This video has completely changed my Golf game. I cannot believe it. I have gained a massive amount of club head speed and distance and I’m hitting the ball straight up. I cannot thank you enough for this video. This is the best explanation of how to play golf ever thank you.
Thanks Alex. This has been my main focus this summer. I also follow Eric Cogorno on UA-cam and he also stresses this move. Its great when i see two teaching pros teaching similar swing keys as it confirms for me that I’m on the right track and makes me confident in bringing this to the course. I have struggled with forward shaft lean and ball compression, but this move combined with proper wrist hinging (which you talked about in a recent video and which Eric stresses as well) has got me back to a 3.7 index this summer. Thanks so much!
NOTE: I have been saying - - - - - : "set your trail elbow somewhere between your trail hip and navel as the downswing starts." - - - - for over 5 years. Glad to hear the word spread, thanks.
Thanks Alex, and one of your best videos. Many people never explain and demonstrate the complete motion and folks give up on this very important move. Now I better understand why Pete Cowen calls this "spinning your arm down".
Excellent video Alex on showing the importance of the right arm and elbow is in making a quality golf shot. By putting the right arm in in the right position in the downswing, it also puts the body in its proper tilt. Well Done Alex! Keep up the good work!
If I'm not mistaken, I've been winning the arm wrestle which has led to my over the top swing and caused a very weak strike of the ball. I will incorporate losing the arm wrestle and see how it goes. Thanks for the visual, Alex!
Started to actually to close my right dominant eye, leaving my left eye to stay steady on the ball and getting really great distance and accurate shots. And I will be sure to make sure it also put this in my routine.. If you are left eye dominant , you are lucky..
Thanks for the video. 1) As already mentioned many balls go about 30 degrees to the right. Not sure if body rotation too slow / incomplete or whether should close the face sometime im up or down swing 2) More critical is how to keep doing this correctly when going to full swing?! I manage the drill but lose it during full swing (with a ball). Any advice how to move from drill to full swing?
So @3:30 I played your swing in slow motion and man were you on perfect plane coming down? This is something I've been working on and what is your thought on the right arm? Straightening the entire way from the top continuing down through impact. Most of the time at club parallel in the down swing by hands are still too high to wear the pros. Hands are at mid thigh
Great move and drill. For me it leads to the club face being open at impact. Your club face looks quite open at P6 too. Any drills to square/close the club face you could pair with this drill?
Excellent video that answer a lot of my questions. Thanks. The "feel' of pulling your arms into your side is obviously not what you do, the "real". However, what is the real is there a gap between the elbow and the body, i.e. is this feel done further away from the body? I sometimes feel like my right leg is in the way of the downswing, if you follow me?
Great video again! not in the chair, I'm in the yard practicing your chipping drills haha. Alex when you do these drills and make a swing, could you put in a slow motion swing video? I try to watch everything when you swing, but of course is so quick hard to watch hands, arms, etc.
This looks like Hogans pre 1950 swing when he was trying to stop hooking. Trouble with it is that the face is wide open coming in to the ball which requires huge forearm rotation and when Hogan did this He sometimes hit huge hooks since he overcooked hand action and closed the face, the thing He was trying to prevent. He changed that part of his swing and while his right arm and elbow were close to His right side He didn't lead as much as He did pre 1950. Just My opinion Alex and certainly is better than throwing the club out and over coming down. Ray
Exactly right. HUGELY important move that unlocks everything for me. But must mention this needs to be combined with aggressively twisting the wrists to close the clubface. Some call it a "motorcycle move" with the hands/wrists etc (Watch viktor hovland, Dustin johnson, spieth, john rahm, morikowa etc.). otherwise this elbow move will massively open the clubface 👍. Another pitfall for me was lifting my left shoulder and arm as well while doing this. The right elbow abducts against the left arm while the left arm and left shoulder stay down
I have no issues getting the movement correct but have issues not letting the club go from there to square up, leading to me glancing with a open face or hosel.
Alex. My problem is I’m so focused on driving the elbow in that I hold that angle to long and can’t extend the elbow, ie. throwing the ball down at the target line. How do I fix this?
Alright this poses a question for me Alex. Which arm is the powerful arm in a swing? As in do you pull with your left arm or pull down with your right? This drill looks like your power comes from your right hand but for me, I pull with my left and right is more stability. Am I backwards? Wondering because I have left shoulder pain every once in a while as a result.
When I try to do this the butt of the club goes into the ball instead of the face, having trouble with the 'motorcycle move' part that actually closes the clubface. Is there a video you have on that?
Excellent Show😋👏. And next video is ?? Please🙏🙏🤭🤸."From hands loaded, releasing thru "path.." This is the most difficult one move to practice..because then right handpath goes left, over left toes..But clubhead still comes into ball on neutral path. Best Professional Regards. Thank You for a Great JoB, always!!👻
I struggled with this move until I realised that it was much easier when i produced enough downward presssure on the club handle in the lower half of the swing to counterbalance the weight of the club head otherwise it felt like it was pulling my right elbow from my rib cage. I wonder if anyone else has had this experience
OK, so when you show the elbow movement, I noticed at first, your elbow is away from your body. However when you use the head cover, the elbow stays tight to the body. So am I understanding this right, that once we learn the feel, the elbow can start separating from the body for more power maybe? I'm confused on that part Alex. Could you please help me understand.
This looks like outstanding instruction and something that I have not been able to solve for decades, even though shooting scratch and better! My only suggestion from a critique standpoint and to help your channel... your move illustrating casting is far too overboard, nobody swings like that. I suggest you tone down that illustration. It's ok to exaggerate a little bit but not that much, lol. The rest of your lesson looks excellent. I will now subscribe and head to the driving range!
I know, it isnt the easiest in the world, but you can do it. Just keep trying, i promise even if you manage to get there a bit it will help for sure Eric
Trying these positions and drills showed me how much I do NOT keep my hips back. There is literally no room for me to get into these positions with my normal hip movements.
Is so annoying when 80% of us cannot get easily thir elbow on that position, do frustrating when instructors do not understand peoples limitations I guess that is what you get for ree instruction.
Lets see your swing at regular speed. No one has that much shaft lean at regular speed. And Pete Cowan would laugh at your right arm angle and hand position in the down swing. Ar the hip level your swing needs to close that club face so much faster then with Pete Cowan's swing
*RIGHT arm in front is the key to this! But just copy these 3 stages to bring it into your game!*
Great video

Absolutely brilliant! Thank you

Just what I needed today! I’ve struggled with my irons for years. Thank you!
Great video and excellent that you showed the pitfalls of trying a new technique. Not too many explain the pitfalls. Once again, great video

You discribed it perfectly Alex. Thank you

Very good video. I was missing the arm across the chest. Thx Alex!
right into the slot right away, thank you Alex! This by far the best tip for me! Keep it up.
that give blood position is a key element of this, too.
Learnt a new swing the other day from my coach, this was one of the main takeaways so thanks for reading my mind! haha
Happy to help!
Awesome . Like how you mention loose arm wrestle.
Appreciate the support
Thanks Alex for the video
My pleasure!
I’ve been losing arm wrestles all my life. I’ll try to incorporate this into my golf swing
Excellent.
That’s pretty darn good. Cheers!
Thanks for the video.

Yeah that’s right, ahhh i know straightening the arm is risky as sometimes it might not always work!
Should you need to manually close the face when doing this via forearms/wrists?
Great tip👍 Love the shirt❤️ Thanks so much😁
very helpful!

Course! Great suggestion eric
This is great, what about the releasing of the club? It feels like my elbow catapults the forearms, but I'm not sure if that's right.
Brilliant
Does keeping the trail arm "tucked" work for driver as well?

First hit not so good, eh, lol (edit @ 3:25-3:30) Good video, Alex. I struggle with this and look forward to working on it using these tips.
Just love your videos
Thank you
Great video
Thanks for the visit

Does this work also work for driver?
No i wouldn’t use for driver

How do you square the club face? This leaves my face wide open. Help
Hi! I have a video on this tonight - link here ua-cam.com/video/cw41ZvQEjNc/v-deo.htmlsi=ZHLHG0fyj7cnRBKf

Exactly Eric, its more about starting away from the body and keeping it close as you turn, to prevent that chicken wing.

@@AlexElliottGolf Awww ur so sweet Alex, just when I thought I couldn't like you more your reaction is priceless lol.... rock on brother😄🤭😁
'TRAIL' arm!
Nice shirt
I tried this and it is harder than you make it look haha. I will keep at it though.
I know, it isnt the easiest in the world, but you can do it. Just keep trying, i promise even if you manage to get there a bit it will help for sure Eric
Aughh, that's why im not good at golf...I'm Really good at arm wrestling..damn my greatness..🤗🤪😝🤣🍻
