger generations who had nothing that compares to this, or Janis or so many others who defined our mindset and attitudes. Loved Joe Cocker!
Cocker took a great song and turned it into a heavenly experience. A tour de force.
I was at Woodstock and it was a soulful experience. This performance was a religious experience. He said in an interview that since he had never learned to play an instrument, his body became an instrument when he sang. He was unique. There will never be anyone like him.
That's fascinating! I always thought he moved as though he was "impaired", but now I see that he's actually playing himself!
Personally. I think Joe Cocker was one of a kind; lightning in a bottle filled with Irish whiskey. His voice really grows on you.
Still gives me chills after all these years !
I can understand the way you feel about him . Goosebumps and tears . Hes an amazing singer
The musicians on that stage were gathered pretty much at the last minute for this concert. The guy with the big hat and guitar made it happen, so it really was "a little help from my friends" moment!
That would be Leon Russel, a great musician in his own right (but you probably already knew that! 😉)
It wasn’t a single concert it was a 3 month tour. Joe was already exhausted from extensive touring and wanted to go home to Sheffield. He even disbanded the Grease Band to avoid further shows but was threatened that he would never be allowed to tour America again if he didn’t comply. He was then exploited by several individuals including Leon Russell, a session musician with less than half Cocker’s talent. Joe went home a broken man when the tour ended and when he made a comeback in 1872 his voice was not the same due to overwork on the tour.
Leon Russell, baby!! Incredible musicians and a great songwriter playing with an awesome vocalist..best concert of my life.
in my opinion, you were taken to church to experience the Joe Cocker Revue:)
And the air is full of love, and love for music, and peace and joy... pure feelings
when you said it felt emotional i couldn't agree more. i had a big lump in my throat watching this. the thing i always loved about Joe Cocker is that his backup singers were always the best. just the best. here it was a heavenly choir. i still miss him being on the planet.
Go ahead and follow Joe through the looking glass....... You won't be disappointed!
Such a great song and performance. Another great one is “She Came in through the Bathroom Window.” Definitely worth a listen. 🎧
Wow! Wow! Wow! I'd only heard the Woodstock version. Thanks to the requestor! 🤘🎶
The music of my youth! Nothing like this happens today! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Joe Cocker is a legend. I miss him.
Every song that Joe Cocker covers he makes his own.
In case people do not realize ir, when Joe Cocker sings, his "body reactions' are "feeling and playing all the different instruments", drums, guitar, the whole deal, he feels it all in "his soul"..
His song, You Can Leave Your Hat On, is great. It was used in the movie "9 1/2 Weeks.
Checkout Salvos reaction to that song I had him do it earlier
Great performance!...Unchain my Heart, You can leave your hat on, Have a Little Faith in me..different from this one but equally interesting in my opinion. Great reaction Salvo
Hearing this for the first time I know you think this is unbelievably good. It’s this unbelievably good the millionth time you hear it.
I just heard Ringo singing this the other day and it was way better than I remembered. It was great. Joe’s version is transcendent.
Yes, Bob, that is a true comment. This is the version to watch if you want to see it live and hear it.
Joe Cocker sings full of passion. Check out his cover of "The Letter."
Yes please ! Love the original but I really love Joe's cover with Leon on keyboard amazing performance
And thanks from me too Bob! I was a junior in high school when I saw this tour. I think we had 18th row seats. It was tremendous. That was superstar Leon Russell in the top hat and guitar, super drummer Jim Gordon, Jim Price and Bobby Keys on trumpet and sax (they went on to play and tour with The Stones). A lot of the band and singers were part of Delaney and Bonnie and Friends, a band I'm HUGE on. This is a cut from the movie, which is a must see. Sal, so glad you got to experience this!
This is from the movie. Jennifer and Rita backing (!!!!) and Chris Stainton who played on the original studio version (as did Jimmy Page)
Thanks Bob! LOVE this performance!❤
Most singers perform using just their voice. But in this performance by Joe Cocker, he utilized his whole being, enhanced by the amazing musicians and backup singers. Thank you so much for watching this.
It's the sheer joy and freedom of unfettered music, with nothing held back. Great reaction.
Putting every ounce of his body inside and out into this song
this is probably my favourite live performance of his
The keyboard player is Chris Station and he is responsible fir the incredible organ intro
And still playing in Eric Clapton band
I always remember it as the theme song from the wonder years. Great song
It’s a very emotional song and with his back up choir! pretty incredible lineup there.
Music is supposed to make you feel something. This gives you the feels.
means you’re still alive.
Great reaction! You got it. This was a spiritual performance!! Thanks!!
Wow! Look at all of those strs along with Joe, Leon Russell in the top hat, and a few others as wll in the Band. This was written and recorded by The Beatles. Joe asked them if he could record it, and they said sure, it's fine. It surpassed the original version, and Ringo (the original singer) said "I guess it's Joe's song now." They were all good friends.
One of the greatest live albums of all time! I love every second of Mad Dogs and Englishmen.
And least known these days we need to do this album
I think of that one daily as I head out for my ‘noon day sun’ walk 😊
Welcome to a true 60’s vibe, Sal.
Exactly!
Nobody has a voice like Joe...except John Belushi LOL!!
And that my friends is how good music is made. Great lead vocals and excellent backing from all on stage. I was lucky enough to see Joe play live in Sydney Australia way back in the early 80s and I can honestly say that his concert was right up there as one of my all time favourites.
Definitely better than Woodstock
It's like a musical church and the passion exuded leads to the emotions. I have Joe along with Janis and SRV as the unmatched "Passion Trio" that can shock. Joe and Elton are the only musicians I've heard that out performed the Beatles in a cover.
MUCH better than Woodstock version--great choice!!!!
great comment on his ability to bring and sustain emotions
I prefer this live version to the Woodstock video.
You have to watch the documentary "20 feet from stardom". Amazing music documentary, Joe Cocker done a lot to revive the careers of these incredible backing singers.
we could make music back then. 60s and early 70s live bands everywhere. i have thousands of vinyl and will be installing my Oppo 103 to stream live music from my era. thanks wonderful.
The greatest screaming cry ever
I was lucky to be a teen in these years. Whenever someone wants to know what it was like to be alive in these days, just watch this performance! Nuff said😎😎😎😎🤠
Gotta love Joe Cocker !
Joe's performance of this song borders on religious ecstasy. He always left every ounce of himself on the stage.
Joe suffered from a condition that caused his spasms, despite it, he blessed the world with his energy and talent.
Rita Coolidge back there ❤
Such a professional, he actually overdosed twice during this song and no one can even tell
Lmfao!!
I saw Joe in ‘99 Toronto, he opened for Tina Turner🎉 Amazing! He must’ve been approx 60 and he still moves his hand kinda sporadically. He was so Good🎉
You certainly were Mesmerized 😊
Jim Gordon one of the drummers. Tragic end for him but he played on so many great songs back then.
Tragic end for his mother 😢
Mad dogs is amazing
You had a look of .. concern, confusion, mouth agape, I only wish we could hear the questions going on quietly in your head! Wow!
Great performance (which I have never seen)!!
Leon Russel - watch his addition to the R&R hall of fame - His career is worth a look
Strange it s not on the album it saying it does ! but it happens, i listened to a ELP album on youtube but the last 4 songs are not there ! only because i have the CD i know there s more on it ! lol ya ! 🤔great song, i love the combination of artists !
Chilllllls❤
Hey you orgot to pause This rendition id quite soul shaking Paul said he turned it into a soul anthem and he was grateful for that
I truly enjoy the "stripped down" version from Woodstock with just the core of his original band more than this one. Sal, I hope you give a watch to the Woodstock performance at some point, just on your own time. The film of this tour, Mad Dogs and Englishmen is worth a watch sometime as well. Many of the songs are the encores of shows and are absolutely phenomenal.
The guy in the top hat is Leon Russell, who had quite a career of his own.
Jimmy Page played guitar on the studio version.
dont forget to try leon russells music like hard rain and stranger strange land.
❤
One of the very, very few people that can do a Beatles song better than the Beatles. I'm a huge Beatles fan but Joe's cover blows the original away. And his cover was LIVE
2005 deluxe edition vinyl has the song on it
If you like this, try Jack Savoretti Breaking the rules (acoustic), you will love it.
Ah, Joe.
LOUD!! The ONLY way to listen to this song.
The Beatles wrote it but Joe owned it.
Ok guys. Was that Rita Coolidge singing backup?
Leon Russell there with him (top hat).
He's not "Spazzing", he's conducting :) Watch his arms and see how the band reacts to it :) It's HIS band :) Peace and Love from Canada eh :) sorry :)
yes
@@robertkern9911 :)
WOODSTOCK VERSION IS THE GOAT!❤❤❤❤
Not even close no back up singers
Next challenge - Joe & Eros ua-cam.com/video/ZOPL4iy0Sfo/v-deo.htmlsi=HXvKCIFF4_khULjH
Awesome aint it?
I have never seen that version, OMG so great!
It was emotional because you can feel the pure abandon, freedom and love
The very best version of this song. Few people can do The Beatles better than The Beatles, but oh man, Joe Cocker leaves them in the dust with this one.
"Well, it's HIS song now." -- John Lennon
Not the only Beatles song…”She Came in Through The Bathroom Window” was also a great version by Cocker.
💯
Love the Mad Dogs concerts with Leon Russell! Leon really did help establish much of Joe’s musical sound.
No Russell exploited Cocker. He wasn’t fit to lace Joe’s boots. Please research the background as to how the Mad 🎉dogs tour came about and the consequences it had on Cocker’s health. As Rita Coolidge said, Joe had no ego but was surrounded by people like Russell who had massive egos and used Joe’s talent for their own interests. I despise Leon Russell.
I am always amazed that someone listened to the original and said "hey, how about doing it like this?"
Ain't nobody ever owned a song (not just a Beatles' song, but ANY song) like Joe Cocker's blistering rendition of "A Little Help From My Friends"....and his Woodstock performance of it is freaking jaw-dropping!
Joe took us to church.
It's like a revival! I just love your channel, and your love for music.
The Woodstock version is sung by the band members in back up. the female singers never made it to Woodstock.
and what backround singers they were One o them was Rita Coolige a star in her own right thats why i coose this version
That is Leon Russell and his band on this tour… different band played Woodstock
@@Rock_Snob that's the original Mad Dogs and Englishmen band
@@robertkern9911 correct 👍
The Beatles wrote it, Joe owned it every time he sang it. Amazing singer from up here in Yorkshire.
70’s we’re just different ❤️
Best theme song for a show ever. I fell asleep to Wonder Years just last night. I love The Beatles' version, but nothing can beat Joe's.
Wow!! Tremendous performance nice never seen this version. Spectacular. Thanks so much.
