Just a quick sidenote, if you believe some operators such as Gatwick Trains or First Great Western are missing, they technically aren’t as they are still operating to this day under different names / branding. This is why this video tbf was shorter than I was expecting 😂.

The buffet menu was good, and I liked the refurbished 125's, which were comfortable and quiet.
I prefer to go for a more satire approach to these kinds of videos, so although I do know some companies were decent, I don’t like to highlight it completely 😂

@@nowapproachingyt Not to be that guy or nothing, but it was it's own franchise initially - obviously the smallest of the lot - from October 1996 (known legally as Island Line Limited). It was merged with the South West Trains franchise in February 2007 to form the wider South Western franchise. I think it's cos both franchises had the same parent company (Stagecoach), the Island Line name was retained as a brand and nothing else really changed on the public-facing side of things is why there is some confusion over this.

The former is now under First ownership, whereas the one in the video was the one owned by Stagecoach. And the latter is now owned by the DFT, whereas the SE in the video was the one owned by Govia.

Yeahhhhh you’re thinking about operation sectors pre privatisation. When I do these videos, I mainly focus on post privatisation because that’s where all the juicy drama is (;
I was gonna rebuke the 'identity crisis' bit for ScotRail (National Express), but then I remembered the former Regional Railways 117s & 305s, the ex-Virgin Mk3s/DVTs, the former First North Western/Stansted Express 322s and the mixed bag that was the Caledonian Sleeper, so you were right on the money lol Am also gonna count the SPT liveries here too (Orange/Black, Carmine/Cream and the unique 'Caley Blue' 101), as while SPT operated the heavy rail suburban services in/around Glasgow and Strathclyde during this time and the stock was appropriately liveried, they didn't outright own the stock and thus could be found far beyond the Strathclyde region (SPT 156s to Perth, Dundee, Oban, Fort William, Mallaig, Carlisle & Newcastle, SPT 170s to Edinburgh, Perth, Dundee, Aberdeen & Inverness & SPT 318s to Edinburgh & North Berwick).

Fortunately, my favourite former railways are the LNER, London Brighton & South Coast Railway and Great Eastern Railway, so I get off lightly.
As somebody who used SWT a lot without ever actually getting on a 707, what's the Desiro City Curse?
Every operator that has bought out the 707s currently has dissolved shortly after
SWT: pretty self explanatory if you live in the south

Didn't know I liked train surfing to Hull. Seriously I used to love getting a 185 back home.... Only to have to wait on platform 14 at MAN for a 142,150,156 or if you were very lucky a 158.
For me the 185s were a rarity in the Keolis times, until the first batch of new stopper services that took over northern. Since then, it’s rare for me to use anything but a 158 and 185. Haven’t physically seen a 156 in my area in what seems to be 6 years now 😂
I'm near the Blackpool South line, we get them a bit and some 158's. Just no pacers now. :(

GNER was the best former TOC imo. Good customer service and good punctuality.....others may disagree, but this was my experience of using them.
Btw, Thameslink still exist. They're called Govia Thameslink now. Though everyone still calls them Thameslink!
The Thameslink I mentioned was pre FCC, so had to give it a special mention just because it was the calm before the shitshow that was First Crapital Disconnect.
I'm more of a regional railways kind of guy.

Higher-ups of the company and others said that silverlink was one of the best london based operators. However, the north London line showed that silverlink was far from being the best - overcrowding, outdated infrastructure onboard slow trains.
