Hi Sheray! Thanks for your fantastic reaction! Just to let you know Joe’s back up singers were stuck in traffic and so the guys in the band had to sing falsetto! Love this song! Peace and Blessings to you and yours from Australia!

This was the Woodstock performance that put him on the map. John Belushi use to mimick his moves.

Joe's singing style owed a lot to his hero, Ray Charles. Joe covers another Beatles' song that's pretty good. She Came in Through the Bathroom Window.

A lot of people are thrown off so much theyre driven to laughter, by some of Cockers movements and actions. I really appreciated your appreciation for what this man poured into his work, love, obsession, Devine obligation, whatever you want to call it. Very cool.

Joe's female (!) background singers couldn't make it to the stage as they stucked in traffic. So these guys from the Grease-Band helped out singing the female background part! :) *lol

There is an even better version of this called "Live at the Metropol" where he has his backups singers, check it out, it's church. Please react to "Fooled Around and Fell in Love" by Elvin Bishop, live at Midnight Special, thanks, good reactions cutie.

A most friendly reaction 😃! One of the rare times when a Beatles' song was unquestionably outdone on the cover version. I see 👁👁 you have reacted to Joe Crocker before: Feelin' Alright. With A Little Help From My Friends was released in 1968 as the second single from Joe Crocker's 1969 debut album: With A Little Help From My Friends. It was written by Paul McCartney and John Lennon. It was produced by Denny Cordell. The song reached #54 on the Cash Box 100 and #68 on the Hot 100. It peaked at #1 in the Netherlands, UK, Switzerland and Belgium. It reached #3 in both Germany and France. This performance is from 1969 at Woodstock. Two weeks later he performed the song at the Isle Of Wight Festival 1969.
Joe Cocker sang his devotional version of this song at Woodstock, giving his career a huge boost. The 25-year-old Cocker, wore a tie-dyed T-shirt and was drenched in sweat throughout the performance, securing his reputation as an entertainer who would give his all on stage. Joe Cocker had four or five female backing singers on the studio version of this song, but when he performed it live at Woodstock, his all-male backing band: Grease Band, did the backup vocals, singing way up high. His performance appears in the 1970 Woodstock documentary film. Joe Cocker brought the song to the Woodstock stage again when he appeared at Woodstock '94.
The Beatles recorded the song in 1967, but never released it as a single. Joe Cocker's song version was recorded in 3/4 time - a waltz. The Beatles original version was in traditional 4/4 time. The Beatles were so impressed with Joe Cocker's version that they sent him a telegram of congratulations and placed an ad in the music papers praising it. When Joe Cocker passed away in 2014 Paul McCartney issued this statement regarding his version of this song: "It was just mind-blowing, totally turned the song into a soul anthem, and I was forever grateful for him for having done that". Joe Cocker also covered The Beatles songs: "I'll Cry Instead", "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window" and "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away".
While trying to get Joe Cocker's classic primal scream on the song during the studio recording process music producer Denny Cordell had the singer belt it out a whopping 25 times, risking a vocal cord explosion. "I never saw anyone be so cruel to another human being", Tony Visconti recalled to The Guardian. Jimmy Page played guitar and BJ Wilson from Procol Harum played drums on the track. The Soul singers on the song providing backing vocals were Madeline Bell Reeves, Rosetta Hightower, Patrice Holloway, Sue Wheetman and Sunny Wheetman.
In 2002, Joe Crocker performed the song at "Party At The Palace: The Queen's Concerts, Buckingham Palace", celebrating the Queen's Golden Jubilee.
The song was featured in the 1996 film 📽: My Entire Life.
The song was featured in the TV series 📺: The Simpsons ("Sweet Seymour Skinner's Baadasssss Song" - 1994).
The song has topped the UK Singles charts on three occasions: Joe Cocker's 1968 version, then in 1988 Wet Wet Wet hit #1 again on a double A-sided charity single, and in 2004 Sam & Mark from the 2004 UK TV show: Pop Idol, brought it to the top of the music chart again.
In 1992, Sesame Street did a parody of this called: "With A Little Yelp From My Friends". It was performed by Moe Cocker, a Cocker Spaniel. Moe Cocker sings about dog-related situations that make him feel down like losing a buried bone, losing a fight to a flea, unable to fetch a stick while his owner is away, but he knows he'll always have his dog friends to help him through rough situations.
The song has been covered by other artists including 📻: John Belushi, Steve Cropper, Bill Oddie, Kick Axe, Joe Brown and more.
    Legacy 🛡:
In 2014, a BBC poll saw it voted the seventh best cover song ever.
In 2001, Joe Cocker's cover version of the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

    Lyrics🗒:
What would you do if I sang out of tune?
Would you stand up and walk out on me?
Lend me your ears and I'll sing you a song
I will try not to sing out of key
Oh, baby I get by (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
All I need is my buddies (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
I say I'm gonna get high (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
    Oh yeah (Ooh)
What do I do when my love is away?
(Does it worry you to be alone?)
    No no
How do I feel at the end of the day?
(Are you sad because you're on your own?)
I tell ya I don't get sad no more
(Ah, with a little help from my friends)
Gonna get by with my friends (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
Yeah yeah, I'm gonna try (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
Keep on getting high, oh Lord (Ooh)
    (Do you need anybody?)
    I need somebody to love
    (Could it be anybody?)
    All I need is someone
That's just where I'm going, yeah
Somebody knows that's where I'm showing
    Baby
(Ah, with a little help from my friends)
Said I'm gonna make it with my friends (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
Oh, I'm gonna keep on trying (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
I'm gonna keep on trying (Ooh)
(Would you believe in a love at first sight?)
I'm certain it happens all the time, yeah
(What do you see when you turn out the light?)
I can't tell you but it sure feels like mine
(Ah, with a little help from my friends)
Don't you know I'm gonna make it with my friends? (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
I promised myself I'd get by (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
Said I'm gonna try and not work too hard (Ooh)
    (Do you need anybody?)
    Well I, yeah yeah yeah
    (Could it be anybody?)
    Oh there's gotta be somebody
    Don't treat me wrong Lord
    Oh yeah yeah
(Ah, with a little help from my friends)
Said I'm gonna get by with my friends, yeah (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
Oh, yes I'm gonna keep trying, now (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
Keep on trying with my friends (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
Oh, I'm never gonna stop there, oh (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
I'm gonna keep on trying, yeah yeah (Ah, with a little help from my friends)
I'm getting high, I'm gonna make time, oh Lord (Ooh)
Gonna get by with my friends
Oh, I'm gonna get on by, yes I'm gonna get on by, my Lord
I'm gonna tell them all about it, I'm gonna tell them all, yeah yeah
    Joe Cocker Info 📰:
John "Joe" Cocker was born on May 20, 1944 in Crookes, Sheffield, England. He passed away on December 22, 2014 in Crawford, Colorado. He was a singer, songwriter known for his gritty, bluesy voice and dynamic stage performances that featured expressive body movements. Most of his best known singles including: "Feelin' Alright?" and "Unchain My Heart", were recordings of songs written by other song writers, though he composed a number of songs for most of his albums as well, often in conjunction with songwriting partner Chris Stainton. His main musical influences growing up were Ray Charles and Lonnie Donegan. He released a total of 22 studio albums over a 43-year recording career. He was awarded a bronze Sheffield Legends plaque in his hometown in 2007.
Joe Cocker's first experience singing in public was at age 12 when his elder brother Victor Cocker invited him on stage to sing during a gig of his Skiffle music group. In 1960, along with three friends, Joe Cocker formed his first group, The Cavaliers. For the group's first performance at a youth club, they were required to pay the price of admission before entering. The Cavaliers eventually broke up after a year. He attended Sheffield Central Technical School in England in order to become an apprentice gasfitter working for the East Midlands Gas Board, later British Gas Corporation, while simultaneously pursuing a career in music.
In 1961, under the stage name "Vance Arnold", Joe Cocker continued his career with a new group called, Vance Arnold And The Avengers. The name was a combination of Vince Everett, Elvis Presley's character in Jailhouse Rock (which Joe Cocker misheard as Vance), and country singer Eddy Arnold. The group mostly played in the pubs of Sheffield, England performing Chuck Berry and Ray Charles songs. Joe Cocker developed an interest in Blues music and sought out recordings by John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Lightnin' Hopkins and Howlin' Wolf. In 1963, they booked their first significant gig when they supported the Rolling Stones at Sheffield City Hall.
In 1964, Joe Cocker signed a recording contract as a solo act with Decca Records and released his first single, a recording of the Beatles' song: "I'll Cry Instead", with Big Jim Sullivan and Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) playing guitars. Despite extensive promotion from Decca Records lauding his youth and working-class roots, the record was a flop and his recording contract with Decca Records lapsed at the end of 1964. After Joe Cocker recorded the single, he dropped his stage name and formed a new group, Joe Cocker's Blues Band. There is only one known recording of Joe Cocker's Blues Band given out by The Sheffield College during Rag Week and called: "Rag Goes Mad At The Mojo".

In 1966, after a year-long hiatus from music, Joe Cocker teamed up with Chris Stainton, whom he had met several years before, to form The Grease Band. The Grease Band played local clubs in Sheffield, England. The Grease Band came to the attention of Denny Cordell, the producer of Procol Harum, The Moody Blues and Georgie Fame. Joe Cocker recorded the single: "Marjorine", without The Grease Band for Denny Cordell in a London music studio. He then moved to London, England with Chris Stainton, and The Grease Band was dissolved. Denny Cordell set Joe Cocker up with a residency at the Marquee Club in London, and a "new" Grease Band was formed with Chris Stainton and keyboardist Tommy Eyre.
His first solo album: With A Little Help From My Friends (1969), featured a recording of The Beatles' song: "With A Little Help From My Friends", which brought him to near-instant stardom. The song reached number one in the UK in 1968, became a staple of his many live shows ie the Newport Rock Festival in 1969, the Denver Pop Festival in 1969, Woodstock and the Isle of Wight in 1969, and was also known as the theme song for the late 1980s American TV series: The Wonder Years.
He continued his success with his second album, which included a second Beatles' cover song: "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window". A hastily thrown together 1970 US tour led to the live double-album Mad Dogs & Englishmen, which featured an all-star band organized by Leon Russell. His 1974 recording of the song: "You Are So Beautiful", reached number five in the US, and became his signature song. Joe Cocker's best selling song was the US number one song: "Up Where We Belong", a duet with Jennifer Warnes that earned a 1983 Grammy Award.
Joe Cocker kept recording albums and touring throughout the 1990s and 2000s. His 2012 album: Fire It Up, which would turn out to be Joe Cocker's last studio album, was followed by an extensive tour, consisting of a US leg in 2012 and a European run in 2013. The last concert on the tour, which was to be Joe Cocker's final live performance, was at the Loreley Open Air Theatre in Sankt Goarshausen on September 7, 2013.
      Miscellaneous Note 🗂:
On stage, Joe Cocker would often move his hand around, seemingly getting lost in the music. "Moving my hand around is subconscious with me", he explained. "A lot of the time I'm more or less conducting the band, just keeping a feel. I don't know why I do it. It's just one of those things".
      Joe Cocker Passing 🙏:
Joe Cocker passed away from from lung cancer on December 22, 2014 in Crawford, Colorado, at the age of 70. He had smoked 40 cigarettes a day until he quit in 1991.Joe Cocker was laid to rest at the Garden Of Memories Cemetery in Crawford, Colorado.
The two remaining living ex-Beatles, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, were among those who paid tribute to the singer following his death, while Joe Cocker's agent, Barrie Marshall, said that Joe Cocker was "without doubt the greatest Rock/Soul singer ever to come out of Britain".
Paul McCartney commented: "He was a lovely northern lad who I loved a lot and, like many people, I loved his singing. I was especially pleased when he decided to cover 'With a Little Help From My Friends' and I remember him and (producer) Denny Cordell coming round to the studio in Savile Row (central London) and playing me what they'd recorded and it was just mind-blowing, totally turned the song into a soul anthem and I was forever grateful to him for doing that".
In 2017, a feature-length documentary film about Joe Cocker titled: "Joe Cocker: Mad Dog With Soul", was released.

Fun Fact 🕵: Joe Crocker's 1968 song: "With A Little Help From My Friends", was used as the theme song to the popular TV series: The Wonder Years, starring Fred Savage. The show ran six seasons, from 1988-1993. When it was added to Netflix in 2011, it was with a different version of the theme song, as Joe Cocker's song version wasn't cleared. Securing rights to the TV show's theme song and most of the other nearly 300 songs that were used in the show was a challenge, but in 2014 the TV series was finally released on DVD, with most of the songs - including the original theme, intact.
