It's about skills. If you're a musicians, you have to have chops to play disco. Imagine all the Orchestra's & horn sections that were hired during the era. People got a lot of work and a lot of music was produced. Example, there was a disco version of "Star Wars", then the bass player also played on "I'm Every Woman" by Chaka, which was written by Ashford & Simpson, who wrote "Ain't No Mountain high Enough, which was "soul" from Motown. It's all music. But for the fan, you like what you like.
Brilliant, you see kids this is called music, real music that stands the test of time...We were very lucky to have lived during this special time of music.
MOST of those brothers in this phenomenal band, has passed on now...they had a GREAT comeback in LATE 1979. with Ladies Night. and went into the 80's dominated the record sales. and the charts.
To me, the *funky, jazzy* Kool & The Gang, right here, will always be *the best* era of the band. I do like a lot of the later, more pop-oriented music with J.T. too, but from '69 to '76 or so, this band made so many great albums, with some of the *best funk and jazz* , to ever be put on records by anyone! I have all of those classic albums, and my favorite is probably '74's "Light of Worlds."

That album is so deep, especially the title track, which may be my favorite song from Kool & The Gang. I really wish I could have seen them on the tour for that album, or at least sometime, back in their '70s prime, but I was only born in '73, so I didn't get that chance. I love all of their '70s albums though, including "Live at PJ's," which is one of the best live albums, *ever* , by any group. My *favorite* live album, of all time, though, has to be "Gratitude," by the mighty, mighty Earth, Wind & Fire! 🙂

This was amazing. I grew up listening to them, but with James "JT" Taylor as the lead singer. So sad only Robert "Kool" Bell is the only original band member still alive. I'm so happy to see them inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I hope Kool and JT both are there to accept the award 👍🏾💯.
Amazing how young and talented the bands were back then, rap music and sampling killed this art form to some degree. Nothing will ever compare to a band playing live and singing original material.
And at the same time they brought Rap music in, they started taking music out of the public schools, starting at the elementary school level; sounds like a CONSPIRACY to me, to have things the way they are now. 11-11-24.

Taking the music out of schools left a lot of young people without direction and those who still have a interest for music wanted to be a rapper but they can't play a instrument. Most rappers found it simple to use someone else music and rap to it. Maybe later I'll share my experience at my first rap concert in 1980, yes that's the year lol

I'm from Argentina, the black music has been a source of inspiration for many of the best argentinians musicians. Even, the africans roots are present in the tango (an afro nane) and folklore. I see this Kool and the Gang perfomance because a song of argentinan duo Catriel y Paco remember me a Fresh . Thank You for your musical talent.

There was an unusually deep freedom of expression in the arts that launched in the ‘60’s but dispersed further from about 1969-79. If you listen to all genres created during that period you’ll be there.

Not young people's fault. This speaks to how since the 80s, schools across the US gutted music programs, especially in the inner cities. Bands like this formed and learned music as teenagers in school.
It's a myth this has anything to do with education. Anyone called to music will find their teachers in the previous generation. if you can't find your real teachers you weren't called and didn't look. Only dead music forms obsessed by formalism and technique need to be taught in school.
