One of the most iconic, epic concerts ever recorded. The story behind how it all came together is worth learning, I promise you. The double vinyl album is worth finding and buying.
Everything about this moment in time is epic.
I simply have too much to say about it.. so, just enjoy. You have stumbled upon a true masterpiece here.
This is absolutely my favorite version. Joe totally killed it!!!!!
No contest.
The genius behind this arrangement is the guy in the top hat - Leon Russell. He was a hit maker for many top acts before releasing his own music.
So many other stars in this video. Leon Russell with the top hat and the "Holy Trinity" T-shirt. I think this was from the early 70s. Joe took us to church. Britain's most soulful artist.
God Bless
LoL...No Joe Cocker wasn't on drugs. Most everybody thought he was back in the day.but that was just Joe. He had these weird moves while singing. Like he had MS. But it never took away from him being one of the most gifted singers ever. You can't beat that voice.
Just googled it . He had Lewy Body Dementia, and lung cancer, he died of lung cancer at age 70. It has many similarities to Alzheimer's it attacks the nerve cells which deteriorate or die.
From what I've read he didn't have any kind of health illnesses.
He was a drug addict and alcoholic. Suffered from bi polar depression. The lung cancer in later years that he died from. What it comes down to he was one of the greats. Gotta love him.
Thanks for sharing this Joe Cocker Mad Dogs and Englishmen footage. March 27th and 28th 1970. Fillmore East New York. Lots of talent on the stage....from Joe Cocker, Leon Russell, Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett to Rita Coolidge...Bobby Whitlock and Jim Gordon.
Don't forget Bobby Keys.
Joe cocker suffered from epilepsy... The Beatles did both of those songs as well... I suppose the dog might have something to do with his album mad dogs and Englishmen I don't know... I was lucky enough to see Joe cocker many years ago at pine knob in Clarkston Michigan..
Absolutely phenomenal the whole band was wearing white like suits and with the black lights and all the lights it was like they could change colors.... Very awesome concert...
That's an urban myth. He didn't have epilepsy, that's just the way he expressed himself
Just two words: Goosebumps, beautiful!
❤❤Joe Cocker, yesssss❤❤ WHEN THE NIGHT COMES.
John Robert "Joe" Cocker OBE (20 May 1944 - 22 December 2014) Joe toured into his last years giving spectacular performances and it was considered a great honor to be asked to be among his back-up band. Over the six decades many of the best artist were proud to be on stage with the Mad Dog Englishman.
One of the backups is Rita Coolidge, who had her own own recording career.
"MAD Dogs And Englishmen" ..... a 60's group out of England that blew away the entire world with their performance at Woodstock with these songs. No other individual has Joe Cocker's vocals and performance character. Leon Russel's talents are on dozens of albums from many artist on keyboards or guitarist. Add the entire ensemble and you get a bit of British Classic Rock Legendary History.
You're probably right....off the top of my head i'd put Ian Anderson as a close second in terms of performance character
@@corkydukeII5898 And unique voice, they are similar in that way.
Joe sings the Beatles songs like they were made for him wow we . Sings with all he's got. Soul big time shows you my beloved Beatles are much more than great 😃👍
I think "The Letter" is his best.
Back in the day I saw him live too many times to count...to the point that I actually said to my boyfriend, "AGAIN!? WE'RE going to see him AGAIN?" Looking back now, I can't believe the wealth of talent that was here for us to enjoy. Glad they're still being appreciated.❤
The one and only...unique from all others...amazing...
Yes Joe!!! You never understand the mans passion till you see him oh stage it oozes from his very soul! Just an iconic lifelong song. reat reaction you felt that. cheers
Both, are covers of Beatles songs.
Joe was so full of soul! Leon, is legendary as well.
Great choice! 🎸
Both of these songs were written by Ther Beatles, and they were friends with Joe, and gave their blessing for him to record his version. Huge hit, bigger than the Beatles. Ringo famously said, "I guess this is Joe's song now."
Joe could cover Beatles songs like nobody else. Great performance.
A more innocent time.
I was going to say wrong title but I see you did both songs. Joe is amazing!
Yes, doggie on the stage...it was a different time, not so tight ass, free to be unique. I'm so glad I got to see it and feel it. Joe was the air guitar hero. ❤🐕😊
Thank you for grabbing the best version. Others have been viewing the woodstock version. This has the female voices and the late great leon russell on guitar🤷❤️. Oh joe you are missed😢
More Joe Cocker!!!! "Whrn The Night Comes", live version.. Guaranteed to knock your block off!! 😇✌️
Joe Cocker was an English singer known for his gritty, bluesy voice & dynamic stage performances that featured expressive body movements. He recorded a few Beatles' songs "With A Little Help From My Friends", "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window" & "Something". Other hit songs were "You Are So Beautiful", "Up Where We Belong" (a duet with Jennifer Warnes), "Delta Lady", "Darling Be Home Soon", "Cry Me A River", "Feelin' Alright", "The Letter" etc.
Love Darling be home soon the studio version with the backup singers
IMO, Joe IS the Ultimate Blues Voice! Joe`s entire Body IS his Instrument!
Awesome performance... here's something that I think we would all find interesting; do back to back versions of "Delta Lady" from Joe Cocker and then Leon Russell. It was written by Leon and they both have wonderful studio versions. Like the old commercial used to say, "try it, you'll like it."
Two legends!❤
Joe has a lot of great songs you'll have to check them out... He's he's an icon
I’ve always like Leon Russell I saw him at Red Rocks in Colorado in the mid 70’s mind blowing acoustics he was one of my favorite artists back in the day. Of course who didn’t like Joe?
George Harrison's "Something" and John Lennon's "With A Little Help From My Friends" like no other group has ever done them.... nope. Both George and John were quite pleased.
I'd love to add that Blue Top Hat Leon was wearing at that show to my collection. I have the hair.
You would probably love Leon, check him out sometime. He often wears a top hat. He is known for piano, it surprised me to see him on guitar but he can play almost anything. You might be familiar with "A Song For You" already. It's been covered many times
These guys had no protection back then. Love was there protection back then ❤
Add another Legendary Classic Rock name to your incredible Playlist.... Leon Russel has a ton of great stuff.... "A Song For You"
Fun seeing Leon Russell here
wish you were there brother
JMBOY TV give Joe Cocker You Are So Beautiful a listen the way he sings this song will put a TEAR in your EYE'S thanks
Jimmy Page did the solo of his studio version on his Mad dogs & Englishmen
One of a kind, we loved him! and OMG weren't we fortunate (I'm 70) to have all this great music as the backdrop to our early years. Maybe that's why today's music seems flat and soulless to me. Joe's covers of Beatle's music is one of the few that I can listen to.
Shirley Bassey also covered “Something” and it’s pretty awesome
Cocker was the most unique singer of our era..we loved him...a lot of parents didn't get it lol
Joes drug of choice was booze. He never gave it up, but got under control.I seem to remember that he'd have a couple of bacardis b4 he went on stage and a 4 drinks to come down after in his later career.
HIGH JM... Aren't you glad you stopped by the Classic Rock/Classics Restaurant for another delightful dish served up back in the 60's and just as tasty today as ever.... ON THE HOUSE
Boy, was he young there. Should done the Woodstock version. Love his version of You Can Leave Your Hat On. (live version.
Some how Joe was able to Build a Career redoing BEATLES Songs!!
Poor dog. Leon Russell was from Tulsa
When music had substance.
You need to check out Leon Russell’s Lady Blue. It is so beautiful!
My favorite version of With a Little Help From My Friends by far is definitely Joe’s performance from Woodstock. This one here is more “polished” imo, while the Woodstock one stands out strangely because it’s kind of the opposite. His female background singers got delayed, so his male band mates had to fill in for them, and Joes vocals at Woodstock were even better imo. Check it out when you can if you haven’t seen it. The scream alone gives me goosebumps every time.🙂
Joe Cocker is the male Janis Joplin. Both passionately great
Leon on guitar? !!
Yep... he did it all
JMBOY TV you need to give Leon Russell a listen try Lady Blue or Song For You or Shoot Out On The Plantation or Tight Rope or This Masquerade thanks by the way this group you are listing to is called Joe Cocker Mad Dogs And Englishmen
Those are all Beatles songs.
A film that highlights the experience and role of back-up singers (including some from this amazing "Mad Dogs and Englishmen" tour) is "20 Feet from Stardom":

On the list of the most boring songs of the world this is number 2. Only Joe Cocker was able to make something halfway exciting out of it.
