I am 72 years old and standing on my last legs. Everyone else in my family has passed away. I grew up in Detroit, Michigan, with every one of those persons in that video had sat at the dinner table eating my mother's cooking between 1955 to 1962. We lived at 5745 Loraine Street, just a 15-minute walk from Motown Studio. In 1956, I attended Esterbrook Elementary School, which was then located at the corner of Linwood and Mcgrew Av. Today, the Detroit Police has built a training center there. My sister Rose was a writer, office worker, and the girlfriend of Elbridge "Al" Bryant during Motown's early years. Their relationship lasted 6 months. She was a close friend of "Tony Franklin"..., the wife of Melvin Franklin.
My family was close to the music business in Detroit, since its arrival to Detroit in 1936. Like all immigrants, we lived in "Black Bottom" on Russell Ave just north of the Russell Cemetry. Then moved closer to the church, when we moved to Waterloo Street. Where from our back door, you could see the old Gobel Beer Co.. And I grew up with the Franklins, including the great Arthea Franklin, and her cheating father, who slept with my mother. The "asshole". Arthea's father and my father was good friends for 15 years until he slept with my mother. The two of them broke my father's heart.
In 1958, we moved to 1927 West Warren, where I attended Handcock Elementary School. Rose was working at the 20 Grand Ballroom, when she met Jackie Wilson, and went crazy.
By 1960, we moved to 639 Horton Street, following all of our friends and fellow gangs, where we met the Ross Family, Dianna and her mother and all the rest of them. Even Smokey had moved to that area by then. I attended Palmer Elementary School. Which was right down the street. By 1963, Rose and Berry Gordy had stop being friends when Berry refused to play her the $434.00 he owed her. Because Berry was always robbing Peter to pay Paul. So, she quit..., and Rose went to work for Stax Records in Detroit for about year, then left the music business and went into Nursing. Where her found her calling. Rose passed away 2014.

Wow, thank you for sharing your story. I felt like I was reading z book. You should write call memories of motown . It was good read it really was and so sorry for your lost 😢 my mom almost got an audition but my grandmother would let her do it because she was a church girl and very strict on her children. And it was probably during this should that she was discovered my mother could really sing and was very cute and had a great figure even as a young girl . But thank you for sharing I grew up in Detroit too born in 1967 .

Stevie and I lived in the same neighborhood as kids before he went to Hitsville. Stevie’s about 3 years older than me.
He and his family lived around the corner on Breckenridge. His brother Calvin and I loved to throw rocks at the freight trains. We were very young, now we’re all seniors. Where did the time go. And Steveland became Stevie Wonder making his mark in the music industry. What a talent.

Stevie looks like he is being ushered offstage very abruptly . Was he being treated OK , are you aware ? I've always been a big fan , and was maybe 3 years old during his " little " days of this appearance . I do remember Satchmo and Kennedy's demise in Dallas in 1963 , though . Stevie stole my heart with the depth of his performances , as Louie Armstrong touched my soul .

I'm 72 years old, and I remember this very well, why? Because my older brothers went to this concert and I was too young to go. They came back saying how reat it was, and talking about Stevie Wonder. "They had a blind guy there who was 12 years old, he can sing and play like nobody's business. What can you do?" They also bought back a concert album, which I still have, and a 45rpm recoerd Stevie Wonder "Fingertips". This was at the Apollo, but there was another one at the Brooklyn Fox. My brothers used to go to all the Motown Concerts, they were sponsored locally by a DJ "Murry the K".

wow what an amazing piece of early footage of Stevie,Marvin and the Supremes.i grew up loving all these and they were the first music artists i saw live in concert as a teenager.i gotta say,i was so interested to see how raw their performances were in this film!! the Supremes singing doo-wop, Diana's voice not so refined yet,Marvin looking more like James Brown with his high kickin dancin! and his raw vocals! hi Veronica, some months ago i watched some of older and newer videos of Detroit. They explained that it used to
be one of the nicest, oldest cities of the States. There are still a lot of old buildings standing, nobody wants to buy
as they would have to be restored. So eventually they too will be demolished. In one of the comments further up, somebody talked about the region around Motown, and that one could not find any of the old streets (buildings) of that time. It is such a shame. They showed one couple who had restored an old victorian house and it became sooo beautifull!
Me as a european, cannot understand that there is so little of historic sense, pride by politicians or communities. It surprises me even more, as so many american tourists come to Europe to admire its heritage. In Germany you'll find houses still standing from 15,16,17, 18th century! If somebody owns or buys one like those, the government helps financially for the restauration. Btw, I loved the story of some of Motowns history and their musicians told by
      *kennye6088*.

I have my Hohner Super 64 X on my dresser in my room. This video pops up and, I suddenly realize my teacher is playing in front of me. Just follow along where you can until you feel it. That beautiful offset counter balance to everything SW does helps him understand where he is in space. The tis how the telescopes like the James Webb navigate. They are always off a little though, because only rhythm is perfect.
Look up Solomon's "Song of Songs" He wrote 1005 of them. He used his best to power his 60 mile wide flying carpet. It was round like a turntable and all it took was the right rhythm to power it. It's all in the Bible.
    God Bless:)

I saved my newspaper money and went and bought a Honer chromatic harmonica and soon discovered that there was no way I was going to be able to play that thing remotely well. 25 bucs was a lot of money bac then.

13 year old Stevie Wonder has so much talent at such an early age--my goodness these licks are crazy for a 13 year old to be destroying. Even as a Dylan snob this is probably the best and most entertaining harmonica solo ever, preformed by a 13 year old Stevie Wonder.

Way back when, my mom was teaching elementary school in Royal Oak Township near Detroit. One day the principal brought into her classroom a blind kid that the principal said was a musician. My mom said all the kids knew who he was, and the whole classroom erupted into pandemonium and she then told the principal to please get this kid out of her classroom. My mom came home and told my sister and I about this. We were in shock. Our mom threw Little Stevie Wonder out of her classroom! Imagine that!

I'm Puerto Rican and grew up in Boston loving these artists. They don't make music like this anymore Motown and Fania records. It's Thanksgiving evening, had dinner and hoping the Detroit Lions win the Super Bowl. I know it has nothing to do with music but I think it would be great for the people and city of Detroit. Love from Boston and Puerto Rico. 🇵🇷 🇺🇸
