The illusion of the marble mausoleum was solid, because it’s what stuck in my mind forever...as a kid, I was forever terrified of going into any mausoleum, because I couldn’t get the imagine out of my head that a steel orb would come flying around a corner and drill into my head. They did an extremely awesome job building that illusion. So innovative.
It's awesome seeing these great behind the scenes footage from back then. They don't make movies like this anymore. The good old fashioned days and the basic times. Before the cell phone and internet addiction. Phantasm now turns 45. R.I.P to Angus Scrimm. He passed back in 2016.
The atmosphere is what makes this movie. The coffin was made outta balsa wood you can tell it's super lightweight....and weirdly shaped so Angus could put it under his arm.
Wow, watching how you did these scenes is utterly fascinating. I was just watching the film, and I wondered how you did the scene where Angus lifts Mike and carries him to the hearse. I couldn’t figure out how it was done. I knew he couldn’t have actually carried him, and I could see no wires or a harness visible. The camera dolly...that’s pretty cool. Yes, it worked well. I believed it.
This was a really cool video! I had no idea how some of these effects were done, and I never would have guessed the dolly was used to allow the Tall Man to carry Mike. I also love how laidback and relaxed Don and Reggie are.
Thanks Don you creative genius. I just left you something on your Twitter page. I just ordered your memior. Everyone watching this, that's a true fan, should read Don's Memoir.
This is by far one of the greatest horror movies of all time
I totally agree. I can watch it back to back with no problem. Saw it in the theater when it came out. So scary.

I love seeing these making-of videos. Great film. Saw it in '79. I thought Mike was so cool back then and I still think so today.
The Tall Man...The best horror Icon of ALL time...Angus Scrimm. RIP
When Todd McFarlane made the 18" Movie Maniacs, I was hoping he'd make The Tall Man.
Phantasm is one of the best horror movies ever made ...
The voice of Reggie, how cool is that!
Just Golden is what it is...I could listen to this for hours. Awesome upload!!
Btw, It’s not hoakey stuff Don...

Very impressive that young filmmakers had this vast knowledge of production back then.

reggie was a badass but I hate him in the movie because 'he was thinking with the wrong head', but others in jeopardy
As a self-proclaimed horror movie expert.......I seriously thought the mausoleum was real.
1:28 Ah yes... Reggie Canister
Michael gross-
Saw Phantasm in 1979 at a drive in, never even got to make out with the girl, the movie was too damn good! And Don, its Morningside, not Sunnyside!
