Rick is on fire here, knocking it out of the park. Ringo got it right with the whole idea of the All Starr Band. I remember Edgar singing a vocal riff during a live show. Rick played it back note for note, they went back and forth about 5 to seven times , amazing back in the seventies.
@@stevenvox6549 . . Yeah, Jerry La Croix was the principal lead singer, and Edgar took the lead vocal on some tracks. To tell the truth, I much preferred Jerry's more mature voice to Edgar's screechy vocals. I knew a guy back in the mid-1970s who seemed to pop up everywhere back in those days. He seemed to me to be totally committed to being in show biz, even if it killed him, LOL. He was the bass player in an Art-Rock band called Gentle Art and in that capacity I'd often see him when our band was paying support to his band. He got a bit of a break when he became the night time announcer on Brisbane's 4BK radio station, from 8:00pm to midnight, Monday through Thursday nights. His show was called "The Fat Music Show", in which he played album tracks from all branches of the Rock music family tree. For example, one night he played only music from Prog Rock masters, Yes. What a night that was for me, being a massive Yes fan! Wishbone Ash used to also get a run often. I had well over 300 albums, and fully half of them came from my hearing tracks from them played by Rick on his radio program. It was there that I first heard Tobacco Road, from the Roadworx album by Edgar Winter. You better believe I wasted no time at all heading for the import record store in the city to buy it! I'd been a fan of Johnny Winter since the late 60s, when I first heard Johnny Winter And . . Live, at high school. We were always doing things to raise money for worthy charities, including running a kind of high school lunchtime radio station in which we brought our LPs and 45s to school and played tracks from them by request, which cost 10c per play, proceeds going to the charity we supported. Every little bit helped, I suppose.
OH...MY...GOD!!! I'm 59 & this "old man" has put me to shame with his energy in this performance. This is one of the best live performances I've ever seen, & I've seen a lot. I remember when this song came out. I was 14, & every time it came on the radio, I'd scream & turn it up. Those were the days. It's refreshing to see my generation hasn't completely retired to our rocking chairs.
Rick i have been a fan sincethe edgar winter band seen you hell i dont know over 30 times live and you still blow my mind everytime i watch you play....thanks for all the years of amazing music improvisation and the great times.
Absolutely genius guitarist, songwriter and what an effortless voice...and FUN! I was 15 in 75 a young guitarist and I bought everything RD... high school bands and the road throughout my 20''s..RD and his music were like bread and water. LEGEND!
Watched a video of Pat Benatar earlier. Had this sudden flash of 'Holy Sh*t!' What would it have been like to hear a duet from her and Freddie Mercury?! Great musicians and great singer get together and 'magic happens'.

he played on Todd Rundgren's Double Album Sonething/Anything. followed him since and saw him in '73 or '74. Bad Company opened and Edgar Winter Headlines and he came out and said, "Good Evening, We have a Special Treat for you Tonight." i thought Johnny was there and then Rick runs out on stage drops to his knees and slides about 20 feet, hops up and Starts Wailing. Oh man, Epic. Wish i could have seen him playing on Cyndi Lauper's Tour.

I have been a huge fan of Rick Edgar and Johnny since jr high. Mid 70s have seen them live several times. Ringo did hit the nail on the head. Had the good fortune of seeing an l star show too! Keep playing that rock and roll.
I saw Rick more than once in Memphis in the '70's with Edgar and Johnny. Some of the best shows I have seen, ever. Damn, It seems he has just gotten better. Bravo Rick !!!!!
Love you Rick and your music!!!! Been listening to you since the 60's, and with the Edgar Winter Band, too. Glad to see Edgar on stage, wish we could have brought back Johnny Winter. When I think of this song, I hear Johnny Winters vocals but know that Rick wrote this song. Rick is a guitar God for me and most guitar players, too. Now lets here some Free Ride.
Freaking Rick Derringer tearing it up like no other. The man makes use of the entire fretboard with a flurry of hard to pull off licks like it is second nature. He is one of the best ever. Awesome display of musicianship.
@@groovy56 You've mentioned that a few times ("world class lead guitarist"). I'm not saying you're not. Do you have any links, or should I just check out your channel?
The amazing thing is that Rick's voice sounds like it's 1973, about 40 years before this performance! And wow, the guitar chops are all an audience could ever want. Rick's like fine wine, improving with age.
Indeed. Although I only saw RD a couple of times, I saw Travers a couple *dozen* times in various small venues around DC. Always a great show. Had to go to the Baltimore Civic Center to see Trower in his heyday though...way too big an act for small clubs in those days. And don't forget Rory Gallagher...he was always playing around here, and his shows would go 2 1/2 or 3 hours all the time.
Christopher Parkening ( the worlds greatest classical guitarist) is also a devoted Christian. I'm just a guy that spent many years in Catholic school but i respect both Parkening and Derringer because they could have gone down the road of materialism but they stuck with something much more profound.
I jammed this on a 45 like 10,000 frickin times when I was a kid , this song is part of the fiber that makes me who I am , I knew every word and got so much enjoyment out of it still to this day , one of the greatest rock and roll songs ever made , thank you .

There is only one. Spent decades trying to play the guitar because of this man, at the end of the day I bow in humble admiration. God bless you Derringer.
I was just out of the Navy when this song came out. I bought the album and was dumb-struck by Rick Derringer's talent. Played this album until the grooves wore out. Saw him on tour where he did this song live. It still gives me goosebumps to think about. And now, to see this live performance, I get goosebumps all over again. Rick Derringer is AWESOME!
Back in the 90’s I used to frequent a blues bar in nyc on 2nd Ave. Dan Lynch’s. Often they had some house band in residency. Free admission. They were very good. One night Rick kind of stumbles in. He seemed like he was partying pretty well that eve. He got up with the band was handed the front mans double neck guitar (no idea what make it was, kind of obscure) and proceeded to jam with them for quite a long time. It was such a blast. Grateful for times like these I had back in the day.

I love how Edgar Winter and Rick Derringer did this Together, it’s amazing.
I remember Edgar singing a vocal riff during a live show. Rick played it back note for note, they went back and forth about 5 to seven times , amazing back in the seventies.
@@RobertLofrano . . That was on the song Tobacco Road, from the legendary live album Roadworx. One of the greatest live Rock albums ever recorded!
@@arthurblackhistoric I loved it too. It had a different lead vocalist on some tracks, and it had a variety of cuts - and it was a double LP.
Hello Sylvia how are you 😊
Still jamming to this in 2024!
Awesome 😎
Rick i have been a fan sincethe edgar winter band seen you hell i dont know over 30 times live and you still blow my mind everytime i watch you play....thanks for all the years of amazing music improvisation and the great times.
Rick Derringer he was good.
He's better than he ever was.
Pretty impressive Rick.
Inspirational.
He proved he was earlier then Eddie Van Halen.
Nice Rock and Roll haiku 😁
Great voice
Sounds like Eddie slowed fown
Down
Rick Derringer-pure unadulterated genius.
Rhomboid Imason True! He does for the love of the music not to be a rock star! Gifted, gifted man!
Thank you for the kind words
Absolutely genius guitarist, songwriter and what an effortless voice...and FUN!
I was 15 in 75 a young guitarist and I bought everything RD... high school bands and the road throughout my 20''s..RD and his music were like bread and water. LEGEND!
I love it when you see the greatest musicians together having fun.
Watched a video of Pat Benatar earlier. Had this sudden flash of 'Holy Sh*t!'
What would it have been like to hear a duet from her and Freddie Mercury?!
Great musicians and great singer get together and 'magic happens'.
Rick is a true virtuoso on the guitar and highly underrated! What a performance!
Rick still kickn' it playing awesome riffs with a coin!
Cool Eric- I'm subbed to your channel too. You're no slouch yourself sir! Cheers P[>
Does he use a coin for a pick?
If so has he always?
@@blakewhittington4336 If you look closely at the closeups of his hands, it looks to me like it is a pick. I am not 100% sure but that is what it looks like to me.
One of the best rock and roll guitarists to have made it with a band. Just great.
One of the best solo openings to any song in recording history. Derringer is the balls!
Derringer is so good... love his playing, what a career..... Rock n Roll Hoochie Koo is a classic. Goosebumps listening this song..... His Derringer Live is an amazing album.
he played on Todd Rundgren's Double Album Sonething/Anything. followed him since and saw him in '73 or '74.
Good to see Rick has come full circle w religion...sounds great. 😮 ❤ An eternal King.
Great to see Rick, nailing it and still going all these years. The song is absolute balls to the wall Rock N' Roll! Never gets old, always gets you going! Love it man! ⚡⚡⚡⚡🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠
Hello how are you 😊
When I saw him he looked so Young in the 70s
@@scottkane3776 Hey Scott 😊
If you were going to introduce someone to Rock N Roll who’s never heard it, this is the song to start with!! Never gets old, stands the test of time, pure perfection!
Among musicians, Rick has never been underrated.
Holy Smokes - Great Job Rick - Got to meet him at Ft Myers Beach - Great Guitarist and Christian - helped us name our Rock Group
Rick Derringer & Rock n Roll Hoochie Coo was the ultimate song 🎵
SCHOOL, SURF,N SMOKE ONE!! ANAZING THNX Ringo & Edgar
Woweee Rick really naked it!!
Love from S.Florida!!
Rick is just really, really, really solid guitar player. You don't get to be on Steely Dan tracks unless you're waaaaay above average. For some reason I love that Ringo is here -- it just gives the whole thing good vibes
I know Rick Derringer from Baggies, NYC. Remember Hang on Sloopy. He invited me back to his home with wife Liz
Always loved Ricks music!!!! still do🌟
Came here because I had this song going through my head. Little did I know I would get to hear such a great guitar solo.
Ive been listening to Rick Derringer since Hang On Sloopy, I still have that scratched 45 worn out from listening to great solo over and over, then heard him on Roadwork with Edgar Winter, a real rock and roll guitarist! Always gets better. What he does on this video is fantastic. One of the best players Ive heard.
Rick Derringer is absolutely one of the best to ever do the thing!! 🤘 Rock on Rick!!!
Excellent! Sorry I missed the event! 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
What a great tune from the age of Classic Rock. Thanks Edgar and Rick. Later Bros.
WOW, Rick is still a super performer. I saw him in the 70's with Edgar Winter and in 81 Rick with ZZ TOP. This brings back so many memories. "Keep Rocking"
Saw him in 1974 with Edgar Winter in the Hollywood Sportatorium and they wore yellow jump suits, and about 40 pounds lighter. Still amazing!!!!
Have never seen Ringo play that fast and hard amazing.
one of the GOATS of true Rock N Roll. Thank you Rick Derringer
Ringo looking so cool not sweating it, a great performance by the band.
This guy walks in my store in 2006 and wants a safe to put a guitars in it. I had no idea it was Mr Derringer.Nice guy so glad i got to meet this legend and his lovely wife.
Sure it wasn't a safe for his massive collection of guns?
Rick had a bad habit of forgetting to take his firearms out of his carry on luggage. Got busted a few times by TSA. LOL
@@erikl6983 When your surname is Derringer , you've got to carry. Actually , I think that his real surname is Zehringer. Probably not a descendant of gunsmith Henry Deringer.
, probably donated some autographs to TSA agents all over the country!
Ringo is the Star that spreads the Live Music news now. Such a great show every Time! Peace for Nostalgic Love in the Heartbeat of Classic Live Music. THX gizzillions!
Well, that just put a smile on my face. You can't be pure rock and roll.
He always looks likes he is happy and having fun when he performs...
I have been a huge fan of Rick Edgar and Johnny since jr high. Mid 70s have seen them live several times. Ringo did hit the nail on the head. Had the good fortune of seeing an l star show too! Keep playing that rock and roll.
Hello Richard how are you 😊
Rick is one of the all time greats.....
I've got blisters on my fingers just from watching that. DAMN, son!
I saw Rick more than once in Memphis in the '70's with Edgar and Johnny.
Some of the best shows I have seen, ever. Damn, It seems he has just gotten better. Bravo Rick !!!!!
Ringo is always in the best bands
He HIRES them.!!.....it's a cash cow for RICHARD STARSKY
@@kendallevans4079 Yep Kendall true. He always has a drummer to cover his arse as well.
@@joemorris143 Why would Ringo need to cover his arse?
He was in another band?
Rick you shredded the hell out of that guitar solo!! This is rockn roll ! Hoochie Koo!
Midway through this video, was just listening, and I'm flabbergasted!!! That solo is just....mindblowing.
My first concert was Rick Derringer at the old College of Staten Island, sometime around 1980. I was in awe then and still am to this day.
Awesome rockin' solo! Rick sounds so good here.
Wow, still so very impressive as to what a great guitar player he really is!!
Thank you Mr Derringer!
Ringo's idea of year after year touring with legends of rock and roll was and still is brilliant. I have several of his All Star Band recordings.
Freaking Rick Derringer tearing it up like no other. The man makes use of the entire fretboard with a flurry of hard to pull off licks like it is second nature. He is one of the best ever. Awesome display of musicianship.
Derringer is a ROCKER of the 1st degree! Those pussies out there today won’t be doing this shit even close to this at 70, guaranteed.
@D. Dalton Roc'zombie Lay off the pipe Zombie!!
Scott Tracy the guy is unbelievable good, top 10 ever!
@@groovy56 You've mentioned that a few times ("world class lead guitarist"). I'm not saying you're not. Do you have any links, or should I just check out your channel?
@D. Dalton Roc'zombie ?
AMAZING.......GETTING THE CHILLS......RICK STILL PLAYS GREAT !!!! ALL AMERICAN BOY BABY...
Wow! Amazing where following the trail of Sloop Girl will take you! Superb Rickness! 🤩💯❤💋
The amazing thing is that Rick's voice sounds like it's 1973, about 40 years before this performance! And wow, the guitar chops are all an audience could ever want.
Rick's like fine wine, improving with age.
Rick , pat travers, Robin Trower, certainly in same brood
They all have provided me with yrs of great music
Rock on!
Used to listen to Trower in the early 70s!
I remember Rick from The McCoys ,he is a great great guitar player, with many fantastic songs.
My God! Is this awesome? The guitar, AND superb vocals. Outrageous. He has lost NOTHING!
I saw Rick with Edgar Winter in Toronto a long time ago. Great concert.
Nag’s Head North in the 80’s for me!
Rick still has it all those long years ago. Nice to know he has become a born again Christian I'm one and proud of it. Thanks for sharing the video.
Christine Klinger I’m glad Rick turned his life around.
Christopher Parkening ( the worlds greatest classical guitarist) is also a devoted Christian. I'm just a guy that spent many years in Catholic school but i respect both Parkening and Derringer because they could have gone down the road of materialism but they stuck with something much more profound.
I'm flattered.
ANY born again christian is my friend. Sure helps when they can play like Rick! Haha!!!
I jammed this on a 45 like 10,000 frickin times when I was a kid , this song is part of the fiber that makes me who I am , I knew every word and got so much enjoyment out of it still to this day , one of the greatest rock and roll songs ever made , thank you .
What song defines early 70s hard rock? Here you go! This song is awesome on so many levels, it's ridiculous! And Rick is an incredible singer - wow! Still got it!
Thank you Ringo for all you have done for Rock and Roll. You brought these legends back to us for many years!!
I feel so fortunate to have seen them in the early 80’s. Incredible!
There is only one. Spent decades trying to play the guitar because of this man, at the end of the day I bow in humble admiration. God bless you Derringer.
Light that fuse!! Rick could keep that fuse lit like no other!
When I saw Rick open for Boston & ARS early '77, he absolutely stole the show! One of my all-time favorites.
WOW!!! Rick, I had no idea!!! You ROCK, if I may say so!
I grew up listening to Rick on 8 track tapes in my car, played at high volume. Loved "Beyond the Universe" and the epic solo on Loosen your Grip" still sends chills down my spine. Keep on Rockin' , Rick!
He's the Real McCoy!!!! It was Hang on Sloopy and Teenage Love Affair for me!!!!!!!!
Hello Karl how are you 😊
Man, that was one bad ass live version of that song ever.👍🎸
Rick Derringer knows how to play that Geetar mang....."Keep on Rockin"...gotta love that...been feeling bad...you made me cry happy....Thanks bro...
I used to have this album back in the 70's, he was a little cutie , played guitar with gloves on, he was only 18 when he did this song
I'm 57, this song came out when I was 9 or 10. They are more amazing now than ever.
What an incredible performance and one of the best guitarist and guitar solos of all time!!! Thanks guys Ricknroll!!!
That sure brings back a lot of good memories from a great era in music and society.
Hello Randy how are you 😊
Wow glad I found this excellent! I meet Rick in a theater here in Oregon at a showing of "Rocky" when it came out, he was playing here that week. Only rock and roll star to ever shake my hand, will always remember that.
Hello Jack how are you 😊
Had front row seats to the Edgar Winter Group in 1976.....i still have the guitar pick Rick Derringer threw off stage...
Cool--Did they play Teenage love affair?
i saw Edgar many times with Montrose on guitar-he smoked Derringer
@@thomasfoss9963 yeah he played a lot of stuff of of All-American Boy....i sure remember Frankenstein and Keep Playin' That Rock and Roll!..that was so long ago i can't remember every song and that was the only time i saw The Edgar Winter Group....sorry it took me a year to respond...
@@tonyspada2744 Never got to see them with Montrose....i did see the band Montrose with Sammy Hagar on vocals....I remember Bad Motor Scooter.....they played a concert with Spooky Tooth and Humble Pie here in 1975...it was billed as Humble Pie's "farewell" tour...this was with Clem Clempson and Greg Ridley......where i live, my city was bad about not getting certain bands until they were kinda on their way down....i always wanted to see the Doobie Brothers but they didn't come here until the Stampede album...i would have loved to see the Captain and Me tour.....there were lots of bands i didn't get to see until they had made a name for themselves for 4 or 5 years....
The amount of talent on that stage is mind blowing !
Richard Page seems to be immune to getting old.
And Gary Wright from Spooky Tooth!!!!!
RIck Derringer is awesome! I saw him twice back in the day and he got the crowd going crazy every time.
Derringer is a Goddamn beast and I love the Eruption licks he through into his solo!!!!!
The greatest rock song ever written.
OK, I'll chime in. I saw Rick Derringer in Tampa circa 1979. Roy Buchanan opened. Derringer blew the roof off. Both bands kicked ass. The Derringer Live album is unbelievable. He plays better live than in a studio. There's a hell of a lot of top rated guitarists that can't do that.
Wow!! Amazing guitar!!
And what a great player Rick is!
I always felt this song was so under rated when it was released but for me it was the best guitar jam ever. Now to see this video !!! You ROCK Rick!!!
