Thanks for this. Most old school Prince fans know this, but you do a great job of teaching the future generations about the greatest to ever do it.
Gayle was never a good fit for his band. Lisa fit like a glove because she could hold her own and she just got. She looked like a street-smart chick who was tough enough to hold her own
@@paisleyprincess7996 plus, Chapman reportedly wasn’t cool with the sexual subject matter.
A very talented man with a banging body whose music I still love after all of these years! 💜
Whew!!! You said it!! 😁 This is my 1st time seeing this performance and I keep coming back for more! 🔥🔥💟
@@KittyGrizGriz Same here. I was blown away by his outfit. 😂
Why didn't they let him actually perform this instead of a lip sync? This song sounds as good today as it did way back then. That man had some real balls to perform in thigh highs and a Speedo.
a Siberian tiger print banana hammock 🤪
@@hanskloss1331 lol..as you can tell..not up to speed on my mens fancier underwear..thanks for the clarification.
I was thinking the same thing....I was expecting raw vocals....not the record

I'm assuming this was something Prince would have asked them. I've never seen a midnight special episode overdubbed except for this.
The vibe, the funk, THE OUTFIT🔥🎉🔥🎉🔥🎉🔥🎉miss you forever
First time I ever heard Prince. Exactly this.
You have a lot to learn young grasshopper
This voice and singing style make me think about Bee Gees. But Prince's voice sounds more nature and smooth. Amazing.
I was today years old when I found out that prince was on the midnight special. 👍 This show keeps surprising me.
Need Rick James
I saw this the summer that it aired. I was listening to him since the"For You" album. I was a young teen, and all of my friends were teasing me for listening to "that fa**ot".
I said I'm not interested in his sexuality, I'm vibing on his music.
Three or four years later those same friends were blasting his music, asking me if I'd heard it...
Had me cracking up...
Minneapolis Minnesota needs to GLORIFY PRINCE 🌈🌞
Classic Prince💕 💜 One of my favourite tracks, what's not to love!💜💜
My sister's and I would stay up to watch the Midnight Special every Friday. Talk about screaming and hollering when we saw this particular episode with Prince.😅❤😊
And after all this time at the age of 59..this is still a performance like no other💜💜💜💜💜
Prince is rockin' that BamBam outfit!!❤❤❤❤ Continue to RIHP Your Royal Purpleness!!❤❤
🥺😢 It's great to see, but very sad to know he's really gone and why. Just difficult to be reminded of what we've lost. ❤️🩹✨💖😞🙏
You mean to know hes murdered or the the bs they told you and you swallowed
I know, but I like to remember them happy and doing what they loved to do.💟 I hope you have a nice day. 🤗✌️
I still have this original album/record. The Greatest. I'm still dancing 💃
Total package of talent and charisma
This brings back so many good memories use to get home fast back in the day too watch this great show.
THERE WILL NEVA BE ANOTHER PRINCE 💜💜 THA BEST TO EVAAA DO IT 🕊🕊🕊
*Thank you for the wonderful memories!!! This song was playing in the clubs before it became such a HUGE hit on the radio!!! I still have visions of dancing to this in the late 70's at the club!! It was my favorite song to dance to!! I wish that my body could still move like it did back then!!!* 🤣🤣
Prince…always, always on the very edge of the creative frontiers. As a young artist here he is bridging the gap between the late 70’s soul, funk and R&B and starting to show us glimpses of what his signature sound would sound like heading into the 80s. He was one of a kind, never to be duplicated and we, the world, will always miss him dearly and remember the good times and good vibes he “rained” down upon all of us!✊🏻
Omg he was so mesmerizing! Was he fathered by an angel? Truely gifted by God! Miss him sooo much!
anything from this era is a amazing find.thanks for posting
Got just love that prints. You are wonderful.
Thank you for sharing this
One of my favorite Prince songs ever.
Singer Patrice Rushen put it on Prince and he wrote this joint about her. 19 years old and was killing it. RIP to his memory.
That’s not true MAGA!!!
WOW......1st time seeing this. . 'The Midnight Special' I used to watch was live performances.
We can get a little bit of the magic when we play it, and even more whenever you get a little groove in your body and the ultimate gift is the Kid playing the whole damn time and trust me when you get into the best of the playlists of the 70s , 80s ,90s ,2K by the time you have played it all you'll never forget that Prince 💜♀️ was just better than them All 💟
there will never be another like him
Very, Well Said - Thank You!
I miss Prince and am so thankful to see this performance for the very 1st time. I loved him and especially when he played homage to George Harrison on While My Guitar Gently Weeps song at the rock n’ roll hall of fame ‘2004 induction ceremony.
As Tom Petty was quoted;
“He just burned it up. You could feel the electricity of 'something really big’s going down here'.”
R.I.P. Prince 🎸💜💜
Prince got that nice good hair. That press and curl blow out. He got more hair than half the women i seen today and so talented
I can’t believe he had the confidence to wear that outfit!
"Our clothes, our hair we don't care, it's all about being there."
Excellent song, album, performance.
A stage full of phenomenal musicians led by the... Prince. 🤲🏽
👑🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 First of all, Prince was way ahead of his time!!! There will never be another Prince, period!!! I will love him forever and miss him very much!!! 👑🙏💜💜💜💜💜
The world didn't know how to take Prince back then . Now the people of the world wish he was still alive 💔 . So dam sad 😔
Prince was a MACHINE INCREDIBLE
Prince is the only man in the entire world that can be the sexiest man alive in that outfit! He was dynamic! He was Sexy! He was Above & Beyond Everyone! I miss him so much 💜💜💜
Gahhh leee. I just cried . So beautiful from beginning to end . People keep on bringing Prince up in my life so I came to study the King .
Prince kicking ass as usual !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Man there’s a million things I could say but I’ll just say there’ll never be another like Prince. One of a kind. One of my all time favorite musical influences. Rest well OG.
At last !!!! Thanks ! Glad 2 have it in pristine quality.
I'm sure the other song "Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad ?" will B posted.
Great channel ! So happy as a huge Prince fan...
That's a get down tune that song was the first song I heard from prince it was funk. soul .rocker .i digged on it and the rest is history .
I enjoy his showmanship🎉
Great post👍 I remember watching this when it originally aired back in the day? Miss the Big Bro🎉....vintage Prince 💯💥🙏🏻🙏🏼🙏🏽🙏🏾
There'll never be another Prince.
Hopefully you're right.
They'll never be another midnight special either. At least I caught the very end of it....
I wonder why a guy like that wouldn't have had a few kids to carry it on.
@eugenefirebird8938 the child he had with mayte died shortly after birth, don't know why he didn't try again tho
There'll never be another you either Brother.
✊
Prince du jour! Whew! Giving America a shock to its senses. The Midnight Special had tons of top acts perform, which was great for those of us who weren't allowed, back then, to go to concerts.
Wow! I didn't know Prince performed on Midnight Special. I also thought his first live TV appearance was on American Bandstand. Nice to see rare gems like this...
bandstand was recorded first in Dec 79 this was recorded Jan 8 1980...but it was aired first (thus he did not talk to Dr Hook). he did this and "Why you wanna treat me so bad?" (on Both shows). Yes they were required to lip-synch...but the were live Feb 1981 on SNL.
@@JohnAnderson42 Oh ok...thanks for the clarification...😃
I use to hurry home on my second shift job to watch the Midnight Special I love watching these clips on youtube.
The man who invented minimalist funk. His falsetto vocals in this are amazing. Damn drugs.
Er uhh.....Marvin Gaye ?.....Chic ?....and others.
@@zdave6083 'I Got The Feeliin' James Brown before them. Brings me out in a 'Cold Sweat' how uneducated some folks are in the funk.
He is so cutting edge and different yet he displays so many characteristics of many past R&b soul come funk performers. He dances like James Brown but he plays lead guitar like Ernie Isley . You could tell by this performance that great things were going to come his way. So much talent. 😊
Class of 1984 checking in. My bar fly career started senior year. I looked 13 but I had a banger fake ID. New Orleans had clubs for all the genres, dance, rock, punk, you name it.
When did that career end?
Class of 84 here. We are currently planning our 40 year reunion
I love it It is a very beautiful and beautiful singer to go along with it.
The outfit, very demure, very classy, very mindful 😂😂
This is frickin "golden". I've only ever seen stills of these early performances. Thanks so much for posting!🙂
