Yeah we thought so too! Those 3.5 EcoBoost engines are pretty strong for sure. A race that would be interesting would be to put the RDX up against a regular Expedition as opposed to the Platinum trim level. Because the Platinum actually makes more horsepower and torque than the lower trims. Even still though, those new RDX's are really quick so we were both surprised at how much the Ford pulled away.

@@sametyldrm8837 In some cases we do but most times we try to stay away from it, mainly because we aren't using our own vehicles and we want to make sure we're gentle on them :) Totally get what you're saying though, because that method definitely can help 1/4 mile times for sure!! Depending on the vehicles, we're trying to do it more - especially if the races are really close :)

Not sure if you also tried in regular Sport mode with Sport transmission (just click again on the Drive button) instead of the Sport + I actually find Sport mode with Sport transmission setting to be faster than Sport +

That could be a fun race! The V8 versions of those cars would smoke the RDX but the V6 models might potentially provide a decent match. If we are able to get our hands on one, we'll line them up :)
@@KingdomAuto that motor but with heavy duty tow package gets the more aggressive gears. If you look at the newest models, the stealth performance pack and Timberline have the 440hp Raptor motor and shave nearly a full second of the zero to sixty.

Just curious - were you running premium/91+ octane in the RDX? Those HP/TQ numbers are specific to premium fuel, though you can run regular at reduced power.
@@KingdomAuto Definitely an interesting comparison there. I would not have thought a full frame, truck-based vehicle at that kind of weight could out run a relatively light unibody car. That K-series 2.0T is a decent performer with lots of overhead for tuning to 300HP+. I've seen them with a basic tune running to 60MPH under 5 seconds.

With the Expedition being that heavy though I (Josh) thought that it would be a closer race than it was though but that thing took off like a rocket! Would be interesting to see what a Tuned RDX could do - maybe one day!!
It seems to be becoming the norm now. Almost every small to mid size SUV is coming with a 4 cylinder engine these days. In most cases, you won’t even be able to get a V6 option until you bump up to a large SUV (with almost every make of vehicle). This RDX did really well considering it was up against a twin turbo V6 with 400HP. But we get where you’re coming from though, there is something to be said for a larger displacement, naturally aspirated engine for sure.
They sure are! We actually did race an Edge this season against an older Toyota Rav4 (not uploaded at this time - coming soon!) but we're considering another matchup with the Edge Vs. the RDX for next season :) Thanks for your comment!

why doesn't any channel ever consider bodyweight in these types of videos? he is easily at least 45lbs more than her, that's about 1% more weight, which compounds over time, every second of the race
Actually we do. We often swap drivers just to compare for that very reason. Just happened that this video was made when we were just starting out and we didn’t include the races where we swapped drivers. Apologies about that. Now that to say, we do actually swap drivers for every race that we film, but it’s never actually changed the outcome of a race so there’s been many times where we just won’t include the take where we have swapped. If we ever ran a 1/4 mile where the outcome changed depending on who was driving what vehicle, we would include that for sure.

The weird part is that's not even the fast one. It has 3.31 gears instead of 3.73 and the Platinum has the 400HP tune on the Ecoboost.

We were indeed :) Specifically 91 (best we have at most pumps here in Canada).
