Hey boss I how u you doing so I was driving my 328 i on eco pro mode and drivetrain came up on my screen but no check engine then I parked up turned of car back to D drive normal and went away never came back you think I should be worried ??

@@mrchasedabag8957 that just means that the misfire isn't bad but it's going to get bad. Whenever you can turn the car off and turn it back on and it resets that means something is wrong don't let if fool you. If you haven't changed the plugs and the coils in a while definitely do so and that should fix the problem.

You are 100% correct in everything you just said. If one coil is bad, replace all of them. Eldors are the best coils. Dephis next best. Bosch are the worst.

@@wesleyevans8368 I'm a Toyota fan as well, but Toyota is having problems with their turbocharged engine right now and recalled almost every one of them so this comment really didn't age well instantly. Also, many people with BMW's choose the wrong/worst platform and then don't use common sense like changing their oil every 10,000 plus miles and not keeping up with maintenance. Thinking because it's a European luxury car that it will take care of itself. Also, Toyota uses the BMW Z4 chassis and B58 engine in its new Supra which is their most popular car since the Toyota Camry, that can also go towards your comment about Toyota that's not going to age well. To conclude, no matter what car manufacturer you choose to buy a car from, every one of them has stains on their reputation and have had problems throughout the years directly from the factory. It's up to the consumer to use common sense and learn the way that cars work to make them last and extend reliability.
Had my 2014 BMW 328i serviced: Replace Fuel pump & fuel pump module / fuel tank cleanup plus ignition coils replaced / new battery. Driven 500 miles after service now, drivetrain malfunction has not reoccurred.
With my 2013 328i I'm getting no code errors even with DTMF warning and CE light on, my uncle and cousin both BMW Techs looked at it, said High Pressure Fuel Pump possible cause, timing chain looked good, thankfully the SULEV warranty can cover that, just need to find a stealership that would do it
How much did they charge you? They’re telling me 2300 for the set
the F30 series is a total POS! It failed many times more i finally got tired it would not turn on anymore and sold it as is in exchange for a 13 Civic SI. If you fix it sell it ASAP bruh. Used to be BMWs would run even with check engine error codes. Now they make the car shut down due to almost any failure? total crap. @@TakisWRLD

I got cyl 7 and 8 misfire. Never thought to swap the coil and check again. Good advice man. Mighta just saved me 8 plugs and a couple grand brotha

It’s -10 degrees out in Indiana and I got this message… had it warm up a bit and tried to start again and it works fine. Haven’t had issue again.
If its a n20 engine , the most common thing is the waste gate actuator , I recommend getting an obd to read the error
You get lifetime warranty on fluids as well. I have a 13 M5 and I use redline 5w50. Use the oil and buy new oil send back old oil and they refund you for the oil you bought. They just don’t warrant additives.

I was dealing w the drivetrain malfunction for almost a year. Replaced fuel pump which was needed w or w out the drivetrain malfunction.. also the rear wheel speed sensor which finally showed a code to replace (already cleaned it before replacing) and it’s been a few weeks and so far no drivetrain malfunction.

@@TheeJackieBanks I will buy the parts from FCP Euro to get the lifetime warranty, but it depends on your engine whether you have a straight six or a 4 cylinder. Usually tune-ups aren't very expensive if you buy your own parts and they're very easy to do. I don't know what someone would charge around your area but my mechanic charges about $150 if I bring my own parts.
Perfect timing the gasket just broke on my high pressure fuel pump and was getting same malfunction that things cost almost a grand from bmw.
Man I'm sorry to hear that. At least it wasn't the ECU or a fuel injector. The purple M6 on my channel had to get a injector replaced and coded and it was $2,700 parts and labor from the dealer.
Drivetrain error can appear for multiple things. I would say 95% you say is a bit overestimated. From my research and struggles with the car it could be as well:
Fuel pump
Whole air mass system (MAF + pressure tubes, whole air supply system)
EGR
and many many more.
Drivetrain malfunction can come from a multitude of things this is true, but more than most of the time (outside of your own personal vehicle that you're having problems with) it will be one of the things I mentioned. Thank you for your engagement on the channel.

I've 2011 535i xdrive, got drivetrain malfunction when driving, diagnosed the car , problem was low pressure fuel pump.
@@oybekrakhimov936 This video was made for the "most common" DTM problems. Meaning 90% of the time when you get a DTM message "not" a special one off case with a personal BMW. I am sure your fuel pump caused a DTM, But a pump DTM is about 1 in 500 or more (500 people will have coil/plug problem before 1 has pump problem) when it comes to DTM plugs and coils will always be king of BMW DTM. Question, my BMW just started getting this malfunction msg after an oil change, msg goes away but if I go above 40mph it pops up again, no shake, no leaks, no error codes at all, not sure what it could be triggering.? You think its my spark plugs or coils.?
This could be a timing chain issue as well if you own a bmw 328i
far from 95% coil packs or spark plugs. i would say turbo wastegate alone is more frequent

Bad coils will cause check engine light on, but in my case I get drive train malfunction only going 60 miles an hour and no check engine light
Hey buddy, FCP euro actually does have lifetime warranty on wear and tear items like brake pads and engine oil’s. It sounds too good to be true, but it’s real. You just have to rebottle your old oil into the bottles you bought them with, and send it back to them and you get refunded.

My f15x5 had this happen. Turned out to be intake hose had blown off. Put it back and tightened clap. Voila, problem gone. Tip, always check the simple stuff first.
I have a 2015 550i Xdrive. Just changed all the coils and plugs. Was running perfect. Ran over a rough area on a road and ever since ita like thw trans is kicking sometimes? Wdyt? Could a coil have came lose when I slammed over the bad part of a road? What else would cause this? I have no check engine light on either.
Did your code pop up as misfire too or just malfuction? I had a bmw tech come out and run a diagnostics and tells me it's 2 problems. Need a new timing solenoid and camshaft position sensor. I didn't have a misfire code.

I have a 2012 320d sport auto only bought the car not even a month ago kept getting the drive train message on the dash every time I put the foot down, I plugged in the scanner and got the code P0087 (Fuel rail/system pressure to low bank 1, do you know what this could be? , car seems to run fine when I’m driving easy but the minute I goto put the foot down and let the car go the message pops up everytime and is really getting annoying now I have replaced the fuel filter and hasn’t done a thing any ideas?
I have the same problem, did you figured this out? I've changed rail pressure sensor, error still occurs but only in random situations when I accelerate. Somethimes after 100km somethimes after 50km. I dont understand why it does that.
My 2013 335xi just threw this code this morning and is in limp mode. It has 140k miles on it

Same here my 328i F30 runs good, but when I put it into sport mode and push it, that sign come on, I’m going to swap out the spark plugs and ignition coils

My car started going slow and it seems as if it is not getting and the drivetrain malfunction is on? I was really scared until I watched this video. I am not sure if this is the problem but it eased my mind. My mind went to transmission and other things.

@@AutoLust I have not went to the shop as of yet, but someone stopped by yesterday and said that it might be the cam shaft, what are your thoughts? It will not start at all now. I let it sit for two days.
@@ceceliaviel3738 I don't think it's the camshafts at all maybe he meant the camshaft sensor, but if it won't start at all now I don't think it's the plugs or coils either it could very well be a sensor.

I run over a rock and hit the bottom of the car and it turn off and it wont start i dont know what could’ve happen under the car that is giving me the malfunction and it wont start. Any suggestions what could be?
Knocked a coil or more than 1 loose? Check to ensure they are all the way in and secure
Fcp actually does warranty oil and fluids.
I’ve had This happen when I have no gas and I step on the gas too hard like an idiot I wasn’t paying attention man I know it’s not good for the fuel pump

My 2013 435i develops misfire under hard acceleration then throws drivetrain malfunction code
So initial code I got was
118001 mixture too lean
After drivetrain malfunction comes up codes are as follows
14001 combustion misfires several cylinders fuel injection switched off
140010 combustion misfires several cylinders detected
140301 combustion misfires cylinder 3 fuel injection is switched off
140301 combustion misfires cylinder 3 detected
This is why I didn’t want another BMW
This is my 4th and LAST! BMW charge $230 or more for diagnostic test although the error message is drivertrain malfunction SMH

So a dealer mechanic is not truth telling if they say it’s the wastegate and the turbo car X3 only done 28,000 miles and not thrashed at all. Cared for all services. Wastegate is not a drivetrain issue is it. So why they tell lies possibly sure seems like it. Talking $5500 plus to fix. When Likely lies
What’s your take on this ?? No way a drivetrain message can be wastegate ? There’s no performance issues or rattle and always starts. The message of drivetrain come up once and dealer bmw showed DSC Warning Light Is On. Vehicle diagnosis - carrying out the ABL
What’s abl Active Blind Spot Detection? The car only has front and back radar and over head camera view and no side mirrors vehicle detection

Thanks for supporting the channel fam. Getting a tune on your car will expose any weak link that the car had prior. If you haven't done a tune-up in a while I would look towards that first. Spark plugs then coils, because a tune wears on the ignition items twice as fast.
DME cost less than $200 used and pay a shop $400 to install and code.
Worst case scenario you ain’t spending more than $700. If you stay away from BMW dealer then you pay like $5k-6k

I have a stock 4 door 2013 328i. My drivetrain malfunction comes on if I floor the gas hard. It won't happen during but after the trip. If I kill the engine and start it right back up I'll get the message. I can drive at speed limit for DAYS & accelerate reasonably fast (highway/freeway). I won't get the message if I let the car "cool down" with engine off for 5 minutes after completing a trip that involved me flooring it. Either way the drivetrain malfunction has always cleared itself after 5 minutes of the engine being off. Like I said i can drive like a normal person on the road, and I won't ever get the message
That's a simple sign of bad coils or plugs. I had the same problem with my X5 as well and it would throw a DTM code whenever I will get heavy on the gas but when I drive normally the car will be fine I switched out the calls and the plugs and never had the problem again. You should start there especially if they've never been changed since you got the car then 9 times out of 10 those are the original coils and plugs in the engine and our past due time for change

I have a 2014 750i xdrive also and got this yesterday. It went away on restart and traveling home it shut off. Now it won't restart. Just a single click. Could that cause this?
On my car (BMW Hybrid..."I" series) pops up this error + Brake retrieval (RBS) Error...but once I start the car again they disappear!!!

Hey man...Shout out to you and your channel!!! I've been watching your videos from quite a while now and for me being first time owner of a BMW it has been very helpful. Now comes the moment to go back to this video, cuase my 2015 X5 50i, has experienced the same as explained with the Drivetrain Malcfunction. Sad for me I'm in the other 5%. After changing Sparks and Coils it turn out that it has a bad injector. The issue now is that every coil is glued to the sparks and have been stugguling to lose them up,...do you have any tips on that? Or do you have a reliable shop that could have it done? I'm in the Orlando area...
Thank you for being a loyal subscriber! I truly appreciate it 💯 you should use a little bit of dielectric grease when installing the coils but make sure you only use a little bit around the ceramic part of the spark plug so they slip on and slip off easy, but since they're already stuck try driving the car around until it heats up for the rubber to soften and then try pulling them off while it's still hot just be careful. I would recommend my mechanic since you're not far but he has covid. PSI Orlando and Euro charge Orlando are great shops that are very highly knowledgeable. They both do the same quality work just go with the one with the cheapest price. If you need any more help don't hesitate to DM me on Instagram. @@belgy8121 lifetime warranty 🎉. They should pop right off once they heat up and try to use a socket extension to go between the hole in the coil clip instead of using your finger it will be a lot easier and less painful.

I used icarsoft bmm 2 code reader. It's a great low budget code reader that reads true BMW codes

Yes - Changed the Aux battery with a new one from BMW - and thats done the trick (for the timebeing) - need to change the alternator at some point as that error is still showing on my scan and garage scan. Rubbish Cars though in my opinion!

What if cheap gas was put in?? I just drove off the lot and tried to accelerate and then drivetrain malfunction came on. They filled the gas up for me could that be the issue? Just bought it today 5/12/2023
Honestly if you just drove off the lot and it's doing that I would definitely take it back and get it checked out immediately before any type of return window is over because it could be anything, but bad gas could cause a misfire problem to trigger a drivetrain malfunction.
My light popped today and she backfired hard for a second or two, then started missing. 650i
Given the backfire, fuel clearly went through the injector. It just didn’t combust… hopefully a plug or coil 😁
I was coming downhill and had just let off the gas. Usually backfires slightly anyways but it was like a stage 3 catless backfire, toast your cats backfire 😂

make sure all the coils are plugged in and pushed down correctly. Plugs and coils are the "most common" fix for drivetrain malfunction, but it could be other things as well. If any codes pop up put them in this website to see what they mean and help to fix them bmwfault.codes/

2014 x5 35i just got drivetrain malfunction but my engine light is not on so how would I run codes to see what’s wrong.
You need to use real BMW code reading software. Like "Carly" for BMW or ISTA software. Once the car throws a drivetrain malfunction it's a code in the computer even if it's not a light on. The engine light just means that the problem is severe at this moment.

I would take the car for a good run high revs far away from the people who told you that. Try plugs and coils first. It's best to buy some type of real BMW code reader like "Carly" for BMW. That way you can get REAL BMW codes not generic codes. Then you can enter the real codes into this website bmwfault.codes/ Or find a REAL shop with BMW level software or at the least ISTA D or ISTA plus software.

Mine happened after I got work done on it they replaced a part on my car and it came up after when I was driving home….you think they forgot they to put something back together ?
Check to make sure the plug that connects to each coil pack is pushed in and the clip is snapped down correctly if it's loose even a little bit it will/can throw a drivetrain malfunction.

There's no such thing as a dumb question when it comes to a BMW DTM, but you will have to use a scanner to find out which cylinder the misfire is located in then you change the plug and the coil out of that cylinder into two different ones one cylinder has the plug out of the bad one and one cylinder has the coil out of the bad one and see if the misfire follows the coil or the plug whichever one the misfire follows change all of those, but I usually change the cause and plugs at the same time anyways especially if they haven't been changed since you've bought the car

I’m getting this on my bmw 328i. It’s an automatic but I can tell it’s not shifting. The rpm will go too high and sometimes will put itself into neutral. It also jerks here and there. Do you have any ideas what it could be? 😬
The same happened to me, I have an automatic 2011 328i I was in a little ramp parking and I was backing up and then when I put it in D it didn’t shift, If took my foot off the break the car rolled back, I had to turn it off and back on twice for it to go forward, how did you solve it?
i change my alternator and drivetrain malfunction light came up. i check on my obd2 no code . i shut down the engine and restart the engine . the malfunction light is gone . it only pop while drive on the highway or on the stop light
Sounds like the new alternator was bad or not installed correctly.

You have to find the newest index number that fits your car I'm thinking index 12 injectors, but to be sure contact your dealership and ask them what's the newest version of injectors for your car or go to FCPeuro.com put in your car information and search for injectors and they will have the newest version

sounds like the coils or plugs are going bad. when they first start to go bad they will not cause a drivetrain malfunction., but it will buck and skip under power.

That's a very weird fault. I never heard of that one before. Take it to a European independent shop and have them read the code. If you're still able to drive moderately then it shouldn't be a big problem.
