I loved singing this song when I played back in the 80's....and one of the things that really got to me over the years was when rock star singers got old and just couldn't cut it or come close to their previous selves anymore...sad part of getting old but Sammy still fuckin smokin at his age...and Joe sounds pretty damn good too....and Rick playing with one arm incredible..sounded great ..love it!
First off, that kicked some major ass, mine included. I thoroughly enjoyed that wonderful rocking video. Now, being born in the 50's, you can say without much debate, that I have lived long enough (so far, I've lived in 8 different decades) that when it comes to just the "rock and roll game" and all that it has to offer and all that it has accomplished and given us... me personally, I have either seen, heard, read about, saw on TV or a movie screen and maybe once or twice even taken part of some of the most eye-opening, craziest, impressive, unforgettable, "shake your head in disbelief" accounts of musical genius, debauchery, decadence, sublime talent, upper tier craftsmanship in art, and the best and worse of what this thing called rock "music" has brought forth. Be it the million stories, the many deaths, the performances, the dime a dozen 1-hit wonders, the lifestyles, the money, the breakups, the "were getting the band back together", the common changing members of a band, the touring shenanigans, and just about anything else you can think of, throw that in the mix. THEY ALL, take a backseat to what Richard "Rick" Allen has accomplished in his career. Too me, it's the single most impressive thing that has ever come out of rock and roll in my eyes. A 1-armed drummer? And not missing a beat even after learning a new way of drumming with his legs and feet during a very short hiatus? Are you fucking kidding me? A much deserved tip of my cap and a ton of respect goes out too that man. It doesn't get any more "rock and roll" then beating on those skins and cymbals, laying down a thunderous beat and being "the backbone" of a world famous, highly successful band..... wile doing it with just 1 arm. ONE ARM! I don't see anything ever topping that. But then again, being a dinosaur that I am, my days of roaming the Earth are numbered so I won't see if anything does top it.
Well, it wasn't that brief of a hiatus, as there were four years between Pyromania and Hysteria, but it is indeed remarkable that a drummer was able to continue his career after losing an arm. I remember when they first started performing live again... they had a backup drummer on hand, just in case Rick couldn't actually pull it off. He didn't miss a beat, figuratively and literally.
