    I really appreciate it man, very helpful. I have 2016 550i xdrive n63tu that just hit 60k and I'm working on getting these parts in your video. I also did coils and plugs, mahle engine air filters, and coolant flush, thinking about maybe replacing transmission fluid? any thoughts? not only on this but on any maintenance in general to watch out for before doing a custom tune?

    • @AutoLust
      @AutoLust  9 місяців тому

      Thanks for supporting the channel family. I would do the trans fluid no later than 80k and about the only maintenance you have to worry about with a tune is using 5W40 oil and change your oil every 4k miles. Never wait on the computer to tell you to change it because nothing is stock anymore. You need more protection and cleaner oil also replacing the coils and spark plugs earlier than usual because the tune will use them up very quickly. Mine usually lasts around 10-15k miles but some people get more depending on how aggressively you drive the car and how aggressive the tune is.

      Thanks I appreciate that and for supporting that channel fam 💯 If you have the 535 you more than likely have the N55 engine which is the straight 6. The straight 6 has an electronically controlled water pump and thermostat, but it's even easier for your engine and you don't have to buy any physical parts or do any labor. All you have to do is buy BM3 or MHD tuning software and turn on super cool mode. That way your car stays running a lot cooler and you have access to stage 1 and stage 2 power maps 🚀

      @AutoLust  Рік тому

      Thanks for supporting the channel fam. I think someone left a link for the cap and one of the comments under this video. Also you want to use 5w40 oil as it protects the engine better at operating temperature. If you drive the car hard and or race I would do the oil cooler valve as well. If you can't find the radiator cap any BMW cap that looks like your original one with a lower bar printed on top should fit. The six-cylinder engines in the five and the six series uses the SUV cops instead of the V8 cab so it's harder to find the right cat but you could also call a dealership parts department and ask them what's the lower bar version of your original cap.

      Thanks for supporting the channel fam. If the T-stat fits the F90 M5 then it should fit your engine as well since they are basically the same engine. This T-stat has been available since the first s63 engine so I'm sure the fitment isn't updated every year. All of my cars have it and none of them were on the fitment list. I wouldn't change the cap without changing the T-stat first. I left a link in another comment for a lower bar cap. Once it's tested for fitment I'll put its link in the description.

    Hey bro 3 questions where did u get reverse osmosis water from and I got a 2018 650i does the thermostat matter I've seen different temp ratings fir this same model number that you have on that box u showed last how much water wetter did u put In the whole system 1 whole bottle or more than 1

    • @AutoLust
      @AutoLust  2 роки тому

      You can buy the water from any grocery store. Just look on the bottle and it will tell you the method it was filtered and look for reverse osmosis. The Hamburg tech t-stat should only come and the factory 105°c and then the 90°c if you use the link in the description you will order the right one. I put a quarter of the bottle in the intercooler system and the rest in the coolant system. Make sure you add at least 15 to 20% 50/50 coolant as well for long-term. I did this mod on all three of my BMWs a while ago and everything is still running cool and extremely reliable. Thanks for supporting the channel family 🏎️💨

    • @AutoLust

      Thanks for supporting the channel fam. The thermostat is by far the best cooling mod you can do to the 4.4. Really it's all that's needed to extend the life and reliability of the engine. The thermostat not only Lowers coolant temperatures it lowers oil temperatures and n underhood temps as well. The next best thing to kill underhood temps is getting the downpipes wrapped in DEI titanium heat wrap you should be good to go.

      Thank you very much for supporting the channel. With the n63 the 90° thermostat should be enough I only did the thermostat with my 650i and it ran nice and cool all through the year you only need to do the cooler valve if it gets extremely hot or you take the car to the track, but you can always try the cooler valve also and if it's too much cooling it's easily removed with the oil change.

      @@vladimirdugue6798 No such thing as running too cool. Not with these mods. The DME is more than capable of compensating for the cooling mods. Depending on which BMW model you have it might take a little longer to reach temperature with the oil cooler valve. If you're not drag racing or live in a hot climate like Florida Texas Arizona or doing circle track racing then I only recommend doing the thermostat swap and radiator cap.

  • @dredmobile105

    Damn im glad i found this , this will complete what im going to do to help my moms dream car last a long long time. She bought a 2010 750i with only 13k miles and I didnt know much about them but after looking them up my heart dropped . Car no longer qualifies for the CCP despite it being basically brand new so everything is up to me to keep that car rolling . Already planned catless downpipes and getting them ceramic coated and wrapping them. With that going to get the turbos and manifolds coated and get the turbo blanket from PTP . Also removing the stock intake and installing the ARM intake in order to use the air ducts to allow more outside air to get inside the engine bay. ALso removing the trim around the engine bay to allow heat to escape . Of course it has to be tuned as well and also doing 1 step colder plugs . Its gonna have a little extra bite but with my mom being 80 she doesnt get into the throttle so she will be fine. We live down south and with this humidity im using everything I can think of to combat the heat issue so moms can be worry free.
    Funniest part is she going to have the fastest car in the family because im going to be working her car while my poor truck sitting there waiting for me to work on it lol. Its ok though, she deserves it working hard all her life so its way past time she gets to enjoy it.

    • @AutoLust

      The oil temperature only drops low when you're cooling it down on the highway cruising. My X6M has a huge oil cooler right in the front so it's easy to cool when cruising but if you're just idling or driving pretty hard the oil temperature will rise just like a car without the mod but it will never get as hot as it used to. It still will reach operating temperature and beyond depending on what you're doing. When I'm at the track or driving hard on the highway in sport mode my temperature goes to about where it would be going on a nice cool day if I was driving regular meaning I'm getting 100% performance and power and consistent times at the track. You will still be able to check your oil temperature just fine once it heats up. You have to remember I have a car with a way bigger cooler that's why my temperatures drop faster and lower. So at high temperatures it protects the engine a lot better and it aids in oil consumption because it doesn't thin out as much when the engine reaches temp. BMW engine temps are extremely high due to EPA and MPG regulations, but it also harms the engine and reduces reliability because of extreme engine temps. The last thing the dealer or BMW group wants to do is give you a completely reliable engine to last you a long time because then they make no money from you having to buy another. Once you realize that automobile engines are purposely made to break after a certain point, Then you will understand why reliability mods are the best thing you can do to counteract what the car manufacturers have set you up for. • @AutoLust

      Thanks for supporting the channel fam. The answer to both questions is no. The M5 and the M6 are the worst offenders of overheating to the point where on high performance runs on hot days, the coolant tank can crack and coolant sprays in the engine bay. If you ever smelled the sweet smell of coolant when you pop your hood after a long drive or a performance run then you know it's leaking already. The whole reason for this mod was to mitigate the overheating issues on these engines. BMW would never give you such reliability to where you can have the car long-term without lining their pockets with money for the rest of your life. I'm positive the t-stat fits your M6, but your 550i is right on the edge so you will need to refer to the link I left in the pinned comment at the top to see of your car is in the fitment list for the 550i because the newer model G chassis cars with the N63tu4 has a totally different thermostat system.

    There is a solid reason why the oil temperature is uses instead of the coolant temperature. The oil temperature is a better indicator of the temperature inside the engine. Coolant temperature guages are essentially idiot guages. The oil temperature indicator is also because an engine should never be revved until it is at operating temperature. The coolant temperature indicator doesn't tell the correct temperature inside the engine and can result in damage to the engine. BMW did it right.
    Perhaps you live in a warmer climate so using just 10% coolant can work. However, if someone did the same in a cold climate they should expect their intercooler to freeze and burst causing a lot of damage and cost.
    The longer it takes to warm up your oil, coolant and engine the more damage that can happen to the engine. The goal for properly maintaining an engine is to get the engine and transmission up to operating temperature as quickly as possible then stabilize it. This is where the engine operates best.

    just fyi, a higher pressure radiator cap would make your car run cooler. the higher pressure makes the air bubbles smaller, allowing more water to touch the metal parts of the engine and radiator.

    • @AutoLust
      @AutoLust  2 роки тому +21

      Thanks for supporting the channel, but fyi if you're going to swap to a (15°C) lower thermostat (90°C) vs the factory (105°C) before using the lower psi cap like the whole point of the video implies then it's no need for the same PSI cap as you're not running the same temperature anymore. The whole purpose for the lower temp t-stat is to help cool a engine that from the factory overheats itself constantly on each heating and cooling cycle and that's why the life/reliability is extremely short. The purpose of the lower PSI radiator cap is to keep unneeded pressure off of the seals to prevent leaks since you're not running at a temperature that needs the factory pressure anymore. I drag race my cars a lot and never had a problem with getting anywhere near the temps it used to (while drag racing) especially not the point of overheating or boiling over with these cooling mods that are proven and ran on almost every BMW track car/hot climate car that I have seen. Maybe cooling mods work different for an Audi, but I can confirm for a BMW S63, S63TU, N63 and N63TU. Once it's understood how the cooling system works it's common sense that lower temp + lower pressure = increased longevity and performance especially on a computer controlled car that's meant to retard timing after a certain temperature.

      Definitely not true. Make sure you're very careful on where you get your information because a regular upkeep Euro mechanic and a performance shop Euro mechanic are two completely different types of mechanics. This part was built by a company that makes a lot of parts for BMW and is a factory style drop-in replacement sold by some of the biggest German performance companies in the world. This mod has been done since the very first E70 X5M that's well before the first F10 M5 and not one single soul has made this claim. No mechanics no tuners and not even BMW.

    • @AutoLust
      @AutoLust  Рік тому

      Once your car is tuned it's not "STOCK" anymore and your tuner can see EVERYTHING going on with air fuel ratio trims. Thats how they tune the car to begin with. A regular mechanic would know nothing about that. They go to school to upkeep on a stock level vehicle.

      @AutoLust  Рік тому

      @@mike619 it's for a stock or tuned BMW. The reason I mentioned the tuner is because one or the hundreds of N63/S63 tuners would have noticed that problem before actually tuning the car from the base map. Each and every car ECU/DME has a certain threshold for things like this and trust me it's not a 59° earlier cooling cycle especially in hot climates when a car is used to being driven in a more aggressive manner. BMW ecu's actually collect data from the driver after a certain amount of miles driven to conform to the way the driver likes the car to be driven. These companies like Hamburg-Technic spend hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars in R&D to make sure the parts work correctly as well as needing signed approval from BMW itself to sell "drop in OE style" parts for their cars. The only thing you will get from this thermostat change is more reliability more power and less of your money going into this so-called mechanics pocket from an overheating engine, but again this is from my knowledge of BMWs and my personal experience opinion. I'm not going to talk you into buying anything for your car that's your own decision to make.

      Thanks for supporting the channel. As far as I know, yes it should work because it works for the F90 M5 and it's pretty much the same exact engine.

      @@damians8498 it says my engine isn't supported either but I'm currently running it. All the BMW 4.4 since the original N63 are pretty much the exact same engine, just with small detail updates throughout the years. The only way to be sure is to find your stock thermostat in compared with the upgraded one 10 times out of 10. If they look exactly the same and the mounting tabs are in the same location, it will fit as they do for mostly all of BMW V8 since the original N63 engine

      I'm scheduled to get the thermostat put in tmrw on the 19 m850. I've been warned it could cause confusion with the ecu, and cause a rich mixture but that doesn't make a lot of sense to me but I'm an amateur.
      Did you find that your gas mileage got worse, rough idle or some other indication of a rich mixture?

    Can those of us who have the inline 6 cylinder(N52 E90 3.0L) use this same concept, and are there similar parts? I've always thought my engine runs a little warm(205° to 215°), but I've heard many times these engines are supposed to run in that range.

    • @AutoLust
      @AutoLust  2 роки тому +1

      There isn't a thermostat swap for the inline 6 engines because the coolant system is almost 100% computer control so you have to tune the car with bm3 or mhd and turn on super cooling mode.

    Wouldn’t it freeze in the winter?

    • @AutoLust
      @AutoLust  2 роки тому +1

      This mod is for hotter climate areas and if you have a winter temperature season in your area this mod is easily reversed when doing a before or during winter oil change and can be redone in the spring and summer it only takes a couple of seconds during the oil change. The lower degree thermostat can be run all year.

      And I thought the coolant system was a sealed system therefore no water evaporating even with 100% distilled water or with water wetter mix

    No shit. On my 335i f30 it had sport + which always drops temps like 20-30i believe but I didn’t know that.
