The coolest cat in town
The only thing that could stop Sly was Sly. This band had so much talent. Cynthia was one of a kind. Rose was gorgeous.
When music was great.
Which lady is Rose? 🌹
@@KittyGrizGriz Rose is the lady on the piano. Cynthia is the lady on the trumpet. And I believe that is Vaetta on backing vocals.
@@lockedonlaw
Oh, ok, thank you so much! They’re all so talented and I love watching everyone in the band! It’s a family affair, after all and we need to know their names. Ha! 😉
Cynthia was my inspiration for playing the trumpet in the high school band.
After the Woodstock movie came out sly was poised to be the biggest star of all, he was all that everybody talked
about, but he couldn't hold back the night and darkness and fell a flame of his own making. Some people just can't
handle being famous. His vision was pure but he let the devil get on top.
When Sly moved to LA the drugs did him in.
Poor Sly, a genius and a casualty of the 70s.
Sly and the Family Stone were way ahead of their time. My brother saw them at Madison Square Garden, and he told me Sly played maybe 3 songs and walked out. The band jammed, but he didn't? He told me it was still a good show.
Cocaine is a helluva drug!
Now that is how you open a show!
Hell yeah. I wish I would've had the chance to see them live! 🤦🏾♀️🤗😎💃🏾🔥🥹
This is pure gold 🎤🎤🔥🔥
Thank you Midnight Special, for letting Sly and the Family Stone be themselves, and everybody else too.
That was the best part about the show, the artists performed, no lip-syncing. ❤️
I think the future looks bleak for music, we had the Golden Age, and didn't even know it.
Now…That’s the way to enter a stage!! SO KOOL 🎉 💃
Before Prince…. There was Sly!
… and P-Funk,which Prince listed as a major inspiration on his music and style.
Such a killer groove
An incredibly talented man.
I've always LOVED, Sly and the Family Stone. Thank you for this video!
Im reading Sly’s recent memoir and here is what he says about these shows: “Some programs, like Midnight Special, got too frantic, with people in your sight line scurrying and pointing. Were they pointing at me? And if not, was I supposed to look? It was hard to concentrate on anything and I was required to get into the music correctly.”
One Of Kind! ❤
Dude was high af!!! Killed it though lmao
Sly is so fly!
Oh!, that thrombin' bass.
Electric Sly!!In all his fabulous glory the genius ❤❤❤❤❤
This is what real music sounds like young people...🎶🎶🎶🎶
No one enters a room like Sly!
Now that's a jam session
The WHOLE BAND is
ON!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you!
I graduated HS in '74. Always watched Midnight special, and Don Kirshner's Rock Concert. On radio the "King Biscuit Flour Hour" was a weekly show I enjoyed.
Here on MLK Day 1/20/2025. Watching greatness
A legend right there. Tragic what happened.
Now. that are some great fro's
Love love love Sly and his Family Stone ❤.
Bill Lordan on drums! Would shortly be Robin Trower’s drummer
They rockin with it!! Rockin with that groove.
This song could have gone on for a lot longer than it did.
2or3 hours be good for me!!
The GOAT!! Sylvester Stewart, aka Sly Stone, inspired SO MANY of the musicians we call Geniuses. It’s unreal. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽❤️
The one and only Sly & The Family Stone. Their sound was their own. Imagine, this guy started out as a DJ. The ladies were so gorgeous.
No one made a grander entrance than Sly and the Family Stone. Seventies all the way.
Outstanding musicality
insanely great
This is sick. Jamming outtt 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
So awesome!
Trowers future drummer here with sly stone
And he sounds great
Love the old school lead ins
Omg how cool is this??!! I would have had a blast! Sly is the best. 🔥❤️🔥🔥❤️🔥✨❤️🔥🔥
Absolutely awesome music.
That's some good stuff!!!!!!
Drummer Bill Lordan smokes!,Rock on brother 😎🎶🥁✌️
Rock Solid bottom with the camera-denied bassist.
Larry Graham???@@danielsweimler2358
The guy knew how to make an entrance.
…Sly Stone singular the MOST influential person in music history 😳💯✔️👑…
this is off the chart 😳 Thanx for posting 👍
Cool cat ✌🏻😎 it's great!
Oh this is killerrrrr !!! 🎉
Super fly, Sly.
Swag swag swag all day long!
sly is the funkiest man ever walked on this planet
The best.. No band to out do them at that game ..❤
The ladies are beautiful!! 🔥🔥
This is probably the best quality video of them.
I was MISSING ALL OF U. Sly....
Never saw so many ‘Fros in one place. Hip!
It was the hottest thing in 1974.😂
He was the best
BEST!!!
Noice ‘fro, bro!
The legendary Larry Graham on bass. I always thought he was the bass player to Strawberry Letter 23 until the internet came around.
I believe this is Rustee Allen on bass, who replaced Larry Graham.
I love that song! 🍓🍓🍓
I just assumed it was Larry. I looked it up and saw where he left the band in 74. So you might be correct.
@KittyGrizGriz That makes two of us. Strawberry Letter 23 is a classic. I remember hearing it everytime I went to the roller skating rink.
I went to a Phish concert years ago. Early nineties and they played Strawberry Letter 23. I couldn’t believe it.
@@curtisphilumalee1447
That’s very interesting about Phish, playing the song, it’s fantastic. I’m afraid I’ve heard of them but don’t know any of their songs. What’s your favorite?
This song was featured on KXCI 91.3 in Tucson
Can you imagine how monster of a tour that would have been if they got back together in the 90s when Toyota was using Everyday People to sell cars?
His was the first concert I ever went to back in '69. It took them over two hours to get him to come out of the dressing room. Great concert though.
*_OH, HE11, YES !!!!!_*
🤘🏿🤘🏿🤘🏿🤘🏿
WoW.😮😮😮😮
Sly put the FUNK in Funky❤ Was just a small child jammin’ on their stuff in 1970
🔥🚬😎
Symphony Sid Page!
I had the album back then. That song was titled "Thank you for lettin me be mice elf again". Or close to that.
Rap & Hip-Hop killed this high quality music and just stole sections of it, called it ‘sampling’. More talent in Sly than all of the so-called rappers all put together.
MIDNIGHT SPECIAL, Upload Sly Stone the song Time for Living LIVE midnight Special its a better version than the studio album version
Somebody gimmie this stuff again! Please!
Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)
Longtime Cleveland, Ohio, radio personality Mark "Munch" Bishop has a story from years ago when a deep-pocketed Sly Stone fan in Columbus (OH) set him up in a local recording studio to cut tracks for an album. Stone told him what instruments were needed for the sessions, which the money mark purchased and had delivered. After a week or so of hearing nothing about how things were progressing....he went to the studio....and found no instruments and no sign of Stone.
WOW Saw them Feb 2nd 2025 only original member left? The Sax player but they were great!!!!
1:00 I know that ain't Gregg Allman but...wow. 😮
Such a funky intro! I wonder who the guy is in the top hat and sunglasses playing the keyboards? Is that Bobby Lyle?
Rose on the stanky Clavinet
Prince’s real Dad
Those two people, especially that woman in the blue shirt on the left with her arms crossed is D-void of funk. She probably hates water.
Falletinme Be Mice Elf
Who is the guy playing the fiddle?
Sid Paige
It's a Family Affair
Na verdade eu queria ver valer a lei universal que diz que humilhados serão exaltados. Muitos cancelados merecem de fato serem celebrados e elogiados por gestos e atos dignificantes e heroicos.
No SLY…No Prince .Period
Um wait...this the legendary appearance when Sly Stone invented the guitar strap dangling cords mute technique ?
And WTF! ....I did not know that Tom Petty had a twin brother who was a drummer?
He’s totally fucked up here 😢
Sky,the coke hasn't kicked in yet ,😅
Cette association est du tonnerre de Dieu
What a waste of God given talent! Beware kids: don't do drugs!
I wouldn't call it a waste. We have his art, where is yours? We have his records, his concerts that have been captured on disc and tapes to be preserved. A waste would be to never get it out to share with humanity.
@flame-sky7148 My comment wasn't made with the intention of instigating an argument, but to point out that if drugs could do what they did to Sly, then they could do it to anyone. So, if you're hell bent on exchanging crude remarks with someone, then you'd be much better served by looking elsewhere. I've been a fan of Sly since 1969, and have had the good fortune of seeing him before the drugs, the music industry and crooked management screwed him out of his publishing rights and left him broke, so I don't need a lecture from you or anyone else. Peace. ✌☮
@ it’s no argument, the drugs were rampant in the music scene back then. Not all, but “everyone “ was doing it . Again not a waste of talent. If it was a waste , you wouldn’t be on this video.
@flame-sky7148 The music that Sly still had inside himself, but never recorded, due to the factors I cited in my last comment, were indeed a waste of his talent, and we're all the losers for it, including Sly himself. And BTW, I can attest to the fact that drugs were rampant everywhere back then, and not only in the music industry.✌☮
@@davidmccall4776 Yea they were everywhere. However, I'm glad what we have the footage and records of Sly, Jimi, Jaco , Bird, Cobain, Joplin, Miles and others we lost so soon due to drugs and circumstance.
I wonder how much cocaine was used?
Stage hand: "How much shine do you want on your clothes?"
Sly: "Yes ... :)"
Sly be High......😅
