What's haunted me for years was the woman in the hive with the chestburster. If you go by the timeline, it was two weeks until the marines showed up. She was probably the last person to get caught by the aliens.

Just like Newt, she managed to hide and hold out for longer than most, but obviously got caught not long before the arrival of the Sulaco.

Or the first alien took out the communications. Or maybe acid from the first one they killed. Maybe even a facehugger. They could have lost comms trying to get the facehugger of the first test subject. That leaves plenty of time. The first queen would have run off and looked for a place to nest. Maybe nothing else happened for over a week, except a few of the colonists casually searching for it. They couldn't have known how much danger they were in. Ripley only assumes that Newt survived longer than 17 days. The only thing that throws a spanner in the works is her "borderline" malnutrition. But Hell...that could be a few days without food

That scene is one of the most pivotal scenes in the film. It literally sets in motion the entire fight in the hive.
Before she wakes up and is subsequently and summarily flamed to death the troops were "safe".
They would have been at least until they found the Queen's chamber. If she was not also dormant as the other aliens were.
I watched a TV version where right as the woman's chest burst... Apone says "FLAMETHROWER move!.... *cut to commercial*
UGH! one of the most frustrating edits I've ever seen in a film.

Timeline to receive a signal round trip LV426 to Earth and back is a month. Then time to delcare them unresposive
and plan a rescue, cut orders (millitary time takes time) and dispatch a ship. Supposed time the troopers are asleep
is 2-weeks more. Let's split the different and think Newt was alone for 7-8 weeks. Not only for two.

35 years anniversary and the film still looks fresh. How many modern films full of CGI can say that. Certainly not the last Predator film. I think it shows the difference between directors who are paid just to make a film and directors who make a film because it is an absolute passion.

Or rather the discrepancy between how/where Kane found the egg chamber by being lowered all the way down into it, and then how the Jorden's found the egg chamber right next to the fossilized Engineer. Not a big deal for me at all, but a discrepancy. Still really enjoyed the novel.

Always wished they'd make a movie about the events of Hadleys Hope from the moment the parasite was brought into the complex to the sheer panic as the first xeno bursts out and quickly grows to a fierce humanoid nobody has the capability to fight. "The last stand" as they barricade themselves off and only have the use of small fire arms and seismic survey charges, gradually being dragged into ducts overnight. Would be one of the few movies that wouldn't have a happy ending but I'm all for it!!

Or maybe even the first 30 minutes of Aliens showing more of what happened at Hadleys Hope. As we do see the start, but it then cuts away after the event with Newts parents.
They could have filmed it and released it after. Maybe as a short film at least. As my idea would surely screw up the pacing of Aliens.
The pacing of one of my other favorite movies is slightly annoying. 'Terminator 2: Judgement Day'. I seem to lose interest after the prison break and they are driving at night in the car towards Sarah's Mexican friend with the underground weapons storage. That is when I usually stop watching, almost every time I re-watch it.
Where the pacing in Aliens is perfect. I'm going to re-watch Aliens now to see if I'm remembering the pacing correctly. Both directed by James Cameron as well as I'm sure you know.

What some people have talked of is wishing you could play AS Newt.
She's alone. Her brother, and parents are gone. All she has is herself and her knowledge of the colony airducts. Maybe have a tutorual stage where she played
"the game" (hide and seek) inside the air ducts with her friends. The novelization of Aliens mentions this twice. Once when she is being jeered as a"cheater"
by her brother Timmy right before their parents make their fateful journey. This is shown in the deleted scenes of the film. And later in the novel only Newt says
to Ripley "I was best at the game" and Ripley understands she probably meant the air shaft system given where they found her living. She goes on to mutter
about having a good memory and that she could get into places others were too big. It makes her the Marines' Ace in the hole when they're escaping.
When we think about it Newt was not so minor a character in Aliens. She was every bit as important as Hicks, Vasquez or Bishop.
EVEN Newt as a playable character for one level would be interesting.
A DLC pack since her mission would start with death of her parents and end when the Colonial Marines and Ripley arrive.

      @Y2Kr4SHM4N 2 роки тому +8

I always wanted to see an alien Isolation sequel with the hordes of Aliens, but a much more subtle approach to combat.
Something whereby the player character has the potential to fight off a half dozen aliens or so, but the gameplay penalises combat randomly. Ie- hit points required to kill aliens is random. And sometimes a random xeno may take more ammo to kill than the limited supply the player carries.
Aliens that are programmed to use the ducts, and structure of Hadleys Hope to traverse the colony, whilst you try to hide like Newt. And there are a few small groups of surviving colonists, some with an engineer, a doctor, or security specialist in their midst. You have to choose which groups to save, by running quests such as to barricade one group in at the expense of another, or put in place security turrets, or restore the power so they can monitor swarms, and hide accordingly.
The games story should be multi-tiered, with the characters being dependent on player choice. Who lives and who dies. The doctors can provide you medical assistance. The engineers can help remotely guide you to parts of the facility that can be closed off, or hatches that can be forced open, and security can remotely control turrets, help you setup mine traps, guide you to dead comrades with weapons and ammunition, or help give you quests to cobble together the components to build your first flamethrower etc…
Sewers, vents, corridors. It should be all open to the player. An open world, with colony tractors as transport. The facility, the landing field, the atmosphere processor and all its sub levels and engineering facilities shown and not shown in the film.
Alien Isolation plus, in the high octane vein of aliens.

Great video, lots of backstory I didn't know about.
Aliens (1986) is my favorite of the Alien movies, seen it many times.
The Aliens novel is the 2nd scariest novel I've read, 1st is Bram Stokers Dracula.

Without a doubt your videos, AT, have rekindled my interest in the Alien universe.
I grew up in the '80s and '90s on these films, certainly on the first two films, and in part on the third. By the time I was older there was the fourth film and the AVP film and my interest had waned. Now, with my interest somewhat rekindled I bought the extended editions of the first two films, and the book Alien: River of Pain, as all three of these stories mesh so perfectly they are so brilliantly weaved together. Having watched and read them (for the first time in this millennium) I get the feeling that TPTB made a wrong turn in deciding what direction to take for Alien 3. I recall seeing the film in theaters and liking it at the time, but knowing that Newt and Hicks are killed off, off screen, makes me reluctant to continue on and get Alien 3 because I don't like where they took the story. It's alright as a reworked standalone, with some character other than Ripley getting killed off, but as the direct sequel to Aliens it doesn't work for me. Even if it's a little too late, TPTB need to rectify their earlier mistake, and make a proper sequel to Aliens.

You should probably really give a reference to the book “River of pain”because it gives a backstory what happened before and Aliens. There is so much action and you better understand the characters especially Newt

Thats what he is summarizing here. No idea if the Fire and Stone series connects in. Its not really contradicted by the novel but the book doesn't make it reasonably likely either. On the upside it means Aliens in a universe without Prometheus or Covenant which I am totally good with.

Dates have to be off. The date Newt's brother and mother die are the 26th and the Mariens arrive the next day. If the Sulaco would have only taken a few days to get there, they wouldn't need to use hypersleep like they did in the movie. I believe in the directors cut, after the operations center is attacked and newt is the only survivor, the Sulco is show approaching with the text "Three weeks later". Either way, it's interesting to hear a detailed timeline

    • @DavidRox71
      @DavidRox71 Рік тому +8

After the marines are attacked, Hicks also states that they won't be reported overdue for 17 days before help is sent out. Ripley reminds him that Newt survived longer than that with no weapons. It took over a day for Newts family to get to the alien ship and the father had the face hugger attached on June 21st. The rescue team arrived on the 22nd and he was brought back on the 23rd and had the alien burst out later that day. The other team went out to the ship on the 22nd, which means they shouldn't have made it back until the 24th. Yet they are all back and have aliens bursting out of them by the 23rd. The timelines don't make sense. It also would have taken time for the Queen to be laying the eggs and have them develop with grown face-huggers inside, so the aliens wouldn't have grown in number as quickly as they did in this scenario.

Also, don't forget that newt was reported to have "borderline malnutrition...but no permanent damage." So it makes sense that newt was on her own for longer than 24 hours when she was found by the Marines and Ripley.

According to this, It did take roughly a month. Newts family die on June 26th and she escapes, Ripley and the rest arrived JULY 27th.

Either a series or a film should be made regarding the events that unfolded, looking at facial CGI they could use actors to play some of those at Hadley's hope.

I thought I read somewhere that the Marine response took two weeks after the distress signal was sent. In the movie they also stated they lost contact with the colony, so that would take a significant amount of time to send a signal through space and wait for the same amount of time for a response before dictating they have lost contact.

a small discrepancy, in the movie the colony looks like a solid structure but according to this and the image at 1:24 it was built from dismantled cargo ship sections .
