I met Michael Biehn a couple years back at a scifi con. Naturally we asked him about the Alien project and he went off so excitedly about it! And started to tell us the basic premise of it, nothing we didn’t kinda know but he did say it was 20years after the events of Aliens. It was really cool to talk to him about it. He’s obviously a fan of it as much as he is a part of it.
That's awesome that you got to talk to him! God I'd love to see this movie realized. Did he sound like there were still any hopes that it could be made?
I agree! This concept art really gives the franchise so much potential! Id happily accept this as an animated movie for the fans if hopes for a live action movie remain dead. So frustrating that studios ignore great talent.
I actually like Blomkamp's visionary style. Loved District 9, liked Chappie, wasn't overly impressed with Elysium, but it was watchable. Think he'd have been perfect for a direct Aliens sequel!
This was apparently James Cameron's call. Blomkamp said it's his IP, he can decide whatever he wants. (edit: My bad, Ridley Scott, not James Cameron) As for his other stuff, District 9 was fantastic, Elysium was decent, I hated Chappie, didn't even finish it. His horror outing Demonic got dismal reviews, I didn't bother watching it.
@@Ignitionite Actually it was Ridley Scott that killed it. Cameron was onboard to possibly Executive Produce and co-write the screenplay at the point it was put on "temporary hold' at the request of Scott until he had completed his 'Prometheus' trilogy, as he didn't want "concepts to clash". And look what happened with Alien: Covenant.
@@DoomGhost001 Thanks, I got my names mixed around. I've been cursing and badmouthing James Cameron all this time, when I meant to be cursing Ridley Scott.
@@Ignitionite Cursing Cameron seems to be a trend lately, lol. And no worries buddy. I'm a massive fan of the Alienverse and the Xenomorph. Aliens is still my favorite movie of all-time, and Alien is 7th on the list. I've done a lot of research on the Blomkamp project since I first saw all that cool concept art. Now, you can't rely on stuff on the internet as being 100% gospel, but from most accounts it's Ridley to blame for why we never got to see it. Not that I have anything against Scott, love the majority of his movies.
Only thing that art has me say was the acid in aliens never hit his face it was full on hit is armor only thing I can accept is he got some burns from the heat of the acid burning thru his armor

That really wouldn't fit in the universe of the previous films tho. The themes of the first two showed more realistic people, pushed around by powers far larger than themselves, an embellished version of how most of us live.

Or straight up horror movies. I love the ending to The Blair Witch project or Race With The Devil. I don't like Hollywood endings, either. Most of us were surprised that the Titanic still sunk! But it doesn't give you the right to piss all over the greatest characters that have ever been created just to "subvert our expectations". It isn't clever. It's childish. And Aliens 2 is both a war movie/revenge film. You can't let the main star of a revenge film lose everything and not get his revenge. Ripley got hers. But then "Surprise! No she didn't! Everyone dies! See, I'm such a hip screenwriter!" A3 sucked. I tend to ignore it's existence except UA-cam keeps bringing me back in!
I was onboard when you said it would have disregarded Alien 3 and 4. I have never forgiven Alien 3 for killing Hicks and Newt off-screen, and who wants to see a mutant Ripley clone cuddling xenomorphs? Not me. This concept art for Alien 5 looks amazing.
The director's cut of Alien 3, which includes the pre-vis visual effects shots, is a very different film to the studio release. It's very different to the prior films, but that has been the pattern for the first 4 Alien films. Alien is a haunted house movie. Aliens is the perfect action movie. Alien 3 is a prison-cult thriller. Alien: Resurrection is 90s schlock.
I enjoyed the assembly cut very much don’t get me wrong while I love hicks and I at the time seeing in theaters 29 years ago leaving pissed I actually agree with the film and I thought it fit with that film and made ripleys sacrifice at the end so much more meaningful
Of all the unmade movies over the years, this one is hands down the most heartbreaking to me. The concept arts are amazing visuals and they had so many original and new ideas never explored in any of the prior movies. And it would've ignored the shittier Alien movies as noncanon. It would've been a resurrection than Resurrection was. You can tell Neil Blompkamp was really passionate about the project and is a talented filmmaker. His story was so good, it made Sigourney Weaver want to return (after years of her saying she didn't wanna return since Resurrection left a bad taste in her mouth) which would seem impossible to pull off. He even wanted to make a Robocop sequel and it too sounded awesome. Why is Hollywood f*cking over this guy's talent by not producing his ideas!?! F*cking assholes. F*cking idiots!
I have been doing research and I am lead to believe there will still be an alien 5 with a release date of 2024, personally I kinda feel I want it to be true and am hoping the sites I got this information from aren’t just scammer sites, please if anyone else knows anything about alien 5 and if it is true that it will still be produced please let us all know!!
@@PhillysHobbyHouse We are getting a new Alien film from Fede Alvarez called Alien: Romulus. But this has nothing to do with Bloomkamp's proposed Alien 5. There is no Ripley or Hicks. While I was very disappointed we didn't get Bloomkamp's film, I have to say his films have been a disaster since District 9. After Chappie I have serious doubts he could deliver the film we all expected. I think Alvarez is a much more talented director. Hopefully he does the franchise justice.
@@faz1483 true he is way more talented, probably would be a bit weird if they just brought back characters that were killed off in previous films! @Leonidas Poledouris oh I saw that too, I admit I felt a bit sad watching it even for just that minute :( maybe because I've 'immortalized' him in his youth as the stoic Kyle Reese and Hicks.
After seeing that concept art all I can say is: my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined. Looks like it would've been one hell of a ride.
If you judged Prometheus by the concept art alone, you'd have been getting ready for the greatest science fiction movie of all time - perhaps even one of the greatest movies of any kind, of all time... So, maybe don't too depressed on the basis of nice pictures.
@@Robin.Tussin actually this would have a bases for the look and character's , they could also just use the comics for the story line and it would still be love by the community.

This concept art got me so hyped. It feels so authentically 'Aliens' and like it would have been a true sequel to Aliens. Love the idea of an illustrated screenplay or treatment at the very least. It's too good to just let it fade into obscurity.
Ripley wearing an exo-suit armor made of a Xenomorph, fighting a Xenomorph Queen? Why did this have to get cancelled? I would very much like to see this.
See I think thats a little too campy, I am conflicted because I like the premise of this film taking place at a corporate headquarters but I wouldn't want the whole flick to be non-stop action either.
Idiots like Ridley Scott and most likely production studio's greed and need to have to put input into the plot of the movie. This movie would have been epic. The whole concept of Aliens 3 and Resurrection being a dream would have worked, considering Ripley survived 57 years in hyper sleep when she was found by the salvage team in the beginning of Aliens. I'm shocked the production of this Alien project was cancelled, it would have broke box office sales records.
I'm glad that this project was canceled. District 9, Chappie and Elysium are all great films in their own right. Personally I don't want to see his tropes in the Alien franchise.
@@Euclides287 Why not? They did it with the Halloween and Terminator franchises. Personally I'd prefer a movie with Dr Church story as the main plot but I like the look of Blomkamp's idea too.

@@cyryc Many of the Aliens novels, if directed with adherence to the visual style and filmmaking methods of the 1986 movie, would be near to its equal. Look at the comics for Aliens Nightmare Asylum or Aliens Genocide.
It may have just come down to a budget that no company was willing to pay for. The Alien movies made in the last 10 years cost around $100+ million each to make, which means you need at least $400 million in sales to make your money back.

Aliens 3 immediately kills the characters that Aliens spent most of the movie building up. Then introduced a bunch of people I never learned to care about.

If they were planning on doing a swarm of facehuggers like you suggested in this film, then they must have definitely reused that concept in the Alien: Romulus
There was so much buzz around this some years ago and it was so exciting, it's such a damn shame that things seem to have fallen through. Personally I think Blomkamp was just being tactful. "I don't want to undo Alien 3 and Resurrection per se...but I just want the movie to be the continuation of the first two." is basically politeness code in my mind for "Look, if you like those films...they're still there, but I want to make the followup to Aliens that I always wanted to see." It's space, so its easy to just handwave 3 and Resurrection as an alternate universe...but in this new branch of the timeline, something went different that changed the course of history. I don't know what they would have gone with, but all of it was so exciting to even speculate about so it's just so saddening that it didn't happen. In this day and age I feel like a lot of projects that were thought dead are getting second winds thanks to the new generation of film distributors so who knows...maybe there's still hope, but Weaver and Biehn aren't getting any younger... As for the art and what it suggests, I definitely get the impression that Ripley and Hicks together with a mercenary group were going to bomb Weyland Yutani's headquarters. I like to think that Ripley and Hicks were forced to live on the outskirts of society after Aliens, with Hicks probably becoming a mercenary and possibly Ripley in tow as a freelancer, forming a merc company of their own. It is interesting to think that maybe some of the members also had run ins with "bugs" and have their own hang ups with Weyland Yutani, which is how they maybe found out about the company getting its hands on another derelict ship. This is pure conjecture too, but I'm willing to bet the mission's considered a one way trip...maybe Ripley had a few good years of relative peace raising Newt for a time, but the two went their separate ways and all thats left for Ripley is revenge. But that mission of revenge probably becomes one last mission to save the world before the new Xenomorph or facehugger variants escape WT's headquarters. I think the most intriguing thing about this are not only the new mutations of the alien, but the potential equipment the company made out of their research of them. MAybe there could even be a small blurb about the ultimate goal of the alien hybrid tech like the exo-suit or the guns to be attempting to reverse engineer the technology of the Engineers themselves, connecting back to the Prometheus lore (but in a very light way, nothing too deep. I wouldn't want to bring even those movies up too much in this, just the Engineers.). As cool as Ripley facing off against a queen in an alien exo-suit is too, I do agree that it treads a bit too close to rehashing the Aliens conclusion so I'd hope there were some sort of additional twist to it. I can't even imagine what that could be. Though if you look at the picture with all the eggs in it, it looks like there's someone right in the middle of them and at least to me, it kind of looks like a child either drawing or playing around with some sort of console. Maybe there's something more to that.
This is exactly what I've been hoping for or thinking about for ever! I think of Alien and Aliens as one complete film. Till this day, there is Nothing that can rival it! Alien 3 was a real let down! This project "Alien 5" or it should be "The Real Alien 3!", should absolutely be made! Who the hell decides these things?? If you were to actually talk to the real fans (hundreds of millions) you'd make the project happen and spare no expense! Bring back Ridley's psychological, nightmarish torment with Cameron's vision and insane real props (No CGI) Then use all of it to finally make a film that the fans deserve.
Of all the movies to not get made, this one is the most heartbreaking for me. Seeing Michael Biehn in battle armor on the Mandolorian recently made it all the more sad. I really think this film would have been amazing; the film executives are so clueless.
You really have to feel for Niell Blomkamp. He seems like a really creative and passionate guy, but he constantly gets screwed over by Hollywood. He should team up with Guillermo Del Toro to form their own company outside of Hollywood, since they both have a long history of mistreatment by the studios.
I love how it's becoming increasingly clear that pretty much everyone in Hollywood except the studio execs who were in charge all regard Alien 3 as a mistake...apparently even David Fincher and Sigourney Weaver disagreed with major elements of that film's story, and yes, killing Newt and Hicks offscreen is still unforgiveable.
alien 3 is great in my book. i know there were production issues, but that's for the nerds to sort out. there were great characters and the intensity of being trapped in a maze with a beast was incredible
While yes I believe that the studio interfered in what David fincher wanted to do, he meant to kill of Hicks and Newt, he did. Alot of filmmakers and actors love to "disown " the movies they directed/starred in when they realise everyone disliked the movie.
Alien 3 was amazing for me. Hicks was already injured in 2 so I doubt he will survive but Newt there is a possibility for her. About plothole, I think the weapons from aliens 2 gone missing
@@UberNoodle the problem with Alien 3 is that the story not only sucked, but it also basically retconned the ending of Aliens so that only Ripley survived. In Alien 3, Ripley has no reason to not just give up anymore. In Alien, she was fighting to get back home to her daughter. In Aliens, she wanted to get revenge/make sure no one else suffered like she had. She went back knowing she would probably die, but by that point she didn't care. Newt was what gave her a reason to want to live. In Alien 3, Ripley has no goal/motivation anymore. She has once again lost everything that she cares about. She comes off as just being tired of life and it makes no sense why she cares anymore. Then we get to the end and, lo and behold, she's given the opportunity to live. This is the climax of the film, a decision that should at least seem like a difficult one, but it comes off as comedic because there is zero appeal to not killing herself at this point. She has nothing left to lose and nothing to gain from life except the idea of more nightmares. Then we have to ask ourselves, what did Ripley achieve for all of her efforts over 3 full movies? Arguably the most badass female protagonists ever written? She didn't achieve anything. The Alien won because it completely broke Ripley. It robbed her of absolutely everything all the way down to her last reason to live and to her suicide.
Scott and his notorious ego couldn’t handle the fact that this rendition was garnering more attention and interest that his underperforming Prometheus and subsequent covenant. Considering the damage those two films did to the franchise and Disney’s continued lack of interest in awakening it’s doubtful any alien pre or sequels will ever be produced. Such a lost opportunity for all of us .
Damage was already done with alien resurrection and the avp movies plus I doubt he got it canceled although I do agree with the ego thing but also I want to say knowing what i know about the fox and the meddling they have done since the alien 3 and every predator since predator 2 and green light Prometheus and covenant script the studio deserves most of the blame they hold all the cards

@@ZXSPEX ...Is your comment some of that "toxic" stuff I've been hearing about the past few years? With that many 💩 emojis I'm concerned that your already heading towards severe sepsis. Movies today are what plays and the opera shows used to be over a hundred years ago. Traditionally and historically, it's not unheard of for there to be multiple takes, renditions, or even revivals (although that last one is more of a book thing) of a story. Even history can show an example of this; compare what stories you'd get if you based things off of what Texas teaches about its founding conflict versus how Mexico teaches the other side of the story but also goes further back to tell more about the preceeding minor conflicts... But we're just talking about fiction. I could follow a time honored tradition in discussion and debate by reducing your argument to a contextless core and then extending it's logic in a natural progression: we shouldn't make any fictional movies anymore if they have humans from earth that canonically use a real-world language because they're too derivative and based on a writer deviating from or predicting the trajectory of the history of something preexisting (the real world) Or is part of it that as a fan, your concerns of poor modern film quality are potentially being compounded by not wanting to have to add disjointed or contrived plots to your knowledge of the series in order to stay current and informed for talking about the series with others?
This was a great video and a great breakdown of the possible plot of the Blomkamp film. I was so excited in 15 when I saw the concept art and read that this was a direct sequel to ALIENS. This art is really intriguing and it is a shame this project never came to fruition. I was very excited for it. I thought it was a great way to remove the bad taste from Alien cubed and Resurrection. I love Blomkamp’s work and thought he had a good vision for this film. That possible exoskeleton suit for Ripley really looks great. Oh, the possibilities of another interesting encounter between Ripley and another queen. It would have been nice as well to think that Carrie may come out of retirement and possibly appear in the movie or even a cameo scene.
I still keep hoping and praying that they will realize this project, and overwrite Alien 3 and 4 with it. I desperately want Hicks back, and have the Ripley-Hicks duo back to being absolute badasses. I think both Michael Biehn and Sigourney Weaver are down to do it, and we fans sure as hell are as well!
@@rickysmyth Ha, right on. That would make sense to an individual, if they cared about that though. I used to be a Prescriptivist when it comes to maintaining continuity with original cannon, but after witnessing multiple franchises go on to develop sequels (and sequels to prequels too if you catch my drift) and then being left with nothing but a profound sense of disappointment after see them all, I say let the ideas that come with ret-conning story lines have their have their chance! Most folks can agree that Hollywood has arguably run out of original ideas through all the various ways other franchises have been rebooted, what difference would it make to have an existing one like Aliens have a different arc to it? If I remember correctly, this version of Aliens where Hicks and Newt survive is the original version that was written in the comics before the screenplay for “Alien 3” ever got written in the first place, so try to keep that in mind as context. Although, if none of this changes your mind at all, that’s still okay.
Dark Horse adapted William Gibson’s Alien 3 screenplay and there’s a audible scripted podcast based on it with Michael Biehn and Lance Henrickson as Hicks and Bishop.
The long and short of it is that Michael Biehn went on to say he thought he basically priced himself out of major film roles as one of the leads for a while. I don't recall seeing him in too much after Aliens aside from The Abyss (in which his Navy SEAL character went crazy due to pressure and got crushed in a sinking mini sub), Tombstone (as Johnny Ringo, who didn't fare well against Val Kilmer's Doc Holliday), The Rock (where his Navy SEAL character died fairly early), The Art of War (where he was a bad guy and was absent for most of the film until being killed fighting Wesley Snipes), and that Omega Code sequel (in which his Vice President / Messiah character apparently died, too). It's almost like Hicks dying off-screen made him into the American version of Sean Bean. About the only film from that span I can think of where he wasn't killed off was 1990's Navy SEALs. Funny how he played a SEAL no less than 3 times, though. And he did have a fatality prior to Aliens, also - as Kyle Reese in The Terminator.

The original aliens comics from 1989 followed the movie, newt was grown up in an asylum, and hicks was all washed up on earth. They are a good read, then alien 3 made it reduntant.
@@glen366 Those comics later got remade into a set of novels which I read when I was in high school. They changed the names on Newt and Hicks because of Alien 3 but otherwise they were non-graphic novels of the comics. And yes, they are a good read.

I strongly oppose the idea of relegating things from canon, but it would be interesting to see how this film would play into it, if it genuinely would create a new canon or just provide some workaround, and I would be interested to see the final product. Would be cool to see Ripley, Hicks, Newt, and Bishop again if anything. They are a strange but cool little family of sorts.
So you're not really strongly oppose the idea of relegating things from canon. Only idiots sacralize canon. Good stories is what is important. If the "canon" is in the way of a good story, just create another timeline. That's what Alien: Isolation did, or the new Halloween movies. Or tons of Godzilla films that only keep the original movie as base and ignore all the others. No big deal.
@@CallOfEuropeanSpirit Yes, I am indeed strongly opposed to the idea of relegating things from canon, as I said in my original comment. Only idiots insult people for their preferences in fiction. Also, Alien: Isolation didn't "start a new timeline", where did you get that idea from? It takes place in the exact same canon as all twelve Alien/Predator films. Retconning an established beloved ongoing universe as if it never happened and disrupting the unity of the Xenoverse as a larger franchise for no good reason is my problem. If it's no big deal to you then good for you. Good stories are important, but so are consistent universes that we can follow along with without mixing it with a bunch of conflicting and confusing canon-breakers.

I reckon it’s a nod to the old Aliens Kenner toy line. There was a bloke called “A.T.A.X Disguise” who had a xeno outfit similar to what Ripley is wearing in this…

It hurts my chest like having a chestburster inside that this project was cancelled, and personally I think it could be so easy to for example made a bridge between Aliens and Resurrection with this, leaving 3 as a vivid dream for example that Ripley had while in the sleeping pod, and then at the end of this one for example, weyland could just grab a DNA sample of her when she infiltrated the building, to start the cloning process (Resurrection), since they already know her long background story with the company, and thus can be the perfect subject to create a "new weapon" as they wanted with enhanced xenomorph attributes. This movie project for Alien 5 would have been such great film. The story line sounds amazing and I like the fact the director would tie in the events and creatures from Prometheus which would have been amazing. The story board art is gorgeous. I can already see and feel the tone for it. It could’ve tied all the stories all together.
Bloomkamp’s film would have at least answered alien/aliens fans questions about the origin of the derelict ship on lv426. Two prequel films later, Ridley still hasn’t answered that question and led viewers down the AI and engineer rabbit hole.
I would love to see this movie. Probably more than I’d want to see any other. But I’ve been down this road before with the Dredd sequel that we all wanted and never got. Make the movie and I’ll see it/buy it. Make the comic and I’ll buy that too. Audio book, ok not ideal but I’ll buy that too. I won’t hold my breath on any of it.
I'm sure at this point the actual film will never get made - the window has truly passed. But I hope at some point we at least get a full look at the treatment and maybe even an audio drama or comic book gets put together at some point. I'd really, really like to know what Neil had in mind.
It's def. a even more action heavy looking Alien movie , which would probably garner some backlash from certain groups of fans who souly want the Alien IP to focus on horror. Hell, I'd probably feel like this might've leaned into the action spectacle too much despite the 2nd movie being my personal favorite but the 2nd movie managed to still achieve a great horror atmosphere while having a fair bit of action, it managed to hit the nail on the head of blending action shoot outs with a horror setting. Still, I would've liked to see this happen. Neil doesn't have a perfect track record, some stuff he has done was great, other stuff not so much but what I'm certain of is that He'd probably do a better job than modern day Ridley Scott and this would've had a solid chance of being at least better than the prequels, Prometheus and Alien Covenant plus surpass the rather lacking sequels we got after Aliens.
Though I don't actually dislike Alien 3 and resurrection, it'd be a breath of fresh air to see something like his Alien 5 or a treatment of the Earth Wars comic's. Unfortunately because of the canon and the confusion it could create I doubt we'll ever see anything like that.
I was always obsessed with this project, like the resurrection of Conan crown of ice, and would kill to see this realized. Scott Ridley’s Prometheus put this on the side burner. I pray to God they reconsider. They made a new Bladerunner, why not this.
If they would have don’t this movie 20 years ago I would love it but while sigorney isn’t old and just seeing ripley and hicks in their 60 plus years I mean come on now it just wouldn’t be believable that 2 seniors are killing things that are fucking fast ass hell I mean look in aliens how quickly that alien got to ripley and hicks In that elevator
The Alien movies are my favourite movies, no others can compete. But I think Neil would have brought something human into this that we haven't seen a lot of before, on a few different scales, personal and more grand ones. There is so much to explore in the Alien universe and he would have done it brilliantly. He did such an amazing job on district 9 (Chappie too, if you read into it a bit while watching) I loved the moments between Ripley and Newt and Ripley and Call, I think Neil would have given us several relationships and moments like that and maybe something even more exceptional. I was so sad to see this not happening. It would have been perfect..
I'd love to see more Alien films. Niell is a great and really creative director. His Alien 5 would be great but I hate the idea of ignoring Alien 3 & Resurrection. I do love them too. Anyway, I still hope we will see Alien 5, Ridley's Alien Awakening, Alien Isolation films in the future
Alien:Resurrection is THE worst Offender, its ONLY Positive is getting to see Sigourney again, yet its BIGGEST Negative is Ripleys ridiculous Rebirth & Role in the proceedings. Jeunet-Stick to your Dark Humour French Stylings, ... Keep your hands Off our American Sci-Fi Horror Classic-Continuum Sequels.
I wished this would see the light of day. I blame the studio for allowing Scott to interfere even though he created this franchise. I would love to see an animated film of the original alien 3 script and maybe follow ups to it.
@@ThatSockmonkey, well you know, just because it's better than nothing. Just so we can can get a glimpse of what this movie was meant to be. I actually thought 'Alien: Into Charybdis' was pretty good.
this is everything we wanted in a sequel to aliens. looks perfect. its infuriating that this got shelved indefinitely, while Romulus got green lit in its place. I can't judge that film yet, but I have a hard time believing ditching this script for Romulus is justified.
They didn’t ditch this for Romulus. They ditched this for Covenant. This film was dead and buried years before Romulus was even a twinkle in Fede Alverez’s eyes. By the time Romulus was being talked about, Sigourney had given up and moved on from Alien Awakening. However Romulus shapes up, you can’t blame it for the loss of this film.
He absolutely is. Alien Covenant was a waste of an Alien film. I respect Scott for all the great movies he’s made, but he clearly doesn’t know how to make a good Alien film anymore. It’s ironic, because usually it’s studio interference that tanks franchises, but here the original creator was responsible.
Scott is out of touch. This film also should not have been made. Wheeling out two actors in their 60s to reprise action roles from 35 years ago is stupid, and thr Alien franchise doesn't need its own Terminator: Dark Fate.
I would've loved to see this. This or a movie version of Alien Isolation. I thought the story of Ripley's daughter trying to find out what happened to her mother would suit well with after the 2nd movie...
As odd as it sounds, I’d love to see an Alien film with the idea based on the story/warning of releasing a horde of snakes to take care of a rabbit infestation. The idea of a new breed of creature who’s primary prey are the xenomorphs themselves. The conflict being that in developing a “solution” to the out of control xenomorphs results in something far worse.
I like to think that the Xenomorphs themselves started off as a "solution" to another alien conflict that eventually spiralled put of the creators' control.
Riffing on the idea, with how smart the Aliens are you could have the original aliens do something really clever and turn the hunters into the hunted - and now they're even deadlier and smarter than they ever were. Oops.
What I did not like about some of the later sequels is the heavy use of CGI over practical effects in regards to the Alien Mother or Alien "soldiers". There was a little mix of both in Alien Resurrections, but I'd prefer if they stuck 100% with practical effects.
I remembered a news saying that Ridley Scott forced Fox to cancel this movie because his movie Covenant..and now with the new series for Hulu I think will never happens
That's what pisses me off. He took this movie off the table so he could make two unnecessary and unmemorable prequels that added nothing of value to the mythos.
If Neil made a profitable movie in the next few years and if the series also made money, maybe Disney would consider his Alien 5? Because let's face it, it all comes down to money.
Last time I checked what power does Scott have at fox not a lick his is just a director he didn’t right any alien film he was director he shot the film studio in control every other step of the way now I do think he told them to postpone it as he was scheduled to be a producer if fan really want to be mad at someone it either need to be our fan base it’s self for being to split on what direction they want see or the studio as they own all the cards
I’d still like to see it be adapted into an audio book in the vein of Gibson’s Alien 3 script, as much as I’d like to see Weaver play Ripley on screen one final time, she’s currently 71 going on 72 (at the time of this comment).
Man, that story would have godlike! Blomkamp is such a talented storyteller, but this is even above what i would expect of him. What a shame that it was cancelled.
Francise was already ruined when they had whedon write resurrection and the avp movies the studio messed up with its meddling on 3 so while I say that Scott does deserve a lot blame for this film’s postponement and when covenant didn’t do Prometheus money alien 5 was out right cancelled covenant did half of what Prometheus did
Its to late now to do a direct sequel to Aliens. James Cameron's masterpiece was made 36 years ago, and since Michael Biehn is now 65 and Sigourney Weaver 72 they would have a very hard time coming up with a plausible reason for the time gap. I think this boat has sailed, sadly.
Yep fully agree. The only other way was to copy the start of aliens again, they drift right past the core network and have another unusually long hyper sleep. That would explain the ageing but i honestly agree these actors although ill forever love their roles as hicks and ripley are too old now at this stage. The only one id trust to do it is James cameron.
John but aliens was set 57 years after alien so there is no ageing in hyper sleep but if they just did a huge time jump ripley since in aliens was really 69 but with being in hyper sleep she still looked 20s now ripley would look old but would also be like 100 years old
The time gap could be explained by them arriving to Earth after the events of Aliens thinking they've wiped the xenomorph species out and then finding out 35 years later that the Wayland Yutani corporation has been secretly breeding xenomorphs as a weapon. Of course being the only ones on Earth who understand the danger of the situation it's morally incumbent upon them to act. I think the bigger problem is having a 72-year-old Sigourney Weaver battling aliens... I'm thinking about Linda Hamilton in dark fate.
I don't have a problem with Alien 3. It was a decent film. Alien Resurrection was a complete waste. Riddley Scott was on the right track with Prometheous but it had its faults. They show a Alien Decon in the cave art but after Covenant was released it was highly implied that the "Alien" species was made by David. That really messed up the whole movie. Which ended Ridley Scott Prequels. 🙄 I really didn't care for Alien vs Predator or Alien vs Predator Requiem. Nor did I care for any of the Predator movies after Predator 2
David created a strain of xenomorphs called protomorphs but if you remember in Prometheus they mention the derelict and lv426 also if you also look back at orginal they said that ship had been there for ever so I don’t think so but that’s my thinking on it
And yes resurrection was a waste they had a good cast it was beautifully shot but that story and dialogue that whedon wrote was poop I mean who thought comedy in an alien movie would go together
I literally only just finished watching Alien 1-4 for the first time, but already knowing the spoiler about Hicks and Newt dying so I have to agree about Alien 3. Despite the disappointment of those two characters dying it’s a good film for what it is. And yeah Resurrection was… I don’t know how to put it exactly but it felt almost like a fever dream to me 😅 super weird and out of place compared to the other films…
Alien³ was great and it could have been even better and more unique if it was filmed at a better 'time' or under better 'circumstances'.. It was plagued with difficulty.. And I guess that was a sign of the times it was filmed in.. All in all it's story is among 1 of 3 movies, that GENUINELY STAND UP to the legacy.. We know which one's those are!
Imagine it's the end of Alien Resurrection and bam. Ripley wakes up and everything after Aliens was just a nightmare (Alien 3, Resurrection). And there you have the beginning of Alien 5? Maybe?
Or maybe let's reverse it: the whole film plays out as a direct sequel to Aliens, and then the film ends with Ripley 8 waking up beside Call and realizing that this fanboy-pandering nonsense was just a dream. :P
Scott is an incredible visualist, however he is a terrible writer. The Alien script was from Dan O'Bannon and it was great. The script for Blade Runner was also great. Unfortunately, Scott was the one who came up with the story for the Prometheus films and they suck so bad. Scott's filmography is very uneven. For him to make a good film he needs a really solid script.

11:05 I wonder if the xenomorph exosuit is designed to allow for traversing a hive in relative safety? 🤔 With a Queen being smarter, perhaps she isn't so easily fooled. Or, she suffers no potential rivals. 🧐

Get Peter Chung to have done an animated movie.
Would make a good animation series
I think that a CGI film would probably not offend Ridley Scott's ego and has a greater chance of bein made.
I think a Star Wars visions or Animatrix would work for the Alien franchise.
I don't understand why Blomkamp's stuff just never seems to take off. All of his short, speculative films are pretty awesome.
(edit: My bad, Ridley Scott, not James Cameron)
As for his other stuff, District 9 was fantastic, Elysium was decent, I hated Chappie, didn't even finish it.

Idiots like Ridley Scott and most likely production studio's greed and need to have to put input into the plot of the movie. This movie would have been epic. If they were planning on doing a swarm of facehuggers like you suggested in this film, then they must have definitely reused that concept in the Alien: Romulus
Watching alien as a child I always wanted NEWT to continue the story!

Nah.. it wasn't a bad movie but Alien 3 should not have happened
Fingers crossed that enough attention gets this movie made
Scott and his notorious ego couldn’t handle the fact that this rendition was garnering more attention and interest that his underperforming Prometheus and subsequent covenant.
@Rusty Gears Nintendo? Don't get me wrong, I've loved the series since Super Metroid on the SNES, but I don't know that Nintendo would allow that in any way that would the series justice, despite all the mutilation and horror of the source material. Hell, even the stuff we saw with the X parasites and phazon wasn't nearly half as gruesome as what had to be happening off-screen.
I could follow a time honored tradition in discussion and debate by reducing your argument to a contextless core and then extending it's logic in a natural progression: we shouldn't make any fictional movies anymore if they have humans from earth that canonically use a real-world language because they're too derivative and based on a writer deviating from or predicting the trajectory of the history of something preexisting (the real world)
Or is part of it that as a fan, your concerns of poor modern film quality are potentially being compounded by not wanting to have to add disjointed or contrived plots to your knowledge of the series in order to stay current and informed for talking about the series with others?
@@ZXSPEX lol. If you think intelligent discussion is the same thing as getting triggered then maybe stick to PBS, kid.
Nah loved Alien 3 for the fact Newt and Hicks died more like real life
Nah, the Alien-universe contains a lot of tragedy. To those that want it to be about family and happiness, try another franchise.
Will never get over the cancellation of this movie. I had full trust in Neil Blomkamp to nail a movie in the Alien universe
Seeing the trio back together would have been amazing.
I'd love to see that guy make an Alien movie. His stuff is so good visually
I think hollywood is afraid of him.
Good visuals don't always equal good movies.
Just look at Ridley Scott for a perfect example.
Hell, just look at Blomkamps own limited filmography.

I don’t think we’ll get that till it’s away from fox yes it’s Disney but fox has their own studio heads and fox since 3 will never stop interfering with this francise and now that one 3 was ok resurrection sucked they should have just started with another story after alien 3 ripleys story ended after 3 and having Whedon write the script was dumb really dumb
I wish they would have went ahead and did this! It was an amazing project that could've helped put an end to the need for more of Ripleys legacy. The continuation of the story could've moved onto even more projects and concepts, but they buried this gem in space somewhere. We may never know how epic this could've been. Thank you for sharing your Alien theory. At least we have you to dig deep into this franchise. I do know you have been a saving grace to my addiction to this extraordinary tale.
This definitely looks like something we need more of, if not the original movie then at least a graphic novel.

I hope, HOPE, that at least we get this as a comic.
The problem with that is if the comic gets great exposure then you know there will be call for a movie to be made from it, I for one hold out hope that blomkamps vision makes it onto the big screen!!!

@ProudOfYourRoots Not sure about that. But yeah, Isolation helped fill up that hole.
@ProudOfYourRoots Not sure about "canon isn't always best", although I realize now I might have misread what you tried to say.
Even without the film, I have to say, this art by itself is stunning.
I'd love to see this filmed, even now with everyone in the cast hurtling toward their silver years. But short of that lofty wish, I'd welcome any presentation of the material in any medium. These illustrations are so striking and so accomplished, it would be nice to see them replicated or homaged in a graphic novel version!
Amazing concept art. Some really stunning artistry went into it’s creation. If we never see the film, I’m glad we at least got to see what it might have been.
Loving Blomkamp's work and what he was hoping to do set my soul soaring! And was devastated when it got shut down! I would truly love to see it come together after all!
The Aliens sequel I always wanted. 🙏🏽❤️

Mine was if they would have done gibsons script for 3 and four
This is seems to have been quite heavily influenced by the earth wars storyline and I have to say that I would be really excited to see that make the screen

I've seen the mech suit that looks like the alien queen that she's wearing in other videos claiming that it is Ripley as an alien after a transformation and I knew it was wrong. Here you go proving me right thank you.
I reckon it’s a nod to the old Aliens Kenner toy line. There was a bloke called “A.T.A.X Disguise” who had a xeno outfit similar to what Ripley is wearing in this…

How they made the prequels but not this great looking concept is beyond me!!
Aaanyways, I'd love to see this project alive!

If I win a fortune i would be investing in this big time. That concept art of the alien climbing up the tunnel is terrifying as a frame - as a vfx artist i neeeeeeed to animate that :)
Fantastic options and concepts. So many future opportunities. It’d be such a shame to not see something like this come into the storyline.
The artist is a genius!
This looks like a promising alien movie.
Far better than the Prometheus and covenant disgusting abominations for sure.
those where good movies though... just... dissapointing nonetheless...
not really, Prometheus and Covenant in this format would probably sound promising too. The writing is always trash tho.
oh yeah?

how ridiculous and abominant is that?
I would like to see an Earth War movie... I would absolutely be into it

The Alien movies are my favourite movies, no others can compete.

As above, Alien 5 was cancelled due to Ridley Scott's Covenant, not because of Romulus which came much later.
This should've happened. I'm sorry, but I think Scott is out of touch with this franchise.

This is the Alien everyone asked for but never got.
I really didn't care for Alien vs Predator or Alien vs Predator Requiem.
Nor did I care for any of the Predator movies after Predator 2
David created a strain of xenomorphs called protomorphs but if you remember in Prometheus they mention the derelict and lv426 also if you also look back at orginal they said that ship had been there for ever so I don’t think so but that’s my thinking on it
And yes resurrection was a waste they had a good cast it was beautifully shot but that story and dialogue that whedon wrote was poop I mean who thought comedy in an alien movie would go together
dunno the underwater scene in resurrection alone was better than both prometheus and covenant...
I literally only just finished watching Alien 1-4 for the first time, but already knowing the spoiler about Hicks and Newt dying so I have to agree about Alien 3. Despite the disappointment of those two characters dying it’s a good film for what it is. All in all it's story is among 1 of 3 movies, that GENUINELY STAND UP to the legacy.. We know which one's those are!
Spoiler warning it takes 1:20 to find out this is just a speculation.
This would be an incredible take on the Alien series! I hope it enters into production.
Imagine it's the end of Alien Resurrection and bam. Ripley wakes up and everything after Aliens was just a nightmare (Alien 3, Resurrection). And there you have the beginning of Alien 5? Maybe?
All caused by the queen mothers mental telepathy!!!! Yes
Terrible idea.
@@BlueMarsalis dude im just kidding. I actually love Alien Resurrection.
Or maybe let's reverse it: the whole film plays out as a direct sequel to Aliens, and then the film ends with Ripley 8 waking up beside Call and realizing that this fanboy-pandering nonsense was just a dream. :P
I still can't believe that the man that gave us the masterpiece was the one to cover it with that prometheus-type shit. :
Scott is an incredible visualist, however he is a terrible writer. The Alien script was from Dan O'Bannon and it was great. The script for Blade Runner was also great. Unfortunately, Scott was the one who came up with the story for the Prometheus films and they suck so bad. Scott's filmography is very uneven. For him to make a good film he needs a really solid script.
@@peterschattmann8298 The Martian,Thelma & Louise.
@@ryangettig274 Thelma &Louise; original screenplay: Callie Khouri. The Martian; original novel by Andy Weir adapted by Drew Goddard. So yeah, Scott is not an original thinker and the more he meddled the worse the film gets.
@@peterschattmann8298 I know who wrote the scripts dude-i'm talking about the material. We can go all the way back to Rid'd debut The Duellists-Joseph Conrad-have a better one:)
@@ryangettig274 So we agree. Scott left to his own devices will produce a steaming turd.
i still hope they will make this movie happen. Blomkamp is the perfect match for this project and I have no doubt he would make it into an excellent movie worthy of its predecessors.

I wonder if the xenomorph exosuit is designed to allow for traversing a hive in relative safety?
🤔
With a Queen being smarter, perhaps she isn't so easily fooled. Or, she suffers no potential rivals.
🧐
given the other bio weapons, my guess it is wy attempt at power armor using alien technology
