Sorry, but you have been listening to the wrong people. I worked for British Airways for 10 years (1991-2001) and in that time they did not have a single Portuguese pilot flying for them. Is worth mentioning that this airport track has been upgraded and renovated a few times since 20 years ago. Back THEN was the real scary to land because the track was very short and you had to touchdown right at the start in the edge of a mountain rock. When it was windy you couldnt land, had to wait circling the airport until either the wind calms or you run out of fuel and gamble the landing. Also the technology 20 years ago was nothing like what we have today when its all fully automated. Nowadays its easy to land on this airport, just like any other airport, only the view and feeling is different.

😀👍👌 poncha
I've seen a lot of videos of planes landing at this airport but this video is the BEST so far.
It´s the most .... imagine 40 years ago, when it was only half the size. I landed there in 1975 in a 727. I still remember the (almost) extreme braking.
Your visit was wonderful Sam!
it was fantastic to meet you.
I hope in the future you visit Madeira again
That retro livery is just so delicious. Looks so cute.
It was used from 1946 to 1980 and to me it remains the most beautiful Indeed. Then they used another until 2006 which was ok, and I find the current one the worse of all. Namely it creates visual drag.
That place looks like heaven on the side of a mountain. Copilot is sooo pretty she is the only reason that I clicked on the video
I need to visit Madeira!! Thanks Sam.
The first officer was gorgeous!
Anyone has her ig account?
@@manswkwok ig is darochacastanheira
*Good to see your landing*
I love ur content
you're* and changed the whole meaning
Excellent video. When you have crosswinds landing can be very challenging and the approach can be scary. TAP pilots always try to land, it is amazing for us spotters.
Beautiful and superb landing, on beautiful Madeira!!!....miss it soooo much❤️🇵🇹🌴
And beautiful firts officer in the return flight!!!!!
Do you have roots to Madeira?
It’s August 2023 just found your great channel. I have been following Pedro’s Plane Spotting Channel for months now so it was great to see him in your video. I truly loved the whole video as it gave me a great experience to watch from the aircraft a landing. Thank You 👍👏✈️
Great photography and crew interaction. Well done!
3:56 - Three hundred and ten ... never heard that callout! :) Also, I think the furst officer at the end fell a bit in luv with you. Her smile alone, and willingness to share her background story and pictures, that's so cute. :)
Lovely video Sam ! It is interesting to see a an amazing female pilot landing a plane ❤️ we are so proud
Was here in the '80s when our band (from Toronto) played in Funchal. Landed at night, so didn't see anything, but on the way back (during the day) drove along a cliff, then saw the runway!
I saw you on Madeira Airport Spottings UA-cam Story, hope you had fun!
same
Is worth mentioning that this airport track has been upgraded and renovated a few times since 20 years ago.

@@mariobento1191 Agora com essa informação... ja consigo ouvir isso.. até este moment era só o "chegamos fodasse" :D
WOW...probably the most beautiful Pilot around the world ;))))
Madeira was my favorite vacation!
What is there to do there for tourists?
@@Dr.Pepper001 yes there is, a lot
What did you do in Madeira?
@@AzureKite191 you can roll down the streets in the tradicional madeira wood carts, go visit the trails in the mountains or visit Cabo Girão, the highest cliff in Europe, at almost 600m. You can taste our tradicional Bolo do caco, made in stone furnaces, or espetada, or even the classic bolo de mel. There is aswell the well known Madeira wine and the banana which we export all over the world. After this, you can still visit the tradicional triangular Santana houses, and take a visit to the hundreds of museums we have here, from the whale museum to the comtemporanium art museum, from CR7 to the etnographic museum, passing by the manual arts museum, where you can find the tradicional furniture and basquets made of cane, tradicional stuff aswell. If this wasn't enough, take a visit to our golden beach island, Porto Santo, visit the natural vulcanic caves in Porto Moniz, check the stunning views in Ponta de São Lourenço.
@@Dr.Pepper001 Pretty much everything. lol
Everything in that video was beautiful… how rare. ❤️
She’s smart/talented enough to be a pilot and pretty enough to be a flight attendant. Wow 🤩
Gloryfied bus drivers until something goes wrong.
@@jepulis6674 what a pilot is?
Great airport, very chilled. Loved Madeira, hugely underrated.
I’ve landed in Funchal a few times before, I used to live there
Wow ! The take offs and landings of the captain very very perfect.....
I’ve just been to Madeira. Quite a landing for sure. On the way back my flight was postponed until the next day due to wind conditions. Lovely island, very clean, green, loved the food and people as well.,
And you are welcome back any time :)
I agree with you, by the way where are you from?
@@italianprince8858 I’m from Madeira and just came back 2 years ago , lived in London for 19 years :)

Welcome
In love with the first officer 🌝
Incredible! Amazing Sam, how relaxed you are!
11:56. What a beauty!
hope you stay some time in Madeira, Sam, and enjoy it :D
check the old photos of the airport with the shorter runway.... only one deadly accident there in the 70s, the single one in TAP's history
The most beautiful approach for airplanes over 100 seats in the world. Just the approach deserves the visit, the paradise island is a bonus
Sam you should do more European flights they are interesting ✈️
Portugal 🇵🇹 and Spain 🇪🇸 are both so beautiful I had a very smooth landing 🛬 to Mediera and staying there was so pretty
Great camera position for capturing take-off and landing. I've never seen that before. Thank you for filming, editing, and posting.
I flew in and took a ship to the Caribbean several days later .. Both Lisbon and Madeira are great , but very different places. It's a treat to go, especially with Sam via video!
Which do you like better: Lisbon or Madeira?
That final turn reminds me of Kai Tak sooo much
Only less skyscrapers to fly in-between. I know from my parents that you could actually stand on those skyscrapers and look in to the aircraft as the windows where at eye level.
I was a bit to young to experience that back in 1992 to 1994 but I did love it there.
Fantastic video and great to see you teaming up with Pedro!! Awesome!
Incredible engineering behind building this airport
Another very nice vídeo, this time in my Portugal.
Did not know about the skate and go kart spots under the runway.
Thank you.
I never had a problem flying into Madeira. Fortunately good weather each time :)
Lucky you took me 2 days to make it and in the second day the landing was sketchy
Only best pilots are allowed to fly to Madeira
@@ejusius We had to be selected then fly with a trainer the first two times into Madeira to become qualified
Sam chui is the best youtuber when it comes to avaition ❤️👍👍👍 lots of love to sam from india.....

Gotta say your travelogues are excellent, Sam. I really enjoy them. Impressive how you get cameras in the cockpit like that. Thank you for a great viewing experience.

Sam absolutely love your channel. Ive watched everything 2/3 times. Great content man absolutely love you
Everywhere you go, you have an amazing viem from the airport, definitely it's a beautiful island!!!
