Bands like Montrose, UFO and Y&T, are all in my book, the kinds of bands that are timeless. They're in a different class than the "superbands" of their day. IMHO they're better - They all had top-notch musicians and vocalists - they put out multiple albums that you could listen to end-to-end and never get tired of, and they innovative in a different way than those other bands. To me their music is as fresh and original as the day it was recorded. These guys are the true bedrock of the genre.
One of my high school favorites. A must have album in any collection back then. I remember we'd turn "Rock Candy" on so loud it would threaten the windows in the house. Neighbors just loved it too. lol
This is just straight in your face rock. I miss groups like this. Great music by four talented musicians. The band sounds good but damn Church is tearing it up on the bass. 60’s 70’s and 80’s rock will never get old. Listen to this while driving. It’ll make you young again. Rest In Peace Ronnie. Rest In Peace Eddie Van Halen. I hope you two are kicking ass in the heavens.

I used to by my guitars strings ( in bulk ) and other gear from Bill Church when he worked at Sound Stage in Fresno, California . Bill"s brother used to work at Majestic Music in downtown Fresno and is an accomplished Drummer .... both guys are great guys and definitely have music in their DNA.
I saw montrose in 1974 at Cobo hall in Detroit, they opened for Arrowsmith. I was 16 and I will never forget that night. Montrose rock my soul and Sammy's voice was electrifying. There aren't many bands like that left.
If you haven't caught the tribute concert for Ronnie you need to, incredible line up, excellent hat tip to one of the greats, that being said, Sammy told the story of how Ronnie looked out for him, got him set up with a trusted publisher to protect his songs, he could have pulled a Gene Simmons or a Sharon Osbourne and steal his songs for his own personal gain, but he didn't, he set him up for a long and successful career, that shows what an awesome person, not just an awesome musician, he was. RIP in Ronnie, you are missed.
I saw Montrose at Winterland when Hagar was fronting sometime in the mid 70s. I stood at stage left in front of the monitor stack. I still suffer deafness from that one concert. It was the best.
Seen Sammy Hagar open for Boston at the Capitol Centre in Largo, MD. in '78,. and let Me just say,.. Sammy BLEW THE FRIGGIN' DOORS!!! off the Cap Centre that night with all their song from the Montrose years. Then,. Boston comes on sounding like someone put on their Album lol. No Dis against them,. to their credit,. they were simply wrapped that tight..... BUT!!,... Did I mention?,. that by then,.. Sammy Hagar had already,.. BLEW THE FRIGGIN' DOORS off the Cap Centre. LOL xD That was My first Concert at 14 years old. Had already been listening to Montrose, who I still to this day believe were before their time in their sound and style. And on that night,.. Sammy Hagar did NOT disappoint. Boston rocked too,. Great show!.. but was hard to compare the two,.. But the sheer ENERGY Hagar had already blasted the venue with by then,.. left a high bar for Boston to hurdle. LOL
Also saw Sammy at Winterland, but him & bass Player opened 3rd billing to Ronnie ,with drummer , who was headliner. Great show but kinda weird with Sammy opened show. Wish had seen them together.
That was about as tight a group as you will ever see. Denny Carmassi (drums) and Bill Church (bass) were absolutely impeccable behind guitar god Ronnie Montrose. And Sammy's gritty vocals fit in perfectly. They should be in the Rock HofF for their iconic first album alone.
Agree. When you talk about the great American hard rock bands, you have to include Montrose with Aerosmith and VH. I have to include Ted Nugent and Boston in that group as well.
I saw 2 Montrose tribute concerts about 5 yrs ago here in the Sacto area where Ronnie lived. One was a outdoor Sammy Hagar concert with a special Ronnie tribute in the middle when Dave Meniketti came out and they played 3/4 of the 1st Montrose album and the 2nd show was Rick Derringer with Frank Hannon of Tesla in a small club playing Montrose and Gamma tunes the whole night...man both those concerts kicked ass hearing all those bad ass songs. I was in rock n roll heaven.
I was born in 74. Sadly, this is the first ive ever heard this. Exciting to explore some new territory from the past though. I started listening to Hagar on his first Van Halen record when I was 11 or 12. Was instantly my favorite band. I got my first guitar when I was 13, have been playing ever since. Sammy and Van Halen were a big part of my life, now i have this to look back on. Love it. Thanks for sharing!
Awesome set. Thank you. Montrose was in Edgar Winter Group before going on his own and later Gamma. In my early days on the internet, I found he had a site and I sent him an email. He was gracious in his reply. Very underappreciated artist.
RIP Ronny Montrose, had great tone and we used to blast this gem back in the day, the whole album was good too. Just Rock Candy....loud, till the speakers blow

My first concert was Montrose and Foghat on April 10, 1076 at the Greensboro Coliseum. My oldest sister turned me onto it and I was never the same after that show. Been a Rock N Roller ever since........
I had the pleasure of seeing this band in 74 or 75 at Kiel Auditorium in St. Louis. The playbill was Spooky Tooth, Humble Pie and Montrose. I became an instant fan.
Sweet. This is the first band I saw live, right at about the time of this video. It was at Winterland, San Francisco. I was fourteen, and a few of my 8th grade friends got one of the dads to drive us out to the city. I don't know why any of our parents consented. We had a blast, though, in awe that we were in Winterland, and finally getting to experience a real rock show! And Montrose was so heavy. What a great, tight band. That first album was a masterpiece of hard rock. Just what young teenage boys thrive on.
Jesus... thank you for rock and roll. I just don’t know what red blooded rocker fans would listen to if the electric guitar would have skipped our civilization. Thank you Sammy and friends.
I never heard of these guys until recently. Wow, what a treat!! I am almost 50 and grew up continually listening to bands such as Van Halen, Aerosmith, Zeppelin, ZZ Top, etc.
Hard to believe who is in the band listening to rock all your life. Not only Sammy , Ronnie Montrose but Frampton too who is a very under rated guitar player
Can you imagine how loud it was, when the Boys had to put on headphones themselves! Wish I was there. I saw the original line up in early 1975. Fantastic!
In 1992 a friend of mine from the US gave me this album on vinyl.I really loved it.But I lost it while I moved to another place and forgot about it.I opened my eyes to it again when I heard Rock the Nation at a KISS concert titled Rock the Nation tour.

Sammy is timeless.... love when I see stuff from the archives. These guys were tight. First Montrose album is top 10 rock album of all time. Keep rocking Mr. Hagar!!!
You can definitely tell why Eddie van halen chose sammy Hager to take over while david Lee Roth left
Montrose is and always shall be an all star band.this is the definition of a rock band.
Played this album at least 1 million times. It is an absolute master piece. Montrose did not get the credit they deserved!!

Definitely very ahead of its time this is amazing stuff wow! What a jam
Definitely very ahead of its time this is amazing stuff wow! What a jam
Sweet or Montrose? 😉 OK, just kidding.
Fucking A!!!
Sammy & Frampton hold their own too.
My words! Like the same bands.
I’d add Thin Lizzy to that very special group.
100 % agree man
Can't forget Captain Beyond.
One of my high school favorites. A must have album in any collection back then. I remember we'd turn "Rock Candy" on so loud it would threaten the windows in the house. Neighbors just loved it too. lol
Same. Loved to try playing the drums on it too.
The MONTROSE album was always my "stereo tester". If the set could rock that record on 10, then it was a keeper.
Badass Album I had as a high school kid loved it. This album never got enough recognition I always loved it
This is just straight in your face rock.
It will lose you your license!
[edit - I was being silly and juvenile in my original post, so I deleted most of it. 😔 (Too much soda and caffeine)
If I don’t believe in the afterlife, I shouldn’t rudely say so here, which is the wrong place. The OP was just expressing their appreciation for legendary artists who have passed away. I’m sorry.
This part of the post, while juvenile, seems ok. So I’ll leave it.

I saw montrose in 1974 at Cobo hall in Detroit, they opened for Arrowsmith. I was 16 and I will never forget that night. Montrose rock my soul and Sammy's voice was electrifying. There aren't many bands like that left.

Montrose and Aerosmith would be an awesome concert especially back then.
First time I heard montrose(1980) sitting over at my buddies house smoked a bowl😮, absolutely blew me away. Life altering…

Oh, but Gene Simmons is soooo classy 🤨
And Sharon Osbourne was just there to take care of Ozzy. 😌

LOL xD
That was My first Concert at 14 years old.
LOL
Saw that same show , but back near the mix board .
Also saw Sammy at Winterland, but him & bass Player opened 3rd billing to Ronnie ,with drummer , who was headliner. Great show but kinda weird with Sammy opened show. Wish had seen them together.
True rock n roll. Saved the 70’s sht like this. Sammy has an awesome voice Ronny didn’t get what he really deserved as a guitarist.
Truth !!! Criminally overlooked.
Big sound trio. reminds me of Grand Funk Railroad.
That video is actually Alan Fitzgerald on bass, but yeah, Church was great as well.
Hall of fame is a joke. woke idiots
I was in rock n roll heaven.
what,this bill missed,it,,,,,dolla,says,,,good for you
I was born in 74.

The first Montrose Lp is just about perfect. Denny is amazing!
Awesome set. Thank you. Montrose was in Edgar Winter Group before going on his own and later Gamma. In my early days on the internet, I found he had a site and I sent him an email. He was gracious in his reply. Very underappreciated artist.

Denny crushing that kit. This is pure gold right here!
Pretty obvious Carmassi hates his drum kit.....he is beating the shit out of it.

I saw Sammy Hagar at the Rot fest in Austin Texas a few years back - man this dudes voice was just like the studio recordings, I was really not expecting that much. I didn't know he was that good. This guy blew me away with how tight his band was and how well he sang
It is amazing how he's retained his voice after a half century of rock vocals, considering how delicate an instrument it is.
50 years later and Sammy is still killing it.
Ronnie Montrose was a MONSTER on guitar. The whole band was great....
Truly. Up there with the best.
Was a kid , all of us saw them on Don Kirshner's rock concert . All musicians loved them .
